My school blocks Wikipedia if you type "www.wikipedia.org" into the URL bar, but not if you do a Google search for something and click on a link that goes to Wikipedia.

Our filters don't tell us WHY sites are blocked, it just comes up with a huge banner that says "ACCESS DENIED" in big red letters.

I think my school has the same filter. My school blocks a TON of weird things with it. It makes it really hard to do research because half the potential sources are blocked.
 
Oh, my school's filter also likes to block random images on a Google search. So you search for something like "flower garden" and the search comes up and half the images are blacked out and say "IMAGE BLOCKED" in big letters.
