3v3 Singles

DQ: 1 week

Damage Cap: 33%

Banned Moves: Healing moves (any move where the user regains HP), Protect, Detect

Arena:
A relatively simple landscape, with a typical flat dirt arena surrounded by dense forest. This area, however, is completely surrounded by deep chasms to prevent either challenger from leaving the area. Pokemon who attempt to leave the arena by leaping over these chasms must be returned immediately or risk severe injury and are considered knocked out. Winged, psychic or floating Pokemon that attempt to fly or float over said chasms also must be returned and, while not at risk of injury are disqualified. Digging is not allowed due to the risk of what is virtually a giant pillar from falling over. The trees are susceptible to being knocked over or caught on fire.

Extra rules: First stage Pokemon only, no Pokemon that require to be underwater

Ok, hmm first battle... Let's go with Dominic the Mudkip!
(By the way, my internet sometimes is weird on this site, and I couldn't get a link to the post itself, for some odd reason, the best I could get was the page. Next time I'll just wait until I can get a proper connection to post a challenge.)

Paralysis is pretty nasty, lets try to get away from that with a Double Team, 4 copies. Next, lower accuracy with Mudslap, then finish with Ice Beam.

Double Team(4)~Mudslap~Ice Beam

The arena looks like almost any other basic battle accomodation in the league, a simple hard-packed dirt rectangle set out in a small stand of trees. Weeds grow up around its edges, and the white chalk lines that mark its boundaries and center are broken and fading. The grove surrounding the arena is no more notable, but beyond that, where the earth abruptly drops away into a blank chasm, the terrain grows decidedly more unusual. There is nothing to suggest the origin of the gap, whether it be natural or artificial. Here and there, tree roots poke out from the sides of the central island of earth, pale and hanging limply in empty air.

Despite the overland dificulties inherent in reaching the place, two trainers have chosen this as their field of battle today. Standing at either end of the arena, they wait only on the word of the referee to get the competition underway. When that word comes, Aethelstan is the first to move, calling on Dominic the mudkip. The little blue pokémon appears in a flash of light, the fin on his head twitching as he takes in the arena around him. Across the stretch of open dirt, Nenya the dratini takes shape. The two young pokémon stare each other down, tense and excited as the first orders ring out.

Nenya rears up, staring down at Dominic as electricity sizzles across her purple skin. Flaring her ears, the dragon shoots a thin streamer of electrical energy straight at Dominic, who lets out a gurgling noise as the thunder wave courses through his system. Shivering and stumbling, the mudkip does his best to run back and forth across the arena. Though his movements get more sure as he works up speed, the paralysis caused by the thunder wave holds him back considerably, and he manages to produce only two clones.

Nenya looks from one mudkip to the other as they shamble to a halt near the center of the arena, alike in every visible way; it is impossible for her to tell which is which. Letting out a snort of irritation, the dratini turns her eyes up to the clear sky overhead and begins to croon, a surprisingly deep sound for a pokémon of her stature. A green glow spreads out across the dratini's scales, and Dominic can't help but follow her eyes to the heavens. For a few seconds he can't see anything out of the ordinary in the sky overhead, but soon enough a strange gleam shows far overhead. It rapidly grows larger, glowing the same green as Nenya as she guides it home. Realizing that the meteor is meant for him, Dominic tries to run, his clones following after. In his paralyzed state, though, there is little hope of his escape, and the green-blazing meteor slams to earth square atop one of the mudkip, sending up a great plume of dirt where it hits. Smaller fragments of rock pepper the arena and shoot down into the trees, starting small fires in the upper canopy. The remaining mudkip huddle together, eyes wide as they stare up at the side of the crater that has formed where the third once was.

Nenya shakes her head in exasperation as she realizes she's done no more than eliminated a clone. The other two mudkip recover quickly enough and spit small streamers of water onto the earth in front of them, turning dry earth into sticky mud. Only one of the mud puddles is real, but Nenya is at a loss as to which after the mudkip use their tailfins to sweep twin streamers of muck up and into her face. The dratini rears back, spraying drops of mud everywhere but doing little to dislodge the majority of the goop.

