• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    What are you reading? II

I'm just about to start One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, then I'm going to try and eat Life of Pi and The Great Gatsby, and re-eat The Hobbit, before I watch their respective movies.

    Worldbuilding Discussion

The world I'm currently working on the most is called Morth. I'd obliterate your minds with sheer boredom if I tried to go into all the tiny, tiny details, but I'll try and give a bulleted list of the most important points. Geography Morth stretches from one side of a massive gulf to the...

    Capital punishment

Lies and slander. Actually, I'd say there's more to it than that. I think it's important we do take the right to life more seriously than the murderer because if we don't, it's questionable whether we really have any ground to stand on in condemning the murderer. If we don't hold ourselves to...

    Ava's Demon

This seems really awkward to follow. It doesn't have a feed so I can't put it in Reader and it doesn't post updates on the front page. What gives?

A song from every year since 19__

I think the stupidest thing about the post just before mine is the insinuation that rock genres are purely sequential. But that's only the most stupid thing, there are others, like the general dismissal of entire subgenres. Any genre can be done right and most genres are done right by at least a...

    Useless Facts

Apart from the fact that three of those do have rhymes (orange/Blorenge, silver/chilver, purple/curple/hirple), this "fact" is pretty odd, since it's been estimated that there are more rhymeless words than rhyming words in the English language. Some English words that actually don't have rhymes...

    Suggest Movies for Me

If you can find it, Seven Psychopaths, the new film from the director of In Bruges, is amazeballs. I'm not sure how long it takes a film to get online these days, I only saw it in the cinema a week or two ago though.

A song from every year since 19__

All of these are based on their appearances in albums and may not reflect when they were released as singles. 1957 - "Come Fly With Me" by Frank Sinatra 1959 - "Blue Rondo A La Turk" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet 1962 - "Just A Gigolo" by Thelonious Monk 1964 - "Big River" by Johnny Cash 1965 -...

What do you call sugary, carbonated, unhealthiness?

If not brand name, I'll call it a fizzy drink or mineral or, very rarely, a soft drink. There's also a halfway point between brand name and totally generic, i.e. lemonade, fizzy orange, coke/cola, etc. where I specify the flavour but not the brand.

Creating an own "mythology", so to speak

I only have two general rules I would advocate when it comes to building a setting. 1. Start with your world's version of the beginning of the universe and then see what reasonably follows from that. When things grow organically from the start point, it always looks well. 2. Once you're done...

    Gun Control

Yeah, there's this weird disconnect between Limerick (murder capital of Europe) and the rest of Ireland (sixth safest country in whole of Europe). Limerick is an odd little place and I dislike it very much.

    Gun Control

Right, because people are always so much more polite in America (88.8 guns per capita) than Japan (0.6 guns per capita) and Americans obviously commit far fewer murders, and crimes in general, than Irish people (8.6 per capita) or, y'know, literally any other country in the world. No, an armed...

    Gun Control

While, in terms of just my beliefs, I'm very much in favour of strict gun control, I'm very skeptical of the efficacy of any attempts to impose gun control on a country like America. I think the gun is too embedded in American culture, something which I blame on the Second Amendment essentially...

    Cannabis

I'm not sure the tax argument necessarily holds given that groups like the IRA have been profiting for years in the illegal sale of untaxed cigarettes. Something similar is likely to happen with a taxed system of cannabis. The only real argument for me is "Why not?". I just don't see why it's...

    POSITIVE BODY FEATURES THREAD

Re: POSITIVE BODY FEATURES THREAD II My eyes are a kind of jade-green-fading-to-grey colour, which I like. I also think my hair and beard are both pretty great when I remember to maintain them.

    Holiday wishlists?

All I've asked for is Microsoft Office, but it sure would be nice if I got Assassin's Creed III as well.
