First Battle, hope I'm doing this right...

3vs3 Single
Style: Set
DQ: Standard week
Damage Cap: 30%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, 5 Chills/Pokemon
Arena: The Playground

The Playground is, as its name implies, a playground. In one corner, there is a sandpit that takes up about 1/4 of the whole rectangular area. Ground and Rock type Pokemon get a 5% boost of power in there. Focused in the center, there is a medium-sized structure that has 3 sets of stairs and a mini climbing wall for Pokemon to go up, and there are fire poles, 2 slides, the stairs for you to go down. If your Pokemon are on the structure, they will be able to hide on some of the things on there and increase Defense 1 stage. However, it takes one action to get on the structure and another to get down it. On a side of the playground, there are also swings. However, they are kind of old and worn down. If you decide to go on one, the accuracy of an attack is raised but there is a chance every turn you are on it that you will fall and flinch. Finally, if you are not on anything, you will be on a rubber surface that decreases power of electric attacks by 5%.
Note: Only Baby or Stage 1 Pokemon may battle here. They also must be 5' or shorter and weigh less than 150 lbs.

Re: o_0 vs Flareth

(:P Call me Patrick then. It's my real name *Gasp*)
I'll start out by sending Blaise Pascal out!

Gogogo Riley!

Okay...first, use Swords dance. Then, use Rock slide. Then, earthquake.

Swords Dance~Rock Slide~Earthquake

All right Blaise! Start off with a Will-O-Wisp and burn that Riolu! On your second turn, if you missed on the Will-O-Wisp, I want you to use it again! Otherwise, use a Flamethrower! On your last turn, I want you to get on the playground structure and hide there to increase your defense!

Will-O-Wisp~Flamethrower/Will-O-Wisp~Get on structure

The playground is silent and empty as Byrus hops over the fence, looking around at the wide expanse of rubber flooring. The weather is mostly good, with a bright blue sky filled with wispy clouds, so that's a plus, he thinks. Battling in the rain kinda takes away the fun atomosphere, too bad rain dance is so popular. Whistling, the ref paces up and down as he waits for the battlers to arrive, before freezing suddenly as he sees two stragglers messing around in the sand pit. Child abuse is funny, but getting sued isn't, so Byrus quickly hurries over to shoo them away so they don't get injured in the upcoming battle.
The two kids look up irritably as Byrus approaches the sand pit, glaring down at them. “Didn’t your teacher give you the memo? The TCOD ASB has this place booked for a battle,” he says pompously, waving the piece of paper about.
Looking decidedly unimpressed, the two children nevertheless scurry away, while one of the kids throws a lego brick back at Byrus, hitting him square on the head.
Scowling, the ref turns away, trying to appear nonchalant, only to be greeted by the two battlers. o_O and Flareth stare at him, one with a barely concealed grin and the other with an odd look on his face.

“Wha? Did you teleport here or something?” Byrus mutters, gaze suddenly fixed firmly on the rubber ground. “Uh…. well, doesn’t matter. Hey, emotion dude, you got a nickname? For convenience and all that.”
“Call me Patrick then,” the trainer with the disturbed expression on his face says. Flareth looks at him curiously, hoping that he isn’t wearing that expression because of something she did….
Byrus nods (How does he do that expression?), then takes his place at the edge of the playground. “All right, you send out first.”

Glad to get his first battle started, Patrick takes a Pokéball and throws it onto the ground. Blaise Pascal the Charmander appears in a burst of white light, stretching out his limbs as he prepares for battle. The little orange lizard blinks curiously, taking in his surroundings, before tensing, his tail flame flaring up and crackling merrily.
After a moment of thought, Flareth follows up with her pick: Riley the Riolu. As the fighting canine materializes, he utters a few eager barks, while enthusiastically punching the air and bouncing around.

