The world of Yoa has been inhabited by humans for millenia. They brought with them their animals and plants to the Earth-like planet and settled all continents. Civilisation on this planet has evolved. There is no longer any crime, nor is there any suffering. Medicine heals nearly all ailments.

But, there are those who would end it all. The humans of Yoa split into two races early on in their settlement. In the bubble-like cities the citizens live a life of luxury, relieved from the naturally higher gravity by anti-gravity machines. Every decision in life is made for them by the government and their representitives - from jobs to their future partners. They are fed pharmeceutical drugs and hormones from birth to make them more docile and less likely to rebel.

Few city Yoans live in relative freedom, they are usually outlaws.

The second race evolved in the wilderness of Yoa. They are bigger and stronger, more disease and temperature resistant and are completely independant from the government. Most of them are smarter than the city Yoans having led an independant life able to think for themselves. They farm their own crops and hunt their own meat and have an extensive collective knowledge of the local wildlife, what's good to eat and what can be used as medicine. Over the millenia they have developed powers beyond their Earth-dwelling ancestors, such as telekinesis - to help them cope with the slightly higher gravity.

The wild Yoans believe that the life the city Yoans lead was unjust slavery. In the first 500 years after terraforming the planet, the wild Yoans aimed to bring down the government and free the city Yoans. However they were outmatched by the technology wielded by the Yoan cities and were forced to retreat into the forests. The city councils worked with the governments to develop propaganda against the wild Yoans. Over thousands of years their genetic makeup began to drift away from that of the city Yoans. Thus it became easier for the governments to instill hate in them. Efforts were made to eliminate them, but they were resiliant.

Ten thousand years after the planet was terraformed, cities and farmland cover over 40% of habitable land. The wild Yoans can no longer keep hiding in the forests that continue to shrink.

Meanwhile, the Yoan cities prepare to rid the planet of the wild beasts once and for all.

Wild Yoans (aka "Beasts")

Wild Yoans average about 5 and a half feet tall. They are muscular and tanned. They are slightly more squat and stumpy to bear their weight in the 1.3x Earth's gravity. They have also developed very weak telekenesis powers. This is usually just to aid them in ordinary tasks, for example if they are lifting a heavy weight not only will they use muscle but they will use some psychic energy to make it easier to lift. They usually live in small villages but may be solitary. They are compassionate and intelligent but over the generations concern for the city Yoans has turned into hate from rejection by them.

City Yoans (self-proclaimed 'true Yoans')

They resemble their Earth-dwelling ancestors. Over the generations they have become pale and thin. Their brains are still capable but their minds are usually under-developed, and their knowledge rarely expands beyond their assigned jobs. The authorities choose for them who they will mate with, and thus sub-races have formed, selectively bred for certain jobs. Soldiers are bred for brute strength, agility and ability to cope with trauma. Scientists are bred for their brainpower and carefulness. The 'leftovvers' are usually the weakest and least intelligent, given jobs like combing the streets for trash.

Opening paragraphs:

It was a quiet morning. The songbirds chirped modestly in the morning sun, amongst the palms and shrubs. Two crickets communicated with one another. It was peaceful.

A low pitched hum grew louder. The birds were silenced as small black shapes in the sky neared the vicinity. The air-ships thundered overhead, kicking up a gust that made the tree branches swing about wildly.

They were looking for life. Specifically, human life. Infra-red detectors would pick up signs of body heat. If it was from a human-sized animal, troops would descend into the forest and investigate. Their aim - to kill every last wild Yoan on the planet.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Name: Ismene
Sex: Female
Age: 17
Race: Wild Yoan
Description: Rather tall and thin for a wild Yoan, which isn't really saying much. She has short black hair in a ponytail and very round brown eyes. She's thin to the point of looking sick, but that's actually normal (for her). Her hands, arms and legs are covered with zig-zag esque scars from climbing and practically living in trees. Her appearance in general looks something like a human (Yoan) squirrel.
Image: Just might make one at some point..
Backstory:
Other: For some reason, this reminds me of the book the Hunger Games. Or maybe a Hunger Games/Giver combo... >>

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Evoli: You're accepted.

