Animorph vs. Kusarigamaitachi

Okay then, Lucius. 5% Substitute, follow that up with imprison, and then use Psychic to dribble that sub all over the courtroom.

Arena: The Court Room

This, this is a battle of wits...and Pokemon. The two trainers will take positions at the Defence and Prosecution benches. The choice goes to whoever wins the coin-flip for whoever attacks first. At the defense bench, Pokemon's defense and special defense are raised by 1 point. At the Prosecution bench, the attack and special attack are raised.

The court is currently not in session, but not including various quirks of the Ace Attorney series would be criminal! So, every other round, these things have the possibility of happening.

1. The Defense's aide, who has joined him/her for the view, will channel the spirit of a ghost, who will proceed to use a STAB Shadow Ball on the opposition.

2. The Prosecutor will be shoved out of the way by an irritated Prosecutor who has recently had things go badly for her. She will proceed to pull out a whip and attack the defence's Pokemon. The whip strikes twice in quick succession and otherwise acts as a STAB normal-type Vine Whip.

3. The Referee become more attentive, and if a Pokemon fails a move during that round, they will be rewarded a penalty of -5% Energy

4. A witness will appear on the stand and testify about whatever the heck the referee wants. No real effect, it just makes the situation much more comical.

Other: The whip and shadow ball should both do as much damage was would be done by a first form Pokemon. Both will only happen once, though, so after each expire, #3 and #4 will be the only options.

Round Five: Begin

The substitute Togepi is still sitting around in front of the prosecutor's bench and doing absolutely nothing. True, Lucius doesn't know where the real Quicksilver is or what she might be doing, but he has a pretty good feeling that she's not going to bother him for now. Thus assured of his relative safety (as long as no more crazy whip ladies come crashing in again), Lucius sets about creating a substitute of his own. A hazy network of purple energy takes shape in front of him, and the Ralts molds the frame until it is shaped like he is; he then forces a little of his own energy into it (although he has a feeling it's a little more than his trainer would've preferred) and vanishes. Quicksilver, wherever she is, continues to nap and rest on. After a few more minutes' relaxation the little egg Pokémon yawns and stretches, feeling much better. And now that she's awake--to business.

Substitutes are annoying things to have to break through, Lucius knows, very annoying. He'll have to deal with the one in front of him soon enough, but first he thinks it prudent to keep any more faux Quicksilvers from making an entrance. A dark aura surrounds his horns, and instantly the ghostly black tentacles undulating lazily at the sidelines seem to snap into wakefulness. They reach out again, even past the substitute Togepi and into wherever the real Quicksilver is, and as before they pluck select memories out of her mind. Quicksilver squirms, but she cannot do anything to stop the inexorable tendrils of darkness; they retreat back to the sides as quickly as they came.

An indignant Quicksilver reappears in the courtroom seconds later, glaring heatedly at Lucius's former position. Oh, great. Now there's a glowing purply... thingie sitting where her punching bag is supposed to be. She doesn't know what it's called, but it just... looks annoying and like it really needs to be smacked around some. Another thingie, this one bearing a slight resemblance to her, sits next to her; what it is and how it got there is anyone's guess as far as she knows, but she doesn't really care. That Lucius is probably stupid enough to think it's her, ha. Now turning her attention to the annoying purple thinger that is in need of immediate removal, Quicksilver raises her hands to the ceiling. Thin strands of red, yellow and blue energy swirl around them, quickly coiling into little spheres that move into a triangular formation above her head. The energy triangle then goes spinning toward Lucius's substitute, striking it hard; the purple construct flashes dangerously as it is hit, but it does not fade away.

Lucius reappears just as Quicksilver vanishes again and frowns when he sees his substitute. It looks like it's on its last legs. Shame; it would've been nice to keep it around for a while. In the end, though, it doesn't really matter. He only set it up to keep that tricksy Quicksilver from doing the same thing again, and it's served its purpose in that regard. His horns glow again as he reaches out for Quicksilver. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't possess the same interdimensional grabbing ability his imprison tendrils seem to, and so he can't reach his real target. Sighing and settling for the dummy across the courtroom, Lucius picks it up with his psychic powers and slams it into the tiles several times. The repeated abuse opens up a decent-sized crack in the substitute, but on the whole it remains intact. The same cannot be said for Lucius's substitute; Quicksilver pops back in as the Ralts disappears and fires another tri attack at the defense's side. This time the purple body double cannot withstand the onslaught of fiery, icy and electrical energy, and it fades into nothingness. Lucius is forced unceremoniously out of his secret place only seconds after he entered it, and he ends up back on the battlefield with only Quicksilver's damaged substitute for company.

