After three rounds, the Red Gyarados will appear, and there is a 10% chance of a Pokemon getting hit by its Hyper Beam once per round, which does 7% damage. The battle takes place at the edge of the lake, so trainers can use both land-dwelling and water-bound Pokemon.

[Chiot]Growlithe(M)
Ability: Flash Fire
Held Item: Fire Stone

Attacks:

Fire Spin first, then use Fire Fang. Finish off with Flamethrower, if Falcata is burned, otherwise, use Dig.

Fire Spin ~ Fire Fang ~ Flamethrower / Dig

First off, I'll be releasing Falcata on top of the lake, right in the middle of it.

Right then, Falcata. Agillity to dodge that Fire Spin and, of course, raise your speed - but make sure you stay above the lake. That should make you the faster pokemon, so follow it up with Swagger and Toxic.

If you get stuck in the Fire Spin, Rain Dance and then use the command you would have used previously.

Agility / Rain Dance ~ Agility / Swagger ~ Swagger / Toxic

-Pre-Round-

Ah, the Lake of Rage. It's actually quite a nice place, once you get past the hordes of Gyarados that crop up once in a while. Nonetheless, it makes a great place to have a battle, and as one would expect, it is what two trainers and a (recently revived from the dead) referee have come for today. The two trainers here today are by no means new to the battling scene- Grass King and Whivit. Grass King calmly tosses forward his first (and only) Pokeball of the battle, which promptly splits open, revealing a red-orange puppy-like Pokemon, wearing a collar encrusted with a small amber colored stone. Not at all intimidated by Grass King's choice in Pokemon (pun not intended), Whivit calmly glances out to the lake, tossing his own ball out to the water. It bursts open seconds before landing in the water, revealing a somewhat large, almost robotic looking, disc-like blue Pokemon that hovers a foot or so off of the water's surface.

The two trainers nod to each other. The referee nods, waving a green flag down, commencing the battle. Round one, begin!

Whivit [O]
Falcata Metang (X) <Clear Body>
HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Status: Ready and floating above the water.
Commands: Agility / Rain Dance ~ Agility / Swagger ~ Swagger / Toxic

-Round 1-

Chiot is the first to react to the flag's motion, quickly pointing himself at the floating figure above the lake. The Growlithe gathers a large, spinning ball of flames in his jaws, firing it off at Falcata with great force. As the ball of fire leaves Chiot's mouth, it quickly reshapes itself, turning into a large tornado of flames, still aimed at the opposing Metang. The blue flying saucer Pokemon realizes that it won't be able escape collision with the cone of fire headed towards it, and instead of trying to escape starts doing the only logical thing to do at a time like this- dance.

In truth, Falcata isn't dancing just for the heck of it. It's actually performing a ritual rain dance taught to most Pokemon at a very young age. It generally works too, so long as it's performed correctly. Falcata completes the final motion of the dance just in time, as it is bombarded by flames mere milliseconds afterward. The twister of flames completely engulfs the Metang, trapping it on all sides. After a few seconds of this fiery torture, the effect of the dance kicks in, bringing about a total downpour. While the torrential rain does dampen the overall power of the tornado, it does not entirely extinguish it.

[Falcata- HP: 96% Energy: 97%] [Chiot- HP: 100% Energy: 98%]

Chiot is unsure about his next command. He's told to use Fire Fang on Falcada, but how is he supposed to reach it when it's hovering above the water thirty feet away? Now wet and upset, the pup gives the hovering blue heap of scrap metal an irritated growl that effectively says, 'get over here and let me kill you'.

Chiot isn't the only nervous one on the battlefield though, Falcada was told to use Agility, under the assumption that Chiot's Fire Spin would have dissipated from the rain. It hasn't though, and the Metang is a bit unnerved by the thought of running through a wall of fire, even if it is only a centimeter or two thick. Nevertheless, it manages to ignore the thoughts of fiery pain and darts straight through a section where the flames are slightly thinner, then keeps darting around until its joints are thoroughly loosened up, despite the stinging pain of going through a wall of fire twice. It looks back to see that the fiery tornado had started to go away mere seconds after it left, and curses its poor judgment for not simply waiting a moment.

