Shoot, a Fire-type.

Okay, Shroud. Don't let him intimidate you. We're just going to have to counter his advantage. First, Dig underground for safety. There, if Blazie follows you, use Rock Slide with the rocks underground. Try to block his path with the rocks while you're at it. Otherwise, stay underground and use Swords Dance and try to deflect any projectiles Blazie might throw at you. Then, do the same thing again; if Blazie chases you, Rock Slide, otherwise stay and use Swords Dance.

BATTLE COMMENCE!
'Tis a tragic thing, war. That said, in the middle of a battle between two armies is a very robust, down-to-earth kind of place to have a Pokémon battle. And that said, it's rather suicidal. Not that MurrMurr gets paid to do any commentary, cynical or otherwise, so he sets up the arena, by having Grimer clear the area of any bystanders and stragglers.

He's glad that the war is currently a few miles down, and hopes it will stay that way. Among the bloodthirsty cries of the victorious and the screams of the dead (not to mention the frantic cries of Pokémon on both sides) comes the steady wingbeats of a League Skarmory, carrying on its back thor165, who eagerly looks around at the dusty wasteland he's chosen. Some brief discussion ensues, but conversation becomes limited as the battle rages on.

Eventually, Chewy the Crispy Crunch descends on another Skarmory, politely declining the chance to view the clipboard and instead glancing around with distaste at the barren arena with one tent being the only thing in sight. MurrMurr signals for the trainers to release their Pokémon, and both do with grins on their faces. As newcomers to the League, this is sure to be an...interesting battle.

Chewy the Crispy Crunch decides first, releasing into one of the few patches of grass the Treecko known as Shroud. Shroud looks displeased to say the least as it takes stock of the battlefield. On the other side of the space, thor165 releases the obvious counterpick: Blazie the Chimchar. The she-monkey is put off by the minimalistic scenery--not much good to launch attacks from. Nonetheless, both Pokémon try to look pleased (or at least not completely unhappy) about their chosen place of battle and concentrate on the commands issued instead before leaping (in Shroud's case, quite literally) into action.

Shroud leaps into action (literally) and immediately opens up by digging a hole straight down. The ground is soft, and parts easily, and so the Treecko is well underground by the time Blazie has noticed that he's gone, being preoccupied with a Flamethrower, of course. The Chimchar, not being aware of any changes in Shroud's location, releases a billowing jet of flames straight over the hole where Shroud now lays buried feet below. However, the intense heat dries out the air around Shroud, and he writhes around and struggles to breathe as the attack passes over and peters out.
<Blazie: -0H, -6E><Shroud: -1H, -6E>
Still underground, Shroud breathes a sigh of relief. Both Pokémon have been given commands to wait, and so there is a brief period of dead silence where nothing can be heard besides the war raging. That particular battle is definitely getting closer. However, after some time, Blazie realizes it's safe to stay where she is, and closes her eyes and begins to think deeply about murder plots, invigorating her mind and awareness. Coincidentally, at the same time Shroud performs a slightly awkward dance in the enclosed space. His muscles relax, and he jump-kicks the air to release some pent-up energy.
<Blazie: -0H, -3E, Sp. Atk +2><Shroud: -0H, -4E, Atk +2>
This time, Blazie takes control over the moment, running over to the hole where Shroud is and opening her mouth wide. Seeing seconds to do something, he kicks a rock upward in self-defense, but ends up with just a shift and a sprained foot. Blazie, oblivious to Shroud's terror, smiles before leaning inward and releasing a huge burst of flames, licking Shroud and singing him in several places. However, Blazie's luck turns when the rocks that were shifted around previously fall on her face and she lands in the tunnel next to Shroud with a mouthful of pebble. Oh, the ignominy.

-Shroud lost 3% energy and 1% health due to asphyxiation caused by Flamethrower.
-Obviously, there is now a slightly larger than Treecko-sized hole in the middle of the arena.
-Flamethrower burned Shroud on the third action.
-Because Shroud was caught in a close-range Flamethrower, he didn't actually use Rock Slide, but just flailed around. Be glad the RNG likes you, Chewy. Otherwise Blazie would have come out of this round with full health.
-I got a little imaginitive with the area (kind of figured that war wouldn't be on a manicured lawn). Just for the record.
-Chewy the Crispy Crunch attacks first next round.

Wait, Blazie's a girl? Oops. Anyways....

Okay, Shroud. Uh, try using Grass Knot to tangle Blazie. First use a Swords Dance. If she tries to get out, use Giga Drain to suck out her energy while healing yourself. Otherwise, use another Swords Dance.

