The Wind Kingdom of Ventureni is a placid place, held up in the sky by strong gales and magic. The palace stands strong in the background of this arena, which takes place in the middle of the main city’s town square. To your left you would see a spaceport, reflecting the pseudo-futuristic setting despite castles and magic and other medieval things. Battles are common in this square for the denizens of the kingdom, for fun and for profit, but there’s a distinct difference between them and you. They can use their magic to fly should they fall off a platform, and you can’t. The king, delighted to see visitors so eager to try the systems they have set up, has generously allowed you to “borrow” one of his mages to referee the battle and prevent the battlers from falling to their deaths should they be knocked off the set of platforms that make up the arena.

The arena itself, despite being made of several 4x4 floating platforms, is shaped like that of a normal, on-the-ground area for battling. Because they’re rather thin platforms, and way up in the air to boot, attacks that have reliance on the ground, such as Earthquake or Dig, will have no effect, and will in fact make the platforms crumble under the attacking Pokemon’s feet. If a platform is destroyed by the effects of another attack, it is gone for the duration of the battle, thus making it harder for the battlers to stay aloft.

There is a 10% chance that a Pokemon may look down over the edge of the arena and be struck with a sense of vertigo, thus rendering them unable to attack for the remainder of the round. This of course, has no effect on Flying-types.
There’s a 5% chance that a Pokemon will trip off the edge of a platform and take a fall, causing 5% untyped damage from the magic striking them and bringing them back up to the platform.
Flying-types like to gather in the square, so there’s a 5% chance that a stray attack will hit a Pidgey or Taillow or something and spur it to attack, causing 3% Flying damage.

As a bright sun glows through the surrounding clouds, light bathes the kingdom. More importantly, it bathes four figures: one, looking as if she had just arrived from a disco, shook her red hair sleepily, while another, fairer-headed girl adjusts the bow on the back of her head. The third is the very monarch of the kingdom, accompanied by one of his trusted mages. They arrive at the town square, Full Metal Cookies and Zora of Termina taking opposite sides, and the mage pulls out a pair of cloud-print triangular flags...

Only to be flattened under the weight of a falling young man; Blastoise immediately jumps up, dismissing his League-issued Drifblim, and dusts himself off. He helps the mage up, making an insincere apology, and quickly launches into a tirade of legal jargon directed at the mage and king. Snatches of the conversation float out to Zora and FMC; "...must be pre4sided over by a sanctioned referee.' and '...non-regulation flags as well!' among the overheard fragments.

The king apologizes, and assures the League referee that no offense was meant; the mage is rather huffy until she's allowed to do her mage-duties and hold Blastoise's flags.

Zora and FMC, looking at each other with exasperated smiles, release their chose battlers; Cookies' choice is a Sneasel wearing a ski mask and a hopefully-fake cigarette, while Zora releases an odd, flame-winged cat that Blastoise immediately takes several pictures of and looks up on the internet. Both battlers issue commands, and the mage waves the referee's blue-and-white checked flags.

Notes: Brooding and glaring at his opponent's flames.

Spy adjusts his balaclava slightly and gets right to work, a haze of smoky black energy seemingly eating away at him, hiding him in shadows and making him invisible. He snickers to himself and readjusts his balaclava.

Chimani blinks, her fur bristling slightly and her flames flaring. Where'd the weasel go? He was just there... Hmm. At least she has an attack to distract herself with. She stretches out alluringly, tossing her head and flicking her tail. This was degrading...

...but Spy certainly doesn't think so! Wow, who ever thought a Fire-type could be so... sexy? He grins widely, forgetting his invisibleness, and launches into an ancient dance, scraping his claws together and making clanging sounds. He finishes, dark chest heaving, and looks for his love's reaction.

Chimani squints, hoping to find her opponent somehow... But no, nothing. She had gotten a pretty good idea from the scrapes and clangs issuing from the general area for Arceus-knows-what reason, but she honestly couldn't find him. Determined to at least try, the Kitora spews forth a horizontal column of fire that almost grazes the Sneasel, who nimbly jumps away in disbelief. His lovely wouldn't attack him; it must have been a scary bug or something. Yeah, that was it. He steps away from the very edge of the platform, almost falling, and launches into another Swords Dance, twisting and hopping wildly. He comes away pumped, and hoping that he's pleased his wife-to-be. Giggety.

