No catching challenge

I'm sure all of us have seen this before, but is it possible to beat a main series Pokémon game without catching Pokémon except for HM slaves that cannot be used in battle and necessary captures, which also cannot be used battle? For example, is it possible to beat Red or Blue using only your starter, the 500$ Magikarp, the Celadon Eevee, one of the Hitmons from the Fighting Dojo, the Lapras from Silph Co., Omanyte/Kabuto and Aerodactyl?

Then in Yellow, it's the same case as before, except you can also use the Bulbasaur from Cerulean, the Charmander from Route 24 and the Squirtle from Vermilion. For Gold and Silver, the Pokémon you can use are your starter, the Togepi from the Egg that Elm's aide gives you, the Eevee from Bill, Kenya the Spearow (if you are willing to commit Grand Theft Spearow), Shuckie the Shuckle and the Tyrogue from Karate King Kiyo.

For Crystal, it's the same thing, but with the Pichu/Cleffa/Igglybuff/Tyrogue/Smoochum/Elekid/Magby from the Odd Egg and the Dratini from the Dragon Master added. Then in Ruby and Sapphire, it's just your starter, the Wynaut Egg from Lavaridge, Castform from the Weather Institute and Lileep/Anorith. (Plus the Beldum from Steven, but that's post-game.)
