You're not sure how or why your Pokémon have ended up battling in an arena like this. The area of battle is a great green-grey sheet-metal cube twenty meters to a side. This wouldn't be so bad if not for the daggerlike five-foot spikes placed in a grid pattern, three feet apart, on every wall of the cube. This wouldn't be so bad - the spikes are big enough to avoid fairly easily - if not for the fact that every ten minutes [five actions] or so, perhaps oftener, the cube flips over. Perhaps someone or something is rotating the cube, perhaps gravity is shifting; either way, it's rather disorienting. Add to that two opponents at once...

Pokémon over five feet not recommended.

k so here's how this will work.

surskitty sends out
JD sends out
Ruieko sends out and attacks
surskitty attacks
JD attacks
The WRATH OF GOD descends upon thy feeble Pokémon
And the attack order will just go down the list, so next it will be surskitty>JD>Ruieko and then JD>Ruieko>surskitty and so on and blah.

One question: I assume that all six walls of the cube are spiked and not just the four "sides", yes?

All six walls, yup.
(Also: I didn't make this clear, but 'flips over' means any random side can become the bottom - not just a simple reversal. Yey.)

Erm, okay Flames start off with Agility and use Headbutt along with it to attack Carrion. Though if somehow the bird takes flight, use Flame Wheel instead and attack Itoshiki Nozomu. Finally, just use Flamethrower on Itoshiki Nozomu unless he uses Protect or Detect then attack Carrion.

Also if you aren't able to attack either of them use Howl.

Agility + Headbutt@Carrion/Flame Wheel@Itoshiki Nozomu/Howl ~ Flamethrower@Itoshiki Nozomu or Carrion/Howl

Okay, Nozomu, this applies to always but um. Stay near spikes - you can probably stick to whatever you want to - and don't be near the bottom of the cube. You're much harder to hit if you're near the top and clinging right next to or on a spike. Also, I really doubt that the puppy can hit you from there. Don't worry too much about being at the top - you've got enough on your mind and the cube moves a bit too frequently for that - but stay out of reach. I would imagine that you could probably start there? Since, y'know, Pokeballs.

Lead with a Substitute (25%) since getting that out of the way is usually a good idea and you're miserable enough without status effects. If for some reason you're unable to get the Substitute out of the way on your first action, try again if you can.

Next, put a layer of Toxic Spikes down because a. you're supposed to be immune to it and b. considering how the arena moves fairly frequently, it'll bounce around and make it even more likely for something to be damaged.

Finish it off with a Spider Web aimed at the bird.

Substitute (25%) ~ Substitute (25%) / Toxic Spikes ~ Substitute (25%) / Spider Web @ Carrion

Right, Carrion. As a general rule: Stay off the floor. You can't cling to the ceiling like the spider, but you can fly up and perch on the spikes on the walls of the cube. When you're not doing anything else, try and do so. You'll probably be safer higher up; we want to stay out of range of the dog's fire.

Start off by getting in a Drill Peck on the Spinarak before it can get its substitute up - don't worry, you're faster. Since the spider is at the top of the cube, you'll be out of range of the puppy's attack - I doubt he can Headbutt twenty meters into the air, even with an Agility to charge it. Flame Wheel probably won't do the job either, so he'll most likely end up Howling.
Next, you can come lower, but stay on the wall - Nozomu'll be pulling off some Toxic Spikes later this action, and the spikes may give you some shelter - and pull off a Tri Attack at the Growlithe (whose orders are to go for the spider, so you can get fairly close.) From now on, since there are Toxic Spikes around, whenever the cube flips, ignore whatever instructions you had for that action, try not to get knocked around, and use Whirlwind instead, to keep them away.
Lastly, Nozomu is going to try and hit you with a Spider Web. We can't have that, can we? Fly out into the middle of the cube, and try and put yourself in a line between him and the puppy. When he fires it, dive out of the way as fast as you can and head to the wall again, and see if we can't get it to hit Flames instead. If you don't think you can get out of the way in time, you can use Protect instead.

