Arena: Evolution Stone Cave

Our battle today takes place in the most sparkly, shiny, impossible place ever; the Evolution Stone Cave. The cave is pretty big, with enough space to comfortably fit a Wailord, and with a ring of deep water surrounding the arena. No Wailords are allowed, however. The thing that gets everyone about here though, is the millions and billions of bits of shiny evolution stones embedded in the ground, ceiling and walls. Though these bits are pretty small, if you took a piece out it wouldn't count as an evolution stone so don't try that. Also scattered around the cave are gems, all shining and glittering in some unknown source of light.

The pure power of the evolution stones is pretty concentrated here. Every round, the Pokemon have a 95% chance of changing types; from whatever type they are to either Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Rock, Dark, Ice, Psychic or Ghost. All abilities of the Pokemon remain the same, ghosts can still phase or turn invisible, Flying types can still fly. All effects dispel after the end of the round.

Hmm... I'm wary about this, but I want my Volcarona. So go, Chimera.

Start with Amnesia, then Zen Headbutt, and finish with Overheat. Simple.

If Ectoplasm tries to Snatch your Amnesia, or you're Taunted, pound into him with Flare Blitz. If Ectoplasm did not change types or is Fire, Water or Rock type, use Psychic instead.

Swap Zen Headbutt for Bug Buzz instead if Ectoplasm is Dark type.

Finally, go to Wild Charge instead of Overheat if Ectoplasm is Fire, Water, or Rock type.

Ectoplasm's only method of putting you to sleep is by using Hypnosis - if that happens, close your eyes and switch to your special move for the action (Bug Buzz on the second, Overheat on the third); on the first action, just close your eyes and still use Amnesia. Also do this if Ectoplasm is invisible.

Finally, on the last two actions, if you can't damage Ectoplasm (Protect, Detect, type immunity, is phased in such a way so that you cannot target him, etc. - Substitutes do not count.), Calm Mind.

Amnesia/Flare Blitz/Psychic ~ Zen Headbutt/Bug Buzz/Calm Mind ~ Overheat/Wild Charge/Calm Mind

Edit: Here's Frizard. :3

Start off by using Thief, so you can get rid of that Black Sludge. As for the last two actions, if Larvesta changes to Water, Rock, or Dark then use Energy Ball. If she changes to Grass or Ice-type, then use Fire Punch. Finally, if its an Electric, Psychic, Ghost or Fire-type or doesn't change at all, then use Dark Pulse.

Pre-Battle

Now you’re talking. For the gazillionth time, a small group of Asberians had found their way to one of the most bizarre, magical, illogical place in the world. Even though it was only mentioned briefly in old folkloric tales, Blazhy had convinced two of her mates to try and find it, just for the sake of battling in it.

At first, logic struck their mind and they said no, it would be like looking for a healthy meal in a McDonald’s. However, the mechanical dragon had some sort of strange power over people’s mind – and soon they were in a submarine, diving deeper and deeper. According to the legend, the Evolution Stone Cave was in the deepest part of the Caribbean Sea, where no one would be ever able to reach it. Of course, that was centuries ago, and new technologies permitted those sorts of “explorations”.

The submarine dived for hours in a very vague direction – deep – and Grass King was getting fairly impatient. The feeling he had lost his time was growing very present, and Blazhy’s clunking sounds of annoyance weren’t exactly reassuring either. Lord of the Fireflies, for his part, was far more collected – he would get a paycheck no matter what happened.

Suddenly, Blazhy shrieked joyously: a shimmering light could be seen very far away. The sub swam to it lazily, and the passengers realized with much amazement it was a tunnel, covered with shards of a myriad of colors, all shining with impossible light. They entered. Luckily, they had rented a small-sized submarine (the bigger ones were too expensive) and it was just small-sized enough to fit in.

The passageway itself was also very long, but it was noticeable that it was actually going up rather than deeper, and soon the submarine immerged. The view was astonishing.

The entire walls, ceiling, floor – everything was covered by shimmering stones and shards, of more colors than no one could ever imagine. The cave was so brightly ornamented that it seemed like it produced its own light. Wavy forms were created on the walls by the pond the battlers came from; giving the impression the entire scene was nothing more than a dream.

