Jack_the_PumpkinKing vs. sreservoir

Okay, Ganon. I want you to get down into the bell chamber. Preferably, I want you to do it without losing an action, so if you think you can, try to hang off the eave and swing into the chamber. (If that's physically impossible or improbable for some reason, just Teleport in instead.) Stay as far away from Nenya as you can, so that hopefully she uses Natural Gift. If you still have time to attack before Nenya strikes again, I'd like you to throw her Substitute off the tower and into the mustard gas with Psychic. If you can't before her next action, shift it forward.

On the second action, put her to sleep, and on the last action, farm her for energy! If Hypnosis fails/misses/etc, use Will-O-Wisp instead. If you weren't able to use Psychic on the first action, shift it to the second and hypnotize her on the last.

This battle takes place in a war-torn part of the world, and at the moment, deadly mustard gas covers the ground in a thick layer. For as far as the eye can see, the only thing that reaches up out of the deadly clouds is a huge, majestic wrought-iron bell tower which, for some unknown reason, has survived the chaos. Hanging in the tower is a single enormous crystal bell, which shimmers with an ancient, magical glow. The battlers can fight anywhere on the tower that they can stand on (or fly or hover or whatever), but they start out in the chamber containing the bell, with one battler on the north end and the other on the south end, with the bell between them. If a battler falls into, flies into, or otherwise makes contact with the mustard gas on the ground, they become severely poisoned as if with the attack Toxic (starting at 3% health per round and escalating from there), and for every action that they remain in the gas, they lose 5% health (in addition to the Toxic condition). At the end of every round (3 actions), the crystal bell rings, swinging back and forth and knocking off anybody who may be directly east or west of it. The bell's mysterious, otherworldly ring does one of the following:

(20%) chance of doing nothing at all,
(10%) chance of healing 5% health to all battlers,
(10%) chance of healing 5% energy to all battlers,
(10%) chance of reducing all status conditions' intensity by one level
(8%) chance of completely healing all minor status conditions (Attract, Confuse)
(8%) chance of completely healing all Burns
(8%) chance of completely healing all Freezing
(8%) chance of completely healing all Poison (including that which is dealt by the mustard gas)
(8%) chance of completely healing all Sleep
(8%) chance of completely healing all Paralysis
(2%) chance of raising all battlers' Attack and Special Attack to the maximum (+6) and reducing their Defense and Special Defense to the minimum (-6)

If, for example, the bell rings a tone that will heal all Burns, but none of the battlers are Burned, it will seem to do nothing. If the bell is destroyed by something like Earthquake, obviously it will not ring.

Reluctantly dragging herself out of her comfortable spiral, Nenya tilted her head back and once again focused on the very core of her unique supernatural powers. Within a few seconds a bright white light had appeared in front of her nose, the orb steadily growing bigger until it was roughly the size of her head. Obviously the Dratini was unable to hold onto the energy indefinitely, and she pushed it forward when she felt the sphere become unstable. It shot out of the bell chamber and onto the roof, where it hit Ganon square in the stomach, causing him to cough and sputter indignantly. Just when he was starting to get comfortable.

After taking a moment to rub his sore belly, Ganon lurched to his feet and approached the edge of the roof. Taking a deep breath, he looked over edge. Much to his disappointment he couldn’t make out any part of the bell chamber at all, indicating he’d probably plunge to his doom if he tried to swing into the bell chamber, like his trainer suggested – not like his pitiful arm strength could do much swinging, anyhow. He sighed and leaned back, gathering psychic energy around him and at a spot near the now-shattered crystal bell. With a little pop he suddenly found himself in the exact place he specified: the northwest corner of the tower, which was directly opposite of Nenya’s location.

The Dratini glared at her opponent. She could get to the Ralts if she wanted to, but he was still a good distance away… Shrugging, she charged a Natural Gift for the umpteenth time this match and shot it at Ganon. He tried to sidestep the orb, but it merely changed its course and slammed into his side instead, causing him to stagger ever so slightly towards the edge. With a hiss he regained his footing and extended his psychic reach to grip the Substitute that had appeared without his knowing – Nenya fancied that she saw little purple hands surround the structure – before forcefully hoisting it into the air and chucking it over the side. It writhed as it fell, little fragments breaking off of it as Ganon ravaged the pain sensors in its simple nervous system, and was eventually swallowed by the dense clouds of mustard gas.

