Metallica Fanboy and エル vs The Omskivar and Lord of the Fireflies

Skyman

Well, it's been a while hasn't it?
Pronoun
she
On the fifteenth of this month, Metallica will be thirty. And there's one thing that this must mean.

2 & 2 vs. 2 & 2, tag battle
Style: Set
DQ: 7 days
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: Any moves that will cause instant fainting, direct healing.
Arena: Metallica Gig II
They're playing again. And we're fighting instead of listening. What the hell is wrong with us? Oh well, we still get cool effects from the songs.

A random song will be chosen and played at the beggining of the match. Each song has a set duration, and after that goes up, another randomized song plays. No song will be played twice. If all songs are played before the battle ends, songs from the first gig that weren't played (All Nightmare Long, Cyanide, Damage Inc., Enter Sandman, Fight Fire With Fire, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Nothing Else Matters, and No Leaf Clover) will be rotated.

- Battery (5 actions): Moves tht prevent attacks from landing, such as Protect and Substitute, will fail. If a Pokémon uses a damage-dealing move, they must use another in a row, unless they already have.
- Creeping Death (6 actions): Water-type moves will fail while this song is playing. All Pokémon will suffer 2% Fire-type damage each action. During the first action, the first Pokémon to be sent out takes 10% Dark-type damage; during the second action, the second sendout suffers 8% Dark-type damage; during the third, the third one takes 6% Dark-type damage; lastly, during the fourth action, the fourth sendout receives 4% Dark-type damage.
- Dyers Eve (5 actions): All Pokémon on the field will disobey all commands, using random attacks that they can learn instead.
- Frantic (5 actions): There's a 25% chance that a Pokémon will fail to carry out commands due to profound introspective reflection. When the song ends, all battlers get to choose what their active Pokémon's Hidden Power type will be for the match, even if a type has already been rolled previously.
- My Apocalypse (5 actions): Commands given during the song will be heard during randomized actions (and not in their proper order).
- Seek and Destroy (5 actions): All Pokémon gain 2+ Accuracy and 2+ Critical Hit ratio.
- Welcome Home (Sanitarium) (6 actions): All Pokémon become severely and incurably confused until the song ends.
- Whiplash (4 actions): All Pokémon will enjoy the frickin' show for a while, not carrying out any moves. By the end of the song, each of them will be granted a 2+ in Attack and a 2+ in Special Attack (1+ each if they weren't in battle for the whole song).

As with the first time around, any amount of damage caused to a band member of Metallica will be repaid in organs torn off savagely from the trainer responsible.
Other: Whether the teams are randomized or preset will be left for this challenge's accepters to determine. If the other battlers would like it, this could also be made a 2 & 2 vs. 2 & 2.

Alright, Icarus! Soar to the skies and prove your worth!

Begin with a Nasty Plot, then follow with an Ancientpower on Hopkins and, finally, a Chill. If you are somehow prevented to use Ancientpower on the second action, use Nasty Plot and push it to the third action. If you still can't use it on the third action, just Chill. If Hopkins is ever open to a Thunder Wave on the first action (that is, no sub, protect, safeguard or anything that could prevent it from paralyzing the spider), use it!

Dinally, revert your action to Magic Coat if you are ever targeted by either Screech, Gastro Acid, Toxic, Flash, Thunder Wave (unless the meanie that used it has a Safeguard or Substitute), Disable, Attract, Captivate or Yawn - unless it wouldn't affect you of course.

Nasty Plot / Thunder Wave / Magic Coat ~ Ancientpower / Nasty Plot / Magic Coat ~ Chill / Ancientpower / Magic Coat

Grockle, welcome to battling. See that spider over there? Scald him until it burns, then Energy Ball on Squirtle. Alternatively, if you are unable to hit Joltik, spam Energy Ball. If the song is Creeping Death, use Leech Seed on Joltik, then continue the Energy Ball.

If you find yourself unable to hit either opponent, use Rain Dance to boost your speed on the second or third action.

