Arena: Castle Oblivion - White Room
Description:
Castle Oblivion contains a series of 'White Rooms' that change depending on the will and memory of the people inside. As such, the entire area is mutable to a certain degree. Before any Pokemon focuses on directing the energies of the place, the rooms are - you guessed it! - white with a rose motif. There are a lot of pillars, too, and random flower designs. It would probably be a good idea to keep it down: you don't want whoever is in charge of the castle to notice that you're there, eh? There might end up being a crazy bastard with cherry blossom lasers and nobody - and I do mean nobody - wants that.
Although any Pokemon is technically capable of altering the room to suit themselves, Ghost and Psychic types can overrule other Pokemon. Ghost and Dark types are also capable of recognizing the illusions of the White Rooms for what they are and can ignore the current features of the arena. Everybody else is stuck with whatever they see, however.
The arena will make sure it can support any Pokemon currently in it, however. For example, aquatic Pokemon will inexplicably float a few feet off of the ground.
I'm guessing this arena is based on a video game of which I'm not aware, but eh.

The squads are thus:

"Castle Oblivion," the referee mutters as she wanders down a corridor. "Terribly cheerful-sounding place. Not even a little bit spooky, nope. Anyway, there's supposed to be more than one of these 'white room' things around here, right? S'pose any one will do, then, just got to find one." Detouring towards the wall, she heaves open the nearest door and glances inside, only to be confronted by surskitty and Walker both staring at her.

"Oh... been waiting long, have you?" Negrek asks uncomfortably as she scoots inside and lets the door swing shut behind her, preferring to glance around at the room rather than the faces of the two trainers who are waiting with arms crossed across their chests, looking unamused. "Sorry about that. Trifle bit of difficulty finding the place. Fancy finding you right in the first place I looked, eh? So, I've got your active squads printed out here," she waves a couple slips of paper half-heartedly, "if you'd like to see them--no? Then send out your pokémon out and, uh, stuff, I guess." She waves her hands vaguely, then darts off to the side to put a row of pillars between herself and Walker as he starts for the far side of the room to take up a place opposite surskitty.

Finding a convenient pillar alongside the open space at the center of the room, Negrek leans up against it and watches. Awful decorating job, she thinks vaguely, glancing around at the delicate floral patterns repeated across the walls and, occasionally, the pillars. Drumming her fingers against the cold what-she-assumes-to-be-marble, Negrek waits for something to happen and doesn't notice the offended rose motif above her head sending a couple of thorny tendrils creeping down the side of the simulated masonry and towards her unsuspecting head.

Walker reaches the far end of the room and tosses a pokéball to the floor without hesitation, no doubt having made his pokémon selection some time ago. surskitty follows suit and two pokémon materialize on opposite ends of the field. Representing Walker's team is bliss the togepi, a rotund little pokémon who waves her arms and chirps excitedly upon being released. Hinoarashi the cyndaquil, looking across at Bliss, doesn't seem as enthused--she glances around at the strange, empty room, and suppresses a shudder. Something's a little off about this place.

Rules are dutifully announced, commands are given, and the pokémon tense in anticipation of the battle.

Hinoarashi is the first to move, flames bursting from the fire patches on her back even as she tips her snout towards the ceiling and lets out a long, keening howl. This would seem unwise, as the battlers presumably want to avoid detection while trespassing in someone else's castle. The strange room saps life from the howl, however, leaving it sounding thin and quavering. Fortunately for Hinoarashi, she doesn't notice the difference and feels a rush of confidence as she psychs herself up for battle. The sound of the howl also masks another noise that otherwise might have given her pause, however--the crackle of electricity discharging into the air around Bliss. So it is with considerable surprise that Hinoarashi finds herself engulfed in a hissing wave of electricity so soon after beginning her attack. The cyndaquil's howl is cut off with a gurgle as her muscles spasm uncontrollably, searing pain disorienting her for a moment before the initial onslaught of the thunder wave passes. The damage is done, however--though Hinoarashi lowers her snout and lays beady eyes on her opponent again, every movement is an effort as she struggles against muscles made sluggish and unresponsive by random electrical discharge.

