Arena: Anomaly Spring

Anomaly spring is a ring of water five meters deep surrounding an island about six meters across and five meters wide; the island is covered with fine, white sand and dotted with palm trees. The whole place is located in a cylindrical cave with an opening at the top. Three small mounds of sand are at the edges of the cave for the trainers and referee to stand. At first glance, the area seems normal – sure, palm trees generally don't grow in caves, but weirder things happen. It is when you stay there for a longer period of time when strange things start to occur. The weight of things start fluctuating wildly, time seems to flow in an abstract semi-reversed fashion, and strong winds somehow blow in this enclosed space. It's as if physics suddenly decided to go on break.

At the beginning of every tother, there is a 30% chance of these effects taking place.

25%: Trick Room takes effect until the end of the round.
25%: Gravity takes effect until the end of the round.
25%: Gravity decreases until the end of the round. Consequently, flying and levitating take much less energy, and contact attacks have -10% accuracy.
20%: Tailwind takes effect for one of the combatants until the end of the round.
5%: Some strange force fiddles with the pokemons' brains, causing them to have a penchant for seeking out hidden treasures; both pokemon now are considered to have Pickup in addition to their normal ability. Pokemon already with Pickup earn double. This effect lasts for three rounds and can only happen once.

The RE-MA are small pods placed on whatever limbs the pokemon in question uses to move, and enhance the muscles in those areas, making the pokemon quicker and, in effect, giving it an automatic boost of one level to their speed and evasion. These boosts apply mostly like normal ones, although they cannot be altered or stolen due to the mechanical nature of the pods. The pokemon's stats can still be decreased to the normal minimum by stat down moves, and they cannot reach above six levels.
Effect:Automatic +1 boost to speed and evasion, and apply like normal stat boosts but cannot be outright stolen or swapped.

I'll send out Persephone, my Female Horsea with Sniper.

~ ~ ~

Gah. Sorry. I didn't even realize this battle was going on. I haven't been at a computer for a few days and didn't think the battle would be picked up since then. Sorry. But, whatever, let's battle!

Let's go with Haokah, My Elekid. I'll send him out on the shore, near wherever Persephone is.

Okay! Let's open with Thunder Wave, since I love paralysis. If she Protects, use Light Screen. Next, use Thunderbolt, or Thunder Wave if you haven't used it previously. If she protects, Barrier. Finally, Thunderbolt again; if you can't use it for some reason, use Charge Beam. If she protects, Barrier.

Thunder Wave/Light Screen ~ Thunderbolt/Barrier/Thunder Wave ~ Thunderbolt/Barrier/Charge Beam

Well, Persephone, let's get this started. Protect the first round; it's okay if he gets one little light screen in. Go for Disable to get rid of that Thunder Wave which hopefully won't have hit you yet. If it does, though, don't worry too much, it'll fade eventually. Finish up with a Toxic.

If at any time you're fully paralyzed, Rest for an action if you can.

Anomaly Spring is a quiet sort of place, tucked in a little-known cave in an obscure corner of the wilderness. Even the wild pokémon leave the place alone--though humans might not be familiar with the place, the wildlife know of the outright weird things that happen in its vicinity. The cave looks appealing enough, of course: a ragged hole in the ceiling letting in the light necessary to nourish the spring's signature palm trees and the sand scattered over its floor smooth and pristine. Of course, any wilds unspoilt and beautiful are natural magnets for trainers, and it was inevitable that someone would eventually stumble on it and decide to have a battle here.

As it turns out, that someone is Prettzel, and today he leads with him Minnow and a referee, guiding them through the maze of damp tunnels leading down to the cave until they stumble out onto the sand ringing the spring itself. They consult for a few minutes--the palm trees make excellent conversation pieces--but after that they gravitate towards the mounds of sand that make convenient platforms for trainers and referee... almost as though someone knew they would be coming.

Upon reaching his spot, Minnow sends a pokéball spinning out over the water, where it cracks open a spews a blast of energy into the spring below. The glare of white light settles into the form of Persephone the horsea, who squeaks cheerfully as she enjoys swimming in circles through the clear, cold water. Prettzel is quick to respond by throwing out a pokémon of his own. His fighter materializes on the island at the spring's center rather than in the water, though. Haokah the elekid lets out a crackle of excitement, giving his arms a couple of warm-up spins, then stops, perplexed, as a strange ripple passes through the air around him.

Pokémon and trainers alike are startled as the atmosphere in the cave changes, a faint tracery of fissures in the stone around its edges glowing with iridescent energy as some strange force takes hold of the arena. Persephone feels energized, able to flit around the spring at incredible speeds, but Haokah feels inexplicably sluggish, as even swinging his arms seems to take a ridiculous amount of effort. Despite the strange change in conditions, though, the battle must go on, and as orders ring out around the cave the pokémon get into their battle stances, ready to do their best no matter what the limitations of the terrain.

- Energetic and excited.

Prettzel (OO)

Haokah (M) <Electrizer>

- What's going on?

Persephone turns to face Haokah, freezing in place as she extends a bubble of pure energy into the air around her body, sealing herself away behind a powerful wall of force. The elekid watches her closely, trying to figure out what she's doing; a faint shimmer in the air and her unnaturally stiff posture suggest that she's put up a protect, so the elekid abandons thoughts of attack and prepares his own defense instead. Extending his paws in front of him, the elekid forces energy out through his claws, glowing golden light spreading through the air to form an unbroken bubble that protects him on all sides.

With the danger of thunderbolt passed, Persephone lets her protect drop. She's left with nothing to do but float nervously on the surface of the water while Haokah finishes his light screen. There's no way for her to disable an attack without having seen it performed, and so she is forced to wait for the elekid to take strike before she can make her next move.

