- Ready to fight.

Alraunne considers her final pokémon for a few moments before casting a new pokéball out onto the ice. It splits open in midair and spits out a flash of dazzling energy that settles into the shape of Mei the pachirisu. The electric type shivers, shifting back and forth from paw to paw as she looks out at the icy lake around her. Her eyes settle on Retsurai and his substitute, and she drops to all fours, chittering a challenge across at her opponent, her tail twitching with excitement.

Before the lethargic Retsurai can even hope to begin responding to his commands, Mei has taken off, bounding across the ice with her tail rippling behind her like a pennant. Retsurai blinks and looks away as the pachirisu speeds up; the squirrel pokémon is moving so fast that it's making him dizzy as she runs giddy circles around him.

When the shinx raises his eyes again, it's to find himself confronted by not one pachirisu, but three, and as he turns to glance over his shoulder, three more, ranged around him in a rough circle. Mei and her clones chatter and bounce from paw to paw, clearly full of energy where Retsurai is on the verge of collapse. Giving up any hope of figuring out which squirrel is real, Retsurai starts cooking up his toxic attack resigned to the fact that it's going to be a shot in the dark. And indeed, when he spits a gobbet of nasty poison at one of the pachirisu, it flies right through the squirrel and spatters on the ice beyond; five Meis remain, looking more delighted than ever after Retsurai's miss.

Mei's gloating doesn't last long, though. Instead, she and her clones close in around Retsurai, batting their eyes and cooing compliments to the shinx. Retsurai's substitute tries to distract him from the pachirisu's attract attack, but the shinx shoves it out of the way, impatient--he wants to see this! Mei giggles as the shinx wrestles with his own substitute, keeping his eyes trained on the gaggle of pachirisu. Isn't he just so cute! But Mei can tell he's very strong and brave, too; oh, she's very scared of him, very scared of him indeed--but he wouldn't really hurt her, would he? She gives her tail a saucy flick and jumps back a pace, her clones following suit, as Retsurai disentangles himself from his substitute and struggles to his feet.

Most rational thought has left the shinx's mind as he hurls himself across the ice at Mei--one of them, anyway--not even registering the amount of force behind his charge. Fortunately for Mei, the shinx has guessed wrong again and falls flat on his face as he hurtles straight through another of her clones. His substitute follows at a leisurely pace, as though embarrassed by its master's antics.

Once more Mei and her three remaining clones close in around the shinx. Retsurai, totally lovestruck, is trying to pull himself to his feet again when Mei jumps forward, lips pursed--only to be intercepted by the substitute. Her face ends up buried in its staticky side, and she pulls back immediately, pawing at her tingling lips. Retsurai, meanwhile, has managed to get his feet under him and started another eager charge. This time, it's the real Mei he bowls over. The pachirisu lets out an explosive exclamation as she is knocked backwards onto the ice, Retsurai landing on top of her. The exhausted shinx promptly passes out, a content smile plastered across his face. Mei's clones blip out of existence as the shock of the attack causes her to lose her concentration. The take down was much weaker than normal, though, Retsurai not having had much energy left to put behind it. Mei is more annoyed than injured as a bolt of red light shoots across the ice to pull Retsurai off her and is back on her feet in a flash--bring on the next opponent!

Terrain Notes
There is a hole about two feet in diameter has at the edge of the shore behind Retsurai, and another large hole out near the middle of the lake. The grass just behind Retsurai is coated with viscous, poisonous liquid.

Final Notes
- Retsurai's take down did less damage than usual because of how little energy he could invest in it.
- blazheirio889 sends out next, then Alraunne attacks, and finally blazheirio889 attacks.

Hm... First, try a Charm. If the Cyndaquil is adequately charmed, follow that up with Captivate, and then Sweet Kiss. If Cyndaquil isn't interested for whatever reason after that first Charm, put up a Light Screen and head for the ground. If Cyndaquil follows you, use Mud Slap. If he doesn't follow but doesn't use Protect, try a Captivate if you haven't already. If you have, another Double Team for two clones. If he uses Protect whether he follows you or not, use Magnet Rise.

Well, if we can't Taunt or anything, we'll just avoid the stuff.

Use a Quick Attack and Dig combo. Use the Quick Attack to get the hell off the ice, and Dig to well, dig into the ground. The ground should've thawed a bit by now, since it's almost spring, so you should be able to do this, albeit with a bit more energy. The Pachirisu may try to come after you and shout random stuff down your tunnel, so after you've performed your combo, cover your ears for the rest of the round. And, on your last remaining action, gimme a good Defense Curl.

- A little chilly, but otherwise fine.

