G/S/C Team Building help!

So I just picked up Gold again, and I was looking for advice on how to round out my team. I feel I need a fire and/or an electric type in my team, and I heard Ampharos was a bad idea for the speed and move set. As I just found out, electric types are slim pickings. Here's my pokemon now and the team I plan on having. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Pokemon at the moment:
Feraligatr(41)
Pidgeotto(23)
Forretress(32)
Sudowoodo(22, rock smasher/pusher)
Scyther(22)
Flaaffy(25)<-This spot isnt permanently taken yet.

Future:
Feraligatr
Lugia
Arcanine(until I catch Entei)
Forretress
Victreebell
(I realize I'm short one pokemon, currently trying to remember what it was.)

How does this sound? Tips and advice are welcome.

For in-game teams, it really doesn't matter what you use. That's especially true in G/S/C, as Johto's Elite Four is the least challenging of the four generations.

But, just for the sake of doing it...

Type-wise, your team is pretty well-balanced. I would stick with Ampharos as the sixth. Although, it's not speedy, it's a distinguished special attacker and one of the more defensive-minded electric-types in all of Pokémon.

- Thunderpunch
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Wave
- Light Screen

It's not perfect, but Fire Punch covers some of the annoying weaknesses Ampharos has.

As for the rest of your team, Arcanine, Victreebel, Feraligatr, and Forretress are good. Personally, I would ditch Lugia for something a little more fun to train like Xatu. As far as I see it, legendaries just ruin in-game battles by being overpowered. But, that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply!

Reason I asked is that I'm planning on training this team in my HG game and this is pretty much my trial/error outline for a team.

My team atm is:

Feraligatr(Ol Gregg)-57
Jolteon(Jiggawatts)-52-can still replace with ampharos, which is <10 levels behind
Pidgeot(Louis)-45-Originally a placeholder for aerodactyl, but grew on me
Victreebel(Velena)-45
Arcanine(Fuego)-44
Forretress(Bunker)-41-considering replacing this one, not sure what
