How far would you go to bring someone back from the dead?
spooky scary skeletons
One night in late 20th century Sumida, Tokyo, an occult ritual awakens the powers of a set of relics, each associated with one of the seven* mysteries of Honjo. The people in possession of these curse stones – dubbed "curse bearers" – must use their curses and outsmart the others to seize the fabled Rite of Resurrection.*There are actually nine mysteries of Honjo, but that doesn't roll off the tongue. (This is not a spoiler, it's revealed just about immediately.)
about
- Hosts: @Eifie and @Keldeo, via @The Storyteller
- Start date: TBD, maybe early February, maybe even late January. Let us know when you DM to sign up if you have any preferences.
- Phases: 72 hour days, 48 hour nights. Phases start and end at 7 PM EDT. :59 good, :00 bad - votes made at 6:59 PM EDT will be counted, but votes made with a timestamp of 7:00 PM EDT at the end of a phase will not be counted.
- Setup: Anonymous game, day start, secret roles, roles and alignment will be revealed upon death with most curse stone information (if any) redacted. LYLO/MYLO will not be announced and votes will not be locked.
- Flavour is randomized and not alignment indicative, and no knowledge of Paranormasight is necessary. There won't be any spoilers, either.
- No out-of-thread communication allowed except where explicitly specified by the host.
- This game is not bastard (unless you consider potentially annoying post compulsions/restrictions bastard - see curse stones below). Despite the flavour of the game, there are no revival mechanics. Some roles may be able to affect the game in some way after their death. In this case those roles will not have access to anything like deadchat until they can no longer affect the game.
- Rules subject to change. Any changes will be announced in this thread.
game mechanic: curse stones
- Many roles will be in possession of a curse stone. Curse stones will have conditions that may require people to act in unnatural ways. Some curse stones require the user to fulfill their condition, while others will require the user to manipulate other people into fulfilling their condition. If a curse stone's condition is met, the owner may use their curse to perform an action or power up their regular action in a way as specified in their role PM.
- Despite the name, curses are not all negative actions. Town can have curse stones, and fulfilling the conditions of their curses can result in positive outcomes for the town.
- Players are forbidden from claiming the conditions of their curse, truthfully or falsely. But you are absolutely encouraged to purposely behave in an odd manner to fake having a curse stone.
- Upon flip, it will be revealed whether or not a player had a curse stone, and which one it was. Other details about a player's curse stone (what the condition is, what the curse does) will be redacted.
- There are nine curse stones, but it is likely that not all of them will be included in the game. We will randomize which curse stone gets which ability to avoid spoilers, so no story knowledge is necessary, and abilities will be unrelated to canonical curses. A list of the nine curse stones will be posted in the game thread for reference.
anon game rules
The point of an anon game is that no one knows for sure who's playing or who they're talking to (and the conditions added by the curse stones add to that unpredictability, which is why this game specifically is anonymous). You can of course speculate as much as you would like in your own head, but discussion of identities is not allowed in the game thread. You can try to disguise your identity or you can put no effort into that whatsoever, whatever is most fun for you. It is hard to give concrete rules and draw a line on identity-related things, so here are a few guidelines - please try your best to keep to the spirit of the game.not allowed:
- telling anyone you signed up for this game
- posting in the game thread using your real account (we will try to make the software stop you from doing this by accident)
- claiming your real identity (truthfully or not) in the game thread (e.g. "I'm Eifie", or even "my name is a palindrome")
- speculating about other players' real identities in the game thread
allowed:
- changing your typing style
- pretending to be someone else (by copying their typing style, making references to your stuffed dog, making something up about how you have to put the kids to bed...)
- typing exactly as you normally would non-anonymously
- claiming your real identity in mafia chat
- speculating about other players' real identities in mafia chat
