Mythbusters LIVE!

Minnow

If you're gonna dig, dig to the heavens!
Woo-hoo! I just saw they Mythbusters Live show today! A few months ago my dad had read about them coming to do an appearance at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall here in Portland, but the tickets where way too expensive. Just last week, though, the prices dropped to affordable levels, and so we snapped up the opportunity while we could!

The show was pretty awesome. We had seats pretty far back up on the balcony so we brought some binoculars to see the stage better. For the first half hour or so Adam and Jamie talked generally about the show and certain experiences and such. There was an announcer guy who asked them questions, too. After that they answered audience questions/comments/myth ideas/etc. which took up the rest of the time. At the very end they showed a blooper reel and what Adam called "Explosion Porn". The whole show was pretty cool.

They seemed to be selling shirts, too, because I saw some people wearing shirts that had Adam and Jamie on the front and the Mythbusters logo on the back. I didn't see anyone selling them though, oh well.

So, yeah. Did anyone else see the show? They said they'd done one in Seattle and they probably went other places too.

Unfortunately, no, I haven't seen "Mythbusters Live", and I'm quite envious of you right now. I did see the Build Team at Dragon*Con two years ago, though, which was pretty cool and kind of the same thing. Very cool.

Nah, I didn't see it. I didn't know the crew were doing one up until I read this thread. Sounds incredibly cool from your version of events.

Did you ask them anything or did you leave that job to the rest of the audience?

Awesome, only Adam and Jamie were at this one, though. It would have been even better if the Build Team was there, but I guess they can't spare everyone.

Well, the way it happened was that there were several microphones at the end of each row of seats on the ground floor. I'm guessing what happened is that when A. or J. pointed to someone ("Alright, next question. How about you?") the microphones guys went over to them or passed down a mike or something. I couldn't see down there because I was about halfway up the balcony so pretty much everything except the stage itself was blocked. There weren't any mikes in the balcony, though, so I didn't get to ask.

The questions that people asked ranged from very good ("What do you do in your spare time?", "What is each show's average budget?") to moderately good ("Which build team member is your favorite?", "You should test whether yawning is contagious.*") to horrifically bad ("You should test if Jamie's beret is superglued on!"). It was entertaining throughout, though.

*If you don't get it, you haven't watched enough Mythbusters.

....THEY DO MYTHBUSTERS LIVE!?!??!

Lucky. Do they have a website or something so I can check when/where they might do a show? I would love to see this live, considering how disapointing it is for me whenever the Discovery channel shows re-runs rather than new episodes on Wednesdays. Of course, it wouldn't be the same as actually seeing them DO the experiments and test the myths, but still. Mythbusters is the best show that exists on the Discovery Channel, and if I haven't seen an episode that they are about to show, then I watch it.

You know, it was actually surprisingly hard for me to find information about the live show they were doing. At least specifically about the one that they did here in Portland. The best I could get was on the Concert Hall website. It just said something like: "Mythbusters LIVE-$120, Coming Soon!".

So you might have to do a bit of searching to find one in your area if they're doing any more.