Round Six: Begin

Lucius sits down, pouting and glaring at Quicksilver's battered substitute. He's really quite sick of the thing by now, but he's feeling a little battered himself and feels more like he could use a rest. Maybe it'll go away after a nice nap... The Ralts's big red eyes shut and he slips into a trance, dropping off into an intensive, healing sleep. The vexatious substitute continues to sit, motionless, across the courtroom; the real Quicksilver, meanwhile, takes a bit of a breather herself. She stays in her hidey-hole and relaxes, making sure that she is well-rested. No sense being tired when you're ready to rain death upon your foes.

Another snorting noise from somewhere in the courtroom startles the two battlers, and Animorph and Kusari turn around to find the source of the sound. Someone sitting--or, rather, sleeping and just now coming around--in the seats behind the prosecution turns out to be the culprit. The referee snorts again, grumbles, blinks blearily, sits up and looks around. A Ralts and a broken-looking object that vaguely resembles a Togepi are motionless on opposite ends of the courtroom. Neither one appears to be worth paying much attention to at the moment and so, temporarily forgetting that attentiveness is one of the things that he actually gets paid for, goes back to his nap.

The courtroom remains still as Lucius sleeps on, resting quietly and unmolested. Now that she's feeling a bit more energetic, Quicksilver turns her attention to plotting. She lies back and thinks, challenging herself to invent new, dastardly and very entertaining ways to mess up the napping Ralts. The ref snorts, blinks looks up for a second and then goes back to sleep, bored.

And so the "boring round" continues, silence still reigning over the room as the two battlers sleep and scheme, respectively; even Kusari and Animorph are forced to stifle yawns as nothing spectacular happens whatsoever. The ref barely moves this time, not bothering to look and see what's going on; his own beauty sleep is more important than a couple of snoozing Pokémon that aren't doing anything.

Lucius's snoozing comes to an end as he yawns and stretches, feeling as though his injuries and complaints have all just drifted away like his dreams. To his dismay, Quicksilver's body double is still sitting there some distance away. Drat. He'd been hoping that maybe it would cave in on itself or something...

Round Seven: Begin

One last stretch to really wake himself up and then Lucius is off, his horn glowing a faint pinkish color. The air in the courtroom ripples ever so briefly and then the same pink glow surrounds what's left of Quicksilver's battered substitute, squeezing it and finally crushing it into little shards of energy that vanish moments later. Quicksilver reappears as suddenly as her creation disappears, popping into the air a few inches above the floor and bouncing a little as she comes in for a landing. She collects herself quickly and straightens up, stretching and yawning a little herself as she regains her footing on the tiles. Lucius yawns a little as well--funny, he just woke up, but all of a sudden he's feeling a little tired again... he shakes his head and shrugs the feeling off, focusing his attention on Quicksilver.

Horns glowing even more brightly now, the Ralts grabs his foe with psychic power--oh, it feels so good to get his hands on the real Quicksilver at last--and bounces her up and down as vigorously as he can. The Togepi flails and windmills her arms as she struggles to get away, but to no avail. Lucius lets her drop to the floor again, smiling sleepily as he hears the smack she makes when she hits the ground. Quicksilver stands once more, a dark scowl on her little white face. Her tiny hands begin to shine brightly, first red, then blue, then yellow, and she raises them up in front of her as the colors change and spin ever faster. The light becomes a tri-colored swirl in front of the egg Pokémon and then flies across the courtroom, colliding painfully with Lucius. The streaks of red light linger on the Ralts's body just a little longer than the others do, singeing his pale, delicate skin; Lucius shoots Quicksilver a tired, indignant glare and suddenly her own skin feels uncomfortably hot and painful, seemingly out of nowhere. Still glaring and frowning, Lucius closes his red eyes and sits down, slumping against Animorph's bench. He has fallen asleep.

Faint mumbling can be heard across the courtroom as the Ralts begins to mutter unintelligibly in his dreams, and a faint, bluish glow surrounds his sleeping form as he chunners on. Quicksilver dismisses the light and attacks again, the tri-colored wheel of energy spinning in front of her before zooming across the room and striking Lucius. The tri attack seems to dissolve faster than it did the last time, however, seemingly dispelled early by the blue glow around the psychic-type; Lucius flinches and jumps in his sleep, but his reaction to the attack isn't as strong as it was the last time. The glow around him fades away after a few moments, leaving Lucius still sound asleep on the ground.

