• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Do you identify as a feminist?

I dunno, Iceland is generally more equality-advocating than the Anglosphere countries, and in Icelandic, the pronouns and other misc. words for male/female are completely different, unlike their Anglosphere counterparts. So maybe you're on to something?

Do you identify as a feminist?

Sorry about me doing that, I see how obnoxious that is now. Indeed. Why do people keep on putting words and nonexistent context into Pathos' arguments?

Do you identify as a feminist?

No problem, its a peeve of mine too.

Do you identify as a feminist?

That's what I was attempting to say when I said "I don't know how to reply to the rest of it.", that and what Pathos (Hi! *waves* ) said. Language is gradual, and while it may not necessarily shape how we think, fuzzy thinking with corrupted language leads to bad results, like the diagram...

Oh, in that case, I suppose thats fine, I'm more fond of singular they, and as for the rest of the reply, I don't know how to reply to it.

Do you identify as a feminist?

Why are you being (from what I perceive) mean? I was just saying (to someone else) if you don't know someone else's gender, you don't have to address them with gendered pronouns, and that there is ways around it, mainly by using second person.

Do you identify as a feminist?

First off, Ad Hominem attacks aren't productive. Secondly, where is the pronouns in "See aforementioned example of how much that could hurt a transgender person. Any default gender hurts transgender people, period."? Thirdly do you actually want a block of text without gendered pronouns? Here...

Do you identify as a feminist?

If I ran up to a women who didn't happen to have a female genitalia at birth and her friend, and asked her friend 'Who is he?' it would crush her inside for the rest of the day/week/month, I am certain of it. One can speak a great deal without having to resort to pronoun use. See...

Do you identify as a feminist?

I love inaccurate poisoning-the-well-logical-fallacy attacks, they are so fun. No, I made a topic about whether rape jokes on television are given too much leniency. If you tell them they can't where a burka in your country, they'll look at you, and move away. Yes, I do believe you are being...

Do you identify as a feminist?

Actually, Latin endings usually denote changes to the end of a sentence for grammatical purpose, wherein Latin suffixes usually denotes changes to the end of a sentence for semantic purpose. I was not the one that brought up that they disliked the word 'feminist' because it is has female...

Do you identify as a feminist?

Google says 0.6 second(s) not weeks. As well, people are raising shit about it being derived from a Latin word meaning female, so why not raise the point the ending is masculine? This is a good point, but people are trying to use etymology as a justification, and that bugs me. So "feminist" is...

Do you identify as a feminist?

In Latin, just as 'femina' is Latin. And, I don't believe so. They are related semantically (a belief system, one who believes in said system) not etymologically (at least not directly), as -ist is an Old French from Latin from Greek borrowing, wherein -ism is a direct Greek borrowing..
  19. Eloi

Do you identify as a feminist?

Yes, but -ist is a masculine ending.