She opens watering eyes, staring blurrily at her opponents. If she can't see, then she'll make sure Dominic can't, either. Nenya breathes out a dense, dark cloud of haze that rapidly spreads out across the arena, shrouding it all in chilly fog. Dominic blunders around as the haze closes in, occasionaly twitching as his muscles seize up. His clone, meanwhile, fades into the haze. Nenya blinks the mud out of her eyes, and though she can see no better than Dominic in the haze, the cold haze somehow restores her blurred vision. It also leeches away the fatigue that had overtaken her after the draco meteor attack and soothes her frustration at having missed her mark. The dratini relaxes, letting the mysterious haze do its work.

Dominic, too, likes the cool humidity of the haze. He can only guess at where Nenya is residing now, but he feels ready to try for an ice beam attack anyway. His body temperature drops precipitously, chilling the water in his internal reserves to subzero temperatures. Dominic spits a thick stream of water at random into the haze. Purely by chance it grazes Nenya's back, and though most of the attack passes harmlessly above her, she feels the sharp sting of cold as it scrapes along her spine, leaving a thin rime of ice in its wake.

Ok Dominic, good first round, our main hinder is that paralysis; a Refresh should take care of that. Use Water Pulse next, and if he becomes confused, use another Icebeam. If not, use another Water Pulse

Mess with his had a bit first; then put up safeguard so that you don't get confused (or frozen for that matter). Then attract or captivate, the one you didn't do the first time around.

Nenya snorts again and tosses her head. Without clear direction as to which attack she should be using, the dratini is left to fidget, tail lashing the ground as she tries to decide what to do. In the end, she decides that it doesn't really matter; she can't even see her opponent, so one attack is more or less as good as another. Without her looks to fall back on, the dratini takes to slithering through the cloying haze, purring suggestive comments in hopes of attracting Dominic's attention.

Though he doesn't see Nenya, Dominic does indeed hear what she's saying. The dratini's voice drifting out of the haze is, for him, more creepy than seductive, however; shuddering, he hunkers down and tries to put the disembodied sound out of his mind and concentrate on his own attack. Energy bubbles throughout his body, natrual healing processes running into overdrive to flush the paralysis from his system. His muscles loosen and relax, a wave of relief following in the wake of the refresh.

Nenya gives up her calling and settles down to a bit of introspection herself. She extends a wall of energy outward from her body, creating a barrier of glowing energy that surrounds her nose to tail-tip. Though the safeguard ensures that she won't be in danger of suffering paralysis as Dominic has, its faint light is a danger in and of itself. Through the fading haze Dominic can see its glow, and he marks it as his target as water bubbles up to the back of his throat.

Nenya is quite surprised when a hissing, swirling blast of water comes ripping through the haze and breaks against her scales, pushing her back a couple of inches. The safeguard cuts out any disorientation she would ordinarily feel as a result of the attack, leaving Nenya merely wet and rather miffed. By now the haze has thinned enough that she can see her target as a fuzzy silhouette a few feet away. Inching across the arena towards him, the dratini puts on her most beguiling expression, blinking her large, liquid eyes and perking up her webbed ears. Dominic looks more startled than anything as she comes slithering up to him and doesn't even seem interested as she shows off her scales, which glint in the light of her own safeguard. Nothing the dratini can say sways the mudkip, either; all her advances merely leave him cold--literally. The chilly haze, still hanging all around the pokémon, saps any interest Dominic might have in Nenya.

At last Dominic has had enough and expresses his desire that Nenya leave him alone with another water pulse. The dratini, shocked by the cold rebuff, shakes water from her face and favors Dominic with a glower. Stupid mudfish doesn't appreciate true beauty, huh?

I know, I know, Dominic is making you frustrated...

Paralyze him again, unless he's commanded to refresh, in which case Double Team. Dragon Dance then, or Thunder Wave if you didn't already. Extremespeed if you know how, or Double Team again.