No way out, nowhere to hide and killer spikes five feet in length lining every surface. There's no other way to describe it: this battlefield is hell, or someplace equally torturous and deadly. Not that Itoshiki Nozomu is particularly intimidated by this. The place is bleak, hopeless and full of impending suffering... just like his soul. The Spinarak clings to one of the ceiling spikes, staring dully around at the spiked walls and floor as he waits for his opponents to make an appearance. Carrion the Spearow and Flames the Growlithe, when they are released, do not take their situation as lightly as their opponent does. Flames vaguely remembers hearing something about this spiky cube arena flipping around, and he isn't looking forward to being tossed around and impaled on one of those nasty-looking points. Carrion, while hoping to avoid most of that flipping nonsense by staying in the air, is nevertheless a little nervous. There are an awful lot of spikes around, after all. And both of his foes are much larger than he is, even the "delicious bug" his trainer pointed out to him. It looks more like it could catch him than the other way around, but at least it seems more preoccupied with being depressed and staring at the spikes than with food.

Round One: Begin!

Carrion throws himself off of the spike he has perched on and into a spiraling climb, shooting straight between the spikes and right at Nozomu. His spinning motion causes him to drill painfully into the Spinarak's abdomen, and Nozomu hisses and nearly loses his grip as the Spearow's added weight throws him off-balance. Wrenching his beak free at last Carrion takes wing and flutters out of the way, not wanting to present himself as a viable target for Flames. Not that he has any reason to worry--Flames is just sitting at the bottom of the cube, staring up at his two opponents with a dismayed look on his face. Agility or no, he can't jump that high! Upset at his inability to reach his targets the Growlithe throws his head back and lets out a long, frustrated howl. The sound echoes eerily around the arena, and while it unnerves Carrion andNozomu somewhat Flames finds himself feeling invigorated. Oh, he might not be able to reach them now, but just wait and see what'll happen to them as soon as they get within the range of the Amazing Terrifying Scary Dog!

Great. Just great, Nozomu thinks to himself as the last echoes of Flames's howling die away. I have a huge bleeding hole in my back and the mutt is making loud, annoying, creepy noises. TODAY SUCKS. BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW. Still whining mentally about his crappy day and the unfairness of it all, Nozomu readjusts his position on the spike and then sets to work spinning himself a duplicate Spinarak with his sticky silk. A few moments of weaving and shaping and his doppelganger is fully-formed; it twitches a little when Nozomu forces a good deal of his life energy into it but is otherwise still as its creator vanishes from sight and goes off to continue sulking in his magical hidey-hole.

[Carrion: -0H, -3E, hmm, the big bug is pretty delicious...] - [Nozomu: -40H, -12E, in pain and in despair] and [Nozomu's Substitute: 25H remaining] - [Flames: -0H, -1E, attack +1, disappointed but confident]

Landing on a spike that is lower on the wall than his previous position, Carrion glares down at the pumped-up Flames and scrutinizes him carefully for a few seconds. He should be able to hit him from here, and should be safe from his next attack since the delicious bug appears to be his intended target... reassured, the little bird takes aim and fires off a tri -colored beam of energy. Bright red, yellow and blue streaks rush down toward Flames and hit him full on in the face, the blue beam managing to coat his muzzle with a fairly thick layer of ice. Flames panics and paws at the ice, trying to force his mouth open wide enough to breathe fire and melt the ice, but to no avail. His jaws simply won't budge. Nozomu, meanwhile, pops out of his secret hiding place and, ignoring Flames's wild scrabbling and scratching down below, spits a multitude of sharp, poisonous spines down at the floor before popping right back in again. Carrion squawks and scoots closer into the wall to avoid getting hit, and miraculously enough Flames manages to thrash away from the area the majority of the spikes land on, but the damage is done--the tiny spikes are now littering the floor and will make things quite unpleasant for whoever is unlucky enough to step on them. (As if things weren't unpleasant enough in this terrible arena.)

