Open No Turning Back

As the heavy steel door of the escape pod sealed shut behind him, William looked around the interior of the small shuttle. The astronauts were cramped, no doubt about it, wedged between piles of equipment. Every spare corner of the pod had been crammed with supplies that had been intended to allow the astronauts to survive anywhere on Earth - food, tents, first aid kits, winter clothing, and even a few pistols and rifles were just a sample of the items available to the crew. It had all seemed a bit much when William first saw it months ago, but now he was glad to have them.

Turning back to the door, he pulled a key out of one of the pockets of his space suit and unlocked a panel on the wall. Behind it was the bright, red button that would detach the pod from the IHRS and send it rocketing toward the planet. He put his thumb on the button, but hesitated. He felt like he should say something. He turned back to face the other astronauts.

"If anyone's having second thoughts about this, now's the time to say so. We know we can breathe the air down there, but other than that there are no guarantees on this, and if we don't like what we find down there, there's nothing we can do about it. Once we drop, there's no turning back."

Peeking out of the window in the little tattered cottage she had lived in for her entire life, Methodia Astorum shrieked in excitement as she half ran, half flew out of her door, not even bothering to open it. "A spaceship! A spaceship! My studies have culminated!" she shouted. Flying swiftly over everyone once she got to the main busy town square of Ponyville, she rushed to the foreign hunk of metal, blue eyes shimmering brightly in anticipation and uncertainty. "Everyone, look!"

Momo Takekuro glanced up at William as he asked them if they really wanted to do this. With a small nod, she answered, "We have to do what must be done. If everyone else thinks we should stay, though, I'll stay, too. I really have no preference. Just...Whatever seems like the beat thing to do."

Stroking her long lavender hair nervously, she let out a shaky sigh.

She was really, really nervous.

Sure, her voice sounded as usual as ever, but the way her knuckles whitened when she clenched her fists was an obvious red flag.

Her blue eyes blinked down at her matching Converse hightops and she closed her eyes. Everything will be okay. You will be okay. You will be able to report to Father alive. Just calm down, Momo.

Rain Chaser awoke inside the cloud apartment she lived in. She yawned as she flew out of bed. She peered out of her, well, gap in the cloud. A UFO was hurdling towards Ponyville.

"Holy Celestia! That thing's heading straight for Ponyville!" She yelled as she flew out of her home to Ponyville, capital of Equestria.

The UFO thing was still hurdling, getting closer by the second. Rain was getting impatient. "Can we hurry this up? Ponyville, Trottingham, and Canterlot all are sceduled for a major storm today, and i have to set everything up."

The pod kept on coming. Closer, and closer still. She sighed, as she had a task to complete. "Luna Eclipse" she mumbled in her breathe. (Luna Eclipse being Jesus Christ in Pony)

She looked at Rainbow Dash, who was staring at the pod. Oh, what would Rainbow Dash do? she thought to herself. Being a huge Rainbow Dash fan, she decided to be loyal to Ponyville and stay, which was what Rainbow Dash would do.

Standing her ground, she awaited for the pod to crash. Well, somewhere where it wouldn't hit anyone, that is.

[No worries, I've cleared her.

Sorry if I'm moving things kind of quick on the space station end of things, but I want to make the timeline up there work out with what's going on in Equestria.]

It was plain to William that Momo was nervous, and he didn't blame her. She'd signed up to take a little trip to space, get a feel for life on a station, and she'd been thrust headlong into a potentially dangerous situation with no apparent way out. Everybody else was in the same boat. He gave her a sympathetic look.

"I think everyone else decided to drop - I know for a fact a couple of the other pods are already on their way down." He paused.

"And now, it's our turn."

He hit the red button, and the pod lurched violently, nearly knocking him off-balance. For a second, the astronauts floated weightlessly. Then, the pod lurched again as the rocket on top flared to life, launching the small craft straight at the planet.

"If it's any consolation, we know we've got a clear landing!" he yelled over the deafening roar of the engine. "We saw their lights at night, we know where their major cities are, and we made sure we wouldn't hit one!" He couldn't be blamed for not knowing the pod was going to land right outside Ponyville, since it wasn't visible from space.

Momo stared at William with big, scared blue eyes for a minute or so. Finally, she twisted a strand of violet hair around her finger and nodded. He was right.

As he jabbed his thumb into the red button, the pod burst toward the planet, causing Momo to loose her balance and fall backwards. Wincing at the surge of pain, the girl got to her knees only to be thrown off normality once again.

As she and all the others rose into the air weightlessly, Momo thought she was going to be sick. Her face turned a sickly green color.

When William reassured the group it would be a relatively safe landing, Momo relaxed a bit.

Well, at least they would die on the planet itself rather than the cramped space pod.

As the pod launched towards the planet, Alyson shook a bit, but from excitement, not fear.