Shroud immediately sets to work at his trainer's plan, eliciting his revenge by pouring nutrients from the ground into his body. He is rewarded by a little bud shooting off of his tail, and wrapping itself around Blazie, trying desperately to trip her--and succeeding. Blazie stumbles, and realizes the past two minutes of struggle were a waste as she falls face-down once more. Reacting almost instinctively to the pain, she rears up as much as she can and releases every last bit of heat from her body, sending a huge fireball at Shroud, who screams as his body is overloaded with thermal energy and his burns worsen even further. Both end the action struggling to stand.
<Blazie: -3H, -10E, Sp. Atk -2><Shroud: -28H, -4E>
Shroud, muscles crying out for rest, tries to relax through dance, lessening the pain (at least temporarily), as he spins through the air, invigorating himself and his attack power. Blazie sighs. Always with the dirty jobs for me. What's up with that? But she still sets about wooing Shroud, using suggestive gestures and talk of a future together. Shroud, who was feeling rather attracted to this Chimchar before she tried to kill him, looks a little bit quizzical as he agrees with her and falls (not so deep) under the spell of love as he slows down with his dance, almost ethereally.
<Blazie: -0H, -3E><Shroud: -0H, -5E, Atk +2, attracted (mild)>
Blazie, taking advantage of Shroud's momentary confusion over the situation, knocks him up onto her back, scaling the hole. However, the two are distracted by trumpeteers--the war finally caught up to them, and a passing soldier on Dodrioback throws a grenade into the hole! Muttering "stupid trenchmen", the soldier speeds away before the thing explodes. And explode it does, widening and deepening the hole, and knocking Blazie and Shroud in two totally different directions. Shroud, thinking quickly, slams into Blazie (with only some hesitation) with his tail, a green aura surrounding the point of impact. As the two fly apart, some health is sucked out of Blazie and returns to Shroud, who smiles slightly, but whose smile turnes into a grimace as the pain of the burns overwhelm him temporarily. The round ends with Blazie in the hole and Shroud just outside it, peering down viciously.

-Overheat messed with Shroud's burns, bringing it to max burn damage possible.
-It's hard to woo someone you just nearly killed, so Attract barely worked.
-The war dealt the 10% damage to both Pokémon on the third action with a grenade.
-The hole is now 3 Treeckos across and 6 Chimchars deep. (Or, for you technical people (like myself), that'd be 9ft 6in deep and 5ft across).

Oh, shoot, I almost forgot about this.

Okay, Shroud. Uh, we'll have to think of a way to turn the match around. Or I'll get owned. What a nice way to end my first battle!

Let's try to keep your health up. Start off with a Sunny Day to bring the sun out. Now, if Blazie tries to attack you, use Protect. Otherwise, use Synthesis to regain your health.

If Blazie attacks again, use Protect. Otherwise take that attack boost and Rock Tomb Blazie. If you're low on energy (read: less than 50%), just Chill instead.

Round 3: Begin!

Shroud relaxes ever so slightly. Not wanting to be frivolous, he just sits and lays back, looking up at the sky. He quickly howls at it, and the sun rises and burns over the empty wasteland. Blazie gets a look on her face that reeks of overconfidence, as she powers up and aims a Flamethrower straight down to boost her up over the hole. However, it's unstable and quite erratic, and she only manages to fly up a foot and a half until she lands, quivering with the effort. Her face changes into a mask of depression, knowing she got off to a bad start. What she doesn't know is that the trench they dug has attracted the attention of the Union--err, armies, and a Voltorb is sneakily rolled over to the cliff. Shroud, acting on impulse, kicks it in, where it rolls to a stop. You can all guess the result. The action leaves with Blazie flying through the air and Shroud laughing hysterically, coming to his senses about Blazie.
<Blazie: -10H, -8E><Shroud: -0H, -5E>
Blazie yells, mostly out of pain but slightly out of adrenaline rush. Flying at Shroud, fists clenched and teeth gritted, she lunges in for the kill. What she does not expect is to collide with solid and inflexible air, tinted green from Shroud's Protect. She bounces off and rolls a few feet away from Shroud, wincing. Thankfully for her, it's in the opposite direction of the hole and she doesn't fall back in. Shroud pants from the effort as he dissipates the shield mentally, saving the moment in his "treasured memory" drawer forever. He just hopes that his trainer is enjoying watching this as much as he is.
<Blazie: -1H, -5E><Shroud: -0H, -6E>
Blazie lies back for some well-earned rest. Never a dull moment. Sigh. Shroud, finding his opening, rushes forward and slams the earth with his tail. A mound of rocks pop up and slam into Blazie, crushing her underneath their weight. Blazie yells, superlatively annoyed that her one moment of blissful rest got interrupted by that again. And because of the fact that she is now imprisoned by a tomb of rocks (apt). Shroud, feeling lucky, grimaces as the burns (always just barely forgotten before they hurt) attack his flesh once more.

