Melodic Harmony vs. Omskivar

Midnight Island
The contenders will be battling on a circular island roughly 50 feet in diameter. It is night, so Sunny Day will have no effect, as there is no sunlight to intensify. The "outer ring" is all a smooth, sandy beach while the "inner circle" (a circle in the center of the island that is 30 feet in diameter) is made of a dense forest. There is a full moon and the ocean is gently lapping against the shores. There is one stream, roughly five feet across, that cuts the island exactly in half. Does that mean it's actually two islands?

Each round, there is a 10% chance of one of the following events occurring:
-If near or within the forest, a Vileplume may accidentally release a bit of Stun Spore, causing mild paralysis.
-If near or within the forest, a Ghost-type Pokémon may suddenly become visible, frightening the battler it appeared closer to, causing a flinch for that one action.
-Within the forest, either Pokémon may stumble across and eat an Oran Berry, healing 5% HP.
-Within the forest, either Pokémon may stumble across and eat a Leppa Berry, healing 5% energy.
-A cloud may cover the moon, bathing the island in darkness for a whole round.
-When on the beach, Dwebble or Crustle may unearth themselves and poke the nearest Pokémon, dealing 1% or 2% damage respectively.

Notes: Earthquake doesn't work on the beach; mud-using moves only work near the ocean or stream, or if Rain Dance is in effect; SolarBeam has 90 base power instead of 120.

Pre-Round

The emergency referee soon realizes he’s here for good, so he unfolds his foldable chair and puts his heavy bags on it, then sits down on the sand and asks the trainers to keep on. Melodic Harmony reaches her beloved Dive Ball in her own messy bag, and throws is with all her possible might, knocking out an innocent Dwebble in the process, and out pops an unevolved cute little amphibian, which clumsily struggles to stay on her stubby legs, desperately trying to look intimidating. Meanwhile, The Omskivar had chosen his own battler, a small green lizard with huge yellow eyes that were already locked on her foe, ready to deliver some pain.

Round IX Start

As soon as the round opens, Gertie completely stops moving and focuses on honing her senses, trying to predict her foe’s movements before they would actually reach her, adopting a weird stance, nose pointed towards Oko Yasui and tail towards the sky, motionlessly waiting for the Poliwag to actually do something. Likewise, the amphibious Pokémon stays still in a precarious balance between his feet and tail, seemingly unmoving. Slowly and almost imperceptibly, though, the swirl on his belly starts to rotate hypnotically, and the ref himself seems locked in its bizarre attraction. Gerie, though, had detected the faint movement before it could be of any harm, and her tightly shut eyes were completely protecting her from the hypnosis.

She waits for a while, her translucent eyelids offering a blurry vision of the world around her while a the same time avoiding mind-manipulating shenanigans, but soon enough she opens them wide – Oko had started applauding. Gertie stares at him like he was an alien or something, but the Poliwag keeps on clapping his tail against his back happily, claiming how fan-tas-tic she had been, how that impenetrable stance had just blew him away, just like a shield before her! Gertie, pretty confused by the surprising flattery, decides that the move has to be quite awesome indeed for her own opponent to acclaim it. So she gets back in position again, arms arisen before her and tail pointed to the moon, all senses in alert. There is not much to stimulate them, unfortunately, as the only thing Oko is actually doing is staring at her dumbly with a wide smile spread like smooth peanut butter on his stupid face, as if dazed by admiration... and she likes it a lot – she even moves sometimes, all poses more ninjaesque than before, for the utter (apparent) please of the Poliwag. But even if the Treecko is convinced he was paralyzed by astonishment, the water-type is actually clearing his mind of useless information to raise a great mental wall in her head – but forgetting some nasty important things in the process…

A week later, a house cat died of hunger.

