Master of Reality
This is a story I'm working on that takes place in the far flung future- in the year 2435 A.I. with "A.I." meaning After Invasion. 0 A.I. is equal to 2035 AD basically- meaning this would be the year 4470 AD. It's a space opera that is taking place in what is known as the First Galactic War.
I'll start it off now.
Johannes Koto was, whether or not the Galactica scout knew it, a descendent of Admiral Lee Koto, of the UDOW before it reformed into the Galactica. His dark brown hair and green eyes, as well as a calm looking face and wiry frame stood out from the majority of scouts the Galactica, a republic that spread across most the galaxy, and he was scouting the uncharted Eastern half of the galaxy in the Osirion Spiral Arm’s outer edge. “What a view,” Johannes said, as his scout ship popped into a solar zone, with a large, blue giant burning as a white dwarf orbited it slowly, and beyond them lie a satellite galaxy- he didn’t know which one for sure, but one.
As he looked down at his radar, which showed the solar zone in its completeness, he noted a strange, stand-still object on the radar, and looked at it with a strange look on his face. “What is that?” he asked, looking back up, and began to pilot his ship forward, towards the object. It was large and disc shaped, he noticed, as he approached- with a black, red, and blue coloring that almost was invisible except for the red. “What in the world?” he asked before seeing a large, triton-like part sticking out of the middle of the disc, and it was slowly rotating towards him, as if to aim.
“Incoming transmission,” a computer said, as a screen came over the window, showing a creature that was reptilian in nature. It had a snout with horns coming down, and sharp looking teeth, and had green and black skin- dark green, like an evergreen’s needles. It had a forward-leaning stance and had clawed fingers and hands, as well as a sinister looking head crest that was blood red, and a long tail with black stripes on the dark-green scales.
“Hello, Human vessel,” it spoke calmly, as if it knew exactly what was going on. Very unlike how Johannes hadn’t a clue. “I see your species has traveled almost half way across the galaxy- it is a pity.”
“What’s a pity? What is your species? How did you know I was Human?” Johannes asked in some panic, as he looked at the reptoid- which was looking quite pleased with itself.
“That your species made it this far to be destroyed, of course, Human,” the reptoid said, with a grin. “We are the Rissoni- and your species as all others in this galaxy must be annihilated,” it said, as its eyes blinked sideways, and Johannes’ eyes widened.
Johannes didn’t even say anything as he looked at the Rissoni in fright of what he was seeing- the first contact with the Rissoni in over two thousand years, and they wanted to annihilate the Galactica already. He looked down and began to input controls, turning the ship away.
“We won’t let you run so easily, either- already, quantum entanglement fields have trapped your shuttle here. Any attempt of using any faster-than-light teleporter will entangle you here, trapping you forever. Either way, I’m afraid you’ll die- we can’t let reports go to your government without our wanting,” the Rissoni said, and Johannes ignored it, as he turned towards a red lever.
“I don’t think so,” Johannes said as he grinned, and pulled the lever… SPLLLLSSSSHHHHKKKKISSSSHHHH!
His ship’s windows covered themselves in metal to protect him of the radiation, as his ship began to move at incredible speeds- breaking the speed of light, as it zoomed. However, galactic coordinates showed it moving between many different spots within this solar zone at once- occasionally in two spots at the same time. “What the?!” he yelled almost in alarm, as he began to pilot it with the wheel, changing the course somewhat. “If I could get it to come out right in the edge of the field,” he muttered, before suddenly, the ship broke free from the field, and then, the coordinates went the way they should- rapidly accelerating in the path he had set for his return to the Mothership.
“The Rissoni… they… They almost had me. Something must’ve bumped me out of the field,” he said, as he looked back at the coordinates- still on the proper track, going down in one section and up in another. He looked, and saw that in his panic, he had launched a torpedo. “Strange,” he muttered, as he looked at the screen. “Oh well. I’m on course to the Mothership in the Main Sector, and then the news will go to Earth and Terra Prime,” he said, looking at the metal-platted windows. Outside, sights that would cause instant insanity and possibly death from the radiation were passing by, as his ship flew through LeapSpace- a Quantum Field where reality functioned in such a way that could disturb even the hardest to disturb member-species of the Galactica.
Johannes leaned back in his chair, and pulled out a book- something that, no matter how advanced society was, had survived the centuries. However, most books were electronic- few were like this one, and actually made of paper. The few that weren’t electronic, mostly, were older works such as those of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Charles Dickens, and the likes. The book he was reading was one those that Jules Verne wrote- From the Earth to the Moon.
The ship began to decelerate as he approached his destination- the Mothership. A large ship that could carry ten million, and would orbit a star in the area that was to be explored. The ship soon popped back into our existence with an sssssshkkkkrrrrrriiinnggg as it came back into regular space.
The windows uncovered themselves, revealing a large, yellow star, with a planet- around that planet orbited the Mothership. It was large, spherical, and had several hanger-bays. It looked almost like a large moon, Johannes silently remarked, as he began to pilot his scout ship towards it.