Fortunately--or perhaps not--Persephone doesn't have long to wait. Haokah puts the finishing touches on his light screen so that it hangs unsupported in the air before him, then peers out through its golden haze. Persephone is floating idle, so the elekid begins to pinwheel his arms, working against the crushing feeling of the trick room to wind up to an impressive clip until electricity shoots fitfully between the prongs on his head. Concentrating his built-up charge, the elekid sends a mild burst of power sizzling across the arena to strike Persephone.

Pain and convulsions wash over the horsea as the thunder wave assaults her system, but she forces herself to remain calm, calling on arcane powers to trace the attack back to its source in Haokah's mind and temporarily block it from his memory. A weird tingling starts up behind the elekid's eyes. Haokah taps his skull with a claw, confused. Feels... weird. What's going on?

He doesn't have long to wonder. As the initial spasms caused by thunder wave lose their hold on Persephone's body, the horsea is surprised to find that, if anything, she feels even more limber and energetic than before. Drawing a bead on Haokah, Persephone concocts a vile brew of toxins deep in her ink sacs, then spits a precisely-aimed blob of poisonous sludge at the elekid. The toxic connects, spraying Haokah with burning, vile-smelling sludge. The elekid snarls and sparks as he tries to scrape the stuff off his fur, but it's a losing battle; the toxic is eating its way through his skin and into his bloodstream already.

Abandoning the futile effort, Haokah instead concentrates on revenge. He starts to pinwheel his arms again, even more furiously than before. Electricity roars and crackles in the air around him as he charges up, then gathers accumulated power into a single devastating bolt of energy. The thunderbolt sears into Persephone's body, and for a moment she is blinded both by the attack's discharge and the wave of pain that screams up from all corners of her form. Haokah grins wickedly as the horsea slumps a bit in the water, tendrils of smoke rising from her body as she shivers.

Final Notes
- Disable only works on the last attack used in battle, so Persehone had to wait to be struck by thunder wave before she could use it.
- Prettzel attacks first next round.

That went as well as can be expected; the Toxic's going to be irritating, but we can deal with it. Anyway, start off with Swagger; if she Protects, set up a Substitute(10%), and if she uses Double Team, a Discharge will do nicely. Next action, use Thunderbolt, and Chill if she Protects. If you haven't used it before (Or it missed) and can now, use Swagger--try to be loud about it, in case she has clones. Finally, use Charge Beam. Chill if she Protects.

Swagger/Substitute(10%)/Discharge ~ Thunderbolt/Chill/Swagger ~ Charge Beam/Chill

Right. Start off with Waterfall. If he flinches then take advantage of the opportunity and use Hail. If not then go ahead and use Swagger yourself. For the last action, just let the Charge Beam hit you and Rest afterwords. If Charge Beam never hits you for any reason the use Blizzard. Hang in there!

Persephone twitches her fin and wags her tail as the pain from the thunderbolt recedes, making sure that everything still works before she makes her next attack on Haokah. All seems to be in order, and for the moment her paralysis isn't playing up either, and so, with the unnatural speed granted by the trick room behind her, Persephone jets forward through the water and then propels herself straight out of it with the force of a rocket. Haokah is unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of the waterfall and is knocked onto his back as Persephone, cloaked in a raging veil of water, rams into him at high speed. Despite himself Haokah cringes away as the horsea turns and begins to hop her way back into the spring, and by the time he scrambles back to his feet and tries to get her attention with a swagger, she's long gone. The attack wasn't a total win Persephone, though; electricity crackles around her body as a result of her brief contact with Haokah, worsening her existing paralysis.

Not even noticing Haokah's hastily-concocted self-aggrandizement, Persephone plops back into the water and puts a little distance between herself and the elekid. Then, turning her snout up towards the hole in the cave's ceiling, she fires a blast of icy energy into the heavens. As Haokah is fuming about his moment of weakness, dark clouds begin to gather overhead, casting the palm trees in shadow. Moments later, pellets of hail start to fall to earth, annoying Haokah and Persephone in kind as they make up a kind of stinging downpour.

He may have missed his chance to attack earlier, but Haokah's not about to let that happen again. His arms blur as he spins them as fast as he can, face contorted in concentration as he achieves more and more velocity. Electricity snarls and crackles around the protrusions on his head as charge builds, and then Haokah abruptly stops spinning his arms, pointing both towards Persephone as he hurls a thunderbolt even larger than the one that came before at the horsea.

Persephone jerks back as the thunderbolt strikes, eyes watering with pain and body shuddering as the lightning eats its way along her nerves. She's so preoccupied that at first she doesn't notice the flickering of the illuminated cracks running through the walls and ceiling of the cave. One by one the networks of fissures go dark, and as they do, the trick room's grip over the arena fades as well. Just as Persephone is starting to recover from the thunderbolt, time spins back in the right direction and the reality of her paralysis comes crashing down on her all at once. Even as the trick room vanishes, so too does Haokah's light screen, the barrier ultimately untested, but on the whole he feels much better for the lifting of the distortion from the arena.

As the horsea flounders, struggling against the sudden stiffness of her body, Haokah prepares another burst of electricity, this one much less powerful than the thunderbolt. Persephone definitely feels the sparkling charge beam as it buzzes through her body, though--and with that, she decides she really ought to hit reset. Closing her eyes, the horsea summons up all her innate healing powers, sinking into a deep trance as energy rages through her body, loosening cramped muscles and repairing burned scales and damaged nerve endings. Haokah isn't entirely sure what Persephone is up to, but if he realized that all the damage he's done the horsea is being erased, he'd no doubt be feeling a bit less smug about his successful round.
