• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Sweet Nature's Song

Her tiny form danced across the surface of the water creating even tinier ripples. Her delicate, soft gossamer wings beat steadily, keeping her aloft. Carefree, she whirled across the surface of the pond, twirling and spinning.

With a furious beating of her thin, membranous wings, she rose from the pond and into the sky, floating like a leaf caught in the wind. With an impossibly powerful, piercing voice for a being so small, she began to sing.

At once, the forest's smallest creatures left their hiding places to join the miniature dancer. Ladybirds and fireflies whirled around her, joining her dance with abandon. All sorts of creatures danced along, diving and tumbling through the air.

With a laugh of gay merriment the sprite dove down through the air and skimmed the water with her minuscule toes. A trail of under-sized leaves followed after her, along with the forest creatures participating in her dance.

She led her companions through the woods, dancing, turning through the ancient oaks. Around one tree, through the branches of the next they went, buzzing with a kind of mirth never before seen in the forest.

The burgeoning mass arrived at a pond not unlike the one that had just been left, and the pixie stepped onto its surface lightly. Her entourage danced around her in a wide circle, never getting too close as the perfect flyspeck of a creature danced her dance before them.

There was a curious music in the air that followed her footsteps, sounding as clear as crystal whenever her toes touched the water. As she danced, a long dragonfly joined in. The two creatures danced around each other joyfully. The music reached a crescendo and, spinning delicately on the surface, the fairy sang.

Startled, the dragonfly shot past, knocking her into the water. Her gossamer wings were plunged into the water along with the rest of her body. The music fell silent as the beautiful forest guardian struggled in the water.

In moments, she had drowned, and her body sank to the bottom of the pond.

A few mistakes, most notably you using 'crescendo' in the place of 'climax' (unless you really meant 'crescendo', in which case it sounded not as effective as you could've portrayed it as). Otherwise, it's a sweet little thing. I like how you ended the piece without drama, almost distantly, as if nature isn't really as sweet as it's made out to be. Nice work.
