Cainus’ last snuffles of laughter died away and he scrambled to his feet again, a dangerous glint returning to his eyes. Battered as he was, he was still determined to exact revenge on his opponents. With a savage roar Cainus simply burst into flame, lighting up the murky tunnel and sending out an intense wave of heat. Aries cried out in distress. William’s eyes widened and he quickly assumed a defensive stance – Cainus meant business, and he didn’t want to have to take a hit like that.
Heedless of the flicker of an energy shield being formed, Cainus roared again and lunged at William. He struck the barrier, flames flickering uselessly; desperate to hit something, the Growlithe slammed himself at the Protect again and again until he was sore, then scrabbled at it with his paws, whining with rage. It was no use, though. The shield was impenetrable. With a howl of defeat Cainus stopped fueling the flames, which sputtered before fading away. Angrily he gnashed at the air with his teeth – not very satisfying, but it was the only outlet he had for his fury, short of ramming his face into the wall.
Despite William taking quite a bit of space in the narrow tunnel, Aries was still able to squeeze past his teammate by gathering his cotton close to himself. His vision swam with every movement; it was a constant fight to keep conscious. Any creature in his position would find it hard to be optimistic, even if its remaining opponent was on its last legs as well. Aries forced every ounce of cheerfulness to the surface – Cottonee were supposed to be carefree Pokemon, right? – and then began to channel the positive energy into blows. Using his leaves, Aries slapped Cainus across the face over and over again, but there was little strength in the Cottonee’s body, and Cainus stubbornly clung to consciousness.
It was a losing fight. The Return may have left Cainus with a speck of health, but the seeds digging tenaciously into his skin took whatever he had left to offer. For a moment Cainus wavered on his paws, ash puffing out of his fur as he struggled to start another fire; then his eyes rolled into his head and he collapsed, spent.

Terrain notes
There is a patch of Toxic on the ground. There is a U-shaped tunnel dug into the earth, and not far from one of the openings, the earth has buckled. Another tunnel has been dug, this one sloping gently downwards and ending abruptly. All battlers are in this tunnel. Yet another tunnel has been dug; this one connects to Cainus’ original tunnel.
Final notes
Cainus fainted at the end of the first action, via Leech Seed damage.
There was a whoop of joy from the mouth of the tunnel. William and Aries recognized their trainer’s voices and rushed to the surface, tripping over Cainus’ unconscious form as they scrambled up the tunnel. It seemed that all three Asberians had clustered at the entrance to properly observe the battle. Derpy fell over as both of her Pokemon leapt forth to embrace her; then Wargle leaned over the edge to point a Pokeball into the burrow, recalling her comatose Growlithe.
Derpy’s Pokemon spent a few moments clinging to her, then at last allowed themselves to be recalled. Aries was especially eager to return to the safety of his Pokeball. He’d had enough of scary meteors and Growlithes to last him for a while. As soon as the last of the red light disappeared into the spheres, the referee threw a wad of bills at the trainers, then offered them both a ride back up to the battle raging in the sky. All three of them looked up at the meteors, reminding them of their weightier responsibilities; then the referee flapped her wings and flew towards the bulky silhouettes of the legendaries.
The battle is over and Derpy is the winner. She gets $16. Aries gets 3 EXP for knocking out both opponents, while William gets 1 EXP. Aries is also now eligible for evolution.
Wargle gets $6 and Cainus and Washibon both get 1 EXP. Cainus is also now eligible for evolution.