Lol stalling for time <3

So, Oko, let's use this last action that Gertie is Detecting! Let's make you a 10% Substitute, to protect you from any potential status effects Gertie may try this round. After that, if she tries to Attract you, then use Toxic, because you'll move first. If she Protects or Detects, you use Defense Curl. And also, if Gertie for some reason uses Attract on both the second and third actions, I want you to go with Toxic on second and Defense Curl on third. Otherwise, our base plan will be to use Icy Wind two times <3

Substitute (10%) ~ Icy Wind/Toxic/Defense Curl ~ Icy Wind/Toxic/Defense Curl

Poliwag is faster 0-o So he used Encore before Gertie would've used Attract, since neither is a priority move, and since Detect was the last move that Gertie used, that was Encored =o

Damn you mind y u assume things

I pretty much assumed that Treecko was one of the fastest things at basic stage and for some reason without logical basis I assumed Poliwag was the slowest. This is problematic.

Well, you can't do much for the first action. Therefore on the second action, go for the sub-breaker with Bullet Seed. F*ck yeah, supereffective sub-breakers.

Then...ahh, let's go for...Leech Seed. Since either way you're just going to be hit by Icy wind anyway.

Detect~Bullet Seed~Leech Seed

F*ck yeah seeds

Just popping in to say that I lowered Detect's energy cost to 4% because 8% energy for nothing literally nothing is just ridiculous.

Also the reffing will be up soon.

Round X Begin

Once more, Gertie adopted yet another kung-fu pose, and they were growing increasingly show-off and decreasingly effective. Still, the Treecko seemed quite proud of them, and Oko’s dazed stare was only encouraging her of keeping on. While she was continuing on her show, the Poliwag continued abusing his opponent’s distraction. With his large tail, he began digging up a small heap of sand and, after adding a squirt of water, molded it into a vague Poliwag form. He opened his tiny mouth the widest he could, and wisps of energy seeped out and to the sculpture’s core. The decoy’s sandy eyes widened and he was brought to life, firmly standing before Okori Yasui.

Soon, Gertie realized Oko had no actual use for her fighting shenanigans, all his attention being concentrated on his new puppet. Speaking of which was standing in her way. The reality struck her – Oko had been manipulating her the whole time! He had been completely oblivious to her magnificent stances, and she had been utterly charmed by an undeveloped amphibian. Her pride could no more. Deeply insulted, she regained her composure and crouched, and a volley of tiny leaves was fired off from her wide open mouth. The seeds flew to Oko like tiny arrows and dug into his substitute. The decoy took the hits with relative ease, but Gertie kept on shooting the green projectile – a second and then a third volley hit the sand sculpture, and after the offensive it was crumbling apart. Still, it stood bravely, a last notch of life energy keeping it one piece. It was Okori Yasui’s turn to feel cheated. Propelled by his tail, he shot himself upwards and blew a strong winter wind which engulfed Gertie, covering her with snow and frost. Suddenly, she felt numb and slow-moving – her stiffed-up muscles seemed to have a harder time responding.

Not even letting her move a second, the Poliwag blew yet another Icy Wind at her, and her skin was covered by another layer of ice – she started to shiver uncontrollably as the cold bit her hands and feet. Lizards weren’t made to live through freezing winds! Walking forward on the frozen beach with cracking sounds, she shot another seed at the Polwag. This time, though, the seed was much larger and vines were giggling out of it like creeping tentacles. However, before it could reach Oko, the substitute intercepted the Leech Seed and it seeped in its sandy flesh inoffensively.

That, I believe, was just shit luck.

Grrrr, Gertie, we can do this. Bullet Seed to break that damn substitute. Leech Seed if you can, but if Protect/Detect/Safeguard/Taunt/anything is active that would prevent a Leech Seed from landing, use Swords Dance if it's Protect/Detect/Safeguard, use Seed Bomb if you're taunted. Third action, business as usual; if Okori is seeded, use whichever of the other conditionals applies.

