Chapter 1: A New Friend and a Fresh Meal
“The times are tough, you know that, Kirlia. We must limit portions.” A young Kirlia sits across from ‘Karmen.’ At least that is what her trainer named her before Judgment. “Remember that we are still here for a reason, Arceus thought of us as the better race. Humans meant nothing, they were here as a test. Us ‘trainer’ Pokémon must stand and prove worthy of a life as a wild.”
The Kirlia stared off into space, a blank expression on his face. “But, that means nothing. If we must survive as a wild, we must learn from a wild. Otherwise, the attempts we put forward are futile.” Kirlia gave his smirk that Karmen had seen so many times. Once he relaxed, from the underbrush around duo, a rustling sound came.
Karmen looked towards the sound and stood. Kirlia stood beside her, ready and willing. As the new Pokémon emerged from the underbrush, Karmen recognized the newcomer. It was a Surskit that Karmen had knocked out in her pre-evo days.
“Ah, a Gengar, what are you doing here?” the little Surskit looks straight at Karmen. “I… I need your help.”
Kirlia looks at Karmen, “What should we do?”
“What do you need, Surskit?” Karmen was ready to defend the life of an innocent.
“I was… forced from my home. I was attempting to get an Oran Berry from the tree, and a Tauros ran straight at the tree. He keep ramming it until I feel. Once I did, though, he was on me. He was enraged.” Surskit took a breath, “He attacked me until another Tauros showed up. I escaped during their dominance struggle. No matter which one won, the one alive will come back.” From behind Surskit, a snort sent Surskit up a tree.
“Calm down. Kirlia, take Surskit away from here. I’ll take care of Tauros.” Once Gengar finished, Kirlia ran with Surskit into the underbrush across the clearing. As Gengar stood her ground, the sun finished setting and the moon filtered through the branches. The clearing that Kirlia and Gengar had made shelter in now grew into a dark area filled with moonpools. Gengar preferred total darkness, but the moonpools provided the enemy a chance.
Soon, the rustling grew faster and louder as a Tauros with bloody horns emerges from the undergrowth. Tauros stormed into the clearing. Gengar, not ten inches away, was unnoticed by Tauros. Tauros whipped his head back and forth, scanning the clearing. He didn’t have to wait long as Gengar jumps out of the shadows, her hand glowing in a semi-white light. Karmen slams her fist into Tauros’ side. The force if the impact knocks Tauros on his side. He scrambles up and charges head on at Karmen. As he passes through her body, she begins focusing. In between her hands, a ball of orange light builds. As she focuses on Tauros, the ball grows until it is of a preferred size. She hurls the ball of fighting energy at Tauros. As it strikes him head on, he is forced back into the underbrush. As the smoke clears, Tauros is standing on unsteady feet. Karmen’s fist glows white again, and she slams her hand into is head. As he slips into unconsciousness, Karmen sees the pained expression in his eyes.
As he passes on, Karmen gets on one knee and begins to dig a fire pit. In this time of pain and suffering, there was no sense in wasting what Arceus gives. Once the hole is deep enough, she lifts Tauros’ body into it. She then calls for Kirlia and Surskit. Once the two arrive and see the meat, they react in different ways. Kirlia jumps, exclaiming something about food. Surskit, on the other hand, climbs a tree and sits. Gengar can understand, many young bug-typed Pokémon, like Surskit, are still vegetarians. Gengar leaves the Surskit alone until after the meal.
