• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Minecraft Server

Solstice

Back from the dead.
Assuming we don't already have one, I can host a Minecraft server, for free, on my laptop. Basically, a dedicated server.

Only thing that makes it a bit trickier is that to connect to it, you need to be connected to my Hamachi network, which requires LogMeIn Hamatchi. After you install it, I can give you the network name and password to set it up, and the Minecraft Server IP.

I'll be keeping it to 8 players maximum, to keep from major bandwidth usage on my side.

This server can also be used for co-op maps, like the ones that can do up to 6 players, so it would be 2-6 for co-op, I suppose (otherwise you'd be spectating. Any interfering, and I'd kick you from the Hamatchi network).

Server has support for client mods (such as TooManyItems, but I would recommend not using it), PvP support if you want, Nether, etc. I can also install a few plug-ins to add some nice features to the server (if you want to recommend any, make sure the are from the Bukkit Plug-In repository). Send me any maps, co-op, multiplayer, whatever, for them to be used.

Most, if not all, client-side mods are supported, but depending on their function, I may or may not allow them.

Lastly, mobs will be disabled except during 2-4 player co-op to prevent major bandwidth usage. I need bandwidth usage to be decreased as much as possible, so mobs will be disabled most of the time.

I also have a few plug-ins installed already to reduce major causes of lag (3,000 TNT with 23 players would theoretically cause no lag now).

Just some news, server is up and working fine, although it's not public. I'd like it if a few people could come onto a map I'm working on for the public release, and I need things added like buildings, pixel art, etc.

I'll either enable creative mode or allow you to use TooManyItems for now.

If you want to help out, post here, and I'll PM you the details.

Okay, I've officially started advertising the server in my signature.

Here's the deal. The server is extremely far from done. I'm still creating a fortress, and completed one house. Once Bukkit updates for 1.0.0, I'll be allowing certain people onto the server (via port forwarding, not Hamatchi), with the purpose of helping to create the server. They can create pixel art, they can cover up purposeless holes, they can create their own structures, they can help other people. Whatever.

I'll be putting the boundaries for the map in later, so don't go too far.

Finally, any griefing from this time will be resulted in a kick, then a second time, a temporary ban, then you'll be on the server blacklist.

EDIT: Also, first few people I find trustworthy will be made op. In extension the the above sentence, if you are op and get kicked for griefing, you will be unopped.

I'm interested.

Yeah, I'm going to need people volunteering to do this.

Checking if Bukkit updated for 1.0.0, if they did, I'll PM you the details.

I'm running the CraftBukkit 1.0.0 dev build on my server at the moment, contact me on these forums, or on Steam as DarkMatter1998 (which I am almost always on, you'll find me there more easily than here).

If everything is working correctly, I'll give you the details so you can connect.

We'll be working on the first, and main part of the world. I'm planning on incorporating warps once the required plug-ins update.

Also, a quick edit here, I just tested the server, and everything seems to be working so far. I haven't gone into extensive testing yet, but it seems fine so far. I have gotten a lot of severe errors in my log, though, but I'm assuming that's because I'm running a dev build (and I had to change the name to get the server starter to use it). If anyone is good at java, I'll send you the report.

EDIT2: Hold on, can't break blocks. :P

EDIT3: They were all Map Generating errors, my bad. I replaced it with my custom one, and everything is working perfectly in creative mode, no need to test Survival because I won't be activating it until Bukkit update for 1.0.0 officially.

Only thing that's messed up is spawn, looking for my house, which is going to take a while. I'll set up the multiplayer spawn once I find the perimeters.