...I can't believe it...an undiscovered planet... she thought, smiling a bit, And an alien race...

"I knew there was a reason I wanted to be an astronaut." she whispered to herself.

She shook herself out of her thoughts and turned to William

"So...how about when we get down there?" Alyson piped up.

From the tone of Alyson's question, she sounded eager rather than afraid like everybody else. It seemed amazing to William that anybody could be so fearless in the face of the unknown, but he supposed that was the exact sort of attitude an astronaut needed.

Motion sickness was a fact of life in rocket travel, and in William's case it was only amplified by the fear and uncertainty that gripped him about what awaited them on the surface. Remembering his training, he shut his eyes tightly and counted to ten, which helped him fight the wave of nausea that had overtaken him. He hoped that Momo was managing her own obvious discomfort, but he didn't want to open his eyes to find out. His stomach settled, he responded to Alyson.

"We'll need to set up a camp...start exploring...make contact with the aliens. I don't think we'll have to go too far to see them. Whether that's a good or a bad thing, we're about to find out."

By the time he finished saying this, there was another lurch as the engine on the underside of the pod flared to life. Scant miles above the edge of Ponyville, the rockets meant to soften the pod's landing had kicked in, and the resulting exhaust blew dry, hot air and copious amounts of smoke on the unfortunate ponies at the landing site.

Arriving to the pod, which had landed a ways away from where she thought it was, Methodia took in a deep breath.

"Well, there it is. My studies have boiled down to this point, no point in prolonging the moment." She fluttered her eyelids nervously, wings clamped tightly. If she were a human, she would have shed sweat. Running at a medium fast speed, she stood just outside of the pod on the outskirts of Ponyville.

"Hello! Hello, intelligent life! My name is Me-Th-O-Dee-ah!" She articulated each word, especially her name. Who knew if the intelligence that loomed above her spoke her language fluently, if at all?

"Hello?" She gently flew up to the top, briefly passing by a window as she went to the peak; thinking back, she lowered herself to the window and tapped it with her hoof. "My name is Meh-Th-O-Dee-Ah!" Those things looked weird. Two legs? And where was their cutie mark?

Oh well. Life is diverse.

Momo was very confused when the pod crashed. Her vision had gone blurry and her hearing went dead. Collapsed on the cold, metallic floor, the girl rose her hand to examine her skull just in case she had hit her head on something.

A little bit of liquid near the top. She slowly let her hand fall as she looked at the crimson blood on her fingers. It wasn't a very deep wound, nor did it cause a lot of pain.

Momo's head fell back onto the wall of the pod as her eyes wandered upon the window.

...What...What was that? Was she hallucinating?

...It...looked like a pony. If she had not been so dazed, Momo might've even called it cute.

Rain Chaser went over to the pod, which had, thankfully, not hit any passerbys. She pushed the pony, who said that her name was Methodia, out of the way.

"Listen, if you so much as TAP a living pony here, you'll be sorry!" she said coldly.

She looked at Rainbow Dash. Oh, how she wanted to be rainbow dash so much! Since she couldn't she started to walk away, where she was going to set up those rainstorms.

The pod hit the ground. Too hard. William had heard the rockets on the underside kick in, but they apparently hadn't worked as advertised. He stumbled, keeping his balance by bracing himself against the piles of equipment on either side of him. He saw that Momo wasn't so lucky - she looked like she had fallen, hard.

"We've got injured! See if she needs medi-"

His order was cut short when a sea-green creature fly in front of the window. It looked like a...winged horse? A pegasus? Was this one of the intelligent aliens? At any rate, it looked more like something from a fairy tale than from an alien planet. It seemed to be trying to talk to them, although he couldn't hear it through the thick plastic. He looked back to Momo, who seemed to be looking at the creature as well, just as bewildered as he was. He supposed he wasn't hallucinating.

Then a second winged horse knocked the first away. This one was similar in appearance, but for whatever reason, it seemed pissed. Had they landed the pod in a bad place, or was it just xenophobic. He looked out the window past it.

He sucked in breath through clenched teeth as he saw the ship, surrounded by more of the...he supposed the word was childlike...horses like the one in front of the window. Well, not quite. Most of them didn't have wings. Some had horns, but they were all looking at the ship, seemingly in a mixture of anticipation and curiosity. Behind them, he could see some small houses, mostly made of materials such as wood and straw. But hadn't they had electrical power? Surely they should have at least industrial age-level technology? Why would they be living in medieval style houses? Whatever the case, there was only one thing to do. He went over by the hatch and began turning the valve by it, causing it to slowly open. He turned back to face the other astronauts as the door inched up, his slight shaking and rapid breathing betraying his nervousness and feeling that he had lost whatever tenuous control he'd had of the situation.