I should have added my first character, shouldn't I?

Here he is:

Name: SC 1127657778 (aka 'Joun')
Sex: Male
Age: 22
Race: City, Soldier
Description: A six-foot muscular character bred and trained for both hand-to-hand and armed combat. He has short brown hair and big round blue eyes. He's not very bright, living his life just taking orders. He is afraid of making descisions for himself, and the only time he ever does so is during training, where he is forced to make descisions. From the food he eats to where he resides at night, to who his friends are, have all been decided for him, and that is the way he is most comfortable.

He has never been in any real battle before, so he is highly inexperienced.
Image: Won't be one
Backstory: He was born in a city close to the coast in the South continent. He came from a long line of soldiers but was much weaker than expected. However, his strength grew with age and thankfully, he managed to achieve his expected height and weight before he was euthanized.

He never got to see his mother, having been removed from her from birth. Instead he was raised by his father who was executed just recently for messing up in his job (he was supposed to provide feedback on the location of a wild Yoan village but gave a completely different location, nobody knows why). Joun has been convinced that the execution was justified.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Ismene reached the top of the tree and peered over the treetops. There was a humming sound coming from way off in the distance, as well as many tiny black dots, still quite far away. Swearing softly under her breath, she started climbing down as quickly as possible. She had few options at this point: Try and outrun the airships, double back around them when they got closer, or hide. None of them were really feasible, especially the first one. The wild Yoan twisted her head around to see a pond about ten feet behind her, and had a probably-bad idea.
Actually.. don't they pick up body heat? I wonder what would happen if I jump into really cold water... and freeze to death. Scratch that.
Still, doing anything was better than nothing. She ran off to another tree. It was huge, big enough for an entire house to be built in it if it wasn't dead, and hollow. Perfect. She jumped up and grabbed onto a low branch and quickly made her way up until she found a hole in the side of the tree. Without hesitation, she crawled in and dropped headfirst, pressing her hands against the side before she hit the ground. She turned around and dropped the rest of the way down almost silently. Ismene curled up in a ball and pulled her legs inside her dress, praying that she wouldn't be found.
((Wonder why nobody's really joined yet.. this RP seems pretty well thought-out and all that good stuff.. >>))

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

OOC: Compliments appreciated. ^_^ Though I suspect it's the crappy title that's putting people off, I can never think of titles. And the fact that I'm still a newb at RPs.

BIC:

He had handled a rifle many times in his young life. But this time his hands oozed with sweat. He wasn't used to the high humidity, or the weight of the air. No longer protected by the artificial atmosphere of the city, he trudged slowly through the thick foliage. His back and neck were already aching from the increased gravity.

His vision in one eye was of many colours, thanks to a device fixed there allowing him to see temperature. It was difficult, however, as the temperatures were already close to body temperature.

Never was a soldier of the likes of him given a complex task - brains were not what he was bred for. Nevertheless, his heart drummed from nerves, not at the prospect of injury, but at the prospect of being punished for messing up. For the first time, he was not training. This was the real deal.

The only real enemy on planet Yoa was the wild beasts. Thus, his only real order was to kill every one of them he could find. Evidence of a village somewhere near by meant that the chances of finding one was promising.

Amongst the confusing mozaic of colour, a particular shape stood out. Subtle inconsistancies in the background temperature led him to believe that there was an animal up ahead. He couldn't be sure.

Suddenly he slowed down to a crouching prowl. He knew he would need to alert the others of a sighting, but the shape was too obscure to be certain if it was a wild Yoan or just an animal...