[Carrion: -0H, -3E, hey look I frozed a fire dog!] - [Nozomu: -0H, -2E, still in pain and in despair] and [Nozomu's Substitute: 25H remaining] - [Flames: -8H, -2E, attack +1, face frozen, freaking out]

At last Flames is able to force enough fire into his sealed mouth to heat it up, and he stops rolling around so that he can focus on melting the ice. The going is quite slow, and holding the flames there in his mouth is quite uncomfortable, but he sits and bears it. It's the only way he'll be able to free up his jaws again. The puppy is so intent on removing the ice that he fails to notice the shadow cast over him by Carrion, who is hovering directly above him and glaring a challenge up at Nozomu's still-motionless substitute. It isn't long before the real Nozomu makes another appearance, this time slinging more sticky thread. This time, however, he aims the strand downward instead of at the spike, attempting to mire Carrion down the way his life is bogged down with misery and despair. As soon as the thread leaves Nozomu's mouth the bird is gone, however, darting back to the relative safety of one of the spikes on the wall. It is Flames, then, who suddenly finds himself draped with spider webbing on top of having a frozen face. The distance between the two makes aiming the attack and creating a proper web difficult, and so the Growlithe is not glued to the spot; the webbing does, however, tangle itself quite thoroughly in Flames's fur and between his right legs.

[Carrion: -0H, -2E, glad that he isn't stuck to anything] - [Nozomu: -0H, -1E, still in pain and in despair] and [Nozomu's Substitute: 25H remaining] - [Flames: -0H, -1E, attack +1, face frozen, spider-webbed, really freaking out]

Round One: Close

Carrion is quite pleased with himself at the moment, and he allows himself a little smug preening time as he waits on his spike for his next orders. Nozomu, always the polar opposite of pleased, vanishes back into his secret place yet again and leaves his body double to look creepy and dour in his place for the time being. Flames would dearly love to try rolling along the floor in an attempt to rub off the spider web that is now stuck to him, but he knows that that would mean risking rolling over those poisonous spikes. All he can do for now is stay put and try to thaw his face out. It shouldn't be much longer now; he can already feel the icy muzzle pressing against his snout getting slicker as it melts.

Ref's Notes

-For future reference, 25% health substitutes are no longer allowed as per the September 1st news. I went ahead and allowed it this time, though, because the command was issued before the rules changed.
-Tri Attack froze Flames's muzzle shut, preventing him from attacking Nozomu's sub. I took a little energy off for his panicky thrashing and his attempts to heat his mouth as well.
-Forgive any weird formatting errors like words running together. Something is going wrong between the doc I'm writing this in and copypasting it into the post. :/ Stupid formatting issues. There's always something.
-I figure now is a pretty good time to say that I'm most likely going to have to drop this battle. I'm simply finding it hard to focus on reffing (or anything) at the moment, and with school starting again soon I just don't feel comfortable handling six battles, especially not when one of them promises to be as time-consuming and lengthy as this one. I will see what I can do about finding a replacement, though, or you guys can go pester someone specific if you'd like them to take it and think they will. Sorry, but... yeah. I need to cut back a little. :/

Y SO EMO, NOZOMU. Y SO EMO

IF you can Swagger Flames without getting close enough to be an easy target Flame Wheel and related attacks, then do it. YOU CAN BE EMO ENOUGH TO SEND PEOPLE INTO BERSERK RAGES believe in me who believes in you[r fail]. Plus then he... might fail at noticing the spikes.