Round one

As his over eager opponent continues bouncing about, Blaise Pascal takes a deep breath and opens his jaws, where a flickering orb of blue fire flares into life. When the ghostly blue fire begins spill out of his jaws in thin streams of sparks, Blaise spits it out in Riley’s general direction. The will-o-wisp hovers for a moment, almost as if wondering what direction it ought to go in, before zooming about drunkenly.
Riley holds still for a moment as he takes in the surreal sight of the phantom fire weaving around erratically, wisps of shimmering flames trailing behind it.
As Riley backs away, the fire darts forward sharply, bombing down to the left side of the Riolu and vanishing in a flash of blue flames, leaving a sooty patch in its wake. Blaise grits his fangs in annoyance at the miss, while Riley cheerfully yips in relief before acting on his own command.
Riley abruptly begins to dance, whirling about wildly, limbs flailing as he pounds along to the well known war-dance. Although the Riolu’s steps are in sync with his own mental rhythm, Blaise just scoffs at Riley’s crazy jig, turning his gaze away before the blue blur makes him dizzy.
Crazy or not, the dance is effective enough, Riley is even more pepped as he comes to a sudden halt. Uttering a few loud barks, Riley holds up his fists, doing some more air punching.

Blaise’s tail swishes in annoyance as he opens his jaws again, white fangs glinting. Determined not to miss this time, Blaise spits out another orb of blue phantom fire. Riley eyes the orb without much fear, the last one wasn’t impressive, so he doesn’t expect much from this one. Unfortunately, Riley’s luck doesn’t hold this time--the ethereal comet streams downwards, striking him on his left arm.
Yelping, Riley desperately waves his arm about, batting out the flames with his right, and hopping from foot to foot. Blaise snickers at the comical sight, glad to have wiped the smirk off his opponent’s face.
When he catches sight of the jeering Charmander, Riley takes a deep breath and forces himself to calm down, before inspecting his arm. The fur is blackened, while the flesh underneath is raw and tender. Grimacing, Riley quickly averts his gaze. A minor inconvenience is all it is, and he’s sure he can manage it.
Speaking of inconveniences, Riley has another one. His trainer has ordered him to use rock slide, an attack he’s familiar with of course… Except there’s no rocks handy. Not wanting to give up so easy, Riley hastily scans the arena, peering at the sandpit, the climbing structure…. Without so much as a pebble in sight, he’s forced to give up on that particular order.

Feeling a tad more confident, Blaise hastily runs towards the climbing structure. The first missed attack didn’t seem to have cost him, no point staying mad over it.
His opponent seems pretty passive for the moment, Blaise has no idea what he was looking for, but whatever it was, he didn’t seem to find it. Gripping onto the climbing wall with hooked claws, Blaise hauls himself up, sneaking a few glances back at Riley over his shoulder. The wall isn’t too high, so he doesn’t have much problems reaching the top, where he ducks down behind one of the barriers on the structure, with only the top of his head visible as he peeps over it.
Annoyed at missing his chance to attack, Riley keeps an eye on the orange speck before stomping harshly on the ground. The muffled impact of his stomp on the rubber ground isn’t impressive, but Riley continues to stomp undeterred, seeking a fault line. The floor makes it difficult, but Riley eventually manages. A low rumble is heard as the ground begins to shake, jolting the sandpit and the climbing frame, though not really having much impact on the rubber surface. Blaise quickly digs his claws into the frame, hanging on tight. The little lizard is shaken about by the quake, and flung around about like a rag doll as he struggles to get a grip again. When the tremors fade, Blaise staggers to his feet, gripping onto the railing for balance.
Meanwhile, Riley stands on tip-toes in an attempt to spot his opponent, irritably rubbing his burnt skin. Hoping any climbing he might have to do won't agitate it, Riley keeps his fists up and his eyes on the orange speck.

You're a good writer Byrus :D
OK Blaise. First, use a Smokescreen and cover up the entire place! Next, while its smoky, jump down from the platform. If Riley managed to hit you during the Smokescreen, use Toxic. If he didn't get you, use an Aerial Ace!

Round two

Taking a deep breath in preparation for his next move, Blaise risks a quick peek over the top of the structure to see what his opponent is up to. Riley, apparently undeterred by his burnt arm, is springing about, not paying much attention to his opponent for the moment. When Blaise ducks down again, thick streams of smoke pour from his jaws as he softly exhales, spraying the pitch black smog over as much area as he can. As the Charmander breathes out the last of the tarry smoke, he backs away, looking satisfied.
Riley, meanwhile, makes a headlong dash around the playground in a sharp arc, his form blurring as he moves. The blue blur splits up into two more Riolu, who mimic their creator’s movements with uncanny accuracy. When he sees the two clones tagging behind, Riley skids to a stop and faces his opponent… Or rather where his opponent was. Frowning and squinting, Riley struggles to see through the pitch blackness, but at most he can only catch a glimpse of an orange speck. Growing a bit worried, Riley keeps his fists up, shuffling about in agitation.

