Novelux Realgar Springs

They were really going to do this? Well, okay! The Dewott pulled his bandanna up over his muzzle, to at least attempt to minimize the amount of powder he might be about to breathe in.

“You got this, Gladion,” he said, shooting the Graydian a thumbs up since he couldn’t exactly smile at the chimera.

The resulting Tailwind ended up scattering the powdered realgar into the air, dyeing everyone nearby in a vivid shade of read and... not much else.

Hawlucha could only rub the bridge of her beak – clearly annoyed at the waste of time this was – before shouting to everyone clear the area, Wayfarers included. With only a couple mutters between Clive and Jaak, it seemed that this was an investigative dead end for now. Hopefully a better clue on Team Miror's whereabouts would show itself.

In the meantime, more pertinent things to worry about in Novelux would capture the Wayfarers' attention.

Ch07: Miror B.'s New Groove New
"They appear to be late risers, so strike early. I'm certain it will catch them off their guard," said Bellatrix when reporting her findings on Miror B.'s camp.

So, at the zoroark's behest, the Wayfarers were enroute to Team Miror's camp early in the morning, the sun barely peaking over the horizon. Luckily, it had been a straightforward journey with little distractions, giving the group ample time to shake off their grogginess and prepare for the inevitable fight ahead. Once their destination was reached, Bellatrix left the group to their own devices as she had other matters to attend to, allowing the remaining group to come up with their own strategies and plan of attack. Decisions that would be made beneath the watchful eye of several murkrow who'd been roosting nearby.

Getting a good look at the campsite, the Wayfarers would quickly realise that Team Miror had managed to claim quite a large area that encompassed a forest edge, its nearby clearings and a few rocky outcrops that connected to the nearby mines. At the base of these rough mounds were three tents, one being much larger than the other two; a hoard of supplies laid within this large tent, though it was difficult to discern any further specifics at the angle of approach. And at the centre of it all was a large rock with a flattop which could be used as a makeshift stage, making it apparent as to why this location was chosen as the dancing Cipher admin's main camp beyond the ample amounts of natural cover.

Looking further beyond the rock and fields, there was a large pool of surface runoff from the realgar mines. The water appeared to be closer to mud in consistency and its ruddy surface tarnished in the morning light – which seemed to be a little brighter there compared to the rest of the camp, likely due to the lack of shade. More importantly however, was the unconscious ninetales strewn across a rock close to the centre of the deep, red puddle. He looked to be in very poor shape after being at the mercy of the quaquaval and his posse, his sliver fur, which would have gleamed beautifully in the sunlight, was caked in mud and deeply stained by the realgar.

There seemed to be no sign of Team Miror, giving the Wayfarers an opportunity to approach. Were they still sleeping in their tents?

"This would have been an amazing time to develop a stink bomb," Mhynt hummed to herself, keeping her voice low. "Unfortunately, my natural scent is the opposite. A shame."

She glanced at the others. "If there's ever a need for Teleporting, I'm here to facilitate."

For a moment, Gladion was unsure whether the red marring the Ninetales was realgar or caked blood. Fortunately, there was plenty of the former around, so he was gonna be optimistic and call it realgar. For now... "Might wanna grab that Ninetales and teleport them outta here. They don't look so good, so we probably don't want them in the middle of the fight."

He scanned the camp back and forth, looking for signs of activity. "If we're worried it's a trap, I can head in first. I can take a few hits."

Bellatrix had been confident Team Miror would be sleeping in, which sounded about right for these clowns, but Leaf still had her ears on a swivel. She still wasn't over how they'd been tailed before. Somehow. By these guys. They were idiots, but they were persistent idiots. Or lucky ones, at the very least. She wanted to just trample all over their stupid tents so frickin' bad, but... They're dangerous. You know they are. I don't want them to— you can't afford to let them get the jump on you. If you "have" to do this, at least think first. What do you know about them? What can you use against them?

"Lemme try a thing," Leaf muttered. "Might give Mhynt some cover to teleport in, too." If it even worked. Had to try something, though. Worst case scenario nothing happened, Gladion could do what he wanted, and Mhynt was fast enough she wouldn't need the extra distraction much. Or Leaf could just stomp in and trash their camp anyway.

As soon as it looked like the grovyle was ready, she swung her head in the direction of the camp. Glittering, sparkling, definitely-real-and-valuable-and-unguarded-and-not-going-to-disappear-in-a-couple-minutes-so-you-should-absolutely-stuff-your-pockets(-morons) golden coins arced from the tip of her horn and scattered as close to the openings of the tents as she could toss them.

