Are a lot of the main series starters reptilian?

Bulbasaur- A supposed dinosaur/plant thing
Squirtle- A turtle
Charmander- A lizard that turns into a dragon
Chicorita- It looks vaugly like a sauropod in it's later evos.
Totodile- A crocodilian creature
Treeko- A stylized gecko
Turtwig- ANOTHER turtle.

Seriously... Is it just me? O.o
 
It's pretty much just the grass starters that are mainly reptillian. The others are probably just coincidence.
 
The Bulbasaur line seems more frog/toad-like than dinosaur-like to me... I'm guessing the only reason anyone sees "dinosaur" in them is the "saur" in their names. And maybe the claws, but a ton of things have claws (even a few species of frogs... though their "claws" are actually bones that can come out through the skin.)

They don't really look like any known dinosaur species at all... plus they're all part Poison (many frogs/toads, especially tropical ones, are poisonous) and Venusaur even has some toad-like "warts."


Amphibians: Bulbasaur (frog/toad), Mudkip (salamander)
Reptiles: Charmander (generic lizard), Squirtle (turtle), Totodile (alligator/crocodile), Treecko (gecko), Turtwig (turtle)
Birds: Torchic (chicken), Piplup (penguin)
Mammals: Cyndaquil (porcupine/badger?), Chimchar (monkey)
Other?: Chikorita (non-specific "monster" type thing, with planty features... and then gets sauropod-like features later. So they don't really fit into any category that well.)

Yeah... there's definitely an overabundance of reptiles among the starters, though there's a decent amount of amphibians, birds, and mammals too.

Fish and invertebrates are very underrepresented, though... there haven't been any real fish yet (Mudkip line's fins look like mudskipper fins... but that's about the only fishy thing about them, so I don't count them as being fish) and no bugs/worms/etc. at all. And somehow there haven't been any "all plant" Grass-type starters yet, either.