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

What was that?
Ismene stiffed, then slowly sat up. She'd heard something walking nearby, a deer, maybe, but it sounded as if it had two feet. Whatever it was..
Her throat tightened, and she bit down on the inside of her arm. Whatever happened, she would not cry. She would not be discovered, curled up in a ball and crying, like everyone else.
Think.. okay, Dad said most Yoans aside from us aren't that bright, so to speak. I could try and talk my way out of this. Yeah, sure, and get shot in three seconds, tops.
Standing up, Ismene carefully made her way out of the tree. Thankfully (or maybe not), the hole she'd come out from was the opposite side of the tree, so who or whatever it was probably couldn't see her. She really didn't have any ideas as to how to escape, she she did the most natural thing for her: she began climbing. In only moments she was near the top. Knowing this was almost definitely a bad idea, she jumped out and grabbed a tree branch from the next tree like a squirrel. She looked back in the direction of the soldier expectantly, at the same time willing him to just turn around and go away...

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

A white shape shot out from his field of vision in this left eye, but he saw nothing in his right. Whatever had moved from there was extremely quick and slient, had he not been equipped with an infrared sensory device he would not have seen the shape ascend up an old tree.

Moving closer, he kept his weapon pointed close to the ground. He'd had it drummed into him not to open fire unless he was certain he would hit his target. He didn't want to alert the other beasts unless he was sure he'd bring this one down.

He was so consumed with focus on his task that he didn't contact his superiors when he did spot the target.

A moment of curiosity got the better of him as he spent s split second to gaze at the creature he had been told about but never seen. He knew it could see him, but his response was delayed by inexperience and fascination. He lifted his weapon as if in slow motion and prepared to fire.

The wild Yoan had already begun to move when he pulled the trigger...

OOC: A second character:

Name: Jajio
Sex: Male
Age: 18
Race: Wild
Description: A quiet boy with an almost cheeky attitude. He has good spear fishing skills and is a good hand-to-hand fighter. He's also very knowledgeable about wild plants for medicine and other purposes. Like others of his age, he has a strong hatred (perhaps even bitterness due to rejection) for city Yoans and has an irrational, violent attitude towards them.

He has black hair unevenly cut and unwashed. He still appears young and has a pointy chin. His tanned skin is discoloured with dirt. He has ragged old clothes most stolen from city Yoans (such as those hanging out to dry), such as jeans too big for him or t-shirts.
Image: Won't be one.
Backstory: He was raised by a gang of about forty who were orphaned by city soldiers. He himself was not orphaned but his mother lived alone and he found comfort within the gang that filled a void in his otherwise lonely life.

The children were not raised with adult disciplinary input and so formed their own rules and laws. They agree to fighting back against the city Yoans and share a loathing of them. They have overstepped city boundaries and have even attacked citizens. As far as they are concerned, they are at war with the city Yoans.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Ismene had already jumped to the next tree when she felt.. something on her side. It was only a sort of tickle, but when she looked down, there was a huge red stain in her dress, which was growing alarmingly quickly. Blood.
NO!
It didn't feel like much of anything, she guessed either shock, adrenaline, or blood loss. She'd been lucky, that time, but now what? Just running away was pointless; although she was positive her attacker could never outrun her, he had a gun. And again, she couldn't fight for the same reason.
So.. I probably don't have much time.. this can't happen! No..!
She had another, probably futile, plan. Trying to calm down, she covered the bullet wound with one hand, and focused her whole mind on the sand below the tree. Slowly, a brownish cloud of dust rose above the ground and began to spin like a very small tornado.
It was soon glaringly obvious that she was running out of psychic energy, which wasn't helped by probably major blood loss. With one last wave of energy, the sand shot at Joun's eyes to blind him, at least temporarily. Maybe, maybe this would buy some time. Without waiting to see if the attack worked, Ismene dropped onto the ground and sprinted as fast as she could away from the soldier. There was no way he could keep up, unless he had a vehicle of some sort or the "other Yoans" were better athletes than they looked.
Please, please be blinded. Maybe I have an advantage here, I know the terrain and everything better- pleasepleaseplease!

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

((Joun:

Joun roared as tiny pieces of silica were flung into his eyes. He let go of his weapon with his left hand, flicked away his infra-red sensor and instinctively began rubbing his eyes, unknowing that it was the worst thing to do as he had never encountered sand or any other kind of soil before.