He nodded to Gladion in agreement. Whoever that Ninetales was, keeping him out of the fight sounded like a good idea.

"If that Miror guy shows up I'll try to get him with electric attacks." Given how the last clash had gone, Koa felt personally compelled to get involved in the 'rematch'. These guys were Cipher, and that meant they were a problem. It'd be nice to get the jump on them this time.

Except he didn't see any of them around. Still sleeping? Leaf's idea to lure them out seemed sound enough. He sniffed the air, trying to detect if there were any recent scents of the Cipher goons in the area, and kept his ears pricked.

"Understood," Mhynt said, already focused on finding a way to best evacuate that Ninetales. The hard part about Teleport was earning the consent of a panicked individual, and Mhynt wasn't the most comforting person to meet...

"...Well, I'll figure something out. Maybe I can hug him first."

As the Wayfarers discussed what to do, they could hear the sound of something shifting in one of the tents, then some lethargic mumbling. A zangoose's head poked out from beneath the flap and those who had went to the Timeless Oasis expedition would immediately recognise it to be Reath. Her ears flicked, trying to find the source of the beauty-sleep-interrupting chatter but her eyes were quick to settle on the fake golden coins. Her search was immediately forgotten as she exclaimed, "Rich! I'm rich! Suck it, Ferma!"

While this would culminate in the rest of Team Miror waking up, it was enough of a distraction for Mhynt to teleport into the realgar runoff to spirit Ninetales away. Luckily for Mhynt, Ninetales was out cold so no hugging would be necessary to successfully take him a safe distance away.

Leaf's Interact! Reath is distracted by the Fool's Gold! Mhynt is free to Interact!
Mhynt's Interact! Ninetales is safely teleported off the field!

But the moment Mhynt returned, right on cue, the sound of panicked scrambling broke out from the campsite followed by a thick plume of smoke heading the Wayfarers' way, obscuring their vision. A couple loud claps run through the air followed by a—

"Positions everyone! Positions!" In what was unmistakably, Miror B.'s voice.

Enemy Phase, Turn 0

The smoke cleared and when it did, Team Miror had scattered themselves across the campgrounds with the main duck himself grooving along to his own rhythm on the stage-like rock. All except Reath, who was still scrambling to collect the coins around the tents, too distracted to do anything but nod along to Miror B.'s groove.

"Trying to catch me off my groove, are you?" hissed the quaquaval. Then, with a flamboyant wave of an arm-like wing he let out a small chuckle. "Darlings, you should know by now that the only beat I dance to is my own! Can't you hear it?"

Miror B's Jammin'! Miror B. started Jammin'! +1 Spd, +1 Eva!
Reath started Jammin'! +1 Spd, +1 Eva!
Ferma started Jammin'! +1 Spd, +1 Eva!
Trudly started Jammin'! +1 Spd, +1 Eva!

Miror B. ate his Violent Seed! +1 Atk, +1 Mag!
Ferma and Folly used their Healthy Orbs!
Trudly ate his Cautious Seed! +1 Def, +1 Res!
Reath is too distracted to do anything!

Several affirming grunts from his peons rung out in reply, shaking them out of their groggy stupors.

It was time to dance.

This was it, then. This time would be different from when they had to flee with the Relic. This time they would win. They simply had to. Archie drew his scalchops, summoned his Razor Shells, and felt the cloying darkness awakening within him once again. Felt it spread through his system. He focused, the Dewott was in control this time. Then he launched himself forward.

Leaving afterimages in his wake, Archie dodged past Ferma and launched himself at the dancing duck on the stage. Two quick slashes to interrupt Miror B.’s grove, then he leapt to the side and out of the way for Koa and Leaf to follow up.

Adrenaline flooded Koa as the Cipher thugs began to waken.

"You wanna dance?" He howled out a battlecry, then charged the platform, straight for the arrogant water-type. The familiar buzz of electricity responded to his call, cloaking his fists and he lunged for him.

With a practiced motion, he withdrew the orb and slammed it on the ground, relishing in the imapct and burst of electrical energy that followed.

It surged through him, strengthening him further. His teeth flashed as he grinned.

Thuder reverberated in his voice. "Let's dance!"

It'd worked. It shouldn't have worked, some terrifying criminal organization should not have lieutenants that were as gullible as that pack of jabbery little impidimp, but here they were.

Leaf couldn't enjoy/roll her eyes at the sight of the zangoose greedily scrabbling at fake money for long, not with the smoke bomb that went off—guess they'd beat Mhynt to the idea—but fine, no problem, they had work to do. She made a flying leap onto the platform where Miror Birdbrain was dancing to literally nothing aside from the sound of his own beak flapping.

