Aethelstan vs. Blastoise

MurrMurr

And this...is my necktie.
Aethelstan said:
2v2 Double, Set Style
DQ: 1 week
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: OHKOs, 5 direct healing moves total for both Pokemon, see arena description.
Arena Description: Death Canyon

A long deep canyon at the bottom of a narrow crevice. It widens near the bottom so there's enough room for a Pokemon battle. There are various deep puddles connected under the water for Pokemon requiring to be in water to get around. The crack at the top of the canyon only allows for a tiny bit of sunlight to illuminate the area. This renders all weather moves useless, and makes the canyon relatively dark. Lowering all Pokemon's moves by 1%.

You may be thinking, so what if it's dark? Death Canyon sounds like a bit of an extreme name. A run in with the savage Pokemon that make their home down there will change your mind. There is a 50% chance of one of these Pokemon hiding in the shadows may pop out occasionally to attack:

- Houndoom may blow a weak flame at one of the Pokemon for 5% Fire damage. (25% chance of appearing)
- Haunter may swoop through and claw one of the Pokemon for 5% Ghost damage. (25% chance of appearing)
- Victreebel may bounce in and slash at one of the Pokemon for 5% Grass damage. (25% chance of appearing)
- Linoone may dash in and bite of the Pokemon for 5% Normal damage. (25% chance of appearing)

The luck of the RNG has made a decree:
1. Blastoise sends out
2. Aethelstan sends out and attacks
3. Blastoise attacks
4. I ref

Also, Aethelstan, what does "Lowering all Pokémon's moves by 1%" mean? Is it accuracy or damage?

Hehe, yeah, about the arena description, there's a few things I didn't specify. It's lowered accuracy for the moves And it should be, "There is a 50% chance each round of one of these Pokemon hiding in the shadows may pop out occasionally to attack" And if a Pokemon does appear, there's a 25% chance for it to be one or the other.

As for my Pokemon, Kenneth and Thea should do the trick (I just love my medieval names!)

Ok, first I want to see Swagger on Husk for the confusion. Then I want to see Psych Up so you can get the attack boost off of Husk. Use that new found attack boost to use Flare Blitz on Shino

As for you Kenneth, Try and hit Husk with a Fire Punch. Then, since we're in a deep chasm, rip some rock off those walls and get Shino with a Rock Slide attack. Finally use Ancient Power on Husk (hoping for the stat boosts).

Thea-
Swagger (Husk)~Psych Up (Husk)~Flare Blitz (Shino)

Kenneth-
Fire Punch (Husk)~Rock Slide (Shino)~Ancient Power (Husk)

Shino, zip over to the Vulpix and Attract her. Keep using it if it misses. Fill up your spare action(s) with a Captivate and, if there's time, Double Team.

Husk, use Shadow Sneak plus Double-Edge, and then Dig, and stay under.

BATTLE COMMENCE!
Death Canyon. Sounds like a great place to have a Pokémon battle, doesn't it? Very serene and peaceful, not in the least the sort of place that wouldn't be a vacation destination!

This, and other cosmic-scale quandaries, are the subject of many a rant and ramble as MurrMurr materializes at the bottom of the aforementioned canyon, decked-out clipboard in hand. The Abra dematerializes momentarily, no doubt picking up its next piece of cargo. That next piece of cargo startles the referee by materializing not two feet away from MurrMurr and knocking him off balance into a rocky cliff. The impact noise almost, but not quite, conceals the shriek of both MurrMurr and the incoming Blastoise. MurrMurr just grumbles and stalks off to the sidelines. Blastoise, deciding not to make a comment and spare MurrMurr the insanity that no doubt would ensue, walks over to one side of the poorly constructed chalk "arena" just as Aethelstan materializes and makes his way across as well. The Pokéballs are flung, and commands are issued.

Coming from Blastoise's corner of the arena pop out Shino, the Ninjask flitting around erratically, and his companion Pokémon Husk. The light from the Pokéballs briefly makes the low amount of natural light falling into the canyon seem more artificial. After a moment of deliberation, Aethelstan leads with Thea and Dominic, both popping out with a battle cry and landing in a strikingly similar fashion, as though synchronized. Commands are issued, and the battle begins!

Round 1: Begin!

All the Pokémon on the field are busy eyeing one another with tense anticipation. Thea has her eyes on the psychotically flitting Shino when something changes...wasn't Husk there a moment ago? The Shedinja in question is busy traveling across the ground in his own shadow, enjoying the lack of light in the arena. He doesn't quite recall who his trainer told him to attack, so he moves to where the shadow is better, and resurfaces behind Kenneth. The shreik is cut short by the collision, making an oddly hollow noise when Husk and Kenneth collide. Meanwhile, Shino flits in a triangular pattern over to Thea, making as flattering a noise as a Ninjask can make, complete with air-kisses. The whole presentation is a bit ostentatious, but Thea seems flattered enough, smiling and cooing coyly back at Shino.

Thea hates to extricate herself from staring at her little bug, but she doesn't want to disappoint her trainer, and besides, she thinks she needs to show Shino her style. Imagining the runway before, wearing her (imagniary) red shades, walks as pompously as she could right around the carapace that is Husk. Husk looks disconcerted (you know, for a Shedinja) and wonders idly why a Vulpix is strutting before him. He can do so much better than that! He suddely becomes an angry bug as Kenneth hops over, fist beginning to show signs of burning, and smacks Husk right on the head. Husk is outraged, punches should have no effect on him! Stupid burning hand trick...

