• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

I need a name for an A.I

Thorne

It's feeding time
I have been working a bit on a story featuring, as a main character, a highly intelligent A.I who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world after a long time in suspension.

When you think of A.I's in general, some that spring to mind is probably GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System), SHODAN (Sentient Hyper-Optimized Data Access Network), HAL (Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer) and since I know there's plenty of Doctor Who fans here, WOTAN (Will Operating Thought ANalogue)

I want a name like this for my AI as well, but I have two requirements for my AI name.
  • It needs to imply that the machine in question is customizable
  • It needs to SOUND like it COULD be a last name for a normal person.

And I myself am out of ideas. So I ask of thee, my fellow Dragonflies, does anyone of you have a suggestion?

What was the AI's former function?

And don't forget House, from the recent DW episode. Not all AI names stand for something. Take Mass Effect. Sure, we have EDI, but there's also Avina the Citadel VI and David, or if the project pulled through, Overlord. And the Reapers. Technically they're AI. Just... organic.

Domestic work, mostly, like a housemaid I guess.

True, but irrelevant to my question.

What I mean is it doesn't have to be an acronym.

Okay, so your AI is a household system. You can either go for the manufacturer's designation or the family's nickname for it.

It can be the Warren Integrated Lifestyle Systems and Operations Network. Wilson.

Doesn't have to, no, but I want it to.

Still that is a good idea you have there.