While Grass King and Lord of the Fireflies were observing the world’s eight wonder, the emotionless mechanical dragon cleared her throat. The two of them turned to her quite surprised, and realized they were supposed to have a battle. The referee allowed the battlers to take place and send out their Pokémon.

Without a single instant of thinking, Blazhy opened her mouth and fired off a Poké Ball. Yes, you heard me right. She spitted her battler. Anyhow, Grass King was oblivious to her peculiar technique (maybe she had done so numerous times in the past, I don’t know) and threw his Dusk Ball. The two devices burst open at the same time, revealing a larvae-like Pokémon with a immaculate mane and a strange gassy face with hands.

Lord of the Fireflies waved his flag and the trainers shouted commands.

Round I Start

In a flash, the walls of the cave shimmered and glowed quite impressively, and both Pokémon started to shine awkwardly, and soon they were covered entirely by a veil of white light. The light flickered and finally faded away – unexpectedly, though, both Pokémon didn’t seemed so altered. Sure, Chimera seemed slightly fierier and Ectoplasm wasn’t giving off his pesky odor as before, but otherwise both of them looked quite the same as before.

Ectoplasm gave a look at his piece of poison-like mud. He didn’t like its stench and sickening feel anymore; he had the impression it was seeping in his skin, burning instead of healing as it did before. Chimera’s item, though, was very interesting. The perfect oval shape of the stone, the clear energy emanating from it (it could even smell its delicious aroma of baked eggs): he wanted that egg quite badly. Much more than his disgusting piece of sticky junk, at least.

With a wide grin, Ectoplasm tossed away his black sludge and faded away in nothingness. He reappeared just behind Chimera and without her even noticing, snatched her goodie and disappeared again. She cried in astonishment when she felt the cold feeling of the frisk from the ghostly hands, and soon realized with much discomfiture that she had not been able to keep it for long. But the Lucky Egg was now lost, and she had to focus on the battle. Clearing her mind of all her thoughts, she concentrated on an empty cardboard box. After a few seconds of intensive nothingness, she had achieved a stage of plenitude and was feeling rather calm.

Ectoplasm wasn’t done with the fun – he had just started playing with his foe. He started gathering dark energy in his hands, mustering the scariest thoughts he could think of (we’re far from snakes and spiders here, Haunters can be very imaginative when it comes to gory thoughts) and released it in the form of a pulsing wave. It swept the area, and all the gems covering the floor turned purple as it passed over them. It washed over Chimera and she shivered in awe – the horrors imagined by Ectoplasm were now filling her head, and she winced in fear. However, her clear mind quickly recovered, and soon she calmed down. Concentrating even harder, she gathered that energy to form a pinkish aura around her forehead. Once she felt her mind was clear enough, she ran to Ectoplasm – her head now giving off blue sparkles – and crashed into him with might. The sheer emptiness of Chimera’s mind seared his ghostly skin and he shrieked in pain, hovering away from the Larvesta with a devilish gaze.

He gathered dark thoughts once more, but this time, the dark pulse was rage-filled and unstable. When Ectoplasm released it upon Chimera, the gems glowed red and the pulse crackled while hovering towards the Larvesta. She was already beginning to gather energy from her next attacks, and an orange orb was glowing between her mandibles. The attacks crashed on her like a tsunami of jet-black ink, and the horrifying thoughts completely disrupted her concentration. She fired off the blazing bullet inaccurately and it flew only a few inches left from Ectoplasm. Still, it exploded on the wall like a pack of dynamite, scorching the Haunter along the way. He was thrown backwards by the blow, spinning wildly, and finally stopped only several meters farther.

As Ectoplasm was barely regaining the control over his levitation, Chimera was forced to the ground: even inaccurate, the attack had drained her.

Haha, you captured the whole mechanical dragon so perfectly. Spitting Pokeballs, that's great xD

Anyway, what move did Chimera lose from Amnesia?

That's probably the best pre-battle I've ever read.

Okay, Ectoplasm, start off by using Ominous Wind, so we can try and boost your stats. Then if she's a Grass or Ice type, then use Fire Punch followed by Sludge Bomb. If she is Water, Rock, Electric or Dark typed, then use Energy Ball followed by Giga Drain. Finally if she is her original types or is a Psychic, Ghost or fire type, then use Shadow Ball and Ominous Wind.