[Falcata- HP: 94% Energy: 93%] [Chiot- HP: 100% Energy: 98%]

Now felling much quicker to react, Falcata darts over to its opponent, gathering ingredients for a large glob of toxic ooze together in its mouth (or whatever the equivalent is on a Metang). While still maintaining a reasonable distance from the fiery hound, the floating piece of space junk spits out the relatively large, purple ball of slime down at Chiot, landing it right on his back. Granted, it doesn't stay there long, as it soaks right through the Growlithe's fur and through his skin, poisoning his bloodstream with numerous nasty chemicals, but one has to admit it looked pretty gross.

Although Chiot generally isn't one to run away after being humiliated like this, he grudgingly obeys his trainer and starts digging. And boy, does he dig. In mere seconds the Growlithe has dug himself a hole at least four feet deep. In a minute, he's already got himself a fine tunnel a few feet underneath the ground.

Energy: 89%
Status: Calmly waiting for Chiot to resurface.
Rain Dance ~ Agility ~ Toxic

Battle Notes:
-Falcata couldn't get out of the way of Fire Spin.
-Rain Dance didn't completely douse the Fire Spin until the second action.
-Fire Fang failed because Chiot couldn't reach Falcata.
-It is raining. (4 more rounds remaining.)
-Whivit goes next.

Perfect.

Falcata, float over to the earthy-section now that we're faster, mmk, and give our friend a nice hearty Earthquake. Be prepared for some sort of retaliation, since I'm sure the lil' pup won't enjoy that, but I think it's worth it.

If Chiot remains underground, continue to Earthquake for one more action. If he comes out, then quickly float back over the lake and set up a Substitute for %10 of your health (if the sub can't float over the water toss it onto the land), and Swagger. Obviously if you used Earthquake twice, move Substitute to the third action.

Earthquake ~ Earthquake / Substitute (10%) ~ Substitute (10%) / Swagger

Okay Chiot, use Agility to try and rush outn of the hole and jump into the Air, to avoid the Earthquakeand and use a Fire Blast, while your still in the air, since we can get at it now. Finish off by putting up a Safeguard, since we should be faster, and it should stop the confusion.

Agility + Fire Blast ~ Safeguard

-Round 2-

The next round takes no delay to get to the action, as Falcata raises its metallic claws, and slams them both down into the surprisingly soft ground with so much force that it causes the whole field to shake. Chiot feels the impact the most out of anything on the field (except maybe the local burrowing wildlife but who honestly cares about them), being right beneath the impact site. The tremors cause the structure of the little orange pup's underground den to fall apart. The Growlithe takes no delay to escape, running at top speed out of the exit tunnel, gathering a ball of fire as he goes. He shoots the fireball out at the opposing Metang on exit, now felling much more limber.

[Falcata- HP: 83% Energy: 83%][Chiot- HP: 69% Energy: 83%]

Now more quick, Chiot beats Falcata to the next move, channeling a portion of his energy into a thin, almost transparent, blue veil around himself, through which no status inducing attacks can go. Falcata doesn't seem to see the point in the veil, having not planned a status move this action, instead floating its way back over the water. Once the Metang decides it's far out enough, it uses it's telekinetic powers to dredge a few rocks up from the bottom of the lake and stick them together into a rough copy of itself. Deciding it probably won't be making it any more stable than it already is, Falcata finishes of the replica by slapping on a thin coating of its own HP, sparking the substitute to a life of protecting its creator.