Round Eight: Begin

Lucius shifts position in his sleep, trying to make himself more comfortable and ignore the burn on his chest. Unfortunately for him, this is made increasingly difficult when Quicksilver hits him with another tri attack. Without putting any extra energy into enduring the assault the tri-colored ring hits him at full force, and the red light lingers on the Ralts's body as before. Lucius groans and twitches as his burn starts to sting and ache worse than before; Quicksilver's satisfaction with his discomfort is short-lived, as her own burn suddenly feels a lot worse as well.

The referee blinks blearily and sits up in his seat again. The last time he interrupted his beauty sleep for these two "vicious battlers" he was rewarded with a very boring snooze-fest; now, as he watches both Quicksilver and Lucius try to relax, he gets upset. "Bloody boring Pokémon never do anything," he grumbles, lying back down and turning over. "Why am I even here? I have better things to do. Like sleep on something a hell of a lot more comfortable than a row of chairs, for example."

So the ref goes back to sleep, not even bothering to watch the Pokémon as they continue to do nothing with any entertainment value whatsoever. Lucius finally opens his eyes after about seven more minutes of sleeping, yawns, and prods gingerly at his singed chest, but otherwise keeps on relaxing.

The only other occurrence of note (not that the snoring referee pays any attention to it) happens not in the middle of the "heated battle" but off to the sides. The purple tendrils of ghostly energy slip slowly back into the ground, fading into nothing and relinquishing their hold on Quicksilver's memories. The resting Togepi gives a sigh of relief as she recalls more and more of what she and Lucius had done to one another previously--knowledge that will probably come in handy again later.

Round Nine: Begin

Lucius quickly shuts his eyes and concentrates on the attacks he'd used before, bringing all of the memories back to the front of his mind. The dark tendrils slide back out of his horns and slither over to Quicksilver, quickly and efficiently re-extracting the knowledge of those moves from her brain before shrinking back to the sidelines. Quicksilver decides to shrug off the maddening feeling of forgetfulness this time--she hasn't forgotten how to use Tri Attack, after all, and so far that's been where the money is anyway. She yawns cavernously in Lucius's direction, making sure that he knows just how boring she finds his strategy. Lucius bites his lip and tries to suppress a yawn of his own. Why does this sudden, tired feeling keep hitting him?

Hoping that keeping his mind on hurting Quicksilver will help him stay awake, Lucius grabs the Togepi with psychic energy yet again and bounces her roughly up and down. Quicksilver responds with the tri attack she's come to love so much--she grins evilly as the three glowing balls of energy turn colorful cartwheels in the air on their way to the drowzy Lucius. This time it is the yellow energy that lingers the longest, scrambling the Ralts's nerves even as he slumps to the ground and closes his eyes, too tired for the feeling to register. Quicksilver, on the other hand, definitely notices as the familiar sensation of paralysis overtakes her tiny body again, and she mumbles a string of words that are quite inappropriate for little Togepi to use.

Lucius rolls over in his sleep, flopping face-first onto the tile as he snores. He mumbles something into the floor, but whatever it it is unintelligible and mingled with gagging and gurgling; he twitches a few times, but remains face down and unable to act. The only other movement he makes is a sharp, wild jerk of pain as yet another tri attack collides with his prone form. Quicksilver flinches and watches carefully, waiting to see if something else is going to happen to her. The tri attack's triple energy sources vanish almost instantly, however, fading away before they can cause any more serious harm to either the Ralts or the Togepi.

Round Ten: Begin

Quicksilver narrows her eyes as she listens to Lucius mumble under his breath. She takes a few steps back toward Kusari's stand when the Ralts does not garble any of his words; if he doesn't choke now, he might manage to do something dangerous to her. Lucius gets shakily to his feet and slowly raises his outstretched arms to chest level, still muttering unintelligibly in his sleep. The Togepi bites her lip and glances around, searching for a possible hiding place--her gut is telling her that whatever the sleeping Ralts is about to do to her, it's going to be terrible. Black energy swirls, writhes and pulses between Lucius's white fingers, swelling to an impressive and ominous size. Lucius points the sphere of darkness right at Quicksilver, who closes her eyes and tries to shrink into her jagged eggshell. She shudders and braces herself, waiting for what seems like an hour for the psychic-type's devastating assault; when it doesn't come, she opens one eye just a crack. The dark sphere is nowhere to be seen and Lucius is back on the floor, snoozing peacefully. When she checks her body for injuries, she appears to be fine (aside from the aggravating burn eating away at her side, anyway). What was that? Did Lucius miss her? A nagging feeling in the back of the Togepi's mind tells her that she should know why she has come away unscathed, but she can't recall the reason. The ghostly tendrils on the side of the room quiver slightly.