Ominous Wind ~ Energy Ball/Fire Punch/Shadow Ball ~ Giga Drain/Ominous Wind/Sludge Bomb

D< Goddamnit Acrobatics would've been useful...

I pretty much only see special moves there... okay, set up a Light Screen and then... guh why do all your high-powered moves have recoil D: Okay, Flame Wheel if Ectoplasm is grass or ice, Bug Bite if they're dark or psychic, and Zen Headbutt otherwise.

Round II Start

As the referee waved his flag, the walls of the evolution cave glowed again. This time, however, the battlers were bathed in a much more intense light, and their appearance changed drastically. Chimera’s white fur turned into a dark purple in a matter of seconds, and her crimson horns darkened to the point they became black. Her blue eyes were now gleaming with a golden glow.

Ectoplasm didn’t escape the metamorphosis either. All of a sudden, his gaseous purple skin solidified and became all rough and craggy, his fingers turned rocky and pointy. While he was still capable of levitation, he was feeling much heavier. He frowned in annoyance – his new bulky state wasn’t suiting him at all.

Fortunately, his inner self was as ghostly as before, and his opponent would soon discover it. He took an inhuman breath, his throat vacuuming the air around him, and released it into a strong gust of awe-inspiring wind. It swept the battlefield, making the gems glow a deep violet, and washed over Chimera. The Larvesta, however, was far more resistant to the ghostly energy that Ectoplasm would have thought. The dark aura she was now radiating seemed to be countering it, and the Ominous Wind ended up barely doing more than tickle its target. Nearly oblivious to her opponent, Chimera summoned a shimmering wall of energy. The golden barrier flickered and solidified, offering a valuable protection against Ectoplasm’s incoming attacks.

Ignoring his foe’s screening shenanigans, the Haunter joined his hands and an unstable green sphere of energy appeared between them. It grew quite large in seconds, and soon it was too big for Ectoplasm to hold it. He launched it at Chimera, who was observing the scene curiously. The Energy Ball flew towards her at impressive pace, but before it could land appropriately, the Light Screen appeared out of nowhere, blocking the way. The projectile exploded in green sparkles all over it, and the blow from the explosion swept Chimera. She squeaked in surprise, but easily recovered – it was definitely not as painful as the real thing.

Forcing herself to calm, the Larvesta entered into a state of deep meditation, once again clearing her head of distracting thoughts. Again, a pink aura engulfed her head, and Chimera felt very Zen all of a sudden – she had the feeling her forehead was wielding a very empowering effect. When she felt her entire being was filled with that confidence-inspiring feeling, she hurled herself towards Ectoplasm. The attack was so sudden the Haunter utterly failed to dodge it, especially with his now heavy built – he was smacked right in the face by the headbutt. The blue sparkles from before once again exploded all over him and seared even his newly thick skin.

Ectoplasm was getting very annoyed, tired and more than anything was taking quite a beating. His rocky body was scorched and scratched at numerous places, while his opponent was looking remarkably fine. The Haunter growled in anger. How was that even possible – him, a mighty shadow puppeteer, losing to a mere larva?

He opened his hands wide, facing Chimera, concentrating on sucking out the Larvesta’s life energy for his own. Ordinarily, several orbs of that energy were supposed to come out of his unsuspecting target for him to absorb, replenishing his body. But it wasn’t happening. The light screen seemed to block the path of the energy strings between Ectoplasm and his target. The ghost growled and concentrated harder. Finally, a small amount of the precious life-filled spheres came out, and the Haunter erratically ate them. The healing effects were shallow but welcomed by the ghost. He didn’t have much time to appreciate, though, as he found himself struck by a second Zen Headbutt quite soon, and he was once again thrown backwards by the impact, shivering under the searing effect of the vengeful blue sparkles.

Ectoplasm, as the round came to an end and his rocky coating cracked off, gazed at his now back to normal adversary. The battle would be harder than predicted, after all.

Much as I'd love to have that Light Screen going another two rounds (we'd be invincible haha >D), Light Screen actually lasts five actions. Word of God here.

Also, out of curiosity: how do you handle stat boosts and reductions?

