So, I was playing Platinum, and I decided that it would be far easier to catch Mesprit with a high-leveled Pokemon that knew False Swipe. I discovered that Scyther seemed to be the easiest Pokemon to catch that would know it already. Thus, I went off to Route 215 in search of a Scyther in the morning.
First wild Pokemon encounter, I found one. And it was sparkling. :P Note, I've never encountered a shiny before, other than the Red Gyrados, so I had no idea that it was a shiny. Took me forever to catch it, and all the while I thought the sparkling was some sort of ability, because it didn't seem any different than normal Scyther, colour-wise.
In the end, I caught it, gave it Exp. Share and then went off to battle the Elite Four. This afternoon, I decided to just check what a Scyther shiny looked like - I expected it to be teal for some odd reason... And lo and behold, it has red segments. Excited, I checked to see if my Scyther had them and it did. x3
So the first Pokemon I run into is the one I'm looking for, and it's a shiny! Yay! =D ...But it took me two days to figure it out. x3