Arena and Battle Notes:
-Chewy, you can't command Pokemon to do things based on the percentages. As Negrek put it, "it's like telling a boxer to perform a certain move if he thinks he will lose more than 10% of his health." Even though Shroud didn't Chill, just for the record.
-Blazie was Voltorb'd on the first action.
-Shroud's attraction was eliminated on the first action.
-Blazie took a small portion of damage for being bounced off of Shroud's Protect.
-Similarly, she got 1% energy shaved off for flying down at Shroud and not having to run at him.
-Because her chill was interrupted, Blazie restored less energy.
-New reffing layout. Cool? If not, I'll go back to the old one for next round.
-Sorry for lateness, was on vacation and forgot to post in the absence sheet.
-All the annoying lyric descriptions were because I typed this while still recovering from a massive Guitar Hero 4 high (for the record, the songs in order are: Band On the Run, Pull Me Under, Trapped Under Ice, and Today, by Wings, Dream Theater, Metallica, and The Smashing Pumpkins respectively).

Haha, thanks for that heads-up, MurrMurr.

Now let's try to stay on the safe side, Shroud. First, let's get some health with Synthesis, taking advantage of that sunny sky. But if Blazie tries to attack you, use Counter to reflect it back, unless it's a special move; then use Rock Slide to try to flinch her.

Use another Synthesis if Blazie attacks, otherwise use Toxic, followed by another Synthesis if, again, Blazie attacks, otherwise, use Giga Drain.

Round 4: Begin!

Blazie groans, but makes no immediate attempts to attack, so Shroud finds the situation OK and goes ahead with his relaxation plan. Calling out the photosensitive parts of the cells in his body, Shroud opens his mind (and body) to the sun, restoring some of the cuts and bruises (and most notably, singed areas) and healing him quite noticeably. But the cost comes in the form of mind-blowing tiredness, as Shroud collapses weakly to the ground. Blazie gets up rather feebly and tries without much heart to pull out a willowing blast of fire, but the Rock Tomb is taking its toll, and after a pathetic ember he gives up and sets about tearing at his makeshift prison with gusto.
<Blazie: -0H, -4E><Shroud: +50H, -25E>
Blazie groans. Again. Not so much out of pain or tiredness, but because she's been actually listening to this insane wacko trying to give her--her, who was perfect in every way--the orders. However, her smart side argued that this next order, at least, was sensible, so she let loose a bubble of energy just as Shroud fired off a cloud of purple, foul-smelling liquid straight at the now-protected Blazie. But Shroud is thrown off course by rocks flying straight at him, from the aforementioned tomb. They slice into him, inflicting slices wherever they strike. Shroud releases deafening cries, more from anger than anything else. Blazie smirks, glad the battle is finally going her way again.
<Blazie: -0H, -4E><Shroud: -5H, -4E>
Blazie, glad to be free of the prison she was trapped inside, doesn't hesitate as she flies at Shroud, claws bared. Shroud drops to the ground in a futile attempt to dodge, but already Blazie is there, furiously swiping. Shroud reacts with surprising ferocity as he sucks the life energy out of Blazie, who falls to the floor and gasps as the momentum of the Aerial Ace takes her right into the pit again. Shroud smirks and blows a mocking kiss at Blazie, who glares up with murder in her eyes--the last pit escapade didn't turn out very well for her. But all is not well for Shroud, because the waving and butt-shaking aggrivates the burns on his body, causing him to shriek momentarily.

-25% chance to fall into the pit for either character: Shroud rolled 37, Blazie rolled 9 (sigh)
-Because the burn damage was lowered on the first action and the damage is done on the third action (that's when Shroud was first burned), Shroud took 5% instead of 6% from burn.
-I am an idiot and forgot to mention in the last round that Shroud had activated Overgrow. But it doesn't matter, since after Synthesis he has more than 33% health.

Okay, Shroud. We're low on energy, so first use a Double Team to make four clones (Can I do that? If no, just ignore that last part.), followed by a Water Sport if Blazie uses a Fire move, or a Leech Seed if she doesn't attack. Round 5: Begin!

Both Pokemon set about their missions at almost the exact same time: Out of the pit, Shroud begins to dash around at an incredible speed (only slightly slower out of the need to not aggrivate the burns on his feet) and, vibrating quickly, seems to split into five; inside the pit, Blazie dashes up the pit in the hopes that she doesn't get creamed again. And she doesn't. One of Shroud's clones shrieks and dissipates as a rider on Tauros-back runs straight through it. Blazie finishes her climb, taking specific care to step far away from the edge as necessary to avoid another pit tumble.
<Blazie: -0H, -6E><Shroud: -0H, -4E>
Blazie rears to attack, already beginning to produce flames, so Shroud begins to produce water to shield himself from the attack. But even though the water is part of him, he just can't force it out and gets slammed by the wall of fire head-on, in addition to vaporizing all of the clones instantaneously. Screaming in pain, he flies back and lands painfully on his side. Shroud struggles in an attempt to get up, but falls backwards exhausted. He yells at the sky, cursing his terrible luck.
<Blazie: -0H, -9E><Shroud: -21H, -2E>
Blazie leaps at the stunned Shroud, moving almost too fast for the eye to follow. Shroud gets up, and begins to produce the shield necessary for protection this action. In a split second, Blazie is effortlessly repelled by a massive force emanating around Shroud and flies...right next to the pit. Blazie sighs with poorly concealed relief as Shroud grimaces--the burns were aggrivated by the fall.