Nenya sniffed in dismay as she watched her Substitute plummet to its oblivion. At least that wasn’t her. Her breath was starting to come in shorter, harsher gasps, but she figured she had more than enough energy to shoot off a couple more miraculously-homing spheres. Her face was lit up by a familiar white glow as she drew up the source of her individualistic powers – she wondered if it was ever going to run out – and shot the resulting orb at Ganon. The energy seared his skin, which was starting to look like how it did about two rounds ago.

Nenya braced herself after Ganon had recovered from the Natural Gift, expecting to be mercilessly bound by psychic energy and thrown off the tower like her Substitute was. Instead, Ganon was… staring at her. She glared back, belatedly realizing that her eyelids were slipping shut. She was so tired, though… a little nap couldn’t hurt, right? As Nenya collapsed onto the floor, Ganon couldn’t help but let out a little sigh. He was just as exhausted as his opponent; why couldn’t he be the one taking a nap?

I’ve drawn a very rough and not-to-scale map of the Crystal Belfry here. The roof sticks up a fair amount, so I figured Ganon couldn’t swing into the chamber without the risk of falling.

Okay, Ganon, we have the upper hand now. Basically her only options are Snore, Chill, and Sleep Talk. If she's commanded to Snore or Chill, I want you to eat her dream (and take energy, since you need it!). If she's commanded to Sleep Talk, wait and see what comes out; if it looks nasty and/or super-effective, erect a Protect shield. Otherwise, go with Dream Eater.

And in case of falling off the tower for some reason, Teleport back up into the bell chamber, of course.

Dream Eater (energy)/Protect/Teleport x3

Sleep Talk unless too tired for two consecutive Natural Gifts, in which case Chill. If you wake up (Shed Skin or something), Chill.

Though he still felt bone-tired, Ganon was quite confident that he would be safe for a while yet. Of course, there was the threat of Sleep Talk, but that couldn’t be too bad, could it? As if on cue, Nenya’s head suddenly jerked off the ground and she began to murmur in an ominous tone. Ganon nervously sucked in a breath as he watched a bright white orb form in front of Nenya’s snout; as he recalled how much the Natural Gifts had ached, he prepared to erect a shield, but wait – the sphere wasn’t quite as big as it was before. Biting his lip, the Ralts decided to take a chance. He wrapped his arms around his shoulders and braced himself, just as a white beam shot towards him. The energy aggravated his bruises, biting deeply, and Ganon cringed.

It was over soon enough, however, and Ganon immediately entered Nenya’s subconscious in his spiritual form as she collapsed back on the floor. The Ralts looked around with clear intrigue. So snake-dragons dream about strawberry milkshakes, huh? he thought, then smirked evilly before forcibly ripping the rainbow clouds out of the sky. Gaping black holes were left behind, from which poured chocolate milkshake instead; Nenya wailed in despair as the fat brown drops rained onto her scales. Where did her strawberry milkshake go?

Ganon chuckled as he pulled out of Nenya’s mind, chewing some sort of fluffy substance. When he swallowed, he immediately felt a rush of energy flow through him. In contrast, Nenya was panting as if she had just run a marathon, beads of sweat dribbling off her forehead. A faint command, dredged up from a part of her mind, told her she should rest should she get too tired, and she obliged only too gratefully. The Dratini let out a sigh and relaxed tense muscles, resting as best as she could, which was an understandably hard task when her dreams were filled with unspeakable horrors.

Ganon still wasn’t satisfied, though. Hungrily he reached back into Nenya’s mind and haphazardly began to tear chunks of dirt from the ground, creating yet more voids in the Dratini’s dream. By now, she had resorted to curling in a tight, tight spiral, her eyes squeezed shut as she tried to block out the terror of her subconscious. Ganon felt yet another rush of vitality as he retreated back into his own body, though admittedly the taste left in his mouth wasn’t nearly as pleasant; earth was hardly a pleasing food.

By that time Nenya was groaning in her sleep, feeling so exhausted that even her shallow sleep provided no solace. The energy from her previous rest seemed to have vanished into thin air. She tried again, attempting to block out her ravaged dreams and relaxing as best as she could. Relief settled on her when she felt vigour leak back into her – not a whole lot, but it was enough.

Just like last time, though, a presence seemed to invade Nenya’s dream; when it disappeared, it took yet another chunk of out her dream’s landscape as well as the energy she had just regained. With an enraged squeak the Dratini jerked awake to find Ganon sitting opposite to her, chewing thoughtfully on something.

While what Nenya really wanted to do was to drop down on the spot and resume sleeping for at least another week, she forced her eyes to stay open so she could observe her opponent. She immediately wished she hadn’t. Ganon smirked before raising a single finger in a rude, ubiquitous gesture. Then he stuck out his tongue and wiggled it mockingly at her. A voice echoed in the Dratini’s head. Aww, is the poor widdle dragon tired already? Gonna let something as insignificant as exhaustion interfere with the battle? Nenya hissed irritably and tried her best to block out Ganon’s voice, but she didn’t have much success. Oh yeah, and your expression right now? Priceless.