The rookie attempted to peer back up at the trees but his vision was too blurry, and it stung to keep his eyes open for more than a few seconds. Tears of pain began to accumulate and blur his vision even further.

"Dammit" He grunted. He may not have been all that smart but he knew the wild Yoan would be gone by now, and he assumed he had missed his target.

He flicked a switch on his earpiece and began to alert the rest of the troop of the sighting...))

((Jajio:

Jajio stood at the edge of a nearby river, where he had his morning drink and wash. But he was not washing nor drinking. Alert, the boy stood upright, watching all around and listening carefully. He had heard the gunshot, and he knew there was only one thing it could be.

Certain there was no more sound, he began to fasten his shoes. Not taking any chances, he started back up the river towards the gang's base to alert the others of danger. He may have been a good hand-to-hand fighter, but due to a recent incident with one of his older friends in the gang, he was rather skittish about guns...

Still, he kept a calm, steady pace. He hated to admit even to himself that he was scared.))

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

((Jeez, people should join this. Heck with you being new to RPGing, it's a great idea. ^^))
Under safer circumstances, Ismene would have laughed her head off at his reaction. It barely counted as an attack, the equivalent of kicking sand in his face. But it had worked, and she wasn't complaining. Still, running barefoot like that after being shot was not a good combination. Panting, she slowed down to a walk. The soldier Yoan probably wasn't coming back, and she couldn't keep running like that.
After a bit, she reached a river. She just started feeling pain from the bullet wound, which had been numb before. It was difficult to keep walking without whimpering or, more likely, collapsing. But both would mean almost certain death. Then again, not trying to stop the bleeding was also a bad idea, and she was starting to get light-headed..
Who's that?
Ismene had always lived alone except her family, but she knew there were other wild Yoans around. Up ahead was a boy who looked a little older than herself walking rather slowly, though he seemed nervous. Judging by his rather ragged appearance, he was a wild Yoan. It would be dangerous to call out, and asking for help was against her nature, but this was desperate. Staggering slightly, she regained her balance and called out softly,
"Wait! There're soldiers here, I've been shot."

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

((Jajio:

A noise... from over the rushing of the river, it was hard to tell where it was coming from. The voice sounded small and quiet from Jajio's position, and he couldn't make out what was being said. He turned around to look behind him. A hunched, swaying form stood at the river's edge. He slowly edged closer, always suspicious of strangers.

As he neared he could make out she was clothed in a dress. On planet Yoa, just like on Earth, dresses were worn mostly by females. Jajio viewed females as far less of a threat than males, so he hurried closer when it became clear that she was in distress.

Blood drained from Jajio's face. He hesitated for a moment, not knowing how to handle the situation. Gun shot wounds were one thing he found very difficult to handle.

"Aww, geez..." he exclaimed worriedly. The poor girl's clothes were soaked in blood, and she was still losing more. After his moment of hesitation he put his arm around her and propped her up for support.

"Can you walk?"

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

"I can. 'Ve been running though, and I think that made it worse.."
Ismene was a bit wobbly and dizzy from pain and blood loss, but at least she didn't fall, mostly thanks to Jajio supporting her. She tried as hard as possible not to cough. If she did, she would probably be coughing blood all over the place which would be bad enough, and she didn't want to scare him with all this blood. Plus, making any more noise than necessary would probably attract more soldiers..! Ismene said hoarsely,
"We should hurry. The one that.. er, found me is probably blind for a bit, got sand in his eyes."
She winced slightly.
I don't even sound coherent. Th's is really bad.. Stupid city Yoans..

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

He paused to look around. From his experience he knew the soldiers would attack in groups. One down meant many more to come. His heart began to race when he realised she could not move quick enough to get away on time - they were sure to recah here soon.

"Screw this..." He huffed and supporting her back he grabbed under her legs, carrying her in his arms.

