• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Posting is werid

Every reply I make (not exaggerating - every reply, even if it's my first post of the day) it comes up saying "you must wait 20 seconds between posting, please wait x seconds until making your post" (not those exact words, but same meaning) and I'm still on the post a message page with my message in the box. One of two things may have happened before I attempt to post the post again:

Either 1) it posted anyway, and I see the post if I scroll down to see the thread history, or 2) it didn't and it's become an invisible post, not visible anywhere in thread history or on the actual thread itself.

In scenario 1 I just close the message screen because it posted as I wanted it to. It's a little weird that it asks me to wait even though it posted anyway, but I got what I was after.

In scenario 2, however, the only way I can make that invisible post visible again is to press send again, which means that not only does the invisible post become visible, but I also have a duplicate underneath that needs to be deleted.

This problem isn't really a major issue during times when the forum is quick because I can fix it. But during times when the forum is slow it can get very tiresome and tedious and one simple post can take a long time in scenario 2, and sometimes on rare occasions I can lose a post entirely meaning I have had to take precautionary measures recently, such as saving the post on my computer before sending it.

Anyone know what this problem may be?

So, I assume that not only am I the only person here who experiences this, but also none of the staff have anything to say about it?

Sorry if this has already been mentioned before but as I said, I have done a thorough search and can't find anything about it on any part of these forums.

This happens to me occasionally, and its a little annoying when it does happen.

It's always a good idea to copy any long posts before submitting them. Then you can always paste and re-post.

I don't think this exact problem happens to too many people, but it's probably related to the general issues with 500 errors that do hit people every now and then. There really isn't anything any of us can do about it, save for Butterfree's recent experiments with reducing server stress, and those seem to have fixed at least some of the 500 errors. In the mean time, yes, get into the habit of copying longer posts, and also try using the full reply screen rather than quick reply—quick reply seems to throw more errors than regular reply does.

Is it still happening every time, or just occasionally?

It's only very occasionally when it doesn't do it. Most of the time, almost all of the time, it's still doing it.

Strange, how come it doesn't affect most people as much as that? My internet connection is pretty good. Could the time of day have anything to do with how frequently it happens?

sorry, I usually have this forum scrolled up so I didn't see this thread, but this happens to me a lot too.

Pretty much what they said, just copy/paste longer posts and hit send twice.

I think it's because it tries to post it twice. Normally, for me, it will have already posted it, and the "20 seconds" message is just the result of the second attempt, the first one having gone through. I usually just ignore it.