Scald@Joltik/Energy Ball@Squirtle/Leech Seed@Joltik~Scald@Joltik/Energy Ball@Squirtle/Rain Dancex2

How about we milk this little opportunity! Use Focus Punch on Icarus, then Yawn on Grockle, then Focus Punch again. If you hear "Hebrews born to serve" (Creeping Death), screw Focus Punch and use Brick Break on the last action.

Focus Punch @ Icarus ~ Yawn @ Grockle ~ Focus Punch/Brick Break @ Icarus

Grockle, let's Fight Fire With Fire Water With Water. Seek and Destroy them, Wherever They may Roam, All Nightmare Long.
Is that a prompt to engage in a long-winded series of references that I spot with the Eye of the Beholder? Well then, this is My World, and I'm Frantic about it, Nothing Else Matters to me, so, Sad But True as it might be, you will be the One to Enter Sandman, and after I Disappear, you will be The Unforgiven.

Er-hem. Speaking of disappearing, Hopkins, throw them for a loop with Double Team combined with Agility for a fuckload of clones. If Creeping Death is playing, Bug Buzz Grockle and actively divert his attention, so as to prevent him from hitting your partner. Otherwise, let it slide for an action, then Bug Buzz at the beggining of the third action. If Welcome Home (Sanitarium) plays and you hit yourself in the first action, carry the combo over.

Double Team + Agility ~ nothing/Bug Buzz/Double Team + Agility ~ Bug Buzz/nothing

Hmm, that didn't come up last gig.

Well, I'll go with yes, not having put any thought into whether it benefits me.

In a Metallica gig, you do certain things. You breathe in the energy. You get caught in the mood. You marvel at the metal. In short, you appreciate music and regain faith in humanity.

These people decided to do none of that stuff. No, sirree, for against all common sense, they were going to hold a Pokémon battle in this place, when they could be doing a million other, better things there. Such as actually enjoying the music (gasp!).

The security guards knew them. Upon seeing the Pokéballs, they rolled their eyes, groaned just a little bit inside, checked their tickets, and out of courtesy directed them to the usher. The usher directed them to their seats, in the midst of people, some of which remembered them from the previous gig and died a little bit right there. Why couldn't they just fucking enjoy the music like everyone else?

But at last Metallica was on stage, everything was perfected, formalities were made, and finally, Metallica announced their first tune to be performed. The battlers took that as their cue, moved to a clearing and sending out their Pokémon. L drew from his Pokéball a Squirtle with a rather uncreative name, while the aptly named Metallica Fanboy sent out a fluffy yellow spider. On the other team were Omskivar's Lotad, and Lord of the Fireflies' Togepi, named Grockle and Icarus, respectively. All Pokémon here were new to battling, soon to soar to the skies but as of yet unproven. As Metallica hit their first note, the referee let drop his flags to bide the battle start.

Round 1 begin!

Hopkins, the fastest of a not-so-fast bunch, started running around the limited arena. Faster and faster she went, and the other Pokémon could see clones in formation. By the time she was done, she was followed by seven illusions - or was it that seven illusions were followed by her? Either way, she was much faster and much harder to hit than before. This was troubling for the other team - Grockle picked at random a target at which to throw his Leech Seed, while Icarus picked a different one at which to launch his Thunder Wave. The Leech Seed, while its target looked promising, went right through, and was left inert on the floor, while the yellow pulse of electricity headed toward another Joltik. This one, however, knocked the spider back with what was supposed to be her element. And while she wasn't as affected as one not of her element would be, it left her nervous system temporarily sluggish and scrambled.

Squirtle, forgotten until then, opened his eyes, and, drawing off his concentration, immediately unleashed a powerful punch onto the poor Togepi, who was knocked back some metres and was inert for a while before she could summon the will and the energy to get back up.

Just then, Metallica started singing, and each Pokémon on the field felt the effects of that. For most, it was a mild if disruptive burning sensation, but for Squirtle, it was painful and more malicious.

Slaves, Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
Heed, to his every word, live in fear

But that didn't matter; his commands for next action did. He let loose a very exaggerated Yawn at the Water Weed and waited for the effects to take place. Grockle, knowing that his end was near, Frantically gathered an green orb of Grass energy and launched it with might at the source of the Yawn. It exploded on Squirtle with a bang (which annoyed many of the unfortunate concert-goers).

