• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    U.S. Government Shutdowns

We Britishers like to have a go at the US for mixing religion and politics, but the sad truth is that we're far worse off than you guys. There's 26 unelected Church of England tosspots sitting in the House of Lords right now with no claim to represent the people of the UK (in England, about 1.1...

    U.S. Government Shutdowns

I don't think you fully understand what 'using' means. Even if we were to cut almost every single function of the welfare state, there are things such as firefighting, policing, sanitation and transport infrastructure which, if not maintained, would lead to a total collapse of society. For...

    What are you reading?

I just finished Brian Aldiss's Hothouse. I'm not being at all rhetorical when I say it was like experiencing a horrible nightmare. Stuff just happened in that weird kind of dream way, and everything was grimdark but no-one seemed to notice.

    What Games Are You Playing?

I've heard it's a little underwhelming compared to 3, so I just got the original (with the bonus content, though). Eh, it was cheaper than I was expecting. About £20-£25.

    What Games Are You Playing?

So I got a PS3 for my birthday, five years behind the rest of the world. It's damn good fun. Fallout 3 is probably my new favourite game ever, it's like Cormac McCarthy's The Road: The Videogame. I've also played through a bit of Resistance: Fall of Man which is quite amusing with all the...

Guess who's now a licensed driver?

Passing it first time is awesome! Most people I know took two or three tries.

    Awesome movies to Recommend

ooh in terms of new stuff, I heartily recommend Submarine. it's set in a Welsh village sometime in the 80s (I think it's the 80s? might be the 70s) and it's all about this romance between two teenagers. but it's really not at all saccharine, it's just very funny and incredibly sweet but in a...

    University Applications

oooh choose York as your firm! we could be flatmates. :P but in all seriousness, I dunno. both Warwick and St Andrews are usually ranked fairly closely in the league tables, with York a few places behind. St Andrews has quite a horrible reputation for poshness and annoying ex-public school kids...

    Weird ads

Warning: a bit NSFW. So there are these lesbians in a field, and there's this giant tree pervert who jizzes orange juice, and yeah. And the ad is for a convenience store. Is it exploitative, clever marketing, ironic or just goddamn odd? Also, lol canadians.

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Bulbapedia says it's 'equine', so horselike but not exactly a horse. :/

    woman's fashion's effect on society.

That's fair enough. I think we're reading from the same hymnal in that respect. :)

    woman's fashion's effect on society.

On the topic, I'd have thought that fashion has worse crimes to answer for than 'sexualisation', whatever strange puritan concept that is. The havoc it wreaks on women's' body image is appalling. Fashion, along with advertising and the media, creates a nearly impossible ideal for women to look...

    Instruments

I've played the clarinet since I was 12. I'm not particularly good at it (need to goddamn practice far more than I do now), but there's something inexplicable and oddly enjoyable about playing music that I don't find in other stuff.