"Hey, you! It's Minor B., right? Remember us?"

Too many people. She couldn't properly get in to help someone just yet. Instead, she had to give these goons a thing or two to think about...

"Okay. Then let's get going," Mhynt muttered. "You want to dance, you... fruit salad fowl? Then let's dance."

She vanished. Soon after, pools of toxic miasma appeared on the dance floor...

Hex @ Miror B -- Toxic!

Gladion approached the serpent, not looking particularly empassioned by Miror B’s declaration of artistic independence. The Arbok’s type was a hazard, so he’d have to keep her from his allies.

Preempting an attempt to poison him, he channeled acrid memories. (Formal balls came to mind... It’d have to do. )

“May I have this dance?” Gladion joked as he shot her a look. He figured his dispassionate, sardonic tone would carry cleanly enough that she wouldn’t take it seriously. “We’ve, taken on average, the correct amount of left feet.”

Player Phase, Turn 1

Without any further words, the battle had begun, the Wayfarers opening with a unified assault that would be able to throw off even the most focused and coordinated of foes.

Archie used SHADOW Swords Dance! +2 Atk!
Archie's used Double Team! +1 Eva!
Archie's AGILE Razor Shell dealt 24 damage to Miror B!
Archie's Razor Shell dealt 31 damage to Miror B!

Koa's Terrain Orb set Electric Terrain!
Koa used Howl with Leaf! +1 Atk!
Koa used Charge! +1 Res!
Koa's STRONG Thunder Punch dealt 131 damage to Miror B! It's super effective!

Leaf used Bulk Up! +1 Atk, +1 Def!
Leaf's AGILE Pay Day dealt 13 damage to Miror B!
Leaf's Pay Day dealt 16 damage to Miror B!
Leaf's Zen Headbutt dealt 60 damage to Miror B! It's super effective!
Leaf's Tenacious Soul dealt a CRITICAL 62 damage to Miror B! It's super effective!

Expectedly, Miror B. was at the centre of it all, but his response to the Wayfarer's strikes was an invigorated grin that seemed to scream 'is that the best you've got?'

Gladion used Soul's Volition to become Poison Type! +1 Acc, +1 Eva!
Gladion's Mean Look Trapped Ferma!
Gladion's Spotter Feat! Ferma's items—

Cautious Seed
Tired Seed
Gladion's Bite dealt 8 damage to Ferma!

Ferma hissed in response to Gladion. "Y'know you ain't ever gonna get under my skin more than fluff-for-brains over there," she said, pointing her bladed tail in Reath's direction. The instinctual rivalry between the two seemed to run very deep. "So stop tryin', 'cause your best can't even dent me!

"Hey you!" she then yelled at the zangoose. "Stop your gold shower and focus!"

Astrid's Spotter Aux! Miror B.'s items—
Escape Orb
Quick Seed
Blinker Seed
Stun Seed

Mhynt's Rogue Aux Badly Poisoned Miror B.!

The murkrow were watching the strikes carefully. Their eyes all narrowed at the same time as they studied the Wayfarers' moves closely. What were they looking for? A weakness? An opening? Something that the Wayfarers would need to consider later as Team Miror were about to respond to the onslaught with their own flurry of strikes.

Enemy Phase, Turn 1

"Ugh! Can't I have a moment without you in my ear!" Reath shot back but her dour expression was enough to show her real answer: Fine but if I catch you stealing my gold, I'm gonna make you regret it. She looked towards the nearest unattended Wayfarer, that dewott, and tried to pounce with a powerful claw swipe...

Reath walked to Craggy Slope!
Reath's Swords Dance!
Reath's Slash dealt a CRITICAL 0 damage to Archie! Dodged!
Reath used Protect!

Fortunately for Archie, it seemed that Reath still had the fake gold on her mind as she looked back to see if it was still there mid-swipe, causing her to whiff her blow entirely. When she realised this, she huffed and took on a more defensive position.

Ferma rolled her eyes. "Idiot," she mumbled, then, to Gladion, she rolled her eyes. "Whatever, fine, I'll humour your dumb metaphor for now. You can dance, and I can sing."

Ferma used a Cautious Seed! +1 Def, +1 Res!
Ferma's used Screech on Gladion! Dodged!
Ferma's Giga Drain dealt 13 damage to Gladion! It's not very effective...

And the Seviper let out an ear grating, high, pitched wail that would have cowed anybody, though her heart didn't seem to be in it. She looked bored while doing it, the absurdity of which making the sound more tolerable. But while Gladion was distracted, Ferma lunged in for a pretty weak, bite on his flank.

