Tales of VS (Versus)

Yeah, this is old news... It was formally announced on April 1st along with the Tales of Vesperia PS3 enhanced port, and Tales of Graces for the Wii (To be released this year in that order). It's currently set to be released in Japan on August 6th of 2009. Don't know about an overseas release yet, but Namco at least seems to be interested.

But in all seriousness, it's about time we get a Tales fighting game. It's almost like Namco Bandai took a look at fan games like Exceed Force, Infinity in Battle 2nd, and Phantasia vs Destiny

I personally would've preferred a more traditional 2D fighter, but seeing as though BlazBlue and The King of Fighters XII both come out in the summer, I shouldn't complain...

This is the latest Tales Escort title. It's taking a bunch of Tales characters, and pitting them all in a big fight, basically. I'd explain the story, but I don't really feel like explaining that the story is just a tournament that nobody knows the point of right now. The game is has environments you can interact with, Hi-Ougi (Also called Mystic Artes, or what have you).

The game is supposed to have 35 characters total (Kicking Dissidia's measly 22 in the ass with its KOF level of roster size.), all covering each Mothership title up to Hearts, but only 20 have been announced to actually appear in the game so far.

They are; Cless and Arche from Phantasia, Stan, Lion, Kongman, and Philia from Destiny, Nanaly from Destiny 2, Kratos, Lloyd, and Colette from Symphonia, Mao from Rebirth, Luke, Asch, Jade, and Anise from Abyss, Ruca from Innocence, Yuri and Judith from Vesperia, Shing from Hearts, and, surprisingly, Richter from Dawn of the New World.

I'm really hoping Tytree from Rebirth makes it in. And, for some reason or another, they haven't announced any Legendia, or Eternia characters... Well, I'm sure we'll see some soon...

Anyways, anyone interested willing to discuss?

Ohh, awesome! I had heard of this but I didn't know what it was... A fighting game, huh. What system is it on, do you know?

I've been keeping a close eye on this over at Abyssal Chronicles. They just released a bunch of character profile information. <3

What I'm most curious about, though, is how the mages will figure into the character tiers. I mean, it makes sense to have the brawlers and the swordsmen duke it out, but Tales spellcasters are easily interrupted (... well, I know you can get rid of that in Abyss with the right AD skill, but...) and aren't typically good at taking damage. The only mage I can see keeping up in close combat is Jade, because he has a few strike artes with his spear. But Arche and the rest? I dunno.

Too bad I don't have a PSP. X3;

They typically have the spells cast instantly. They just dumb them down massively. Just take a look at what they did with Terra's and Shantotto's spells in Dissidia. And j00 need to play more Tales games d00d ;_;, since the spellcasters typically get MUCH better with damage taking, like Rebirth. Tales of Rebirth had NO healing spells, but to make up for this, all of the characters had massive amounts of Defense, to counter the massive amounts of Damage enemies could deal. So even the mages could take a few massive spells and still be standing. Not to mention Rebirth characters are the only ones that can actually block spells.

Rita's also massively broken, what with Tidal Wave, Violent Pain, and Gold Cat, and she's got her own slew of Strike Artes as it is. She could just use a little more speed (It's not possible to abuse the Agility stat in Vesperia like it was in Abyss D= )

And Philia from Destiny remake is actually pretty decent in close combat. Her humongous sword doesn't do much damage (Since it's not heavy at all...), but she's got several instant cast spells as it already is, and she's got her Philia Bomb skills. And with the right accessory equipped, she can instant the rest of her spells in Destiny remake, so I imagine if she can do that, all of her spells will be... Massively dumbed down. This also means she'd be stripped of Black Hole, Big Bang, Meteor Swarm, God Breath and Indignation from her freaking awesome *I'm a fucking overpowered mage that can fight where ever I want* move list.

I just hope they don't use Sacred Blame/Penance as her Blast/Mystic... Rebirth Crusader is so much cooler. Damn you Estelle for stealing her signature move...

All of the Destiny characters actually have a bit of an unfair advantage over others, since they're all much more combo friendly, and, since the PS2 remake, they've all got massive move lists. Stan (Superpowered overpowered main character)is the only character in the entire Tales series to have more than 40 moves in his Artes list, and the only character in the entire series to be able to use spells while in the air. The only one that comes close is Reid's 30-ish.

If I had the chance, I'd totally play more Tales.

But I don't have a PS1 memory card for my PS2 (Thus no Destiny/Eternia) and my desktop's fried, so I can't do emulations.

Also wtf's Dissidia? >>;;

Of course, it's on the PSP. I need to definitely consider buying one now.

Anyway:

You can totally Wiki this. Gives the characters and setting. I'm SO mad that Collette is already confirmed, and Regal or Presea aren't. I mean, what's she gonna do, knock you off the stage by tripping onto you?

It looks Rita's not confirmed yet, dood, lol. Arche in though. =D I'm hoping Farah, Barbatos, Dhaos, Regal, and Presea make the cast.

CLicky
A trailer, but if you look closely near the end of the vid you can see Suzu, who hasn't been confirmed yet. *hint hint*

Ahh, if you haven't played Legendia yet, I totally recommend it.

I have no idea if you import, or anything of the like, but you could also try the PS2 remake of Destiny, though you'd need something like Swap Magic to play imports first. But still, that kinda stinks that you've got no PS1 mem card D=

If you do eventually get a PSP, Eternia was released for the PSP in Europe, and there's also Destiny 2, Rebirth, and Phantasia Full Voice. The latter three are all in Japanese though.

Dissidia Final Fantasy. Like this, but with Final Fantasy characters. You should check it out; it's a really good game

I don't really mind that Rita's not announced yet. I'm just kinda happy that Mao made the cut.

I'm really hoping Johnny, Max, Tytree, Hisui, Miktran, and Spada make it in myself.
