• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

you get some bloody odd types round here

because literally no-one around here uses the word 'trash'. we prefer 'rubbish'. please do clean it out before you give it back to us. :3

    Egypt Protests

sort of relevant: Colonel Gadaffi releases an absolutely hilarious/bizarre video attempting to disprove rumours that he's in Venezuela.

Wrestler defaults because he would have to fight a girl

honestly, I think it makes him look like a prat. not hitting women in a normal everyday setting is one thing (and that's a whole different kettle of fish, really), but in an environment like that where the female wrestlers fully understood what they were getting into and (presumably) were on a...

    Pokémon sheet music copyright?

Re: Pokémon sheet music copyright? I'd think that as long as you're not trying to sell anything, it would slip quietly under the radar regardless of the complexities of copyright law. btw, your idea actually sounds pretty awesome! So, go ahead and do it.

    Political Compass

very few of TCoDians are out of uni, and the majority aren't even out of sixth form. that's 'young' by most standards. I would have to see some more concrete statistics, but it seems a fairly feasible hypothesis that youth correlates with left-wing tendencies. sometimes I forget that you're...

    Egypt Protests

So, apparently the protesters won. It's nice to know that democracy does work sometimes. :)

    University Applications

There is NEVER too far away. I deliberately avoided London unis because I want a bit of independence from my family. :D

    University Applications

AAA offer from York, plus I've got Birmingham AAB as my insurance... fairly good outcome all things considered (and the whole 'rejected from Oxford' thing hurt a bit less once I found out that almost everyone I knew who applied got rejected). Bristol still haven't replied. frankly, fuck them.

    What are you reading?

I agree that 'speculative fiction' is euphemistic nonsense, but I still think there's a worthwhile distinction to be made here. Science fiction, as far as I see it, always involves speculation: 'what happens if x is different'. Good science fiction relates this to the human condition. Thus, we...

    What are you reading?

Why? I think it's quite a handy label for stuff that isn't quite fantasy, but is too weird for straight literary realism. It's also useful when trying to convince people to read awesome books (say, The Master and Margarita) without scaring them off. ;D I really do love the Guardian and I try to...

    Political Compass

well, there were some rather odd questions. like, "Some people are just naturally unlucky, agree/disagree". is that supposed to be an attack on the welfare state or in support of it? is it about meritocracy or what? I put vaguely disagree for that one because it seems rather suspicious and a...

    What Games Are You Playing?

Replaying FFXII, started a new file and I'm up to the Tomb of Raithwall. This game gets a lot of hate, but I think it's one of the top three of the series. :/

    What are you reading?

In my experience, a lot of literary types get very snobby about sci-fi and would never allow anything by Woolf to be labelled as sci-fi. :( I might be misunderstanding you, but I'm guessing you're referring to the HG Wells school of science fiction? I don't know if Orlando is really in that...

    Political Compass

Sweet jesus, you're lefter than Gandhi. Like-minded people attract each other. The website owner is very left-leaning, so the community most likely began as fairly left-leaning and gradually it accumulates more like-minded people.

Most likely fairly standard for TCoD, I guess.

Do you identify as a feminist?

It really depresses me that any child should be pretend-playing chores. When you're a kid, you should pretend to be Batman or a t-rex or something, not a forty-something with a mortgage. :( To be fair, it seems to be getting more acceptable for men to wear pink without causing a fuss. Lots of...

    Egypt Protests

I wish we could get our shit together like the Egyptians and put the bloody condems back in their place. :(

    What are you reading?

I've only read Mrs. Dalloway. It's very good so I would definitely recommend it. Orlando is apparently really freaky (something about immortal hermaphrodites?) but I think Dalloway is the more popular book.