Meanwhile, Miror B. tittered, then snapped his feathery fingers. "Well, it seems that the centre stage has gotten rather crowded. Oh, boys! Would you be so kind as to help these ruffians off the premises?"

Nods from the magmar and electabuzz followed and they struck with their own range of attacks.

Trudly Focused...
Trudly dashed to Forest Clearing!

Folly's Swift dealt 9 damage to Leaf's Shield!

"Those guys are tough," Trudly muttered.

"Can't climb up there either. Wanna focus on Freakshow over there?" Folly asked.

"Sounds good to me," answered Trudly.

"Well, aren't you two having fun?" asked Miror B to the two kids that were sharing his stage. "But I'm just warming up! Let's see what happens when I turn up the tempo!"

Miror B walked to Rugged Cliffside!
Boss Attack: Miror B is preparing Aqua Step.
Target: Rugged Cliffside

The quaquaval made several dance moves, flipping and splitting in the electrified air. Then, he descended upon the electrike that held quite the literal punch. Leaving him unattended for long would cause quite a few problems, so he backflipped off the stage onto a particularly rugged part of the campsite, water building around his feet with each rhythmic step. It seemed that Miror B. was more focused on slowing down and exhausting his foes to make them easy for him and the rest of his team to descend upon them.

Ferma's Shed Skin removed her ailment!
Koa and Leaf seem to be drawing the most attention!

As both groups scattered around the battlefield, the zangoose decided that she would be the one to dance with Archie. But, her heart clearly wasn’t in it, it didn’t take more than a half step backwards for her swipe to completely whiff. She wasn’t even bothering to look his way. Honestly, Archie was almost insulted!

“What’s wrong, still feeling a little sluggish from when I put you and your friend on ice?” He taunted with a grin. The Dewot called the shadow to him again, switching out one of his scalchop’s blue Razor Shell blade for the orange Sacred Sword, the blade turning tarnished and rust colored, thick with cloying shadow. “No matter, I’ll go find a dance partner with a little more pep in their step!”

He slashed forward with his Sacred Sword, and then made good his promise. Gladion was contending with a three on one situation, but he doubted the Graydian strictly needed his help. Besides, they’d knocked Miror B. off his little perch, seemed like as good an opportunity as any to keep up the pressure. The Dewott made for the bird.

Switching his Sacred Sword back into a Razor Shell, the Shadow dispelled from the blade but now running through his system, the Dewott slashed twice at the dancing duck, then took off again. He’d gotten away with this hit and run tactic once before, but who knew if the Cipher admin would be as willing to let him get away with It again. So he pulled the Protect Orb from his coat pocket and set it off, as a bit of added insurance.

Shaking off the water from his pelt, he snarled. "That all you got? I've seen Slowpoke dance better!"

If the dumb bird wanted to retreat, that was fine by Koa. Electricity was his to command here, his ally and his weapon. Pulling it up from the ground and tugging on his inner spark, he let it cloak his body and pool in his paws as he gave chase.

"Let's see you dance your way out of this." He'd fine tuned it with practice, taught himself how to deliver just the right jolt of electricity to slow an opponent down. And he was eager to make this featherbrain feel it.

Huh. "Minor B." didn't get a rise out of him? Leaf had thought that was pretty good. She was almost impressed, except that probably he was less actually focused on the task at hand and more just extra full of himself. (Blue probably could've gotten to him. Maybe she just wasn't shouty enough. Hard to beat his particular talent for being shouty.)

"Aw, where're you going? Afraid of getting upstaged?" She bounded after him, smashed into him, tossed her head a little so the trail of golden sparkles from the aftermath of the pay day glittered around her mane. "I know the bad hair day must be awful for your self-esteem, but try a little harder to keep up, yeah?"

"Hey, I'm just playing along with Miror's dumb—"

Gladion found himself interrupted by Ferma's screech, pulling him into the battle properly.

Wanna focus on Freakshow over there?

"Freakshow?" Gladion glowered at Folly and fired a paralytic ray at Trudly's head. That was all he allowed himself before wrenching back his self-control. "What, you two just naturally drawn to circus exhibits? Would explain why you're following that guy."

He pulled up a Protect to buy a moment away from those two's blows, to call out to Ferma.

"Honestly, you strike me as remarkably sane for this group. Ein's been getting off pretty easy for cooperating with us, and he's got a hell of a rap sheet. What I'm saying is, if you wanna go off the cliff in this clown car side-by-side with the rodent, be my guest, but if you want an out we can get you one."