Alright then. Chimera, we're doing great! Let's buffer ourselves with a 15% Substitute. Punish Ectoplasm if he tries to Snatch it, though, with another Zen Headbutt, or Bug Bite if he's Dark or Psychic type. Then... Well, keep on Zen Headbutting, I suppose. Bug Buzz if he's Dark or Psychic, or if he's invisible. And Calm Mind if you can't hit him or his Substitute, if he has one. You know the drill: if he's Protecting, Detecting, etc.

Once again, close your eyes if Ectoplasm tries Hypnosis on you. Also do that if he tries Confuse Ray. If that happens, use Bug Buzz with your eyes closed, so we don't miss; on the first action, though, continue with Substitute, 'cuz I'm pretty sure you can make one with your eyes closed! Oh, and also use Bug Buzz if there are clones out and about.

Start off by setting up your own Substitute. Then, use Thunder Punch if he's Water, Fire, Rock, Dark, Ghost-type or unchanged, and Fire Punch otherwise. Finish up by using Psych Up, but do it after he uses his second Calm Mind, unless he's a Gjost-type, then use Shadow Punch.

Round III Start

Once more, before any battler could even move, the light from the impossible walls of the impossible cave flickered, and both Pokémon were bathed in its intense light. Again, by some wacky transformation in their DNA structure, they promptly changed form, as if they were evolving. Chimera’s red horns faded into a brownish tint and suddenly turned all rough and rocky, while her skin somehow hardened and took on a craggy appearance. Ectoplasm, meanwhile, caught on fire almost instantly – his entire being was now composed of perpetually flaming gases, giving him a quite intimidating appearance.

Both battlers barely reacted, though. It seemed like they were getting used to this happening at the exact moment the referee waved his flag, and weren’t making a huge deal about it anymore. What they cared about, though, was their foe’s new appearance – anybody with a good enough knowledge of the type match-ups could easily abuse the bizarre yet very interesting effect the Evolution Stone Cave had on them.

Remembering how ineffective his previous attacks had been on the Larvesta, Ectoplasm decided to take a more defensive approach, and dislodged a large chunk of rock from a nearby wall. His fiery fingers manipulated the rock with application, and after a few seconds it was roughly Haunter-shaped. A thin stream of purple gas came out of Ectoplasm’s throat and seeped into the substitute, and the golem suddenly awoke, opening mouth and eyes wide, ready to protect its creator. He smirked while looking up at Chimera, but quickly lost his grin when he realized his foe had done the exact same thing, a rocky decoy just in front of her.

The round was far from over, though, and Ectoplasm knew he had to deal some real damage – that was the point of battling, after all. His fiery fist began to glow as crackling electricity engulfed it, and, without even bothering aiming at the real Chimera, threw it towards the substitute. It seemingly exploded on contact, releasing burning sparkles that seared the substitute’s rocky coating. A few cracks appeared on it, but it remained intact, bravely standing in the way. Chimera, meanwhile, had been focusing on clearing her mind again, and once more a pink aura was shining around her head. Ectoplasm’s substitute, somehow, was seeing it coming, and as the Larvesta hurled herself to it, it floated out of the way at the last second, nearly avoiding the Zen Headbutt completely. Unfortunately, though, he was a tad too late and Chimera struck his left hand, leaving a searing blue mark on the decoy’s skin.

Ectoplasm himself floated away, waiting for his foe to make her next move. Eager, he started gathering energy, and his blazing hands glowed in a white aura. A few meters away, Chimera closed her eyes and calmed down, the pink energy veil betraying the calm mind shining around her head. Ectoplasm opened his hands wide and invisible energy strings flew to the Larvesta, ready to seize her serenity (?).

All of a sudden, though, she opened her eyes wide and the pink aura became a sparkling blue. In a split-second, she rushed to the startled Ectoplasm. His substitute appeared out of nowhere to block the hit, and Chimera and delivered a direct and powerful Zen Headbutt to the golem, throwing it backwards and crashing into the opposite wall. He exploded in numerous shards that rained on the battlefield, and Ectoplasm stared at his trainer in incomprehension. Grass King stared back at him with the same puzzled look. The Haunter grumbled. He wasn’t the one who was taking the hits in the face, of course.

