Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Gaming Lock-In

for CHARITY

So, basically, our school threw a 24-hour gaming lock-in, where the goal was to either ask people to donate a flat amount of money (such as $10) or depending on x amount of hours you stayed awake (such as $1 per hour). The money was to go to charity to donate to kids with diseases; I'm not exactly sure what anymore, since originally I heard it was to kids with cancer, but then the same person said it was for premature babies.

A lot of people attended, with their own gaming consoles, games, TVs, and sometimes snacks. Any games were allowed (although the organizer of the event told us not to bring AO (adult-oriented) games, though he wasn't sure if they were made anymore). The event started at 1 p.m. on Saturday, ending on 1 p.m. on Sunday (about an hour before this post). Kids were not allowed to leave between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless a parent picked them up.

I, personally, brought my Nintendo DS Lite, GameBoy Advance, DS and GameBoy games, Wiimote, Nunchuk, binder of uncommon/rare/promo Pokemon cards, a Wii game (Twilight Princess) and a few extra things, such as deodorant and a hairbrush. I planned to stay awake at the school all 24 hours, in which I succeeded (and, at the time of this post, have not had a wink of sleep in about 28 hours).

This "gaming orgy" (as I referred to it) was awesome, and I hope we have more like it. Food (and bathrooms) were provided. Dinner was chili and sandwiches, along with several small treats like Goldfish and Animal Crackers, later followed by a delivery of pepperoni pizza. We then got dessert, which was some small fun-sized candies (M&M's, Gobstoppers, Sweet Tarts, etc.) and three buckets of ice cream: chocolate, strawberry, and cookies and cream. We then played games throughout the night, until breakfast was served: some kind of omelette-casserole thing of scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, sausage/hamburger (couldn't tell which), and cheese all mixed up. Donuts were then ordered, along with Frosties from Wendy's, although I only managed to get 2 Frosties and no donuts since I was not informed of this. Drinks were also served: various sodas (mostly Mountain Dew), lemonade, pink lemonade, and the water from the water fountains.

At first I spent some time with several friends and a couple of strangers in the German teacher's room. Some boys were playing Modern Warfare 2 or something, a band friend of mine was playing various games on some system or other, and the rest were playing board games. I first played some chess, won via checkmate, and then proceeded to play Scrabble by myself for a few hours with the goal of using every single letter in the pouch. I succeeded, and took some (crappy) pictures, which I may eventually learn how to upload. I then played Pokemon Platinum, caught Moltres (accompanied by a loud, happy squeal), and raised a lv. 52 Beldum that I caught to what is now a lv. 55 Metagross.

Afterwards, I walked around and looked at what others were playing for a bit, then tried to play some hide and seek with other kids (which was called off while I was hiding, resulting in me hiding in a cabinet for quite a long time. I watched some older boys play Brawl, which was very amusing (especially when all 4 decided to brawl as Mario at the same time). I then took completely over someone else's Wii, played Twilight Princess while half-watching someone else play Oblivion (in which they encountered a floating rock). I finally packed up a bit early, ending in watching some friends play some Devil May Cry game or other.

The most memorable part was probably scooping ice cream, since we all had to use plastic spoons, and almost everyone (except me and one other kid) broke at least one, most breaking many more. Most awesome quote:

Guy: See, you have to do it slow, like hot sex. See? *scoops with some strange moaning noises*
*spoon snaps*
*everyone laughs for about five minutes straight*
Me: Unexpected pregnancy!

That sounds freaking awesome. I would love to have gone to that! You should post details, and maybe I could convince our school to let us have one!

SO. JEALOUS. That sounds like the coolest thing ever and I am extremely envious of your awesome school. :D

Honestly, convincing my school to do this on the next long weekend shouldn't be all that hard if enough people are in support, which they probably will be. It sounds like a lot of fun, despite my introversion. There would probably be a few rooms with some quieter stuff going on, as long as it was still gaming.

This sounds like something my school would (should) do. If I join an appropriate organization on campus that does charity work, I'll be sure to put this idea in.

Because this sounds like way too much fun to be for a good cause. But it is.

Mind you, lock-in is a funny term, since reading the thread title I thought you and a bunch of pals locked yourselves in a room and played games of some sort the whole time, with no escape.