The last pokémon to feature in this match appears in a blast of white light. As the flare of energy dissipates, Khao the cyndaquil stretches and sniffs at the chilly air, the flame patches on his back glowing a brilliant orange. Mei takes the new arrival in stride, giving Khao a dangerous smile when he looks across at her and balling her little paws into fists.

The pahcirisu barely has a chance to open her mouth and start her attack before Khao wheels about and tears away across the ice, skidding and slipping madly as his little paws flail at a breakneck pace. Mei is left agape as her opponent disappears into the tall grass at the side of the lake, still going full tilt. The pachirisu grimaces, then cautiously follows, wondering what the cyndaquil could be up to.

Pushing through the tall grass and reeds, Mei runs across a small, newly-dug hole. Her acute hearing picks up the sound of Khao's snuffly breathing emanating from below, and the pachirisu steps up to the edge of the hole and peers in. Nothing is visible below but darkness. Mei frowns--how is she supposed to charm her opponent if he can't even (she thinks) see her? Nevertheless, the pachirisu does her best, putting on her best cute and cuddly act in case Khao should be paying attention, and giving her best verbal performance to go with it.

There is no response from below. Mei waits for a few seconds, then shrugs. She'll take that as not interested, then. Raising her paws in front of her face, the pachirisu gathers energy in her palms; a thin sheet of glowing golden light flows out around her fingers, forming a translucent sphere of power that encircles her completely.

Underground, Khao has his little paws firmly over his ears. Squirming around in the enclosed space, the cyndaquil succeeds in pulling in his limbs and tucking his chin to his chest, curling up into a tight ball. His opponent, meanwhile, is sitting quietly, her tail twitching now and then and a paw to her chin as she tries to figure out her attacks. So many different conditionals to choose from... and none of them really seem to fit the situation at hand, either. The round ebbs away with the pachirisu agonizing over what to do next and Khao waiting patiently in his tunnel.

Alright, I bet you're itching for some action.
Gimme an Eruption. Fry the squirrel to a crisp! If she Protects or Detects or is otherwise unaccessible, let's see. Howl. However, if she tries to use Quick Attack or Agility or Double Team, just stick your little muzzle out of your tunnel and give her a nice Swift.
Then, give me a Dig + Body Slam combo. Be sure to pin her down and try to keep her like that. If she Protects/Detects/whatever, another Howl. If there are clones, or she tries to run away, swipe through any clones/catch up with her with Aerial Ace.
Finally, if you executed the combo, you can just sit there because you can't do anything else. If you didn't do the combo, just Flamethrower. If you were paralyzed, Facade, but if Mei is unaccessible due to anything BUT a Substitute, do nothing.

Eruption/Howl/Swift ~ Dig + Body Slam/Howl/Aerial Ace ~ Nothing/Flamethrower/Facade

Take cover, Mei! Don't just stand there looking down the tunnel! Who knows what Cyndaquil can fire up from that hole! To start, dig your own hole. Remain motionless until you hear the Cyndaquil howl twice. After that, follow the sound and try to dig into his tunnel to attack him. If you only hear the Cyndaquil howl once, dig a bit away from the sound because he might be coming your way. If the Cyndaquil makes it to your tunnel, find some roots and use Grass Knot to tie him up.

- Standing at the edge of Khao's hole, perplexed. Protected by light screen (3 more actions).

Mei's ears perk up at the sound of her trainer's voice, and she hastily scrambles back from the mouth of her opponent's hole. Bounding away a few feet, she then settles down and starts excavating her own tunnel, her little paws working madly and soil flying in all directions. Soon even the tip of her curled tail has disappeared underground, and only the occasional spray of dirt from the hole indicates that she's still burrowing.

Khao, meanwhile, has no idea what his opponent is doing. The cyndaquil uncurls and climbs up the side of his tunnel until he's able to poke his head out above the surface. A quick look around is all it takes to determine that Mei isn't in range--but the pile of dirt left behind by the pachirisu's digging gives Khao some indication of where he needs to go to find her. Pointing his long snout at the sky, the cyndaquil lets out a wild howl, a rush of confidence imbuing him with temporary strength. Then, sliding back to the bottom of his tunnel, he points his nose towards where Mei's tunnel lies and starts to dig again.

Mei waits at the bottom of her hole. Khao's howl easily reaches her ears, and then she waits... and waits. No further howls seem forthcoming; and, as she concentrates, faint vibrations in the earth warn her that something is coming her way. Turning away from the source of the tremors, the pachirisu starts digging again.

Khao is a bit miffed as he feels his target moving away from him through the earth. Though he digs as fast as he can, hoping to be able to come up underneath Mei and then get in his body slam, the pachirisu is faster than him even at tunneling and it soon becomes clear that he won't catch up this way. He'll need to try and rush her with an aerial ace, then--Khao digs up to intercept the pachirisu's tunnel, ready to pop out into open air and go dashing off in pursuit. After breaking into the pachirisu's tunnel, however, Khao encounters a small problem--namely that, being larger than his opponent, he hasn't got much breathing room in her tunnel. He could probably squirm his way down it if he tried, but an aerial ace isn't likely to happen.