[Falcata- HP: 73% Energy: 78% Substitute at 10% HP][Chiot- HP: 69% Energy: 78%]

Facata laughs at its opponent. It laughs and laughs and to the point where it almost can't give a reasonable explanation for it. Once it finally manages to stop its laughing fit, it explains just how much better than Chiot it is. How it doesn't have to stop and wait an action to gather its strength back. How it doesn't need a type advantage to win. How it even if the puny pup could attack, there's nothing it could really do to the superior Metang. The cocky Metang's jeers enrage Chiot. He almost starts to be unable to tell left from right, he's so angry at Falcata. Fortunately though, his Safeguard's calming blue light helps to calm him down, although the two or three seconds of rage does make him feel sort of empowered. The Metang curses its luck under its breath, making sure Chiot doesn't hear it and feel even better about himself.

Grass King [O]
Chiot Growlithe (M) <Flash Fire>
HP: 67%
Energy: 76%
Status: Prepared to beat the snot out of his cocky opponent. Attack +2, Speed +2, Badly Poisoned (2% this round, 4% next)
Agility + Fire Blast ~ Safeguard ~ nothing

Falcata Metang (X) <Clear Body>
HP: 73%
Energy: 76%
Status: Cursing Chiot's Safeguard. Speed +2
Substitute: 10%
Earthquake ~ Substitute ~ Swagger

Battle Notes:
-I doubled Earthquake's damage because he was underground.
-Earthquake destroyed Chiot's tunnel.
-Fire Blast's damage was halved from the rain.
-Safeguard stopped the confusion from Swagger, but not the attack boost.
-It is raining. (3 more rounds)
-Grass King goes next.

Okay, lets start off by using Ember on yourself to activate your ability. Then use Flame Wheel if you can get to Metang, otherwise use Flamethrower. If Metang is burned, finish off with Facade, but if it isn't, use Will-O-Wisp.

Ember (on self) ~ Flame Wheel/Flamethrower ~ Facade/Will-O-Wisp

Uh... Earthquake's power is supposed to be doubled when the opponent is underground. See. >>;

Anyhow. Grab the growlithe with a Psychic and toss him into the center of the lake. Make sure it is the center - or the deepest part - just so it'll be hard for him to get out. Hold him down under the water while you can, for the first action, mmk. Then let him go and use a Rock Tomb to keep him there - or if he's already out of the water, grab him again and toss him in (and hold him under). On the third action, do one of three things: if your substitute is gone, use a Bullet Punch to dive under the water; if he's stuck in the Rock Tomb, chill; if he's out of the water but you still have your substitute, toss him back into the water with another Psychic and hold him there.

And, just to emphasize, stay over the water for the whole round unless I specifically tell you otherwise.

If there are no rocks for your Rock Tomb, forget that and maintain your Psychic hold throughout the round.

Psychic ~ Rock Tomb / Psychic ~ Bullet Punch / Chill / Psychic

Just to clarify I WOULD like the reffing edited to match Earthquake's actual damage.

Emergency-reffing this round.

Grass King vs. Whivit: Round Three

Arena: Lake of Rage

The lake in Johto, just north of Mahogany Town. After three rounds, the Red Gyarados will appear, and there is a 10% chance of a Pokemon getting hit by its Hyper Beam once per round, which does 7% damage. The battle takes place at the edge of the lake, so trainers can use both land-dwelling and water-bound Pokemon.

Long after the battlers get antsy - one of them, in fact, seems to be off enjoying a spot of tea or something - an emergency referee finally arrives at the Lake of Rage. Introducing himself as Jack, he hurriedly gets the battle rolling again.

Round Three: begin!

Carefully watching from the shore as the blue robot and its weird rocky substitute float above the water, Chiot allows more flames to emerge from his gullet. Although smaller and weaker than the Fire Blast he’d recently emitted, the embers that he spits out onto his paw are enough to activate his special ability. There aren’t any physical effects of this activation, except that his coat almost seems to turn a deeper red; on the other hand, invisible to both battlers, the flames deep in Chiot’s esophagus flare up incredibly, and Chiot now finds it difficult to keep the fire from constantly coming up and flaring through his teeth.

