Dominic comes down off his power attack barrage to a feeling of vague confusion. He's sure got a lot of commands to choose from this round--well, it's not really so bad, he thinks. He's pretty sure he knows what to use when, anyway. While the mudkip mulls over what he's supposed to be doing, Nenya prepares her first attack, ears abuzz as she gathers electrical charge. Dominic's mental dialogue is interrupted as a thunderwave zaps him in the side, throwing him even deeper into confusion and disoriented panic as his muscles alternately seize and freeze. Ultimately, they lock up entirely, leaving Dominic trapped in an awkward position and too befuddled to even think about refreshing.

Nenya stares at Dominic; when the mudkip fails to move so much as an inch for several seconds, she decides he must still be paralyzed and gathers electricity for a more direct kind of attack. This time, instead of a concentrated stream of charge, the dratini releases a crazy tangle of thin bolts that spread out in all directions, branching and colliding with one another as they go. The shock wave easily strikes Dominic, and he lets out a strangled gurgle of pain as the electricity rips through his tired body. After it passes, though, he finds that he is able to move a bit again, and in the absence of abject terror remembers his command. A familiar wave of soothing energy sweeps throughout his body, loosening locked muscles and leaving Dominic refreshed--if tired--in its wake.

Nenya rolls her end and charges up for another thunder wave. For what feels like about a hundredth time to both pokémon, Dominic waits until the initial spasming caused by the attack dies down, then wipes out the paralysis out with another refresh. The end of the round finds the two pokémon more or less as they were at the beginning--albeit a little more tired and battered by the hail.

Time for massive destruction: shock wave until you get hit, and then thunderbolt, but if you get to the last action without using thunderbolt, use draco meteor.

Electricity courses the length of Nenya's body, another attack in the making. This time, though, Dominic is free to give her a bit of her own medicine in return--as much as he can manage given his fatigue, anyway. The mudkip grimaces in concentration, forcing a thin membrane of energy out over his skin. He only barely manages to get the mirror coat in place before the shock wave sizzles his way. The scraggly fingers of electricity slam into the mudkip, leaving him twitching and in pain as the coating over his body flashes yellow, gathering energy. A bolt of concentrated power shoots from the mudkip's mirror coat and engulfs Nenya in its light, dealing her twice as much hurt as Dominic had to endure.

The dratini writhes and snorts for a couple of moments, then gets ahold of herself--that little mudfish is going down. Dominic is already braced again, sweat making his naturally damp skin even slicker as he struggles just to keep himself from passing out. Nenya unleashes another lightning strike--but this one is not diffuse and chaotic like the shock wave, but instead focused into a single large, powerful blast of energy. Dominic lets out a choked squeal as the thunderbolt strikes him, muscles spasming and smoke rising from his body as the attack does its awful work. His mirror coat is indifferent to his pain, though; as ever, it absorbs the excess energy from the attack, adds some of Dominic's own, then hurls a powerful retort Nenya's way--a truly spectacular beam of energy that engulfs the dratini nose to tail-tip. When it burns itself out, it leaves Nenya lying on a now-clear patch of ground, her scales torn and dirty and her eyes closed.

Dominic smiles shakily, panting heavily--then his eyes close, too, and he slumps over in a deep faint, the mirror coat having sucked dry the last of his energy reserves.

Yes! Good going Dominic, you went out with a bang!

And now, Thea the Vulpix, I choose you! (...that wasn't corny sounding at all...)

Ok, haven't done much with the battle field we're in, so let's get wild. Start with a sunny day attack to heat things up a little. Next use Heat Wave to catch all the trees on Vilya's side of the field on fire! Then use Iron Tail and knock Vilya into the inferno! That should do for now.

The two comatose pokémon are returned to their pokéballs, and for a few seconds the battefield stands empty while the trainers decide who to send out Next. Aethelstan decides to bring Thea, his vulpix, into the fight, and tosses a new pokéball onto the field. The red-orange fox pokémon that takes shape from it looks calmly around at the arena, no more than the twitching of her tails giving any hint of her nerves. sreservoir counters with Vilya the ralts, who looks considerably more interested in the sorry state of the field. The little psychic-type gapes at the huge holes carved into the dirt by Nenya's draco meteors, and then, as a hailstone bounces off her green cap, up at the cloudy sky overhead.

Thea's interested in the sky, too, but not because she's intent on observing the hail; taking in a deep breath, the vulpix breathes out a surprisingly small spark. The glowing seed of fire energy drifts up into the air, picking up speed as it goes. Soon it is hurtling up into the lower atmosphere, until it reaches the layer of clouds called up by Dominic's hail attack. The core of the sunny day attack explodes, flinging a wave of fire energy in all directions and ripping the clouds apart. Within seconds, the hail has stopped and the sun is beaming down out of a clear sky.