Up ahead, Mei stops digging as she hears Khao emerge into her tunnel. The cyndaquil, with his hind paws braced inside his own tunnel and his upper body wedged into Mei's, lets the fire on his back blaze up, and a foul smell fills the tunnel as the dirt around the cyndaquil chars. Hastily, Mei tries to add a little corner to the end of her tunnel to give herself some cover, but she only has seconds before Khao breathes out a powerful cone of fire. The flamethrower washes down the tunnel, a bit diminished in power by the time it reaches Mei but impressive nonetheless. The pachirisu's light screen absorbs as much of the attack as it can, but Mei is still a little singed--and after the flamethrower dies, the screen flickers unsteadily a couple of times, then vanishes entirely.

Hmm... Okay, start with Swift. If the Cyndaquil uses Protect, try Magnet Rise. Next, Quick Attack up to him and give him a good bite with Super Fang. If Cyndaquil protects against this, and you haven't used Magnet Rise yet, do that. If you managed to sink your teeth into him, Discharge into his system. If you didn't get your teeth sunk into him, try that now. If you're not close enough to quickly do so, try Charge Beam.

Always thought Eruption like, y'know, came from the ground, but I could've gotten the interpretation wrong again. Not asking you to edit the round though, just wanted to ask, where exactly does an Eruption attack come from?

Hmm... I don't like the looks of that Super Fang. So, after you've been barraged by little stars, make me a medium Substitute - that's 15%. I think your Substitute will be able to survive the combo with a bit of health remaining, but if that's not the case, give me another small Substitute. If it's still alive, get the hell outta that tunnel! >=o Mei should follow you. Even if she doesn't, I want you to end the round with a Natural Gift. However, if you had to fashion a 2nd Substitute, just end the round by backing out of the tunnel.

Eruption does come from the ground, but from the shape of the tunnel it would go up and out, and you said "If she Protects or Detects or is otherwise unaccessible" not to erupt. That's why I had her take cover below the ground far away. :B That would make her inaccessible unless the eruption was so huge the debris fell down into her tunnel. Or dripped.
At least, that's how I understood it.

Ah, I always thought the ground below the opponent would go "KABOOM :D" and stuff, so I figured it would work if she was underground, but I guess Khao interpreted it as inaccessible. Meh, I should be more careful with the description before the command string.

- Cornered, with Khao between her and the exit.

Crouching down on all fours, Mei waves her fluffy tail back and forth as the blue ridge down its center glows white and spits a barrage of small energy sparks at Khao. Many of the projectiles slam into the walls or ceiling of the tunnel, causing small cascades of dirt, but some fly straight, unfolding into the shape of razor-edged stars as they go. The cyndaquil closes his eyes and grimaces as the swift attack pummels his head and shoulders, bruises rising swiftly in their wake.

As soon as Mei lets up, the cyndaquil opens his eyes again and spitts glowing lava onto the floor of the tunnel. The molten rock, imbued with some of the cyndaquil's own life energy, bubbles and shifts, heaping up on and reforming itself until it has reached a rough approximation of a cyndquil shape. A thin crust of stone forms on the skin of the cooling substitute, shot through with veins of glowing silver, but the lava in the region of its eyesockets remains hot and runny, giving the construct an eerie orange glare.

Mei isn't intimidated, though, and dashes towards it at top speed, no more than a blur of blue and white as she rushes her target. Her prominent incisors begin to glow orange as she forces power into them, and upon bowling the substitute off its feet she sinks them into its semi-liquid form, ripping it completely in half.

Understandably unnerved by this, Khao wriggles back into his tunnel proper, then turns around and dashes for the surface. The remainder of his substitute, which now ends around the chest area, waddles after him on its two remaining legs. Mei remains behind, spitting out gobbets of hot lava and recuperating from her combo.

Upon reaching the surface, Khao turns back and peers down his tunnel, then hastily moves aside as his substitute awkwardly drags itself out onto the grass next to him and promptly falls over on its side. Trying not to shudder, Khao scoots away from the struggling remains of the substitute and focuses once again on his deepest reserves of energy, the deepest wellspring of his abilities. The cyndaquil's back-flames roar and a blazing aura of white surrounds him before he directs the power into a concentrated beam that streaks away down his tunnel, twisting easily to follow its winding progress before sweeping into Mei's tunnel and slamming the very-confused squirrel up against the wall.