Thunder Wave / Double Team (5) ~ Dragon Dance / Thunder Wave ~ Extremespeed / Double Team (7 or 8, I guess, or 5 if it ignores modifiers)

OK, good going Dominic, ya know, you and I have something in common, I think Dratini can be creepy too. Start with a Rock Tomb to lower that dragon's speed. Then use Facade to take advantage of the fact you'll be paralyzed. Finish off with another Refresh, since it worked so well last time.

Eyes narrowing, Nenya prepares another electrical burst to teach Dominic a lesson. The mudkip's eyes widen as he sees sparks start to dance around Nenya's form and hears the low crackle of building charge, but he's nowhere near quick enough to escape the thunder wave that follows soon afterward. Once more Dominic is treated to a fit of shuddering and spasming as the electricity scrambles the nerve impulses to his muscles, leaving him in only tenuous control of his own body.

For the moment, though, Dominic can move well enough to rear up on his hind legs and bring his front paws smashing down into the earth. A thick crack races away from the point of impact and towards Nenya, growing broader as it approaches the dratini. Rocks begin to force their way up out of the fissure as it grows ever wider, until it at last reaches Nenya and the ground around her explodes, a ring of stones forcing their way out of the earth and then crashing down atop her in an untidy pile. The dratini is less effectively trapped than some pokémon might be, as she is both small and slender, and with some effort she manages to worm her way free of the rock tomb.

At first the dratini moves stiffly and with obvious care, her body bruised by the rock tomb attack. The remains of the mist soothe off the lingering pain, though, and soon Nenya is feeling well enough to launch into a vigorous dance, coiling in and over herself in intricate patterns, moving ever faster as she works up confidence. Initial relief is soon displaced by irritation, however, when Nenya fails to feel the usual rush of energy that accompanies her dragon dance. Try as she might, she can't seem to call up the power that usually accompanies the technique. The haze, which earlier had been a boon, is now an insidious opponent, sapping away her energy and preventing her from getting any real effect out of her dance.

Dominic is unaware of the dratini's irritation; he knows only his own frustration at finding himself paralyzed once again. He throws himself at the flailing dratini, catching Nenya completely by surprise as he tackles her and knocks her to the ground. From there, the mudkip gives the dragon a merciless kicking, here and there supplemented by a blow from his broad tailfin. Nenya tries to squirm away from Dominic, but the mudkip, intent on making Nenya feel something close to the suffering he's had to endure as a result of being paralyzed, won't let her escape until his anger is spent.

At last Nenya manages to slither away, her scales scuffed and torn away in places and her dignity further damaged. She doesn't run far, though, making a quick turn to face her opponent. Ducking her head, the dratini powers forward across the earth as fast as she can, moving like a flash of periwinkle lightning as she rams into Dominic's side and sends him tumbling. The mudkip, who didn't even see that Nenya had started coming at him, lies in a confused heap, before giving his head a little shake and deciding he'd better see about removing his paralysis again. As before, a wave of healing energy sweeps his body, loosening locked muscles and bringing his body back under his full control. Meanwhile, the green glow around Nenya fades away and the last shreds of the haze are burned off, revealing the full extent of the destruction caused by Nenya's draco meteor.

Dominic is pulling up water from where it is sequestered deep inside his body, hoping to catch Nenya off-guard and off-balance with a dose of confusion via water pulse, but the dratini isn't about to give him the opportunity. Pushing aside her irritation, Nenya concentrates and returns the aura of protective energy that had only just deserted her. Dominic pouts, as much as his overfilled mouth will allow, when he sees the green glow spring up around Nenya, but by this point it's too late to do anything but spew the water pulse her way. The swirling coil of water punches up against Neny's scale, but all its spinning can't nauseate her through the protective curtain of safeguard.

A little stung but feeling superior nonetheless, Nenya throws herself into a dragon dance with a will. This time, there is no haze to steal away her power, and adrenaline floods her body, temporarily drowning her bitterness in a rush of exhilaration. The ancient power of dragons heightens her aggression and sharpens her reflexes, and Nenya is feeling positively dangerous until Dominic's ice beam cuts into her concentration, leaving a burning line of frost across one side of her body and putting the chill on her elation.