The weather isn't fated to stay pleasant for long, though. Hardly have the hailstones begun to melt than Vilya has begun a slow, intricate dance, sweeping and twirling back and forth on her side of the arena. Thea watches with mild bemusement, not quite sure what the ralts is up to until the clouds that she had just banished start to come creeping back in. Darkness spreads across the arena as clouds roll in overhead with unnatural speed, and Thea hisses, thinking she has an idea of what's coming next.

And, indeed, a few raindrops splatter the arena, followed by several more, and soon a steady drizzle is falling, promptly soaking Thea, her opponent, and the humans around the edge of the field. Thea irritably shakes water from her fur, then fixes a glare on her opponent. An even deeper breath than before, and then she blows out a searing blast of superheated air. The heat wave sweeps across the arena with a hiss of raindrops flashing into steam. It thoroughly dries Vilya out, not to mention burns something fierce. The rain quickly cools the ralts off again, though, and Vilya returns Thea's glare.

The ralts' eyes light up an eerie blue as she calls on psychic energy, her hands moving in slow, intricate patterns before her face. Try as she might, Thea finds she can't pull her eyes away from Vilya. And worse, she's starting to feel rather... tired...

Thea's legs give out and the vulpix flops to the ground, sound asleep in seconds. Vilya lowers her hands and closes her eyes, concentrating as she reaches out with her mind. Slipping a tendril of psychic energy inside the slumbering vulpix's skull, Vilya quickly filters through the neural patterns of Thea's brain until she finds those that look similar to the ones in her own brain that allowed her to perform her attacks earlier this round. Blocking the pathways for these attacks' analogues in Thea's brain, Vilya then retreats, doing her best not to disturb the vulpix's slumber.

Okay, now, since you're technically slower and you can learn trick room, and Thea is asleep, it's time for some temporal fun.
Calm Mind once, then Trick Room, then, if Thea is still asleep, and Calm Mind. If at any point Thea wakes up, Hypnosis her again and shift the moves to the next action.

Who ever said a good sleep was a bad thing? Sleep Talk her to death. If you ever wake up, use Imprison on her (one move that apparently wasn't imprisoned), and hope that Hypnosis doesn't work. We can kill those two moves as well, and hopefully prevent sleep for a while.

Vilya takes up a meditative pose, her hands folded in front of her and her eyes closed as she retreats into the confines of her own mind, tapping into her hidden skills. The ralts is so deep in concentration that she doesn't notice Thea whimper and twitch in her sleep, claws scrabbling at the moist earth as though she is running in her dream. As the vulpix continues to whine and whimper, her paws catch hold and she pulls herself to her feet, eyes still closed but snout pointed straight at Vilya. Intense flame roars up from the depths of the vulpix's flame sac, and her jaws stretch wide to permit a huge fireball that shoots straight into the ralts, detonating with a roar of flame.

The ralts is caught completely off-guard, her concentration shattered as the world around her explodes in flame. The force of the blast, which stretches fiery arms out in five directions, slams her to the muddy earth in a steaming heap. The rain does a bit to dampen the attack's fury, but Vilya is still seared and, moreover, unnerved--it takes all of her self-control to slip back into a trance and try to finish up her calm mind.

Thea remains standing, though she sways and rocks uncertainly, her legs threatening to buckle beneath her. She sneezes as rain drops run into her nostrils, then shakes her head slowly, eyelids fluttering. Thea's eyes focus on Vilya, still metitating in the mud, and the fog of sleep clears from the vulpix's mind. Now she remembers what's going on here--and that ralts is going to pay for putting her to sleep!

Thea fans out her tails, the gem on her forehead sparking with energy as she calls on her mystical powers and casts a spell of binding over her opponent. Though less invasive than Vilya's imprison, the attack has the same effect--walling out of the ralts' mind all the attacks that the vulpix has recently conjured up.

An itching sensation invades the inner sanctums of Vilya's mind, and the ralts opens her eyes, prodding at her temples in a bemused way. The ralts gasps as she looks across at Thea--awake already? A grim frown settles on the ralts' face, and she tries to push the vulpix into slumber again. This time, though Thea easily recognizes the hypnosis attack for what it is. The vupix averts her face and fiercely commands herself to stay awake, not to look into the ralts' glowing eyes.

At last Vilya gives up, crossly channeling her energies towards altering the very laws that bind the world around her. A dense network of psychic force sweeps away from her skull and encircles the entire arena. To Thea, it looks as though the ralts cloaks herself in a fine mesh of glowing wires, which expands in all directions until it eventually swallows even the vulpix up in its grip. Thea shudders as the leading edge of the trick room passes over her, then winces and closes her eyes as a terrible pressure seems to force itself down on her from all sides, leaving her barely able to breathe, much less move. Fortunately, she has a more or less free action to get used to the trick room's effects; she certainly can't sleep talk now, and the ralts is already well and truly imprisoned.

