• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

The distinction is indeed a good one to make, but when it's applied to a modern religion (eg Christianity) it's better to include the mythology with the religion, given that the church structure isn't usually the thing being discussed. Plus Christians tend to get all defensive if you call their...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

It's a crime people think there's a distinction between them, really, although I guess you could argue that the "religion" is the structure and such of the priests and the various "church" bodies whereas the "mythology" consists of the beliefs.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

One (all) of you is (are) wrong. You all fervently believe in your own brand of delusion and you've all got pretty much the same amount of evidence (little to none). To say "my religion is right because I think it is" doesn't hold any weight. The whole reason I'm an atheist is because I looked...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

This particular sentiment is really fucking annoying because you can't disprove very much at all. With that sort of attitude absolutely anything can be put forward. And this one really, really annoys me. How is your god any different to unicorns? To any of the other hundreds (thousands? tens...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

The problem of the "uncaused cause" remains whether or not we have a supernatural creator (ignoring for a moment that necessarily any "cause" of the big bang would be supernatural as there would be no natural), but that's no reason to throw up your hands and say "THERE IS A GOD", is it? It is...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Is this really still being argued? We've established that the idea is a highly improbably one by using a combination of sarcastic humour, logic and science so can we please stop? :(

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

The concept of there even being a God in the first place is the theory - atheism is the default position because anybody not taught about God lacks a belief in Him. Okay, so we get into debates about passive and active atheism like opal said, but beyond all reasonable doubt there is no...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Atheism doesn't need to be supported - it's the default position. Theism is the position that needs support, and it finds itself lacking in anything of the sort. Science falls against theism in every single way that it possibly can. Theism turns to "faith," which isn't much of anything, really.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

burden of proof lies with those who present the theory. By default every single human is an atheist - theists are the ones with the theory and thus the burden of proof is placed upon them.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

But the Bible says... has to be the most annoying phrase ever. (or any variation on that same theme.) HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT your holy book doesn't contain an accurate history of the world and the universe. It probably doesn't even make much sense in context, either.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

No, I'm pretty damn sure there has to be a scientific explanation.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Why must there be "something" and why must it be bound by different universal laws than we are? If we needed creating then surely our creator needed to be created, too? also, re: aliens: yeah sure, it's actually more plausible than gods and magic anyway. you're just lacking hard evidence! so...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

well I was assuming that its disbelief in God equated to a disblief in Allah and the various Hindu gods etc so you know edit: plus context sort of implied that it doesn't believe in anything else either also what opal said

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

If you don't believe in God then you're an atheist.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

no really the earth is not 10000 years old. I'm completely serious. oh plus the fact that there've been lots of good things doesn't mean anything. People tend to overlook the bad things that happen in favour of the good things. plus what vee said.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

I'm quite frankly disgusting by the lack of scientific knowledge in this thread. It's not hard, people. Learn the fucking difference between a "hypothesis" and a "theory." And while we're at it learn to understand the words "over time." [plus the world is not 10000 years old. It is much older...