Terrain Notes
There are now two holes in the field, each leading down to its own tunnel. The wider of the two tunnels intersects the smaller about halfway along its length.

Final Notes
- Eruption comes from the pokémon using it, not the ground (perhaps you're thinking of lava plume?), although it is aimed into the air and showers down over the opponent rather than striking them directly. Khao would have considered Mei inaccessible for the purposes of eruption even if it came from the ground, though--unless Mei's tunnel were a straight shaft down from the surface (it wouldn't be, unless she was told to make it that way specifically), she could have turned away from the entry point in any direction while digging, putting her somewhere in a general area around the hole at an unknown depth. He wouldn't have known where to aim.
- Alraunne, it looks as though you were trying to order four actions this round... a combo attack still counts as two actions, except that they are performed simultaneously (or nearly so). Mei used three actions (swift, quick attack, and super fang) and then stopped as a result.
- The damage from Khao's natural gift was reduced by distance.
- blazheirio889 attacks first next round.

*sigh* I'm too tired to do too much research, so let's go with the simple stuff.
Anyway, Mei may try to attract/use captivate or charm on you, and you might be tempted to give in, but look at your poor substitute! It's been torn clear in half! That easily could've been you, you know. Stay on guard!

Just keep using Natural Gift. It runs off your boosted Attack, so hey, why not? If Mei Protects, Howl. And if at any time she uses Super Fang, Protect, but only if your Substitute is broken.

Natural Gift/Howl/Protect x3

Well, if Cyndaquil's at the surface and you're still in your tunnel... I think the most obvious course of action is to dig your way up to the surface yourself and into him! Once you're in range to do so, give him a Thunder Wave, and finally a Charge Beam.

- Sitting alone in her tunnel, a little miffed.

Mei gives herself a shake, dislodging dirt from her fur and helping her clear her head after the unexpected natural gift attack. Then she's off, scampering as fast as she can up her tunnel--she's got quite a bit of ground to cover if she hopes to make it back to the surface with enough time left to execute her other orders. Meanwhile, Khao is powering up another natural gift, the flames on his back hissing white as he gathers energy into another concentrated beam.

This time, Mei is more prepared; the telltale searing noise of energy in the air prompts her to dig into the wall of her tunnel in an attempt to get away, but the natural gift easily flows around the corner and follows her into her new tunnel. The pachirisu is blasted from behind by the bolt of power, her head slammed up into the roof of her tunnel by the force, but she recovers quickly enough, digging madly towards the surface and the faint vibrations in the earth that signal where her opponent waits.

Khao is unprepared as his substitute suddenly rears up, teetering precariously on its remaining legs, and staggers in his direction. The cyndaquil lets out a frightened squeak and scrambles away, even as the ground where he had just been standing trembles, then bursts open to release Mei. The pachirisu ends up ripping through Khao's hapless substitute rather than the cyndaquil himself, scattering gooey chunks of lava in all direction as she smashes the remainder of the thing to bits.

The substitute might have been creepy while it was still "alive," but now that it's gone Khao faces the terrible prospect of standing undefended before Mei. The pachirisu whips around, sparks dancing down the length of her spine and out to the end of her tail, then blasts a sharp jolt of electricity at Khao. All the cyndaquil's muscles seize up as the thunder wave ripples through his body, and he falls onto his side, gurgling and twitching as he loses control of his body. Attempts to stand or even roll over onto his stomach are thwarted by the tight grip of paralysis; attacking is entirely out of the question.

Mei is charging up another attack already, sparks racing through her fur again and gathering into a brilliant, hissing ball between her palms. As the attack grows too powerful to contain, Mei releases a dense, crackling column of power at her opponent. A muscle spasm causes Khao to give an awkward little flop, though, and land on his stomach at last--the charge beam sizzles past his face and blackens the grass next to him but does no damage.

Mei chatters indignantly, tail swishing back and forth in irritation, while Khao concentrates on simply getting moving again. Slowly, he regains enough control to rise to his paws, then up onto his hind legs, and then finally to call up his innate power once again, firing off a blinding ray of energy with another natural gift attack. Much closer to the attack this time than she had been previously, Mei raises her paws to shield her face as the attack engulfs her, scorching fur and sending a shockwave of pain racing throughout her body.

Now's your chance, Mei! While he's flailing around on the ground, run up to him and try to tie him up a bit with Grass Knot. If he's properly secured, go in for a Super Fang, and follow that up with a Sweet Kiss. You didn't mean to bite him that hard, right?
If he comes loose and uses a move that makes physical contact with you, though, use Discharge when he makes contact. If he attempts to just burn you with some ranged fire attack, Charge Beam. If you didn't get a Super Fang into him and went with Discharge or Charge Beam, finish with Rain Dance. If he protects at all, chill.