He had to run if they had any chance of not being tracked down. He tried to tread as lightly as possible as not to injure the girl further. The base was not far from here - but he wasn't sure if this was a good thing or not, because this meant the soldiers were also close to the base.

When he arrived there were few people in the vicinity. The base looked like a shanty town, small cramped huts built from salvaged currogated iron and planks of rotting wood. The best the children could do, really.

Being one of the oldest Jajio commanded one of the small boys playing with a coconut to alert "Chsa".

((could really use a few more characters, hoping someone else might take interest and join. I'm going to try to avoid making too many myself))

Name: Chsa (pronounces "Sha")
Sex: Female
Age: 21
Race: Wild
Description: A woman with short, dark hair and a very stern expression. Her eyes are also dark and fox-like. She is dressed not only in shirts and hard-wearing pants, but also in some make-shift armours from coconut shells and bamboo stems.

She is the oldest and first member of the gang. She sees it as her duty to oversee the safety of the children of the gang. Although she is technically an adult, she can be highly immature particularly if she's proven wrong, though she does her best for the group, she simply has not been taught things that parents normally teach.

Primarily she is the descision maker, and also actively fights to protect the youngsters from danger. Secondarily she acts as a comforting surrogate mother to the youngest members who still cry at night because they miss mommy.
Image: Won't be one.
Backstory: She was born in a village that was flushed out by a laboratory-bred disease designed to target and kill wild Yoans. A flaw of the design was that it affected children less severely, since it's effectiveness was inhibited by the human growth hormone. Thus, she was the oldest of an entire village of orphaned chilren. She tried to rebuild the village, but it was never the same, and she lacked the knowledge required to grow crops or keep animals effectively.

Later her group merged with another group of orphans whose parents had suffered the same fate, almost doubling their numbers. As more and more children began to look up to her, she began to learn through trial and error how to be a leader.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Name: Chali (Chah-LEE)
Sex: Female
Age: 26
Race: Wild Yoan
Description: Her tanned face is quiet and kind, and her mouth is always slightly curved into a smile. Her eyes are large and knowing, one blue and one hazel, and her long hair flows over her back like a river of coal. She often wears just a simple bikini top and skirt that she wove from reeds.

Image: None
Backstory: Chali grew up near a lake with her small family of her brother, mother, father, an aunt and her uncle. They were killed when the city Yoans deemed them as a threat, and Chali escaped only by hiding in a small cave of brush near the lake. Ever since, she's stuck near that area, making sure that anyone who happens to pass by gets the help that they need.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

..::Jonalai*Lekraa::..: Accepted.

Chsa arrived with the little boy who had gone to retrieve her. He enthusiastically tugged at her arm, leading her in the direction of the wounded girl.

Her eyes widened momentarily at the sight.

"There's city soldiers near by... to the South" Jajio informed.

Chsa had feared this day would come. For years they had remained hidden deep in the forest, and Chsa had known that the cities were expanding, assimilating the ground on which the forests once flourished. But she had never had to deal with them being so close before.

"Then we can't stay here any longer. We have to move."

Jajio disagreed, but he was in no position to argue just now.

"Take the invalid inside. I will begin preparations for the move."

Jajio nodded obediently and carried the wounded girl into one of the scrappy-looking huts. He carefully laid her down on a wooden bench, making sure not to touch the wound. He wasn't sure what to do with her - nobody here knew how to treat such wounds.

All he could do was try to comfort her.

"How are you feeling...?" He asked.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Much further up the river from the others, a woman finished washing off her hands. She'd found a patch of berries and hadn't been able to resist the sweet, sticky temptation. She stood, looking around, then climbing up a nearby tree to get her bearings. There was an ominous feel to the forest today, and the earlier gunshots had done more than just set her on edge. She could see the black dots, and knew what they were.