As the round came to an end, the Light Screen appeared in front of Chimera, flickered and finally broke apart. The Larvesta, while a tad more exposed to Ectoplasm’s special attacks, was feeling quite well – keeping that wall up was somewhat strenuous.

- I think you misread blazhy’s commands, GK. Maybe I did, I don’t know. Anyhow, Ectoplasm was confused by your commands on the last action as none of your orders met the requirements.
- The first Zen Headbutt was on the edge of missing, so I lowered its base power a bit.
- I forgot Ectoplasm had a Sub when I first wrote the reffing, so I apologize for the lack of logic continuity.

Arena Notes:

- Some walls are scorched black by the Overheat.
- Chunks of rocks are missing on the walls from the substitutes.

Next Round:

- Grass King orders first.

Okay Ecto, phase into Chimera. Then just spawn Giga Drain's until Chimera faints. But target his energy with the Giga Drain's.

Phase into Chimera (and Giga Drain (Energy) if it doesn't take the full action) ~ Giga Drain (Energy) ~ Giga Drain (Energy)

Well. If my calculations are correct, Giga Drain won't do much at all... Okay, Chimera. Chill first, then drive Ectoplasm out with Overheat. If possible, just do the "build up heat part" and don't release it for as long as possible. Don't release it at all, actually, if it conserves energy. :D Once/if he comes out, nail him with Foresight to prevent any further ghost shenanigans.

Chill ~ Overheat ~ Overheat/Foresight

2 vs 2 single
DQ Time: 7 days
Damage Cap: 45%.
Banned moves: OHKOs, Earthquake, anything that might even partially destroy the arena, 1 direct healing/Pokemon, 3 chills/Pokemon

Round IV Start

The referee waved his flag, and once again the unknown force of the cave bathed the area in light, and the Pokémon shone like stars. Getting used to the phenomenon, they stood proud and waited for the metamorphosis to occur. After a few seconds, Chimera’s reddish parts faded into a pale blue, and soon the heat she was radiating became a chilling wind. Ectoplasm’s transformation, however, wasn’t as obvious – his purple skin simply turned into a darker grey – but if one looked at him closely, they would notice his shadow was bigger, and that a faint aura of dark energy was surrounding him.

Without losing a second, Ectoplasm disappeared and slowly hovered towards his foe, hands forward. Swiftly, he flew to Chimera, now close enough to phase in her – BONK! The decoy popped right in front of him. This whole lot of nothingness totally prevented him from phasing in any way by its sheer emptiness. Ectoplasm glared at it. It was in the way. And, unfortunately, he didn’t like things standing in the way. The decoy still had some life left, and he needed it. In a split second, he had sunk in the substitute and was sucking all of its energy. Chimera, a few meters away, was curled up in a ball and veiled by white light, recovering some energy.

Ectoplasm kept on draining the decoy of his energy, and soon the puppet, having nothing left to keep it alive, started to crack, and finally crumbled apart, revealing the madly grinning Haunter that was hidden inside. Once more, he flew towards Chimera while slowly turning invisible – this time, though, there was no dumb substitute to block his way. Chimera, noticing the ghost coming to her, once more curled up in a ball. Her snow-white body began to glow a fierce orange, and soon she was radiating a heat so intense it bathed the entire cave – the trainers and referee hid behind rocks to avoid getting their eyebrows burned up. Ectoplasm himself had to back up from a few meters under the pressure of the heat. There was no way he could possess such a searing body, so he contented himself by draining some of her energy from as close as he could. The green orbs flew towards him lazily, seemingly unscathed by the Overheat, but as he absorbed them he shrieked in pain: the orbs were hot as lava, and they were burning him from inside. Chimera, meanwhile, had stopped overheating the place, and her icy element was slowly taking control of her body temperature.

Ectoplasm glared at her. Now that his tongue was okay, he could attempt something more productive. Once more, he hovered towards Chimera in hope he could finally possess the thing. And once more, the Larvesta had seen it coming, and before the ghost could even come close she had scanned it with a red ray from her eyes. Ectoplasm, feeling nothing whatsoever, kept on flying to the bug and – BONK!

Instead of passing through her like he was used too, he collided with her – to much surprise, actually. The Haunter squeaked in astonishment - he was now part of the…

PHYSICAL REALM.