<Thea: -0H, -3E, attracted to Shino (moderate)><Kenneth: -11H, -7E><Shino: -0H, -4E> <Husk: -11H, -9E, confused (moderate), Attack +2>

Shino remembers his commands and grimaces. Why all this unnecessary mushiness? Sure, he supposes it's fun to watch the Vulpix gush and ogle, but he wants to kill. Nonetheless, orders are orders, and so Ninjask sets up a miniature aerial display, trying to catch Thea's attention with loop-de-loops and flips, calling her name all the while. Thea not only comes over, she sits and sways in tune with the Ninjask's rythym, not a care in the world. Thea could sit here forever and watch her bug fly around. So peaceful...

Meanwhile, Husk (ignoring his partner's airdance) drops to the ground and hacks at it vigorously, wondering all the while why in the world that Vulpix was posing for him. It makes no sense whatsoever, and he's so caught up in his own little world that he doesn't even notice him flinging dirt and rock at his own face. Being a Shedinja, the dirt is repelled by the alien force about him, but he gets clobbered by a miniature rock and tumbles headfirst into his shallow little hole. Husk clicks and clacks furiously as he finishes the hole, not even bothering to notice Kenneth beating the walls of the canyon and tearing large rocks from it. Unfortunately, not even Kenneth notices a Haunter, attracted by all the noise, pop out of the rock until it's far too late. Kenneth shrieks in a most un-Geodude way as he drops the rock and hopelessly tries to bounce, hop, and roll away from the Haunter, now approaching fast. Despite his valiant effort, he gets clobbered by those nasty claws, and rolls straight into a wall. All is not lost, however, as a few smaller rocks he held on to slip out of his hands and tumble down into the hole, pelting the shrieking Shedinja inside.

<Thea: -0H, -0E, Sp. Attack -2><Kenneth: -7H, -2E><Shino: -0H, -4E><Husk: -5H, -6E>

Trying his best to ignore his partner's screams, Shino takes to the skies (comparatively, seeing as we're in a canyon here) and starts air-dashing around erratically. Picking up speed, he circles the canyon, moving even faster as his Ninjask-i-ness kicks in and he powers it up a notch. Thea is really enjoying watching all the fun air shows from her Shino, but she's got to prove to him that she's not just going to sit around and watch the entire battle. However, as Thea decides this, Shino finally settles down, revealing a horde of ten Ninjask floating around and looking really similar to each other. After a brief moment of deliberation, Thea slams into the third Shino from the left, trailing crackling flames behind her that concentrate in front of her head. This bold maneuver turns out to be rewardless, as the Shino that was tackled dissolves into thin air.

Kenneth decides now, in the midst of Thea's shock and awe, would be a great time to get on with his attack. Summoning an arcane power from within himself (the ref realizes how zen that sounds as he's typing--err...observing this), he tears up more rocks from the ground (extremely wary of another assault by those nasty Haunter) and they rocket into Husk's hole as if of their own volition. Husk screams (you know, for a Shedinja) as the magically glowing rocks pelt him time and time again before falling outside of the hole. Kenneth will pay for that.

Arena and Battle Notes:
-Husk's target for the combo attack was unspecified, so the RNG picked Kenneth.
-Thea was completely infatuated on the second action and didn't attack.
-The RNG rolled an exact 50 for Husk's confusion, so he performed the attack but still hurt himself a bit.
-The Haunter came on the second action. I gave it a 10% chance for each Pokémon of it coming up during their action and startling it, and Kenneth got creeped out. Fortunately, the RNG liked Aethelstan enough to put some rocks in Husk's hole.
-Shino's Double Team made nine clones due to his insanely high speed and Blastoise not specifying the number of clones to make.
-Flare Blitz hit a clone instead of the real Shino on the third action.
-There is currently a hole, slightly larger than a Shedinja, towards the southwest corner of the arena.
-Long reffing is long, and probably will continue to be so long as there is lots to type about. Let me know about stupid math/grammar errors.
-Blastoise attacks first next round.

The impact noise almost, but not quite, conceals the shriek of both MurrMurr and the incoming Blastoise.

How did you know that I shriek?

Anyway, Husk, I want you to get back at that Geo-dunce by using an Ominous Wind, which should hopefully freak him out. Maybe, if you can, inform the spirits that he's afraid of Haunter. Then leave the hole and use Flash, hopefully blinding your opponents. End with a chill, unless you're in obvious danger, in which case use Confuse Ray at your attacker.

Ominous Wind @Kenneth~Flash~Chill/Confuse Ray@Attacker

Shino, let's show off with a Swords Dance. Then wait for a bright flash of light from Husk to fly higher into the air, making sure no one sees you go. Finish up with an Aerial Ace at the Geodude, putting some altitude behind it. If your target uses Protect or something, use another Swords Dance.

Let's get back that name-calling numbskull's Pokemon Dominic! Try a Rock Polish so you'll slide smoother along the ground. Then use Defense Curl not only for the defense boost, but so you'll attain a more spherical shape. Then a good Rollout should be able to incorporate both those new advantages, plus being all curled up, not much will be able to distract or confuse you (hopefully).

Rock Polish~Defense Curl+Rollout(Husk)

Now, if he's going to raise his attack, let's raise ours Thea, in fact, let's take advantage of his boost with Psych Up. Hypnosis should put Husk out for a while. Finally, use Swift on all those Shino clones.

Psych Up(Shino)~Hypnosis(Husk)~Swift(Shino)

Question for Aethelstan: You ordered for Kenneth to use Defense Curl and then Rollout, but your command string orders for a combo. Which one?

Yeah, I meant a combo, when I typed that I meant for him to use one immediately after the other. Sorry if I was unclear.

We'll just call this a DQ warning, and if Aethelstan doesn't magically appear in twenty-four hours, you can have the win and the spoils.