NEXT, SCREECH (of woe). It could totally help, you know. (Also yes you do learn Screech. If only in GS. And at level 45 which is kind of FULL OF FAIL kind of like an emobug)

FINALLY, PSYCHIC. Throw - well, either of them, but preferably the bird - into a SPIKE OR SOMETHING. mmm Emobug the Impaler

IF ANYONE IS REALLY CLOSE TO YOU AT ANY POINT IN TIME go for Frustration. HIT THEM WITH THE POWER OF FUTILITY AND EMO maybe then they might ~understand~ /wrists

And with that, Jade Dragonair is disqualified. She cannot make or accept new challenges until November 22, 2008. Carrion gets one experience point.

I assume that the two of you will want to continue, yes? If so, it is now Ruieko's turn to attack. If not, let me know and I'll work out the rest of the prizes.

Flames let's use Flame Wheel, hopefully that will melt the ice from your face. After that, use Will-O-Wisp then Bite, but if Itoshiki Nozomu is too far use Flame Thrower.

Round Two: Begin!

Before any of the Pokémon (or the substitute) can do so much as inhale Carrion vanishes from his spike-perch in a brilliant flash of white light, never to return. Flames stops and stares at the spot his opponent just disappeared from, temporarily too bewildered to worry about his frozen face. Nozomu and his substitute... eh, don't care so much. Good riddance, or something like that. Flames blinks rapidly a few times in an attempt to offset the effects of the bright flash and then returns his focus to the task at hand: freeing his face. If trying to melt the icy muzzle from the inside won't work... the air immediately around Flames's body experiences a sharp spike in temperature as he heats up, embers leaping from his fur, and then without further warning the Growlithe's entire body bursts into flame. The heat is so intense that even Flames is a little uncomfortable, but he fights the urge to run or put it out and instead does his best to remain still untill the ice is gone; it's not as though he can hit Nozomu from here anyway, and running around haphazardly with all these poison barbs on the ground is a fairly dumb idea. He doesn't have to wait long; the rest of the ice melts away in seconds, and any remaining moisture on his snout fizzles away soon afterward. The flames die away and the puppy opens his mouth wide and sighs deeply, enjoying the freedom to move his jaws. The thin strands of webbing that were sticking to him have also been incinerated; icing on the cake.

Nozomu is less than thrilled to see that the dog's mouth is no longer locked shut and knows that fire is probably due to start spewing out of it again soon. Oh, stop with the wonderful surprises, he thinks, he might just get a heart attack and die of giddy glee. And since the Spinarak is not in the mood to be barbecued or lose his double any time soon, he figures now would be a good time to do something else to incapacitate Flames. He grumbles as he crawls out of his hiding place and keeps moving until he is sitting on the end of a spike and glaring down at Flames. Nozomu hisses down at his foe and waves his two forelegs in a bid to get the Growlithe's attention; when Flames looks up, slightly confused, the spider throws a string of nasty insults his way. Flames is, naturally, quite incensed when he hears all of this. His life is not pointless, he does have a bright future as a battler and his mother most certainly does not do that! Uh. He hopes she doesn't do that. Angry barking and snarling echoes around the cube as Flames shouts and threatens and works himself into a lather. Satisfied that the little orange dog is now almost as upset as he is (no one can EVER be in as much DESPAIR as Nozomu), the Spinarak backs up and retreats to safety.

And he manages to retreat just in time. The entire arena begins to vibrate all of a sudden, shaking and humming beneath Flames's feet and nearly rattling the substitute off of its spike. Without warning the cube gives a humongous lurch and tumbles over onto its side. Flames forgets his anger entirely when the floor magically transforms into the wall. He yelps in terror and slides down, bouncing off of the sides of the spikes as he slides down; the poisoned barbs ping and clink as they tumble down around him. He finally comes to a stop, draped uncomfortably over one spike near the new floor... and then the cube gives another shudder and lurches forward once more. More clattering and yelping ensues, but Flames does not fall very far this time; he ends up slumped over a spike not very far from the new ceiling (oh, if only it were still the floor...) and whimpering fitfully. The harrowing experience isn't entirely without its benefits, however; at least the substitute has finally been dislodged and is now on its back in a corner. If Flames can actually manage to get all the way down safely, the confounded thing will be in easy reach. The poison barbs lie clustered in the opposite corner, directly beneath the suspended dog.