"Well then...looks like it's time to hide..." she whispered to herself, sliding back down the branches of the tree. She grabbed her small reed pack, tossing it over her shoulder and jogging away.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

Ismene was vaguely surprised at how many other Wilds there were. Her parents had always said there were more aside from their family, not too far away. Not that it affected much of anything now, but it was a nice thought. She didn't like being carried around, being helpless and useless in this state.
How do I feel? Well, for starters I've just been shot, possibly in a lung, so I'm in a ridiculous amount of pain here and most likely going to die a slow, messy death, I'm dizzy as heck and about to throw up, there are soldiers here, everyone's gonna die..
"Could be worse," She said wearily.
I wish Mom was here. She was great with this sort of stuff. Couldn't die if you tried.

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

((Jajio:

Jajio breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that she was still fairly alert.

The fire in the middle of the hut was still burning. He hung an old pot over the fire and added a little water from a metal barrel. He didn't know much about first aid, but it was common knowledge that fire or hot water applied to a wound prevented infection and disease.

He was shaking and pale. Memories flooded back to him of his best friend, his brother from another mother. He tried to convince himself that this situatin was far different, and that this victim of the city Yoan brutality stood a far greater chance of making it. But as much as he tried, he couldn't stop fearing the worst. The mixture of emotions flooding into his system was hard to swallow. Most of all, his anger at how the city soldiers could be so heartless.

"I didn't get your name..." Jajio said, hoping to keep her alert, and keep his mind off the past.))

((Joun:

A disgruntled soldier kept trudging through the forest. Having just recieved a grilling via radio from his superior, he had to keep on his toes. The troop had spread out in the direction of the sighting, and no thanks to his recklessness they could be searching for some time.

Fear of failure was what kept them all on their toes. For those who failed often were 'euthanized'. Effecively removed from the gene pool.

He stopped. Taking one step back, he peered down. Blood... and footprints. He was almost sure he had missed the wild Yoan, but decided to follow this lead anyway. It was, after all, the only lead he had to the beast's whereabouts.))

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

"I'm Ismene. Actually.. I don't know yours either."
Ismene answered without looking at him, studying the bullet wound with morbid fascination. The bleeding wasn't anywhere close to stopping, but it had slowed down somewhat, at least. She felt lonely all of a sudden, which was new to her. She had lived perfectly well alone now for, what? A year now? She knew she should be scared about the soldiers that might appear at any moment, but between everything else going on in her head, it just seemed to stop mattering. Ismene started talking again, mostly to keep herself awake. Falling asleep when you were badly injured was supposed to be a bad idea, she knew.
"Are you okay? You're shaking."

Re: Yoa the Eutopia (non-pokemon)

"My name's Jajio." He smiled, trying to appear warmer to her, but he wasn't sure it was working.

"I'm fine" After a brief pause he continued, "I just don't like blood" He lied.

He dipped a cloth into the hot water and pulled it out, draining it off a little. The cloth steamed as he brought it over to the wound. He carefully began clearing the blood, making sure not to disturb the clot that was beginning to form.

"I don't know how to take out bullets... I don't want to make the bleeding worse either." He wasn't sure why he was telling her this, as it couldn't have been comforting to hear.

At that moment Chsa walked in. "Right, how are we doing here...?"

She closely examined the wound before turning around to Jajio. "Go help the kids get their things togerther" She ordered.

"Can't I just stay here and make sure she's-"

"DON'T ARGUE WITH ME. Just go do as you're told." Chsa went to retrieve a blanket from across the room to keep Ismene warm, before taking over the job of cleaning her wound.

Jajio opened his mouth to say something, but decided against it. Instead he growled angrily before storming off.

"Stupid kid..." Chsa commented, referring to Jajio. "He hasn't been bothering you has he?"

---

The blood splatters stopped at the river. There the trail appeared to run dry. It was impossible to detect any footprints in the coarse pebbles.

Joun waded into the wide, shallow river and looked around to see if there was anywhere the young female could have escaped to. It seemed to Joun that she had crossed to the other side of the river hoping he wouldn't follow.

"Can't be far now..." He continued, narrowly missing the orphan gang's base.