“Scout ship, identify yourself and state reason for approaching before the scheduled time,” a image of a human with blond hair and blue eyes said, wearing a hat that was for the Galactica Spatial Navy, that appeared on the screen.
“Johannes Koto, reporting back from the BW-439 Solar Zone- I have urgent news for the Mothership, and the Galactica,” Johannes answered, and to that the human nodded.
“Access granted- any one in particular needing to know?” the human asked, and to that, Johannes nodded.
“Yes. Admiral Chozo,” Johannes said, and the human on the other end looked shocked. “It’s the most important news this century, I’d say,” he said.
“Uh, I’ll tell him that you’ll be to his office A-S-A-P,” the human said, and gulped. “You’re landing in Bay Number 164, Johannes Koto,” he said, as the communications were cut. The scout ship began its automated docking procedures, as one of hundreds of docking bay doors opened.
Johannes looked around nervously as the ship slowly landed- he stood up, as the doors closed and his ship’s ramp descended. It powered down after he turned a key switch, and then walked down the ramp into the large, black and white hanger that was there. It had glowing ceiling panels for light, and a door that was raised slightly and had some steps up to it. Johannes walked through the door, and into a hall- he quickly walked down, turning right once before he opened a door, and then there was another door only a few feet away. He walked through, and there behind a black desk was Admiral Chozo.
He was, unlike Johannes, not Human. Instead, he was one of the nine thousand some member species that made up the 12 trillion population of the Galactica in the current year of 2435. More specifically, he was a Krackaen, which were a species descended from a species of crustaceans on their home world. They had two short eyestalks on the top of their heads, and mandibles that ejected acidic venom into their food to make digestion easier. Their actual throats then would push out of their mouths and suck the food down like a straw- but in most situations, they never let the throat out of their mouths as it was socially unacceptable. They had several limbs- two of them were legs, making them bipedal- the others were slowly evolving away, but at the moment worked as extra arms, but were normally worn under clothing and folded into a puzzle-like shell, except for a clawed arm that they now used. It had a hand with three claw-like digits, and worked like pincers.
“Admiral Chozo,” Johannes said, dipping forward a bit, and then standing straight up. As an interspecies collective, salutes were impossible- so instead, a bow of sorts became the salute for the Galactica, to make all species able to do so.
“Johannes Koto,” the Admiral spoke, his mandibles chirping. The Galactica had developed translators that could fit around the hearing membrane of the species in it, allowing the learning of languages other than one or two being unneeded. Not to mention that many species spoke languages only they could, or could only speak certain languages. “I heard you needed to see me for you had urgent news- what is it?” he asked, and Johannes gulped.
“W-whi-while in system I noticed a ship, and it turned out… it-i-t-it… It’s them, sir,” Johannes stuttered, before gulping. “Th-t-the Risssoni,” he said, swallowing, as Chozo’s mandibles dropped- his eye stalks dropped, looking down, and then Johannes gulped.
“Are you sure?” he asked, looking back up- his shirt obviously bulging from the other arms beneath it, that now were trying to move out of fright- a natural instinct his people had when frightened enough. Johannes nodded, and a buzzing sound escaped from his mouth- a sign of distress. “I’ll call back all scouts, and we’ll have to enter LeapSpace and head towards a Galactica Rely Point soon,” Chozo responded, before another buzzing sound escaping from his mouth.
“If it’d help, sir, I could probably rush ahead and warn the nearest Outpost that the Rissoni are back,” Johannes suggested, and Chozo’s eyestalks looked him in the eyes.
“That could work,” Chozo said. “Yes, that’d be very good. Getting this Mothership to it would take at least a day, and getting everyone here a day itself. You can probably get there within three or four minutes,” Chozo said, and then put his claw-like hands together. “You have leave to warn the nearest outpost and get word back to Earth,” Chozo said, and Johannes bowed. “Dismissed,” he added, and Johannes quickly stood up.
“I won’t fail,” Johannes said- and turned, walking out the door quickly. He walked quickly down the hall- back into the hanger, where he quickly walked towards his ship. He walked up the ramp, and quickly sat down in the pilot’s seat- he turned a key switch- the scout ship humming to life as he pressed a button- turning on the auto-lift off system, and it lifted off the ground, before turning half-circle- now facing space.
It drifted out of the hanger- and he pulled a lever. He pressed some buttons- inserting the coordinates to the Galactica Outpost nearby. He pushed a lever forward- the metal shielding went over the windows again. And then there was a spllllllssssshkkkkkkisssssshhhh as his ship left reality and entering LeapSpace- on route to the Galactica Outpost.
He twiddled his thumbs in boredom as the ship raced through space- coordinates changing. And then, it went sssssshkkkkrrrrrriiinnggg as it re-entered normal space- and the metal shielding went up.
He gasped- in front of him; he saw the ruins of a Galactica Outpost. Debris floating through space, force fields randomly appearing around some debris, as the main part- the reactor core- crackled. He pressed a button to turn on communications- static. He winced almost as he drifted into the debris- an eerie feeling over it. He was almost expecting to find the Rissoni here, waiting for him...
Perhaps they were.