Peering through his cover of smoke, Blaise edges toward the stairs, paws held out in front of him. Tapping the ground and feeling his surroundings carefully, Blaise quickly reaches the edge of the structure, and begins to move downwards, keeping a firm grip on the railings of the stairs while taking one step at a time.
Riley moves a bit closer to the climbing structure, head cocked as he continues straining his eyes to see in the inky blackness. Still looking for another glimpse of the orange speck, Riley holds up his paws, and taps into the elemental power of the arena. The air and atmosphere of the playground seems to grow indescribably odd for a moment as a bright orb of pure white forms in Riley’s paws. Thrusting both paws outwards, Riley sends the ball of light streaming towards the cover of smog in a straight beam. The beam cuts through the smoke with a distinct whooshing sound, thinning out the cover slightly. A metallic thunk sounds out as it strikes a frame, and Blaise looks back curiously, before simply hopping down from the structure and out of the thickest part of the smokescreen.
Riley scowls as he sees the Charmander looking fairly unfazed, but at least he has a better view now. The wisps of smoke are annoying, but they don't require too much squinting, and he keeps his gaze fixed firmly on the fire lizard.

Blaise warily inspects the new additions to the battlefield, trying to spot any differences. The double team clones are pretty convincing though, so, with a shrug, Blaise picks a target. Digging his claws into the rubber floor, he tenses, before abruptly darting forward with surprising speed. Riley isn’t left to dwell on his miss for long, as the Charmander barrels into him, delivering with vicious blow of his claw.
However, the Riley he strikes immediately vanishes into nothing upon being struck, and Blaise rapidly scrabbles at the rubber floor to gain his balance again, lest he crash down in a heap from the momentum.
When he gains his balance again, Blaise shoots an icy glance at the two remaining Rileys, who simply look back haughtily. With a deep sigh, Riley closes his eyes, then begins focusing on the seldom used power within himself, and as he focuses, bright, swirling orbs begin to circle around him. The orbs glow with an ethereal white light before flickering rapidly, going through a dazzling array of colours then finally settling on pitch black.
When the colours settle, Riley spreads out his arms, unleashing the black orbs at Blaise in a rapid barrage. Blaise quickly holds up his arms in defense as the bizarre lights barrel towards him, uttering a pained grunt as they slam into his stomach with a burst of black.

Round three

Taking off in a sprint, Riley heads straight for the climbing frame, making a mental note to not put too much pressure on his burnt arm.
Blaise looks after him, his body tensing, looking at both of the Riolu in turn, before making a hasty decision and hoping he gets lucky. With his claws poised, the Charmander leaps forward with surprising speed at his retreating opponent.
Riley’s ears prick up from the thump of Blaise jumping, and turns around in time to see the lizard barrelling towards him. However, before he can even think of dodging, Blaise strikes, landing a vicious strike with his claws before landing back down on the ground with a lack of grace, almost tripping over his tail.
Riley yelps in pain, tumbling head over heels from the sudden impact. His clone has no chance to mimic his fall, it immediately vanishes as soon as Riley is struck, leaving nothing behind in its wake.
Annoyed at being knocked down a few notches, Riley scowls, clambering quickly to his feet as he rubs his back. Trying to ignore the burning pain of the scratch on his back, he quickly heads on his way. When he reaches the structure, he hauls himself up, his progress hampered a little by his tender burned arm. Squinting through the cloud of smoke is a pain, but luckily; the smog is steadily beginning to thin out, only a couple of patches here and there are obscured by the inky blackness. The Riolu limply grips the notch on the wall with his bad arm, applying most the pressure to his good arm. However, as with most fighting Pokémon, Riley is by no means out of shape, and he quickly manages to clamber to the top despite the inconvenience.

As Riley temporarily disappears behind the barrier on the structure, Blaise turns away for the moment and faces the sky.
Holding his paws out, Blaise breathes out a light, almost transparent runner of fire, which streams upwards, rapidly vanishing into the clear blue sky. Almost immediately, the puffy clouds begin to thin out, and the sunlight begins to noticeably grow brighter, while the temperature in the playground rises; leaving the two trainers and the ref sweating uncomfortably.
Riley is also left feeling hot and bothered from the sun beating down on him. The smokescreen has faded away, merely leaving tiny wisps of smoke. Fanning away the last wisps and squinting in the harsh light, the Riolu peers down at his opponent--who is the only one apparently unfazed by the heat. The Charmander seems to embrace it in fact, as he raises his head towards the sun, basking in the hot weather.