"We made a mistake. We can forget about setting up camp. We landed in what looks like a village, they have the pod surrounded. They don't seem to be carrying any weapons, at least. It looks like someone here's going to have to play ambassador, and they're going to have to do it now. Anyone think they're up to it?"

Rain looked behind her, seeing the pod's hatch turning, then opening slowly. She turned back to the pod, seeing the door had kept on opening. If the door was open a little, couild they hear her? Maybe. She talked again.

"Listen, You better get out of here now, or I'll get Celestia to pulverize you all!" she said fiercely. She looked at Rainbow Dash, who was staring at the pod as well.

Rain wondered what species these aliens were. They had no cutie mark, and they had two legs and no tails. They didn''t even have a coat of fur! Just......something like fur, but not quite. And it was only on their heads! They wore clothing. Yeah, ponies do that too, but not all the time. These aliens were much too weird!

Momo dreamily looked up at William. Was everything getting darker? Her eyelids felt heavy as her breath slowed considerably. "...What...What do you see out there...?" It took a while for her to finally say that question clear enough for the man to understand her.

Attempting to stand up, Momo propped her hands on the floor and levered herself up. Standing up awkwardly, she felt the wound on her head again, and this time she winced a bit at the sudden burst of screaming pain. Quickly throwing her hand back on the table beside her, she bit her lip and exhaled deeply.

Her blue eyes couldn't see much anymore, and voices were becoming muffled. She blinked a couple of times, and fell to her knees.

Her upper body fell in time. She was knocked out cold from the physchical trauma.

"Don't threaten them!" Methodia shrieked. "I need to understand other intelligent life! I've been studying for so long! No!" She got as close to the window as she could, and half whispered, "Psst, it's okay. If you need somewhere to stay, I can provide lodging..." She paused. She had better reveal her intentions. "Listen. I'm a pony. This is Ponyville. In Equestria. I am Methodia, a scientist. I have been striving to learn about foreign beings. Please, let me observe you." She glanced at this other pony in understanding kindness. Had Methodia not been trying to study these things, she would have reacted coldly as well. She moved closer to this other. "Look. I don't know you, but my name is Methodia. I understand that these strangers are weird looking. But why threaten them? They may be frightened."

[OOC: sorry for being kinda sorta absent]

Rain scoffed. Didn't ever occur to that pony that those aliens could be the threat? Those things were definitely not from Equestria. Rain saw one of the aliens fall. Maybe they weren't bad? It dawned on Rain that maybe they came by accident. But they could have also have came on purpose, trying to post a threat. Whatever the reason was, maybe if the ponyvillians helped the fallen alien, the other aliens wuld do something thankful, like shower tehm with jewlery, or somthing. She didn't know. All she knew was that if you do something good, you get something good. It's called good karma.

She flew up to the pony who was pressing her face against the pod, wanting to know alot about these specimens. "Look, we don't know if they have come for evil intents, good intents, or just stumbled here by accident. The point being, they have a fallen....alien with them, and as citizens of Ponyville, we should heal this injured specimen. If they have come here for evil intents, we stampede on them. It's only fair...err, what's your name again?" She never had the time to learn this....scientist pony's name. As she waited for an answer, she looked about. There was Rainbow Dash talking to a blue coat and blue mane pony with a Lyre for a cutie mark. Maybe they were taing about this event as it unfolded, like every other pony whom Rain had saw also talking.

"I know they could be a threat, but do you wanna take the chance of throwing them out of town when they're innocent?" Methodia's nose twitched briefly. She was good at making presentations in front of several ponies, but not head on. Her fidgeting resulted from a fear that she was unaware of. "If they came by accident, why are half of them knocked out or injured? So let's just neutrally help them until we learn what they plan for us." She fluttered her eyelids. More twitching. More fidgeting. "And it's Methodia."

I'm saying if they harm any pony in anyway, we stampede 'em! And I have no idea why they came here, innocent, guilty, or by accident, But yeah, let's help them. OH, and My name's Rain Chaser" she said.

She looked at rainbow dash. Only talking to that Lyre pony. Rain sighed, as she was getting no attention from her idol. But she and Methodia did get most of the civilians' attentions. Cruel irony, if you ask Rain.

She turned to he pod. "Ok, we'll help your little friend here." she turned to Methodia, "Hey, where's Doctor Whooves? We need him now."

"Alright then. That sounds fair." Methodia found herself strangely comfortable around this... Rain Chaser. Hm, surreal. Methodia's eyes followed Rain Chaser's. "Fascinated with Rainbow, eh?" She couldn't comprehend why so many ponies loved Rainbow Dash. She was much too fast paced. Quite unlike herself.

"They aren't my friends. And I'll say quite blatantly to make sure that we have no secrets that I am being selfish and currently only want to study them," she said loudly, making sure that the creatures could hear. She cocked her head at that last statement. "Doctor Wharves? What?"