I'm confused. If Taunt works, and Sleep Talk is used, does that mean only attacking moves will come up, Sleep talk can't be used at all, or both types of moves will come up but only the attacking ones will work.

Ok, new strategy. I don't know if this works, but what the hey. Chill when you're asleep, Fire Blast if you wake up.

With the trick room on her side, Vilya is able to act before Thea can guess what she's up to. The ralts' eyes glow as she once more pummels the vulpix with hypnotic waves. The vulpix closes her eyes and averts her face, struggling to reign in a yawn that threatens to split her jaws; fire rages deep in her chest as she focuses on her next attack, turning her mind away from Vilya's hypnosis and towards her own pursuits. It's a close thing--the vulpix's eyelids feel heavy and she sways a bit where she stands, resisting the urge to slump to the ground--but she manages to overcome the hypnosis. When she turns back towards Vilya and opens her mouth, it is not in a yawn but to release a grapefruit-sized ball of fire.

Vilya raises her hands in a futile attempt to shield herself from the fire blast, but the rain does far more to mitigate the power of the attack as it explodes against her, knocking her to the mud with a roar and an intense wave of heat. Lying on the steaming, mucky ground, Vilya is hardly in much position to be making fun of her opponent, but she has to try anyway. Getting back to her feet, the ralts brushes a bit of mud from her diaphonous body and enjoys the feel of the rain against her scorched skin. Casting about for an angle on her opponent, Vilya decides to attack Thea's psychic abilities--or lack thereof, really. Sure, humans may be dense enough to consider vulpix magical creatures, but any real psychic can tell the signs of a dabbler or a novice, a creature with a weak mind who would never reach the level of a true master of the psyche--like, say, Vilya herself.

Thea growls, her fur bristling as the ralts goes on in a maddeningly calm tone, dispassionately arguing the inferiority of vulpix in general and Thea in particular. What arrogance! As a red haze clouds her vision, Thea draws a truly prodigious draught of flame up from her fire sac and fires off a fire blast noticeably larger than the one that came before. Vilya is cut off mid-sentence as the might attack sails across the arena and unfurls into a huge arcane symbol before knocking her off her feet in a blast of fire.

At this point, the rain is starting to slacken, and Vilya whimpers a bit as she slowly rises to a kneeling position. Her body is charred black and spattered with mud, and the very act of moving makes her sting all over. She fires off a desperate hypnosis, trying to calm Thea with soothing pulses of psychic energy. The vulpix is even less susceptible to the ralts' hypnosis than before, though, the rage gripping her mind helping her shake off momentary drowsiness and spit another fire blast at her opponent. By the time Vilya has manaed to drag herself back upright, smoking and wincing with each motion, the rain has petered off entirely, leaving the sky coated by gloomy clouds and the arena a sea of mud.

Vilya gives an unimpressed snort and a flick of her tails as she listens to her orders. That little mushroom-headed idiot insulted her, and she's just supposed to stand there and sunny day like nothing's wrong? While Vilya is cooking up a noxious brew of toxins in her gut, the vulpix is fuming, torn between following orders and going with her gut--which at the moment is telling her to rip into Vilya with everything she's got. Thea is so preoccupied that she almost doesn't notice what Vilya's up to until it's too late. The ralts hacks a couple of times, bringing up the soupy toxic she's prepared, then spits a gout of it at Thea. The vulpix's eyes widen and she hasitly leaps to the side, letting the toxic splash uselessly into the mud next to her.

All right, that decides it. There's no way Thea's just going to stand around looking pretty while Vilya tries to barf on her. Without a clear command to go on, the vulpix simply claws and bites at her opponent, rage making her reckless and sloppy in her attacks. Vilya falls back, away from the furious vulpix, and gathers electrical energy, her red horn sparking with built-up charge. As Thea makes as if to pursue, the ralts brings her up short by blasting her with a quick jolt of electricity. Thea slips and falls in the mud as her muscles lock up unexpectedly, and Vilya is given a little breathing room while the vulpix struggles to rise.

Meanwhile, the trick room that the ralts had constructed earlier flickers and shudders, the psychic energy holding back the normal laws of physics fraying at the edges as the implacable power of reality wears on it. At last it unravels entirely, the strange feelings permeating the arena evaporating in a matter of moments. Thea is driven back into the mud as the full weight of her paralysis slams down on her, the condition no longer alleviated by the trick room's weirding effects.

Vilya clears her throat and then begans to sing, voice quiet and wavering at first but growing in volume and steadiness as the psychic type gains confidence. It is a beautiful melody, gentle and melodic, and despite her anger, Thea can't help but pause her struggles to listen. As the ralts' singing washes up against her ears, the vulpix feels at peace, her fury ebbing away as the song seems to infiltrate her mind, washing away all thoughts but those of contentment. The vulpix's eyelids flutter as she makes one last, instinctive attempt to resist the song's power, but it is too late: she slides inexorably into a deep sleep as the last bars of Vilya's song float out across the arena.