Screw it. Nenya hissed again, the noise sounding more like a raspy scream, before shooting off towards Ganon with her face still contorted in rage. Ganon’s smirk grew wider. Now positively seething, Nenya threw herself at her opponent, trying to bite him with miniscule teeth, but she was completely uncoordinated and the Ralts avoided the blows with relative ease. Her tail lashed across his face and he muttered darkly, but overall he was looking hardly worse for wear.

If she was deterred by her failure to do actual damage, Nenya didn’t show it. She lunged at Ganon again, this time managing to knock him over, but she didn’t get much farther than that since the Ralts had pushed her off. As Nenya struggled to regain her posture, Ganon sent her a multitude of little psychic pulses in the form of dazzling, dancing lights. They circled her head, refusing to skitter away even when Nenya shook her body in irritation. Though she had to admit they were quite pretty…

Tentatively the snake-like dragon craned her neck to touch a mote with her nose. It danced out of reach. She continued to chase it; slowly at first, gradually picking up speed. She didn’t realize that they had been leading her in circles until her head started to spin painfully, and she stopped, feeling incredibly nauseous as well as insanely bushed. Chasing the lights had, however, removed some stress from her brain, and she found herself able to think clearly again – though she still wanted her revenge on the little pipsqueak standing opposite to her.

Ganon didn’t give her a chance. Swiftly he gathered a swath of crackling electricity around his hand and casually waved it towards his opponent. A streamer of energy arced through the air to come down on Nenya’s back, and she immediately felt her body spasm in protest. A moment later, she found her face unnervingly close to the steel floor as she lost control over her rebelling muscles.

Nenya struggled to think through the haze in her mind. Giga Impact? Quickly she went through all the techniques she knew, grimacing all the while; she was pretty sure it wasn’t a move she could execute. It couldn’t be that hard, though – it was probably just a beefed-up version of Double Edge – and with that in mind she lunged at Ganon. Or rather, she tried to. The persistent lights dancing around the Dratini’s head threw off her perception and instead of hitting a small, humanoid Pokemon, she hit one of the roof’s support beams and crumpled against it. The pain was nothing compared to Nenya’s overwhelming exhaustion; fatigue pulled insistently at her eyelids, so tenacious that she had to focus entirely on staying awake.

Ganon looked at his opponent and frowned. Surely she wouldn’t respond to a Hypnosis, especially since she wasn’t looking at him. Nevertheless, his eyes began to glow a soft pink as he sent psychic pulses towards the felled dragon. As predicted, Nenya didn’t even twitch, though a low grunt indicated that she was still conscious. Ganon pouted.

Several minutes passed as Ganon stood there with his arms crossed, and Nenya lay on the ground, half-conscious. Finally, the Dratini groaned in exasperation and reared up suddenly. The beginning of a croon rumbled in her throat, but it quickly died away as exhaustion finally fought her down. As quickly as she rose, Nenya fell down again, and this time there was no sound to indicate that she was awake.

Ganon hesitantly walked up to his opponent and gave her an experimental jab in the side. When she didn’t react, the Ralts gave a whoop, elated that Nenya had finally, finally given in to her fatigue. Not even the growing pains from the poison in his system could temper his glee.

…Well that was less eventful than I was hoping for.
Dratini cannot learn Giga Impact; not that it mattered, because Nenya attacked herself in confusion on the 1st action.
Hypnosis missed.
Since she only had, I dunno, 1% energy left, I figured Nenya couldn’t execute the Draco Meteor, not even an epicly nerfed version.
Nenya fainted on the 2nd action.

And the battle is over~ Great match, you guys. It was pretty close – pity that the RNG gods hate sreservoir so much.

Jack gets $8 for winning, sreservoir gets $3, and I get $5 for reffing.

Ganon gets 2 EXP, and Nenya, 1 EXP.

Woooooooow that was close, even with RNG-hating. If Nenya could've hung on for one more round before fainting I would've probably died from the poison. Thanks for a great battle, sreservoir, and thanks for reffing for us, Blazhy.

And then I realized that if I'd chilled on the first action and the RNG decided to be nice (not likely, of course, but still...) and the first hypnosis missed, I could have safeguarded the second action and chilled, but I guess the RNG would have screwed me over either way.

Thank, all of those involved, with the possible exception of the Random Number God that happened to be on duty.
