• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

I am not denying a need for community. But you can have communities without congregating for some fairytale - while separating fact from fiction. I don't see how this defends religion, in other words - surely something less pernicious gives the same community feeling without acting as a catalyst...

I'm not tolerant of a belief in fairytales that has claimed the lives of millions. Forgive me for being close-minded. Sure, the Church has done a few good deeds (and asked for obscene amounts of money from its followers to do them... which leads the the Church being rich and all its followers...

Oh come on "But they helped the poor people in Africa by giving them food!" rhetoric. No, no, no. They give them food, but they don't teach them how to get their own food. Furthermore they indoctrinate them into religion which means HIV is still an issue, gay rights are crap in Africa, etc...

I have, I just don't understand how it applies to this case. So your legislation is made how? Don't want eternal life...

What bathwater and what am I throwing out by limiting religious influence on our lives? Surely it makes shit better, not worse? Are you seriously defending this extremist's semi political semi-religious delusions or is it just me?

Anarchy and no politics doesn't improve the situation though. Try living without a government - I guarantee you it will not last. When people say they need God what they really mean is they need police.

Well, that's my point, only if it's religion, it's allowed. Religion is accepted schizophrenia in numbers. Furthermore the fact that it is not an excuse (I am aware, sigh, sigh), doesn't mean it's not used as such. So Breivik has political motives, fine. He's still motivated by hatred for Islam...

No, we should get rid of _methods of thinking_ that are not evidence-based. Just because you have an opinion does not mean it's justified.

Yes, surely you can commit atrocities under other doctrines as well, but more than plenty are religiously inspired and it's safe to say the world would be a lot better off without it. That you can commit atrocities for other reasons too doesn't mean religion isn't the cause of a lot of them nor...

That worked, didn't it? The Arab still have lots of poor people and a very rich elite. If only "charity" (which by the way is a very important part of the Catholic Church too) actually worked. But they get exponentially more money. The churches are filthy rich. So... not really. Religion keeps...

I disagree. Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

I am not so sure. I do know about the Norway thing being claimed then being retracted.

Islamic terrorism, maybe, but this was a Christian who lived in Norway. I hardly doubt he was not well-off. I, unlike you, think moderation in faith fosters this type of fanaticism. I think if we think about terrorism, almost all of these attacks were claimed by extremist religious groups. If...

It was a Christian fundamentalist. To me, that's equally awful, you know.

Religion needs out. For fuck's sake, bombing Norway of all places... what are these guys thinking. What the fuck has NORWAY ever done wrong. A terrible tragedy.
