A pure, white, completely flat void. When needed, the sun will appear, or water, or ice, or sand, or rocks, or anything else needed for moves. However, in the ground, there is a massive "x2" painted in black.
In this arena, everything goes for double. Double damage, double energy. Effects of moves, such as status effects, remain the same though, although poison and burn will still do twice as much damage as usual.
Round Six: Begin
Rather than waste time picking Cyndaquil at random and hoping to get lucky, Janus rears up onto his hind legs and focuses all of the energy he can into his forelimbs. His cloven hooves slam into the white ground with a
bang, and almost instantly a shockwave ripples out from the point of impact. The floor shakes violently, its normally solid surface bucking and rolling as though it were made of gelatin. The quaking of the earth quickly destroys six of the Cyndaquil across the battlefield and bounces the remaining fire mouse around violently. Khao screams and yelps as his body is repeatedly smacked against the ground by the amplified earthquake; when the shaking stops he lies spreadeagled on the ground, dazed. Only moments ago he didn't have a scratch on him, but now... moaning fitfully, Khao picks himself up and tries to regain his footing for long enough to start creating a substitute. The ground directly in front of him goes from solid to soft and malleable, and he quickly sculpts a simple doll that, if one were to squint and turn one's head to just the right angle, might almost look like a Cyndaquil. Or an eclectic vase. Or possibly a very, very excited bull Sealeo caught in mid-backflip. Aesthetics mean little to Khao at the moment, however, and as soon as the construct is substantial enough for his liking he gives it just a touch of his own life force--he'd rather not part with any more than he has to, but otherwise it will just fall apart--and then vanishes, off to hide in a special, secret place with ground that is less susceptible to violent seismic activity. The happy Cyndaquileo vase shudders and twitches a bit, but otherwise remains quite still.
Janus snorts irritably and his tail gnashes its teeth.
Another double? Geez, when will that Khao guy stop hiding behind all these stupid decoys and get his butt kicked like a man? He rears up and smashes the ground again, setting off another mighty earthquake. Khao's nebulous substitute wobbles ridiculously for a few seconds and then melts back into the ground from whence it came, wasted after a single attack. Khao has barely had any time to relax in his safe place before he reappears and finds himself on the white floor of Doubleland, which is still trembling with the last throes of this second quake. What? Already? Crap...
With his substitute gone Khao is certain that he won't be able to take another attack like that. His only remaining course of action, then, is to take Janus down before Janus can take him down. He bites his lip and lowers his head. This will hurt, but with any luck it will hurt that freakish giraffe thing over there even more.
A furious battlecry rips from the Cyndaquil's throat as he sprints forward head first, barrelling toward Janus's legs at breakneck speed. His backfire flares up and its flames trail behind him, making him look like a little round rocket surging across the field. Khao collides with his foe's legs before Janus can get out of the way, knocking them out from underneath him again. As soon as Khao feels his head bang painfully into the Girafarig's knees his back really explodes into life. A wall of fire and intense heat rushing out from all directions and washing over the floored Janus. Janus's long legs flail around as he writhes with pain and tries unsuccessfully to stand up; several of the kicks miss the blazing Khao by a hair. When the last one comes within a fraction of an inch of his nose Khao stops and allows his back to die down again.
The heat wave has singed Janus's coat and left him feeling dangerously hot; the double-edge that bowled him over left him with incredibly sore legs. But not so sore that he can't use them to punish the insolent little rat. The Girafarig struggles to his feet and then his front hooves crash into the ground again, and this time Khao has nowhere to go and nothing to hide behind. The Cyndaquil is battered mercilessly by the earth beneath him. Janus holds his head up high as the earth settles and Khao hits the ground one more time, bruised and bent and motionless. Surely his work here is done... he cannot believe his eyes, then, when his opponent stirs and whimpers. Khao can barely hold his head up at first, and when he finally does manage to stand it seems to take an incredible amount of effort and resolve. He sways unsteadily on his feet and moans. Another substitute sure would've been handy just then...