Round XI Begin

Safely hidden behind his lovely substitute, Okori Yasui began to gather toxins in his wide stomach. The oh-so common venomous liquid filled her digestive pouch and, jumping out of his hide; Oko regurgitated the Toxic and spitted it at the unsuspecting Gertie. Okay, she was suspecting it, but she couldn’t do anything about but taking the hit like a real gecko, so that’s what she did. The foul mixture seeped in her thin skin and spoiled her bloodstream, and quickly her heart pumped it in every part of her body - from the tip of her nose to her adhesive toes. In return, the Treecko shot yet another flurry of tiny seeds. This time, though, the projectiles disintegrated the sand decoy in a second, and it crumbled apart. Her enemy’s defenses pierced, Gertie shot yet another volley of explosive seeds, and they flew to Oko like a swarm of bees – and they stung exactly like it, too. The Poliwag squeaked in pain, but the projectiles kept on digging in her skin, like a thousand bug bites, until his once blue skin was red with blood. Panting, Gertie grinned – she was avenged.

Okori Yasui, crushed by the death of his substitute, rose up slowly, reeeeaally slowly - because he was furious and wanted some drama in there and also because he had no arms. He frowned in rage, and a glowing sphere of energy began to form before his tiny mouth. The orb seemed to absorb heat, because suddenly the air around Oko became frigid, and Gertie strongly suspected that the Ice Beam was getting pretty near the gecko freezing point. She made a futile attempt at dodging when the light blue sphere was shot at her, and it struck on the shoulder, piercing her skin and sending a sickening chill down her spine. Gertie kneed down and focused. Her stamina was quickly dropping, and she would need some support to hold Oko’s unceasing Ice attacks. She opened her mouth wide and kinda vomited a pretty large seed with long tendrils and roots coming out and giggling, and the Treecko threw it at her opponent with might. The plant-y grenade described an arc and landed atop Oko’s head (torso? Whatever I don’t know anything about tadpole anatomy). The vines gripped him tight and immediately began to drain energy, and sent it to Gertie in the form of glowing green orbs.

Okori Yasui was trying hard to ignore the Leech Seed, but when a vegetable is sucking out your brain, it’s somewhat hard to get over it. He tried to slap it with his tail, but it was pointless. Only fire or sharp things could deal with it, two things he sadly didn’t have access to. He grumbled about for a while, than suddenly fired off a second Ice Beam to Gertie who was innocently vomiting seeds. Once more, it was a direct hit – her lower back had been struck this time, and for a second her legs failed to respond, and she fell down in the white sand. She was quick enough to avoid Oko enjoying his small victory though, as she grabbed the seeds that she had prepared and hurled them at the derping Poliwag. The projectiles exploded on impact and Oko was thrown back by the deflagration and rolling in the sand.

As the referee waved his flag, both Pokémon stared at each other, trying to read in the other’s eyes – while at the same time trying to hide their own thoughts. For the moment, they couldn’t quite guess who of them had the upper hand – though only one of them could be declared the winner.

I'm sorry to say this Oko, but I don't think we're going to win our first battle =/
That being said... go on and keep trying your hardest, I appreciate your effort <3
By the way, I now have an ASB profile, which briefly describes 3 characteristics of each of my Pokémon; I just figured I'd give them their own personalities =x

So if Gertie uses a status-inducing or Grass-type offensive move, Protect, but not more than two times in a row. If she ever raises her stats, as unlikely as that may be, I want you to Chill. Also, whenever she Protects or Detects, you should Chill as well.

If none of the above conditions apply, our plan this round is an all-out offensive - Ice Beam all the way =o
If Gertie uses a status-inducing or Grass-type offensive move, but you Protected the previous action, go with the Ice Beam.

Protect/Chill/Ice Beam x3

Round XII Begin

Okori Yasui frowned. His orders were clears: shoot those icy beams in Gertie’s face until she went down. Of course, it was a plan that couldn’t fail – still he knew he was able to manage to screw it up. He looked uncomfortably at his trainer, unsure of what to do. After a moment, he decided that nothing could be worse than standing there doing nothing, and so he began to glow a bright pale blue as his body temperature fell.

