Let's go conquer Kanto with a Butterfree!
...Well, of course I'll have HM slaves too. And I guess I'll count the number of white-outs I get for your possible amusement?
Butterfly is too long.
Stereotypical default name for the win!
Let's sum up the entire plot up to Oak's Parcel in six screenshots!
(I choose Squirtle so I don't have to catch another Pokemon for surf/waterfall. Also a bonus is that RED gets Bulbasaur, which is weak to Confusion.)
I'm going to catch my Caterpie in Viridian Forest, because on Route 2 there's only a 5% encounter rate, but in the forest there's a 40% encounter rate. So...
Here's Dragonfly!
[hide=grinding]
COMPOUNDEYES, finally!
(do you know how many times I missed with tackle during grinding this isn't funny rng)
I think we're ready for the RED battle on route 22.
<PKMN Trainer RED wants to battle!>
Two confusions. It just used Sand-Attack, and who cares about that when we have COMPOUNDEYES?
OHKO, because super-effective.
Onto Viridian Forest now.
The first non-RED trainer battle...
...went pretty much how you'd expect. Two confusions, two dead bugs. All the other battles went pretty much the same way, and the only thing of note was this:
<And... Dragonfly learned POISONPOWDER!>
Out of the forest. Yay. Now to grind for Brock.
His Geodude won't be a problem, as it doesn't know any rock type moves. His Onix, though... *shudder*
But I have a plan. Kind of.
Grinding strategy:
Spam confusion on wild Pokemon until it runs out of PP.
Repeat until satisfied.[/hide]
This is part of my plan for Brock. I'd like to have deleted Tackle and Harden for some of the other powders, but I don't want Confusion as my only damaging move, badass as it is.
We're ready.
Your rock-hard grit and determination will be crushed by the sheer force of Dragonfly!
<Leader BROCK would like to battle!>
<Leader BROCK sent out GEODUDE!>
The Geodude knows only Tackle and Defence Curl. In other words?
It's perfect set-up bait. Use Harden 6 times so Rock Tomb, if it hits, won't deal as much damage. I'm not taking risks.
Two confusions. Easy. Now for the Onix.
This may or may not be a problem, depending on whether the RNG cooperates.
Sleep Powder always hits because of COMPOUNDEYESPOWER, so I used that. The Onix stays asleep for two confusions, and then it woke up.
And used
Rock Tomb! Oh, no!
...Yeah, that really didn't do too much. But if I hadn't Hardened up on the Geodude, it might have done a lot more.
Rock Tomb lowered my speed, so it went before me and used Tackle. Which only did a little, because of the Hardens. Another Confusion takes it out.
One eighth of the way toworld Kanto domination!
Useless but sellable TM get!
Running Shoes get!
Next time: Mt. Moon!