Falcata chuckles at this under its breath. Fire won’t do the Growlithe any good when he’s struggling to stay above the water’s surface. With a twirl of its arms, Falcata brusquely breaks into the little dog’s mind with its psychic powers, throwing him into the lake with a heavy splashing noise and holding him down at the bottom. Chiot struggles to take back control of his body, unable to breathe underwater, but Falcata’s power is too strong for him. Even the referee is a bit squeamish about this; drowning a battler (even though Chiot would completely recover when recalled to his Pokeball) seems a little bit too sadistic. The move is technically legal, though, so the battle goes on.

<Chiot: -15H, -1E / Attack +2, Speed +2, badly poisoned, Safeguarded / unable to breathe>
<Falcata: -0H, -6E / normal status / murderously calm>

The Growlithe gasps as Falcata’s control fades. In a panic and reverting to his instincts, he can’t think of anything but his commands. As he slowly floats upwards, Chiot tries to let loose a fiery breath, but the attempted flamethrower does nothing more than heat up the water and cause bubbles of steam to appear on the surface.

Falcata, on the other hand, is clear-headed and perfectly in control. It directs its psychic attacks this time toward the lake bed, rolling the rocks and boulders to surround Chiot, who is left floating a few feet above the lake bed inside a tight pillar of rock. Without warning, the pillar collapses, forcing Chiot back to the floor of the lake and leaving nothing visible but a pile of rocks that uncomfortably reminds the Trainers of a tomb.

<Chiot: -10H, -4E / Attack +2, Speed +2, badly poisoned, Safeguarded / almost blacking out>
<Falcata: -0H, -6E / normal status / satisfied>

Nearing unconsciousness now, Chiot is unable to do more than weakly struggle to escape. Incredibly luckily, though, the dog’s flailing loosens some smaller rocks, creating a small hole in the rock pile, just wide enough to wiggle through. The Growlithe’s vision is caked with blackness as he finally reaches the surface, taking deep breaths of fresh air.

Does the surface count as “out of the water”? Falcata wonders about its commands. In any case, it’s not about to give the dog any chance for comfort now, and in seconds has retaken its psychic control of Chiot’s mind, forcing him underwater yet again. In the distance, Falcata notices some immense red fish firing off energy beams, but for now the battlers are safe from it, even if not from each other.

<Chiot: -19H, - 4E / Attack +2, Speed +2, badly poisoned / not much better>
<Falcata: -0H, -6E / normal status / ready for a more difficult opponent to come along>

Arena status:
Rain is pouring down. (2 rounds remaining.)

Near the coast, there is a hole, about the width around of a Growlithe. The tunnel has been collapsed, but the soil is less dense than usual for several meters down. If a Pokemon wanted to use Dig here, it would probably be less tiring than usual to do.

Ref’s notes:
1. Pokedex used: Veekun @ http://veekun.com/
2. Random number generator used: @ http://javascript.internet.com/games/dice-roller.html
3. According to the Attacks and Abilities Guide, Flash Fire can no longer be activated by one’s own attack, but since these commands were given before it was changed I guess it’ll go by the old rule for this round only.
4. According to Round 2, Metang has a +2 Speed boost but I can’t figure out how it got it, so I’m ignoring it.
5. Chiot, being a Fire-type, is taking damage from being underwater, starting at 2% and increasing for every action he remains underwater.
6. Chiot’s Flamethrower failed because he was underwater. On the third action, he used Struggle because, being tightly enclosed by Rock Tomb, there wasn’t much else he could do.
7. Whivit will attack first next round.

Whivit is DQ'ed. The prizes are as follows:

Grass King receives $8. Chiot receives 1 EXP.
Whivit is barred from challenging for 2 months. Falcata receives 1 EXP.
I receive $5, I think. (I'd love to get confirmation from Negrek or someone on this. Seems iffy to me since a) I was an e-ref and b) I only e-reffed one round, and already got paid for it.)

Well, since referees still get paid for battles that only go one round before DQ, you can take $5 for this one.
