Shadow Serenity vs. thunder

Shock wave unless it uses a status move in which case magic coat and if it protects chill

shock wave/magic coat/chill~shock wave/magic coat/chill~shock wave/magic coat/chill

Oh crud. We're not doing so well, are we?

Firstly, if you're ever fully paralyzed or feeling too dizzy to attack properly (if you can even be sure of that), Chill.

Anyway, the Light Screen from earlier should help you take those electric attacks, so... I suppose our best bet is to just attack back and hope for the best. Open with Hidden Power to see what type we can score. Do that until it works. Then just spam Water Pulse for any leftover actions and hope we can confuse it back.

Arena: Underwater Battlefield
The field is a standard battle arena, submerged underwater at the bottom of a steep cliff, where it has been abandoned. It is highly advised against using pokemon that require air to breathe, as the battle will take place near the ocean floor and the surface is rather far away; going up to take a breath of air will require a full action, and then another action to return to the fight. These pokemon will need air at least once every two rounds. Water pokemon and pokemon that don't breathe at all do not need to return to the surface. (Trainers get free scuba gear, no need to worry about drowning!)

Obviously, fire-type moves will be useless underwater. Similarly, weather moves will not have any effects below the surface. While underwater, any pokemon with Swift Swim may consider that ability in effect. Any pokemon not used to moving around in water, whether they can breathe or not, have their speed reduced by 1.
Arena status: A mild whirlpool is swirling on the arena (5 more actions). Some electricity is hanging loose about the water; a bit of it is coiling with the whirlpool. At the bottom of the arena, small pieces of shattered metal lay.

-----

Commands are issued on each side, both trainers with their own plans in mind to suceed.

Magnemite opened the round by broadcasting an ample electric wave -- a good part of it was sucked by the whrilpool, but the attack landed true and as strong as ever -- except for the barrier of light that stood in the way, bouncing part of the voltage away to wander by the waters.

In response, Koyomi began to spin, reaching for a primordial power that would be unleashed by the tips of the "arms". As the attack's forces gathered, a deep blue circle surrounded the swirling starfish. When it settled down at last, it unleashed five flurries of orbs, that struck their target full-on.

One more Shock Wave was unleashed, and more electricity was gathered on the arena. After being hit again, the Staryu mustered up no counterstrike; instead, it lay completely still and stiff, so cramped even resting was one order that couldn't be carried out properly.

The third voltaic pulse of the round flew, and the whrilpool became almost completely surrounded by sparks.

Shadow Serenity's Pokémon may or may not have been trying to counterstrike -- it was hard to tell what it meant as it roamed about dizzily to eventually have a slight disagreement with the cliff walls that surrounded the charged-up battlefield. The deduction in size may have softened the thud, but it hurt nonetheless.

As the swirling waters lost speed, the referee began to feel suspicious about the high voltage being gathered within the pool. Could it eventually result in accidental shocks for man and Pokémon alike?

Additional notes:
- Of all types, Koyomi's Hidden Power rolled... Water.
- Koyomi was paralyzed on the second action and hit itself in confusion on the third. By the way, full paralysis and confusion hits both stop chills as much as they stop other moves.
- Shadow Serenity attacks first next round.

Hm... I wasn't sure about confusion, but I could have sworn chilling was okay while fully paralyzed, since I've seen that order given in just about every other battle. Oh well, minor nitpick.

Let's see... I guess we'll just stick with the same thing. Do whatever you can to keep that Whirlpool going, and once you've done that, spam Water Pulse. Come on now, don't let me down. D:

Whirlpool ~ Whirlpool/Water Pulse ~ Whirlpool/Water Pulse

Whether or not chilling succeeds while fully paralyzed/confused/etc. varies from ref to ref, though even refs who have it succeed usually make it less effective than it would be under normal circumstances. It may also vary situationally, for example depending on the condition's severity.

-----

More commands were issued, and it was time for the match to beign moving once more.

Speaking of moving, that was what Koyomi tried to do; however, in its attempts to spin about while confused, it failed to do much other than hit the wall again. It was no help that, next thing, it was subjected to a horrible screech produced by the rubbing of two metallic parts.

The Staryu made further attempts to follow what was commanded. It tried to renew the whirlpool that surrounded the Magnemite... But just one touch upon the electrified typhoon was enough to discharge a large voltage upon the starfish.

The knockback of the electrical surge gave Magnemite enough time to carefully track down its target, placing an automatic aim upon it. Afterwards, it gathered a large a voltage around itself, unleashing it as a ball. Usually, this attack moves erratically; however, the lock-on system forced it to travel straight and land accurate, hindered by no more than maybe a couple of volts lost to the water and the Light Screen, which disappeared right after making its final defense.