Nenya comes out of her dance with a glare at the mudkip, the ice on her scales cracking as muscles beneath the skin twitch reflexively, then sets off at top speed. This time, she merely slithers as fast as she can in a circle around Dominic, rather than looping around in intertwining arcs, and picks up speed as she goes. Dominic tries to keep his eyes on her, but quickly gives up as all the spinning this requires of him starts to make him feel queasy. As Nenya accelerates, she appears to blur and lengthen, then split up from one dratini into two, then three, and on an on until a whole seven clones are speeding along in her wake. Nenya and her accompanying illusions slow down, fanning out around Dominic in perfect synchrony.

The mudkip glances from one dratini to the other, perplexed, and finally decides he'll just have to take his shot at one of them at random; there's no way he can tell them apart. Spitting a bit of water onto the ground in front of him, he works the dirt up into a gluey sort of mud, then swipes a great blob of it at one of the dratini with his broad tail. The muck sails through empty air, erasing the dratini clone in the process, and Dominic sighs in disappointment.

dragon dance a bit, double team, and then you can take your anger out at him.

dragon dance ~ double team (ensure at least 9 clones active) ~ outrage

(I probably won't be very available for most of July.)

Let's see here, time to get creative. That many clones is going to be a pain in the "you know what".

You know that humongous crater, fill it with water with a Hydro pump, try to get some into the crack too. You'll need a lot of water (we need to use Surf) so use Hydro Pump again if there isn't enough to use Surf; if there is, use Surf. Then you should probably chill. No need to exhaust yourself.
I hope this works..

Nenya and her clones start up a dragon dance, coiling and swaying in perfect unison while maintaining a ring around Dominic. The mudkip, feeling weirdly nauseated by the sight of all the dancing dratini, tries to keep his eyes off them as he trots over to the large crater left by the Draco meteor. Spewing a powerful hydro pump into the broad, fairly shallow depression, he quickly fills it with water.

As she did last round, Nenya stops her dancing and starts up another double team. Dominic closes his eyes as the dratini around him blur out into what appears to be a continuous ring around him. When the dratini slows to a stop once more, her contingent of clones has increased to ten, and Dominic is even more confused than before as to which one is real. Glancing from one dratini to another, the mudkip picks one at random, then extends his power over water to the crater he's just filled with his hydro pump. A wave, small relative to what he might be able to make with access to a pond or lake but nevertheless much wider and taller than his opponent, rises up and rushes down over the edge of the crater, centering on the dratini of his choice as it breaks across the arena.

Although not as broad as a normal surf would be, the wall of water is sufficiently large to strike all but two of the dragons on the far left and right of the ring. One of the dratini caught up in the attack proves to be the real Nenya, and as the dratini squeals with surprise and anger as the wave sweeps her up and drags her along the ground, all her hard-won clones vanish. Dominic grins to himself and lies down, closing his eyes and relaxing on the now-pleasantly-damp earth. Nenya, meanwhile, blows water out of her nostrils and rights herself, slithering around to face Dominic. All her frustration with the mudkip, the humiliation she's had to endure and the anger that she's been tamping down, wells up and consumes her consciousness in a haze of blind wrath. Her energy, unfettered by rational inhibitions, rages unchecked, and brilliant blue-green flames spring up all down the dratini's body as her power storms out of control, replacing the glow of her fading safeguard. Dominic, who is enjoying his chill, is unaware of his opponent's transformation until she lets out a wild screech. The mudkip then only has a few seconds to figure out what's going on as the dratini bears down on him at top speed.

Upon reaching Dominic, Nenya lashes out with her tail, dealing him a heavy clout to the side of the face that knocks him over . As he tries to scramble to his feet, the dratini rams him with her head, rolling him away across the dirt. Dominic struggles to escape, but Nenya is implacable, raining vicious blows on him every time he tries to rise and searing him with her very presence, thanks to the fire spraying from her scales.