Bliss watches her opponent twitch and squeak with satisfaction, then turns her attention to devising a plan for bringing the cyndaquil even more agony. The expression on the togepi's face while she schemes, a kind of determined pout, is almost comical, but less amusing is the way the room around her responds to her thoughts. White walls blacken and ripple like disturbed water, the flowers adorning them wilting and crumbling to blackened husks as the wave of corrupt thoughts washes over them. The nearest pillar to Bliss starts to melt, odd lumps rising beneath its now-black surface and moving fitfully around its circumference as though something inside were trying to escape. Bliss, caught up in the plotting that fuels these very apparitions, is of course unaware of them. It is not until Hinoarashi masters herself enough to start an unsteady charge, the flames on her back roaring ever higher until she is covered in a sheet of flame, that the togepi comes out of her evil little daydream. She turns and starts to flee, but even paralyzed, Hinoarashi is able to close the distance between herself and the togepi with ease, hurling herself at Bliss and bowling the togepi over.

Bliss yells in anger and pain as the fire raging around Hinoarashi sears into her skin, leaving her eggshell as black and marred as the walls around her. Hinoarashi stumbles to a halt a few paces behind the toppled togepi, her flames shrinking back to normal size as she catches her breath. To her horror, however, that breath catches in her throat as her diaphragm stutters and twitches, as do her limbs. Paralysis is back with a vengeance, and it is all that Hinoarashi can do to remain standing as her muscles alternately lock up and spasm uncontrollably.

Behind the cyndaquil, Bliss manages to pick herself up off the floor. Smiling at the sight of her opponent left shuddering and helpless, the togepi prepares her revenge. Her cheeks bulge momentarily before she spews a swirling jet of water at Hinoarashi. The cyndaquil is picked up and spun around, left dizzy and soaked in a small puddle on the floor as the water pulse comes to an end. The flames on her back hiss and sputter while Hinoarashi shakes the attack off as best she can and concentrates on mustering her mutionus limbs again. Meanwhile, it is only now, with a lull in the action, that Bliss truly turns her attention away from Hinoarashi and notices the unwitting redecoration she's wrought. Eyes widening in surprise, she shrinks back, moving towards what used to be Hinoarashi's side of the arena, which is still unblemished.

Oh well, it doesn't matter, seeing as I know for certain you learn the moves I want you to be using.

Well, that Water Pulse seemed to work well enough, didn't it Bliss? No. The main point of it was to try to confuse Hinorashi while doing a lot of damage. So let's keep at it until she is confused, shall we? When it's clear that she's confused, switch over to AncientPower.

Oh, and if at any point Hinorashi uses Protect, just chill.

Bliss doesn't let Hinoarashi have any chance to recover. Even as the cyndaquil turns back to face the togepi, little paws balled into fists, she finds Bliss's cheeks bulging with water and has only a second to groan inwardly before she is bowled over by another swirling blast of water. The cyndaquil is sent spinning across the floor, slipping and falling in the puddle left over from the previous water pulse attack and, in general, looking miserable as she lies where she lands for a moment, waiting for the room to stop spinning.

Unfortunately for Hinoarashi, reality doesn't seem inclinded to settle back into normalcy no matter how long she lies and stares at the blackened ceiling. Shivering, she gets unsteadily back to her feet, trying to puzzle out her trainer's command. Something about... safeguard? But that can't be right; Hinoarashi's never heard of that attack before in her life. Facade is a more familiar name--yes, the cyndaquil feels she can pull that off. Her paralysis seems to have retreated in response to the soaking, so the cyndaquil is free to run her smug little opponent down.

Bliss, watching dutifully for any sign of confusion, is pleased to see that Hinoarashi fails to make good on this opportunity and instead plows headfirst into the semimelted pillar. In response to the cyndaquil's fuzzy mental state, the faux-stone construct starts to blur around the edges, but neither pokémon appreciates this subtle change, Hinoarashi rubbing her forehead in a puzzled daze and Bliss preparing her next attack.

Tipping her head back--which in fact means inclining her entire body--Bliss closes her eyes and lets out a low, prolonged hum. The sound reverberates through the air, filling it with a strange energy as the togepi summons up spirits from long ago. The white room, ever accomodating, responds by spitting several rocks from the floor, each surrounded by an aura of blue and orange flame. The animated boulders swarm around Hinoarashi, slamming into her small form before sinking back into the amorphous floor, leaving behind no trace of their passing.