Said dog is so rattled by being tossed around haphazardly and so upset about his position and predicament that he simply can't think about trying to burn his opponent; honestly, all he can think about for the moment is trying not to hyperventilate. This is made considerably more difficult when the real Nozomu reappears again. Nozomu is puzzled when he pokes his head out of nowhere; where'd his substitute go? It takes him a moment to realize that it's now on the floor, cracked ever so slightly and generally a much easier target. Well, crap. This sucks. It sucks so badly that he just wants to scream. So he does. Nozomu lets out a horrible shriek that reverberates around the upended cube and grates horribly on Flames's eardrums and frazzled nerves. He's still scared and shaken, yes... but now he remembers exactly why he hates that stupid bug.

Flames wriggles unhappily on his spike, trying his best to edge his way over to the wall and away from the pointy tip and fifty-foot drop. There's no way in hell he's going to be able to bite Nozomu's substitute from here, much as he'd like to sink his teeth into it. He lets out another sigh, this one more dejected and defeated than the first, before taking a deep breath to fill his fire sac with oxygen. A long streamer of searing hot flames shoots out of his jaws and down in the general direction of the webbing substitute... but doesn't make it all the way there. Flames simply doesn't have the kind of strength or control necessary to push the attack that far, and so he lets it die with a third frustrated sigh.

Nozomu, however, doesn't think that his opponent is quite frustrated enough. Maybe actually impaling him on a spike will do the trick. The Spinarak closes his eyes and focuses as hard as he can, reaching out with his hatred and misery and wrapping it clumsily around Flames's body. Maintaining this level of mental control puts a lot of strain on Nozomu, and he can't muster enough power to actually pick Flames up and sling him around. He does, however, manage to drag the puppy off of the spike he is draped over. Flames drops with a terrified squeal, his side and limbs copping a few decent-sized scratches as he flails on his way down. He is unable to hook his paw around a spike and catch himself, but thanks to a merciful turn of luck he hits the ground in between the first few rows of deadly points instead of landing directly on them. The impact knocks the wind clear out of him and stings something awful, but at least he doesn't he isn't sporting a fetching new hole in his side.

Ref's Notes

-Flame Wheel melted the ice holding Flames's mouth shut and also burned away the web sticking to him.
-I was looking at a die as I tried to figure out the whole flipping thing, and I think I got the general idea sort of right. If you have any grievous complaints about my poor attempt at working that out logically, yell.
-Flames and the substitute took a little damage from being knocked around.
-Flames was effectively fully confused on the second action.
-There is too much distance between Flames and the substitute for a Growlithe's Flamethrower to cover, so the attack missed.
-Spinarak doesn't really have the kind of psychic ability necessary to fling anything into a spike, but Nozomu was able to dislodge Flames and cause him to fall. The reduced ability, plus Nozomu's intent to throw rather than inflict direct harm, lowered the actual damage dealt by Psychic. Flames did take damage from his landing, however.

Nozomu's Psychic dragged him off the spike and he hit the ground roughly between the toxic spikes and the giant ones, as I thought I explained in the last paragraph. Ops, I skimmed through it too quickly. Sorry about that. -_-

Ouch, Flames, that's got to have hurt. I guess that's one way to get down though, right? -.-'

Okay, well, let's see if you can make your way closer to either Itoshiki Nozomu or his substitute, whichever makes an easier target and use Flamethrower. However, if you can't make your way there because of pain or something, use Safeguard in case the cube rotates again.

Next, you'll have to get up and get closers to Itoshiki Nozomu or his substitute and use Flamethrower if you haven't already. Though, if you have use Safeguard. Finally, use either Flamethrowers again or Chill since I can't think of anything else right now.