The flaming furry fighter in question is puzzling over her command... How was she meant to Glare if she couldn't see her target? Might as well give it a shot, though. She blinks, and her eyes glow purple-red as Chimani opens them. Her line of sight, however, lands entirely on a small passing child who promptly begins crying and wetting himself. Poor kid.

Spy looks over his shoulder, wondering who his pending-approval spouse was ogling. That human child? That was... strange. Without even noticing, he fades back into view.

Spy would twirl his mustache if he had one. His trainer wants him to impress his sweet! Zis was going perfectly. He focuses on ze amazing amazingness of his belle and zat of his trainer for giving zis love a chance; a chaste white aura coats him. He takes a step forward... only to be distracted by ze absolute perfect beauty of his opponent/wifey. He's drooling, though it is hard to tell behind his full-face mask.

Chimani frowns, thinking. Protect against what exactly? That glowy white aura-thing? Okay, then, trainer's orders. A bubble of almost-clear green energy fizzles into place. A minute or two passes, in which Chimani flicks her tail boredly and Spy obsesses over ze flicking of his lover's tail. The Protect fizzles away eventually, leaving Spy still enraptured and the Kitora annoyed.

Spy blinks suddenly, wondering what happened. He was going to impress his beloved and then... he got distracted. The Sneasel sighs ashamedly, and tries again. The white miasma of good feelings, slightly less powerful from the previous failure, springs back to life. Spy bounds forward at high speeds, crashing towards his opponent and eventually into her; this sends both to the floor of the sky-arena. He at first has his claws extended, but in a bout of heartsick puppylove rolls zem away from Chimani. She's still a bit hurt however, and throws a how could you? look at Spy, who looks shocked at her lack of impressed... ness... ocity.

Chimani fluffs out her wings and licks her fur back into place, puzzling all the while. She;s supposed to stop the Hail, but there isn't any. Her commands this round are really, really frustrating. In any case, Sunny Day is what her trainer told her and that's what she'll do. The flames licking about on Chimani's wings and tail flare up, and an orange-yellow glow coats her. The sun, already fairly strong this high up, glows even more, sending searingly-hot rays and causing the ref to don sunglasses and the mage to cast a sunblock spell.

Spy, lovestruck still, squints hard in ze uncomfortable warmth, intent on glimpsing his future lover. He again forgets his orders while ze Kitora stares at him with an ironic icy gaze. You know, he thinks, a claw to his chin, she hasn't been very nice. She is still ze most amazing creature on ze planet, but... wait, what was he thinking again?

The not-very-nice Kitora in question is again focusing on disentangling her orders; was Spy chilling? It didn't seem so, he's just drooling over her metaphorically (and possibly literally, she can't tell). Hmm. Well, it all amounts to the same thing anyway, so she kickstarts the chemical reaction within that allowed her to spew flames. Chimani foxtrots her way over to Spy, looks him dead in his rugged. handsome eyes, and spews a column of fire directly at his face.`Spy falls to the ground, pawing at his face until the fire goes out. He looks down at his hands and is enraged to find that his balaclava has been reduced to so much cinder and ash.

Zat putain.

Spy scowls as cool wind, somewhat thin from their altitude, whips his face; it seems to him zat the breeze is mocking him, making fun of his poor charred balaclava. With a bit more angry French relish zan you would find even on escargot, Spy jumps to the task of his first command; he catches his enemy's lying eyes and spews forth a few choice insults at her. True, most of it iz in a French-sounding dialect of Pokemon speech zat Chimani can hardly understand, but more zan enough is understandable for her to be offended. Her mother wouldn't be one of those unless she was a Growlithe...

Zora's Pokémon thinks for a moment, tail flicking back and forth angrily. He had no right to bring her Auntie into this... Time for something new; the Kitora pensively recalls battles and training matches past, attacks flicking past wildly. She finally settles upon one memory, of a flame-backed teammate rapidly slamming itself from side to side. Fitting, the Kitora thinks, as she flings herself wildly at Spy. Landing close enough to him to burn another balaclava, Chimani begins Thrashing wildly, smashing tail and head and claw into that smart-mouthed Sneasel. The blows are quite powerful, knocking Spy off of his lithe legs and keeping him down.