Hinoarashi shakily gets back to her feet, sure that she's hallucinating. Not only did Bliss turn into a rather painfully solid pillar just a minute ago, but then she was knocked down by a bunch of floating rocks that were on fire! There's no sign of the boulders now, however, the room having swallowed them up as easily as it produced them, and the muddled cyndaquil is left only more perplexed than before. Focusing blurry eyes on Bliss, she charges wildly, eager to let out her anger with a facade attack. Her revenge is thwarted again by her confusion, however; slipping, Hinoarashi falls flat on her face, banging her snout hard against the floor.

Seeing no reason to abandon such a successful tactic, Bliss summons up another ancientpower attack, once more calling rocks up from beneath the floor to torment her foe. Hinoarashi cowers, putting her paws over her face as the blazing boulders come crashing down, addled and paralyzed and definitely hurting as Bliss keeps up the offensive. The pain helps to clear her head, though, and when the rocks vanish once more Hinoarashi is able to focus her attention on Bliss. She recognizes the togepi as the source of her confusion, not to mention her pain, and an angry hiss escapes the fire-type as she pushes aside all thought of her uncertain muscles and rushes straight at Bliss.

After having her opponent immobilized for most of the match, Bliss is too stunned to get out of the way as Hinoarashi charges straight at her. The cyndaquil tackles Bliss to the ground, pummeling her with tiny fists, kicking, and biting as she channels all her pain and frustration into one spectacular attack. Bliss squeals and squirms, trying to defend herself with her stubby arms, with little success. Mad with rage, Hinoarashi keeps hammering away until she is too exhausted to continue, at which point she retreats a short distance, glaring at Bliss and trying to catch her breath. Whimpering, the togepi slowly pulls herself back to her feet, trembling nearly as much as Hinoarashi as she stands. The cyndaquil is still clearly in worse condition, but Bliss is really feeling her new bruises.

Taking a deep breath, Bliss forces herself to calm down. Yes, the facade attack was powerful, but the best way to ensure that she won't get hurt further is to knock Hinoarashi out quickly. Self-preservation lends Bliss new resolve, not to mention the fact that Hinoarashi, though still unsteady on her feet, is turning her snout back in the togepi's direction. Water wells up from unseen stores within the egg pokémon's body, causing her cheeks to bulge before she spits it out in a coiling blast that, as usual, picks Hinoarashi up and sends her spinning through the air. The fire-type lands with a squeak and a splash in the shallow puddle that's formed as a result of the togepi's repeated attacks. Upon coming to rest, the dizzy cyndaquil finds herself abruptly overcome by a surge of rage. It isn't fair! Bliss is using sneaky underhanded tricks instead of fighting straight and fair. And she's making Hinoarashi look like a fool in the process! Gritting her teeth, the cyndaquil hauls herself to her feet, ignoring the persistent stinging sensation caused by contact with water. The fire patches on her back, temporarily extinguished by the water pulse, hiss with steam a moment before roaring to life, flaring higher than ever. The cyndaquil lets out a howl, this one in fact much more impressive than her opening attack. Around her, the room is warped by intense emotion, swirls of red and orange creeping through the black slick covering most of them and the pillars actually rippling as though seen through a heat haze.

Dropping to all fours, Hinoarashi charges. Her sight still isn't great, the room spinning around her as a result of confusion, but the cyndaquil is beyond caring. By some miracle she actually reaches her target, lunging at bliss with more fury than she's displayed all battle. Cracks spread across Bliss' eggshell as the cyndaquil drives home powerful kicks and punches, stubby claws gouging at the togepi's face and arms. The rotund pokémon rolls back and forth, doing everything she can think of to dislodge the maddened cyndaquil, but it is no good. In desperation, she fills her cheeks with another charge of water and spits a point-blank water pulse at Hinoarashi. The cyndaquil is blasted away, still flailing and snarling, coming to rest on her back a couple of feet from Bliss. The togepi lies where she is for a moment, simply grateful that the awful attack is over and reluctant to move as the pain of her wounds hits her all at once. For her part, Hinoarashi is still fighting where she's fallen, punching the air and hissing in fury. Around her, the floor bubbles and blackens like hot tar.