Yet another sphere of ice energy formed before his gaping mouth, and in a second a stream of freezing air was hot towards the Treecko. Gertie’s tail was the final target, and as the ice spear sent pain all over her body, she squeaked in pain. She began to shiver violently – the cold was unbearable, and her entire body was reacting to it.

Suddenly, her eyes narrowed – the exact gaze of a wood gecko having an idea. She began to warm up as a glowing sphere appeared between her hands; an exact opposite to the Ice Beam, the sphere was a fiery orange, and it lighted up the night like a second sun. Gertie felt the heat reach her body and tail and legs, and she finally felt at home – dense, warm jungles as she liked them. Confident, she raised the blazing cannonball high in the air, and shot it towards the ink-black sky. The projectile slashed through the night air, slowly becoming a small orange dot. At this point, the sunrays would’ve started to shine brighter and warmer, but the absence of sun kind of complicated the things. In the end, and much to Gertie’s dismay, the night stayed as it was: black and cold.

As Oko was preparing another (guess what) Ice Beam, Gertie decided she had had enough of that shit and, regurgitating foul toxins spitted a blob of sheer gunk at the Poliwag, complete with a facial expression of pure disdain. Okori Yasui hastily summoned a green energy shield before the Toxic reached him, and with a splurt it splashed all over it, leaving a thick purple track. Yummy.

As the shield faded, Oko resumed what he had started before, breathing yet another thin wind of subzero air. I washed over Gertie once more, and once more she crouched down in hope to reduce the impact of the beam, in vain. The attack left her shaking in both cold and terror, and both were as damaging for her. And there she stood still for a few seconds, apparently doing nothing. Oko was watching her with curiosity, wondering what had happened. Was she dead? Was he the winner? But before he had had the time to enjoy his hypothetical victory, The Treecko stood up in a flash. Her belly was glowing in a bright yellow, and up to her throat. All the time, she had been storing the sun’s energy from the moon’s reflection, and now all that power was contained in her, ready to blaze out.

From the air, the scene would’ve looked like an entire side of the island was caught in fire; a bright, blindingly orange light had lighted it up.

As soon as Gertie opened her mouth, an ocean of sunlight bathed Okori Yasui, searing his thin skin and burning his eyes and violently drying his epidermis. After mere seconds of what seemed to be hours, the Solarbeam ceased and Oko fell down. The scenery blackened again and the seashore became silent again, leaving no trace of the attack but Okori Yasui’s fuming body.

Let's get this done.

Use Agility to hide yourself in a tree in the forest in the inner circle. This should be enough to protect you from Ice Beams for at least the second action, since the island is pretty dark and cold and you're adapted to the jungle and such. Vileplume shouldn't be able to accidentally get you in a tree that high up, but if either a Vileplume or a Ghost Pokemon appears to you, use Detect; we wouldn't want Paralysis or to be frightened on top of everything. If you're safe on the second action, use Swords Dance, and after that, Seed Bomb if you're safe from the arena on the third action; otherwise, Detect, or if you detected last action use Swords Dance.

Agility (hide in a tree in the dark dark forest)~Detect/Swords Dance~Seed Bomb/Swords Dance/Detect

Also just a nitpick here but I specifically ordered a Toxic that used as little energy as possible, since the only intention was to activate Protect.

You're doing great, Oko <3

Now, you need a break, but having Gertie powering up in the woods over there is no good... How about a Hypnosis? Next, whether Gertie is asleep or not, you should Chill. On the third action, if she's asleep, use Ice Beam. If not, and she's still in front of you on the beach, then try another Hypnosis. If she's awake and in the forest, Chill again.