Spy attempts to claw his way off of the ground; He is prevented, however, by the insane force of ze Thrashing of his hated opponent. As it iz, he iz mostly unable to stand up, still taking more zan the occasional hit from stray claw of flame. He struggles with his allotted commands; he knows what a Night Slash is, but only ze venerated, evolved Weavile can use it...

She makes a noise halfway between a scream and growl, leaping at her hated enemy. Chimani was still in the spasmodic throes of her Assisted attack, barely in control of herself. Teeth and embers slap against Spy's arms and unbalaclavad head. The to pull apart, finally, from their violent tango. Their chests heave, blood and sweat mats their fur, and they glare angrily at each other.

Or, at least, Spy glares angrily at Chimani. The Kitora is currently glaring angrily at three Spys, one of which is wearing a sombrero.

As ze breeze picks up, whipping ze flames of Chimani's coat enchantingly, Spy spits out some small meazure of blood on ze ground. He was quite redee to do some damage, angry as he was. He disappears in a plume of ze finest shadows, prowling quickly towahrds his hated enemy. Who iz staring into space. Odd, but no one ever accused Spy of not taking advantage of ze confuzed ahnd helpless. He rakes his shadowy claws down ze Kitora's spine, his sharp claws leaving ze angry red welts on her bahck.

Chimani blinks rapidly, surprised at the sudden intrusion into her dreamland. And her back. She was still insanely dizzy from her all-out Thrash attack, but, damn it, that had hurt. Her wings and tail flare up, she twirls around angrily, and spews a column of fire... about a foot away from Spy. He gets away with nothing more than an uncomfortably warm pelt and an afterimage on his eyes.

Spy again disappears, but reappears almost immediately, as his opponent was right zer and also high from an attack. He once again slashes viciously into Chimani's back, zis time horizontally; zis leaves a symbol rather similar to a '#'. Ze Kitora yowls in pain as he leaps backwards once again. Zis was almost too easy...

Chimani whips around and blindly launches a Flamethrower; this time, she manages to hit her opponent, scalding his hand and burning away much of the fur. Spy vanishes in a whoosh of dark shadows, and slices up Chimani's backside in anger once more.

The Kitora doesn't even attack this time; her confusion and the pain combine to force her back into a land of catnip and flaming weasels. And also candy canes.

Zis, of course, has no effect on ze Kitora, as she iz too far gone at zis particulahr moment to cahr in ze slightest. Fooey. But of course, ze upshot of zis is zat she cannot attack, probably. So, Spy takes ze initiative ahnd dashes ahead, his claws drawing from ze sparse shadows to coat zemselves in an ultrahviolet-like light. Zey tear into Chimahni's front shoulder, leaving ze nasty black welts.

As he leaps back, however, he is slashed across the belly by the same attack he had just used. He gapes in anger and confusion as Chimani, dazed now as ever, begins licking the weaselblood from her claws. She thinks it's caramel, poor thing. Still stung by the Mirror Move, Spy fglares at his opponent before, once again, making it two who are playing zat game. Almost before zey have dissipated from ze last attack, shadows paint Spy's knife-like claws an natural, glowing black as he brings zem down across ze Chimani's face. She collapses for a minute, seeming to be almost unconscious, but is able to struggle up hile hissing all the while. Then the illusions take her once more and the pain becomes a bunch of giraffes.

Chimani, although still a tad loop-de-loop, knows that she's supposed to do something or another involving her team. She hopes that she gets the same move as before, since last time she ended up using a move that made those pretty flowers appear on everyone's face. An image of a small bear slashing furiously at a straw-filled dummy flashes across her mind's tv screen before she leaps (surprisingly gracefully, considering) at her opponent, feet clawing wildly at his face, chest, everywhere. All in all, the attack isn't terribly powerful, but it gets the job done.

And then her hallucinations go for a moment, and the Kitora realizes that she's in a whole lot of pain. But then the giraffes come back and the pain is now tall and not painful so yay.
