1 vs 1
DQ: 5 days
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned Moves: Anything that would cause any battler to instantly faint, Evasion, Weather, Attract, Direct Healing moves, Chills limited to 3 per Pokémon.
Arena: The Fighting Dojo
Yes, the unofficial gym in Saffron City. It is just like in the games, so I won't bother with a precise description. Okay, I will. Walls of wood and floor of tatami, the fighting dojo is ideal for a quick 1 vs 1 fight between two eager battlers, and supervised by the Karate King himself. What most people ignore, though, is that the fighters practice a magical art from long ago, to shield their training spot from those pesky psychic-types next door. The area sports a various array of effects to spice things up, so don't expect a boring battle. At least, I hope so.
Effects:
I. Fighting-type attacks deal 2% more damage for 2% less energy after all calculations.
II. Psychic-type attacks deal 2% less damage for 2% more energy after all calculations.
III. Flying-type moves deal half damage because of the enclosed environment.
IV. Moves that cause arena destruction aren't banned, but if they were used both battlers would be kicked out (the user sustaining a hefty 25% fighting-type damage, not affected by the damage cap) and the battle would continue outside, and all effects would disappear.
V. At the end of each round, the arena will change, each with equal possibility, and never the same twice in a row.
- Casual Dojo: The battle starts in this arena, and it has no particular effect over the battlers:
- Training Pond: The floor shifts and opens to reveal a pond below. The battlers have to stand on Bamboo sticks, reducing the accuracy of their contact moves by 10%. If they miss because of that, they will fall in the pond, sustaining 2% typeless damage from the fall, and lose an action as well as 2% energy to climb up again. If they are targeted by a contact attack while in the pond, the user will just wait, chilling out and recovering 5% energy. This doesn't count towards the chill limit.
- Training Course: The floor shifts and opens, revealing a heavy artillery of training devices, most of them being very dangerous to approach. If a battler uses a move requiring movement over a wide area, the will inevitably hit one of those machines, sustaining 5% steel damage.
- Training Machine: The floor shifts and opens, revealing a indestructible glass floor with flashing lights all over. This special training floor activates the effects of Trick Room, Gravity and Magic Room. Additionally, the machine absorbs the power of all moves, effectively only leaving contact moves to be damaging. Non-damaging moves still work.
Other: Unevolved fighting-types only.

Round four, begin!
Ryoku eyes Dawg carefully before tapping into whatever power bleeds through from next door. If she's being honest with herself, her arms are starting to tire from doing this so much - sort of like the way humans get tired if they play that Wii thing too much. She pushes the thought away, however, spinning in place on the bamboo pole as another arc of bubblegum-pink energy slams into Dawg.
Unfortunately for Ryoku, this proves sufficient to wake the puppy up, and he sits for a few moments, blinking owlishly. He doesn't recall being this wounded a few minutes ago. Finally he remembers where he is and the half-heard commands from ole_schooler. Immediately he sets to work, standing up and puffing out his chest. He's tired and bruised, but this has to look good.
"I could do this so much better than you, y'know. I'd look cooler than you, too," he brags, striding back and forth along his own bamboo pole. "I mean, I'd look about 20% cooler, if not more because I'm
just that awesome." He waggles his hips and grins wickedly at Ryoku, relishing the sight of her being worked up into a frothing anger. He affects an over-effeminate voice for his next line, declaring, "Besides, Psychic-types are all wimps and losers anyway.
Oooh, look at me, I'm a Psychic-type and I hit things with my brain because I'm too much of a wimp to--"
What a Psychic-type is too much of a wimp to do, however, will forever remain a mystery, because Ryoku has finally had enough of the Riolu's trash-talking. Tired arm muscles be damned, he is going to pay.
I'll show you how weak Psychic moves are! In her desperation, Ryoku pulls on more energy than she's ever dared before, the words of the Swagger attack only egging her on. She edges closer and closer, Dawg still completely unaware of her advancement, until finally he is at her mercy.
And right now, she doesn't have any.
He is at her nothing.
He is at her
lack of mercy.
Dawg is in the middle of turning around when he suddenly receives a very, very angry Meditite to the face. There's a searing flash across the side of his face, followed rapidly by another and then a third.
"Could a wimpy Psychic-type do this?
Hmm? COULD A WIMP DO THIS?!" she shrieks into his ear before abruptly realising someone is holding her up, away from the now-fainted Dawg. Twisting round, she realises it's the referee, with a look on her face that is clearly trying to be stern but seems more preoccupied with not falling off.
Which she does. Both Ryoku and the ref go tumbling into the water, which is so cold that it at least clears her mind. She climbs out of the pool and is recalled by Lord of the Fireflies; the referee takes significantly longer and has to try and bring Dawg with her.
When the unconscious Riolu is recalled, the referee gets to the business of handing out notes - which, given her unfortunate trip into the pool, are now more than a little wet. She tries to give an apologetic grin.
Round four over!

End of Round Notes
- Both Psycho Cuts rolled for a critical hit. ole_schooler, may I suggest the sacrifice of small children? I hear the RNG gods like those.
- Dawg woke up at the beginning of the second action, so I made him spend the first being groggy because that made more sense to me. Sorry if it's not clear.
- Moral of the story: Do Not Anger a Psychic Monkey.
End of Battle Notes
As the winner,
Lord of the Fireflies receives
$8. As Ryoku is holding a Lucky Egg, she receives
3 exp (1 for being sent out and 2 for knocking out Dawg).
ole_schooler receives
$3. A
staggering amount, I know. Since Dawg is holding a Soothe Bell (which I apologise for not including in the reffing texts), he receives
2 happiness points... I think. The description isn't too clear. I'm assuming since he "treats the battle as a win", that would mean gaining happiness as if he had knocked out Ryoku, right?
As the referee, I receive
$9 and the warm fuzzly feeling that comes from a job well done.
As an aside, was the actual text of the battle entertaining? I try my best, but I'm still just a Novice-level ref.
Also, I would have kept to my usual timing, but I didn't see that ole_schooler's commands had been given until like an hour ago.