Hypnosis ~ Chill ~ Ice Beam/Hypnosis/Chill

Before the referee could even signal the round open, Gertie faded in a blur. So swift she went almost unnoticed, she dived in the forest without a sound and disappeared in the thick foliage. Okori Yasui, startled, stared at the dark forest in astonishment, unsure of what to do. But in those conditions, the best way to react was to follow his trainer’s order, and nothing could go wrong. Puffing his belly at the canopy, hoping to catch the Treecko’s sight, he began to twist the swirling pattern covering his entire body. The movement was slow at first, but as it grew faster, the air around seemed to distort as telekinetic waves were sent around. Unfortunately for the Poliwag, Gertie was too busy hiding in the leaves to notice, and she didn’t fall asleep the least. Actually, she began to somewhat regain her senses after that sudden activity, and was warming herself up, clutched tight in the large petal of some exotic flower.

Oko had no way to tell if Gertie was asleep or not. He looked around for clues, but the beach was completely silent, apart for the imperceptible sound of the wind. Or was it a Treecko snore? He looked at his trainer hoping for encouragement, but Melodic Harmony was as poker-faced as ever. Growing uncomfortable and sweaty, Oko, after a interminable moment of thinking, decided to give a break to his tiring body. After all, it would be pointless to randomly shoot Ice Beams around without any idea of where his foe could be hiding. He sat down a closed his eyes, and shortly after a creamy halo surrounded him.

Gertie, meanwhile, was watching the scene silently. She grinned widely: a slumbering target was an easy target. Still motionless, attached to a thin branch atop a medium-sized tree by her adhesive feet, she gazed at the Poliwag to be sure he wasn’t moving anymore. She waited for a while and, now positive he was too concentrated to hear her, came out of her cocoon and stood up. Then, careful not to hit anything, she began a slow, sharp dance. The movements went faster and faster until her arms were a blur, and stopped instantly. She was a bit sweaty, but now completely focused. She gazed at the beach again – Oko hadn’t moved.

At least, she thought he hadn’t. The Poliwag had indeed heard a noise; though it was so low he couldn’t differentiate it from the wind, and thus had barely blinked at it. And it was all that mattered for Gertie. She reached for a huge seed above her head and split it in two identical halves. Soundlessly, she vomited some nasty chemical from inside her stomach - two of them, actually, and they had the bad habit of exploding when mixed together. She sealed the seed by applying her sticky saliva on the edges, and without a moment of hesitation, threw it in the general direction of the beach.

Now, he was sure he had heard something; the sound of someone who had had too much drinks. However, it was already too late when Okori Yasui opened his eyes; the heavy projectile was already descending upon him. The explosion was impressive. As the seed crashed on him, it cracked open in a sudden burst of green energy and roots and leaves, searing the sensitive skin of the Poliwag. It lighted up the night like a green lantern for a few seconds, and it finally dampened, leaving the poor Poliwag biting the sand and the beach as noiseless as before.

Poliwag
Okori Yasui – male
<Water Absorb>

Treecko
Gertie - female
<Overgrow>
Health: 38%
Energy: 16%
Status: “I’m a frickin’ sniper.” Tiring, but confident. (+2 attack, -1 Speed | Badly poisoned: 3% this round, 4% next)

Damage and Energy Calculations

Agility – 6% energy
Hypnosis – 5% energy
Chill – restored 10% energy
Swords Dance – 4% energy
Chill – restored 10% energy
Seed Bomb – 17% damage, 9% energy

Notes:

- Since Agility was only used to cross a long distance in short time, it only raised Gertie’s speed by one stage.
- Hypnosis’ accuracy was further reduced due to the distance between the battlers, and it missed.
- Seed Bomb’s accuracy was greatly reduced for the above reason, but it hit nonetheless.

Next Round:

- Melodic Harmony orders first.

*ahem*

Before I order, I have something to say about this reffing =x
Agility is not a priority move - it only raises the user's Speed by 2. So, since both Hypnosis and Agility have a priority of 0, and Poliwag's base Speed is greater than Treecko's (not to mention Gertie's current -2 Speed reduction), Hypnosis should've been executed with normal accuracy, before Gertie attempted to dash away =x