The cyndaquil's muscles aren't being very cooperative at the moment, however, paralysis coming back to haunt her. Despite her best efforts, she fails to rise, her limbs stiffening and even her breath catching now and then in sporadic hiccups as her diaphragm spasms. The cyndaquil stops struggling for a moment, still hissing and spitting periodically although her breathing becomes more deep and regular. Her eyes are wild and wide open, staring at the ceiling in a frozen aspect of vacant madness.

Bliss gathers more water and approaches Hinoarashi with caution, trying not to pay attention to the cyndaquil's creepy expression. Not about to be sporting with the possibility of another encounter with a rabid cyndaquil still open, Bliss attacks Hinoarashi despite the fact that the cyndaquil doesn't look able to rise. Hinaoarashi splutters and coughs as the water pulse gets into her open mouth, even as she is sent skidding backwards. Though the usual rhythmic spinning of the water pulse is as disorienting as ever, Hinaoarashi clings desperately to her pain and her anger, two things that she knows for sure are real, and as the attack ends, she opens her eyes. Bliss' heart sinks as he sees them, for they are clear and focused, no longer vague and dazed-looking. Worse still, the cyndaquil, apparently completely in control of her body once more, rises carefully, a grim, determined expression on her face.

Bliss wavers a moment, then turns to flee--but Hinoarashi attacks her from behind, bearing her to the floor in another infuriated facade attack. It's not as powerful as the last one, but Bliss is hardly able to appreciate that fact and she struggles and howls beneath another savage beating.

As before, Bliss unloads a water pulse straight into Hinoarashi's face, making the cyndaquil fall back, hissing and snarling and flailing at the water. Bliss slips away as discreetly as she can while the cyndaquil continues to froth and flail, locked once again in the throes of dizzy rage. Though the fire-type's slightly unfocused eyes do manage to land on Bliss, getting her body to follow them is less successful, and all attempts at pursuit end only in falling down.

Now at a safe distance from her opponent, Bliss spits another water pulse at Hinoarashi, though in her rattled state she isn't at her most accurate and the water pulse only grazes Hinoarashi's side, spinning her around though the majority of the attack's power is uselessly expended. The shock of cold water makes Hinoarashi pause for a moment in her wild flailing, as though contemplating. Naturally, this development makes Bliss nervous, and she is far from reassured by the amber aura that springs up around the cyndaquil's body as she lies still, gathering her strength. Flipping herself back onto her feet, the cyndaquil makes a daring charge at her opponent, wisps of glowing energy orbiting her body as she goes. Although Bliss doesn't recognize the attack as the manifestation of the cyndaquil's pain and frustration, she is fairly certain that it's going to hurt and braces herself with a grimace. Sure enough, when Hinoarashi tackles her in an explosion of searing fighting energy, Bliss is forced to bite back a yell.

Another water pulse blasts Hinoarashi away from bliss, sending her skidding back across the seething floor. Hinoarashi takes a moment to think her next command through, not that it's different than any of the others she's used this round, as complete focus is necessary if she wants to pull it off correctly. The floor appears to tilt beneath her feet as she stares at Bliss, and the slow shifting of the walls and ceiling hardly help her overcome confusion, but nevertheless the cyndaquil perseveres and takes off again, the same brown-orange haze surrounding her as she hurtles towards Bliss. After the powerful blow that follows, the togepi isn't feeling terribly chipper, but compared to her opponent, who is struggling just to stand, she appears to be doing quite well.

Pausing for a moment to catch her breath and try to regain control of her spasming muscles, Hinoarashi is struck by a sudden sense of dread. In this condition, she doesn't know whether she'll be able to live through another water pulse--and lo and behold, what is it that Bliss is preparing, her cheeks bulging with water? Hinoarashi tenses, tries to force her unreliable muscles into motion--but it is too late. A hissing blast of water catches the cyndaquil full in the face, tipping her onto her back and pushing her away across the slick floor. When she comes to rest, dripping and twitching now and again, she shows no sign of rising. After waiting a couple of seconds to see whether anything changes, Negrek declares her unable to battle, and surskitty recalls her with a a grimace. It's all down to what she's got waiting to take the cyndaquil's place, now. Bliss grins broadly as the cyndaquil disappears in a flash of red light; bruised though she is, she feels immensely accomplished to have defeated the vicious little fire-type--her first victory, in fact!