Just then, the whirlpool finally stopped. As soon as it petered out, all of the sparks it had gathered flew in several directions; both Pokémon averted them, but the trainers and the referee were not spared of the shock.

Koyomi finished the round by spinning about to create a new whirlpool. It was quite frustrating for the Magnemite that had just been set free, but there was nothing to be done about it -- the round was over.

- As for the electrical discharge released by the whirlpool once it stopped, it was supposed to hit something, but misses were rolled for both Pokémon.

We're not doin' so hot, Koyomi. Let's see what we can do to remedy the situation.

Firstly, we need to slow Magnemite down. Go for Thunder Wave until it hits.

Let's see... it should pull a Shock Wave first, in that case. So if you have any remaining actions (and lord, I hope you do), go for Pain Split; you won't get anything, but it should drop Magnemite's health down a good chunk. Round it off with Swagger.

-----

The battle commenced once more, much to the relief of the profoundly annoyed Magnemite.

Itching for revenge, thunder's Pokémon gathered the, well, thunder in its magnets, releasing a wide wave through the water. There was absolutely no way the weakened, paralyzed starfish could maneuver around the attack; it landed true, doing nothing to help its target's poor mental condition. Desperate to recompose, Koyomi ignored its commands and merely wandered about the waters, neverminding its senses. That was a mistake -- you can only roam toward only direction for so much time before you bump onto a wall.

The Steel-type wanted to keep on the offensive, but understood its commands and was frankly satisfied with the damage it had already laid down. Its single eye closed, it settled down and relaxed within the swirling waters.

Meanwhile, its opponent had yet to have its fill of blind nomadism on the battlefield. It was inevtiable that it would hit a rock face for more minimal health loss.

Eager to inflict more pain, the unbreathing battler used his so to say appendages in order to attract that metallic shards that were lying on the ground, forging a ball out of them once more and loading the product in order to give it explosive proprieties.

As before, the result was less than satisfying; an explosion underwater would have to be very much stronger in order to do much. That the attack's target had an elemental resistance to the attack once more made it so it would fall just short of nigh ineffective.

Now with its composture regained temporarily, the Staryu wanted to counterattack. However, its condition was not yet done gripping it. The starfish Pokémon struggled, but completely failed to move until after the referee called the end of the sixth round.

-----

Both Pokémon seemed to be up for the next round, even though they were thoroughly weakened. They exchanged glares -- more like somehow oozing off expression in Koyomi's case -- until the signal to recommence battling was given.

Magnemite once more braced itself, covered in a shimmering coat and expecting one more weak electrical pulse to come and bounce off pathetically. Nothing of the sort came. The one who was to send said bolt had yet to regain their senses, and even managed to bump against the wall again.

It was only when the magnet Pokémon lowered its guard to rest that the Thunder Wave struck, messing its circuits up and greatly restricting its control over itself.

Angered, it started charging up. Then, right after adeptly evading an incoming attack which it did not even bother to identift, it released a wide-ranged blast of volts, severely crippling its target.

The round ended with the previously rather perky fighters now one barely able to stop the swirling waters from spinning it around as they would wish and other on the brink of defeat.

-----

The round opened again, both trainers ready for what would soon become a very early game Pokémon swap.

Recomposing itself, Magnemite used the powers that its name implies to gather chinks of steel, fashioning them into a bomb. It made a vicious toss at the seemingly helpless target... Only to watch the device selfdestruct a safe distance away from the intended spot, a pale green shimmer appearing in the affected area. If Koyomi could, it would smirk.

The Staryu proceeded to conjure a shield of light from its blinking core, hoping that the Pokémon after it would avenge it well.

thunder's Pokémon was thoroughly fatigued. Yet, ever loyal, it struggled to gather the metallic bits again. With the last of its strenght, it hurled the explosive... And was left to be spun by the whirlpool, single eye closed, never to see whether he hit the mark or not. At least not yet.

His sacrifice was not in vain, though. The defenseless starfish muttered its hopes for the next sendout, and allowed the restrained explosion to take the last of its vitality away.

The double knockout was surprising, but nonetheless, the following procedures were clear.

Gastly? That's not at all what I expected. But I guess it makes sense, since ghosts don't breathe... do they? o.O

I suppose I should wait for clarification, but I suspect ghosts are fine. I'll go on and send out Diamond, my own ghostie.

As for strategy... well, assuming ghosts don't breathe, we'll start by throwing a Confuse Ray at Gastly. Do that till it works, otherwise just start a Shadow Ball onslaught once it's confused. And if you do need to breathe, do that, come on back, and go for that Confuse Ray.