Icarus, deciding it was time to move, tried to summon the Spirits of the Earth, but found that they were not there. He tried again in a futile attempt, but again, there was no response but the screaming of Metallica fans as music flooded the hall...

Faith, of the unknown one, the deliverer
Wait, something must be done, four hundred years

Hopkins, with her nervous system deranged as it was, could only now co-ordinate herself to send a very, very annoying grating hum composed of many damaging frequencies in the way of Grockle. Happy at the Bug Buzz hitting, Hopkins allowed herself a smile - until Metallica entered into its chorus...

So let it be written,
So let it be done,
I'm sent here by the chosen one

This time, it was Hopkins who fared the worst. The uncomfortable heat with the dark energy that was somehow infused in the air made its way into Hopkins, who was as badly off as Squirtle previously was. But no matter. She had an action-long rest in front of her, and she intended to take full advantage of it. Her partner, however, made use of this action, by managing three punches on Icarus, who just took the hits as he relaxed and enjoyed the music...

So let it be written,
So let it be done,
To kill the first born pharaoh's son,
I'm creeping death

Grockle, getting ever more tired, managed to fire another Energy Ball at Squirtle before he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore. He collapsed onto the ground, in a fitful sleep, while each battler felt the same pains as before, with Grockle faring the worst this time. Seeing this, the referee called an end to the round and Metallica played on...

Now, let my people go, land of Goshen
Go, I will be with thee, bush of fire
Blood, running red and strong down the Nile
Plague, darkness three days long, hail to fire

Round 1 end!

Notes:
  • Bug Buzz was a critical hit
  • AncientPower did not raise stats
  • Bug Buzz did not lower Special Defense
  • Neither did Energy Ball
  • Double Team + Agility produced 7 clones
  • One of which was destroyed by Leech Seed
  • And the rest of which was revealed by a lucky Thunder Wave
  • The next round, you'll order as you would if this battle had not switched refs. After that, I'll shake things up a bit because this poses too much advantage to one team
  • Ancientpower needs more terrain resources than is possibly present at a Metallica Gig
  • Non-Metallica listeners (me) should not be allowed to make Metallica puns

Arena Notes:
  • Song was Creeping Death; will be the same for next round.

Next round:
  1. Team Some Small History commands
  2. Team Thoughtcrime commands
  3. I ref (or Skyman takes over)

Just posting to say, this reffing was awesome.

It just about offset the annoyance of that goddamn Thunder Wave actually hitting.

That reffing was the best it could be. Especially the pre-round.

Also guh thank God for ordering second. And Grockle you look so derpy in your Emerald sprite.

And, time for the DQ warning.

DQ warning for Team Some Small History. You have 48 hours in which you must issue your commands lest you stand the risk of disqualification.

Toxic @ Lotad ~ Brick Break @ Togepi ~ Brick Break / DynamicPunch @ Togepi

DynamicPunch on last action if Tormented.

This is the final disqualification warning for Metallica Fanboy. As of this post, you have 24 hours in which to post your commands.

We discussed our plans... he wanted to use Screech @ Togepi ~ X-Scissor @ Lotad ~ Bug Buzz @ Lotad, in case he doesn't get around to posting.

For the formality, and to throw a couple of conditionals in:

Do that, but if you cannot hit your current target with your commanded move (outside of Substitutes for the last two commands), set up a 10% Substitute. Use Agility if this comes up again and you already have a Substitute.

Urgh Grockle we're in a helluva bind. Go for Sleep Talk, all the way. If you wake up for some reason at any time, use Facade at the Squirtle if you get Toxicked the first action, otherwise Scald; spray it everywhere to get rid of those clones. On the second action, if you're awake, Counter; this should hit specifically whichever one attacked you so clones shouldn't be a worry now. On the third action, by God you don't get Mirror Coat do you, that's awful. Well if you're Toxicked, use Facade on the Joltik, and if not, use Leech Seed on the Squirtle.
