Dear Filip

Thank you for your email.

I am very pleased to inform you that you have been made an offer to read Natural Sciences at Trinity in October 2010 - many congratulations! The offer is conditional on the following grades:

IB: 41 points in total with 7 in Biology, 7 in Chemistry and 7 in Mathematics

A letter confirming this has been posted to you and the decision should also shortly appear on UCAS Track.

Good luck with your examinations.

SEVEN IN MATHS FUCK
AHHH

eta: that's Trinity College, Cambridge

Work hard, and good luck (even though I don't know you, I'm just a nice person :P)!

But 7 + 7 + 7 = 41 since when? o_O

No, it's asking for 7s specifically in those subjects. The other points would come from his other subjects.

pfft you'll be able to do this no sweat

congratulations~ =D

Please explain to those of us who aren't wise in the ways of foreign grading systems, how hard to get is a 7?

Considering the highest mark you can get is 45 points, I'd imagine it would be pretty damn hard :V

They have IB here in the states, you know. I've never been in an IB program myself because my schools never offered them, but I've heard from friends that 7s are really, really hard to get. Highest possible grade and all that, and they've all said that IB work was pretty tough, so...

Also, this!

Anyway! Congrats, opal. You can do it. :3

Right, quick run-down.

IB diploma mark consists of a possible 6 * 7 points (six subjects, maximum grade of seven each) plus three bonus points (which are obtained from theory of knowledge [high school epistemology!] and the extended essay [choose topic, write 4000 word paper on it]). Each student takes three or four higher level subjects and three or two standard level subjects.

All three subjects they want sevens in I have at higher level (roughly equivalent to an A-level; 7 is an A* at A-level). So in other words it is really fucking hard. IB subjects tend to be way beyond any US classes, with the possible exception of some AP classes. Biology I can manage easily enough, since I get 90%+ on tests with one nights' revision; the other two will be harder. It is a good thing I have four months before the exams. (on the other hand, I tell myself I got a Cambridge offer with the bare minimum of revision necessary, so surely meeting that offer won't be a problem if I actually work).

Oh, and to whoever asked, the other twenty points I will have to get from my other three subjects (german, english, and geography) plus the three bonus points I mentioned earlier.

ps. if there is anyone good at organic chemistry here I reserve the right to bombard you with questions in the following months

I did uni level organic chemistry. Go.

But my specialism is chemical engineering and such.

Organic chemistry is one of the easiest chem subjects I find, although it requires a lot of rote memorisation.

Congraaaatuuuuuulaaations!! :DDD

Work so, so hard. Work your socks off. Because it'll be totally worth it.