She doesn't have much time to ponder what had just happened, however, as a new distraction is now commanding most of her attention: a uniformed woman seems to have let herself into the courtroom and is now squinting out at all and sundry from the witness stand. "I tell you," the old woman snaps, "no one has any respect for their elders any more! That spiky-haired blue whippersnapper has the audacity to call me away from my job to testify about some nonsense or other he thinks I might've seen, and it burns me up! Why, I was working at the time in question, you know, working my poor old patootie off at my honest nine-to-five, and goodness knows that when you're actually focusing on your work you shouldn't have any reason to notice anything about chocolate or men's purses! But what do you awful young people these days know about hard work, hmm, what do you know about dedication or having an attention span longer than three minutes?! Because those video games and computer phones and text machines, they rot your brains and turn you all into a bunch of goldfish, did you know that? And television! Television's the worst of all of them, especially with all the drivel that you seem to confuse with entertainment polluting the airwaves! It's not like when Jack Hammer was on TV, oh, no, none of your Britney Aguileras or Bradley Depps or Boring Rats have anything on Jack Hammer, no, sir! Oh, good old Jackie Hammer, now there was a star! An acting genius! You know, my favorite Jack Hammer TV movie has got to be..."

Kusari and Animorph stare, dumbfounded, at the chunnering old crone, but Quicksilver rolls her eyes, tunes her out and focuses on Lucius once more. The three familiar balls of colored light rematerialize in front of the Togepi, whirling and turning in a blur of red, yellow and blue. With a triumphant sneer Quicksilver fires her attack, sending the rainbow wheel careening through the air and toward the battered, defenseless Lucius. The orbs hit their mark and disperse their energy all over his body on contact, eliciting a violent shudder and a cry of shock. The jerking and shouting stops almost immediately and Lucius hits the ground, eyes still shut as if sleeping. He does not move again.

"...so that's when I told her, Margie, you've got to stop using that cream if it's just spreading the rash from your back to your... hey! Hey! Where the heck do you two impatient little ingrates think you're going?!" The woman's puffy gray hair wobbles as her head snaps around to glare at the two trainers stepping down from their respective benches. Animorph recalls Lucius with a dejected sigh as Kusari congratulates its Togepi on a job deviously well done. The battlers shake hands and head for the double doors of District Courtroom 3, doing their best to block out the tirade blowing from the windy old bag on the witness stand. "I don't believe this! I drop everything, absolutely everything, in the middle of my very busy day so that I can provide my key, eyewitness testimony on the murder trial of the century, and this is the thanks I get?! You have the gall to walk out on me after inconveniencing me like this?! Unbelieveable! Inconceivable! Abominable! Terrible!

"Now, if it had been that Miles Edgeworth who'd subpoenaed my testimony... well! Now there's a fine young man, polite and respectful and intelligent... and kind of cute to boot, teehee!" The old woman giggles coyly and daintily covers her mouth with a wrinkled, veiny hand. "Ooh, what I wouldn't give for chance to go out to dinner with him! Maybe he'll take me to that Trés Bien restaurant, I hear the food is delicious, have you ever had any? Well? Have you? Hey... HEY!"

Ref's Notes
-Lucius's Sleep Talk called Shadow Ball, which, unfortunately, was ineffective.
-...and then Quicksilver rolled a 98 for Tri Attack's accuracy. Two points off of a miss and another chance, oogh. So Lucius fainted on the first action. (Hopefully the Oldbag makes up for the poor luck? At first I was considering some "West Clowndelphia" lyrics, but hey, Oldbag.)
-The match is over and Kusarigamaitachi is the winner. It gets $8 for winning and Quicksilver gets 2 exp as well as 1 KO toward a happiness evolution. Animorph gets $3 and Lucius gets 1exp. I get $5 for reffing. Good game, you two.
