On Clarinets!

I have a 4th grade clarinet exam this June, and for like 3 months I, my music teacher, and my Mum have been searching for an accompanist (someone to play the piano while I'm playing my clarinet [it's necessary]).
Anyway, one week ago, I was hanging out with friends I hadn't seen in a while, and I just said 'I've had trouble finding an accompanist' and one of my friends said 'I'll do it!'
And so, I have an accompanist, and it's one of my best friends! Double bonus!
So yes, I am happy now :)

Good luck! If you've had three months to practice, you should steamroll the exam. :D

If this is the Clarinet General Thread, might as well share the (mixed) news about my own clarinet! The shop said they already fixed it, and I can pick it up tomorrow (which is pretty impressive seeing as I only brought it in on Tuesday afternoon)! The downside is that it cost £90... apparently they had to take all the metalwork out. Ah well, I've had it for over seven years now and this is the first time I've ever had to get it repaired.

Thanks! Yep, and each week I'm getting the slightest bit better at playing the pieces, so I reckon the exam shouldn't be too difficult. I just hope I don't get too nervous and blow it!

Wow that is awesomely fast! Good for you! :D
I've had my current clarinet for about 2 years now, my old 'clarinet'... well, yesterday I thought in my head it's more 'a thing that can't hit a single note in tune and now for me it's a squeak machine!' Yeah, it really was that bad. Mum and Dad decided to get me a decent clarinet since it was obvious that I was going to follow music as hopefully a life-long career, so yeah, it's all good :D

Ooh, what are you playing for it?

For my set lists I am playing;

Siciliano - Iwan Müller
Theme And Variations (from trio Op. 11) - Ludwig van Beethoven (arr. by Helen Stowasser)
The Oily Rag - Richard Percival

And then my two extra pieces are going to be;

Ave Maria - Franz Peter Schubert
Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring - Johan Sebastian Bach

Except for Siciliano and Ave Maria, they are all rather difficult, actually. For the two others in my set list it's more the fact of getting my fingering right (in Theme and Variations there's a really fast bit which I can almost play correctly but not quiet yet) and then in Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring, it's more the fact of breathing! I have to take really deep breath and try to last for something like 3-4 lines of music, but once again, I am getting there! So hopefully by the time the exam comes round, I'll be able to play the pieces really well :)

In other news, I had a performance with my concert band yesterday and that went awesome! A friend came down to play, and he was sight reading (he plays trumpet) and he is just like totally awesome at it! He also has perfect pitch, so he became our band's 'personal tuner' or something yesterday :P (he has now become my 'role model' in music)
So apart from a few stupid mistakes, and my inability to play one piece cause it's tricky and I've never practised, the performance went well :)
