• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    Nuclear Weapons

Because no matter how unlikely something is, it is still only unlikely, not impossible. So as long as nuclear weapons exist, there is a possibility, however small, that they will be used. However, I am opposed to disarmament because there is only a zero probability of a nuclear war happening if...

    Nuclear Weapons

By this logic, everything will eventually happen, which simply isn't true. Isn't that kinda the point of a failsafe? That when things come this close to going wrong, there's a measure that will stop them going wrong? The Cuban Missile Crisis was an hour away from becoming World War 3 but it...

    Nuclear Weapons

You're assuming a lot about me and bordering on ad hominem there. I'm aware that the presentation of a hypothetical scenario doesn't invalidate other hypothetical scenarios. Again, I'm probably misunderstanding some maths here but if the probability of event A happening in any given year is x...

    Nuclear Weapons

Okay, my apologies, as I've barely studied probability in school but wouldn't the probability of any of those things happening remain constant each passing year? Also, several mad, belligerent leaders have taken control of countries with nuclear weapons but that's quite the point of...

    Nuclear Weapons

    1. Nuclear weapons exist. 2. ??? 3. Nuclear war will inevitably occur. You seem to be missing a minor premise. > We disarm > North Korea blackmails us > We give in > We get taken over by an oppressive, failed communist regime whose citizens have no human rights > We disarm > North Korea...

    Nuclear Weapons

I think you misunderstood the point. If most of the nations of the world disarm, North Korea probably won't, so NK nukes its now-weakened opponents. So it's more of a nuclear war/nuclear annihilation dichotomy, which isn't really a dichotomy because they're the same thing. Of course, I live in...

    Nuclear Weapons

I believe whole heartedly in nuclear disarmament but it's probably never going to happen. If the US, Russia, the UK, France, etc. all disarm, then rogue nations like North Korea will just take the invitation.