Growling, Riley tries to ignore the smug lizard as he thinks carefully about his next command. He can’t reach Blaise Pascal with a close range attack from here, so he’s going to have to see if he can work around it without wasting too much time.
With a bit of reluctance, Riley scrambles up on the barrier, balancing precariously, before managing to hold on with one paw, using his tail to even his balance a bit. Blaise sees Riley move out of the corner of his eye, and he spares him a puzzled glance when he sees him standing on the edge of the barrier, keeping a shaky grip with his bad arm, and with his good arm raised up. The pressure on his burnt arm is painful, but Riley struggles to bear it.
Hoping he made the right choice, Riley gathers up negative spectral energy, channelling the spectral essence to his raised fist, which it engulfs in an ethereal shroud of purple and black. Then, he abruptly takes a leap of faith, diving at Blaise with his claws at the ready. The Charmander looks at the flying Riolu with wide eyes, and by the time he gets his wits about him, Riley has already struck. He delivers a sharp slash across Blaise’s chest, while the phantom energy sizzles across the flesh in a flash of black. Blaise staggers backwards, landing painfully on his back from the force behind the slash. Black, spectral energy drips from the wound on his chest, and the Charmander hastily wipes it away, looking flustered by the ugly gashes.
Riley tumbles head over heels as he loses control of his momentum, landing to a painful halt on his burnt arm. Groaning, the Riolu awkwardly pushes himself up with one hand just as Blaise Pascal staggers upright next to him.

Riley gingerly rubs his burnt arm, which is now throbbing painfully. The tender flesh has begun weeping from all the pressure put on it, and Riley wipes it away with a look of disgust. As he’s tending to the wound, Blaise takes his chance.

Ignoring his pounding head (lucky the floor is pretty soft), the Charmander crouches down, poised to tackle. Flames crackle and dance around his body, before roaring to life in a living cloak of fireworks. The raging furnace of fire seems to draw even more strength from the sun; as the flames lick upwards, reaching towards the sky.
Jumping from the sudden noise, Riley snaps to attention; but it’s too little too late. Now resembling a living comet, Blaise charges into Riley with brutal force, driving the unfortunate Riolu into the set of stairs in the climbing frame from the sheer force.
A resounding clang sounds throughout the playground, and when the blazing fire and smoke clears, a fairly impressive dent is visible in the structure. Also among the wisps of slowly clearing smoke are two very dazed Pokémon, though Riley is even more worse for wear than Blaise Pascal—who gets to his feet first. The Charmander takes a long, unsteady step forwards, holding his head and teetering drunkenly, before regaining his balance, still rubbing his sore head with a grimace. The impact causes the dull pain from the scratches on his chest to flare back up, causing the Charmander to double over before he can fully right himself.
Riley follows suit at a much lesser pace, holding his burnt arm and wincing. His whole body is aching with scorches from the intense heat, his back is burning with a white-hot pain from the impact with the climbing structure… and quite frankly he doesn’t feel one bit happy with his next command. Groaning, the Riolu forces a smile, but the overall result is a tad maniacal. Blaise utters a comical yelp as Riley suddenly delivers a swift smack across the back of his head, however, his lack luster effort doesn’t do much to faze the fire lizard, much to Riley’s displeasure.

Arena notes

There is a Riolu sized dent on the stairs on the climbing structure, leaving a couple of steps damaged and rickety but not unclimbable.
The sky is clearer than ever, with only a few wispy white clouds left. Harsh sunlight is beating down on the arena, to last four more actions.

Battle notes

- Yeah, so... bit of grey area reffing here. Riley could not reach Blaise with a close range attack from the top, and would have had to use up an action to go down; hence he jumped. Added some extra damage for the momentum, though he also recieved some recoil.
- Just experimenting with the layout of my reffings. I have no idea how this piece of writing turned out so long.
- Sorry for the delay, i got the longest part of my coursework finished, so hopefully i should have more time on my hands now.
