Arena: Celadon Dept. Store Basement

It's the biggest sale of the year upstairs, keeping all of the workers at the department store busy and preventing them from noticing the trainers battling underground. The basement is very large, made up of three large rooms (around a small central one) full of boxes holding everything from potions to Pokedolls to pop-up books. At the start of the match, all three rooms (left, right, and down) are accessible. However, at the end of every odd-numbered round, a call comes in from upstairs for more merch, and the manly working Machoke rush down to grab and rearrange the boxes. In the ensuing scuffle, one random room is always blocked off, and no room is blocked off twice in a row. The boxes are in such a mess that any attempt to bypass a blocked room through physical means would result in a boxalanche causing 35% typeless damage. Oh, and stealing the merchandise is a no-no, so no rooting around for healing items to use in the battle!

Who dares to send a canine against the dog team of doom?! Clearly, we must show our superiority! Ace, Jekyll, do your thing! (Also, thanks, Zhorken, for reffing this. I know double battles can be a pain to figure out.)

So, we're all starting in the tiny room in the center, yeah? I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Gamzee's gonna boost up Yami this round. Well, that's just fine; we're gonna start with a divide and conquer. Jekyll, you're a bit faster, Sucker Punch Gamzee if he looks like he's going for a Fake Out; otherwise, Megahorn him. After that, Bite into the mime and drag him over to the room to your left. If he gets free or this fails, try it again; if you've got a move left, Night Slash the junior up. If your target is protecting, Hone Claws instead; if the other dog is blocking the mime, attack the dog instead.

Sucker Punch @ Gamzee/Megahorn @ Gamzee/Hone Claws~Bite and drag off @ Gamzee/Hone Claws~Bite and drag off @ Gamzee/Night Slash @ Gamzee/Hone Claws

Ace, you're a tad slower. Helping Hand Jekyll any time he's about to hit Gamzee. Otherwise, Yawn at Yami until it takes, then Tackle her into the room to the right and do your best to keep her there.

Helping Hand @ Jekyll/Yawn @ Yami~Helping Hand @ Jekyll/Yawn @ Yami/Tackle @ Yami~Helping Hand @ Jekyll/Yawn @ Yami/Tackle @ Yami

Alright Gamzee, since fake out has higher priority than sucker punch, I think you should be able to zoom in there and give him a good whack on the jaw to disrupt his initial attack. Next, jolt Jekyll with a thunder wave when he latches onto you with bite. Hopefully that should startle him enough to break his grip. Finish by hoisting Ace up into the air with a telekinesis. If Jekyll managed to get you into the room, obviously try and make your way out so you can get at Ace. Yami will cover for you if Jekyll continues to hound you.

Fake out @ Jekyll ~ Thunder wave @ Jekyll ~ Telekinesis @ Ace

Yami, taunt Ace. Tackle is pretty weak, and you're quite a bit bigger and heavier than Ace, so when she tries to push you into the room, ward her off by blasting some fire in her face. Try and keep out of the room. Lastly, if Jekyll is trying to get at Gamzee, latch onto him with a super fang and drag him away so Gamzee can lift Ace up. Try and drag him into the left-hand room if possible, but don't worry if you can't; your main priority is keeping him away from your partner. If Jekyll is too paralyzed to bite Gamzee however, then wait for him to use telekinesis on Ace and scorch her with an inferno.

Ding went the elevator as the Omskivar reached the basement where Byrus and ole_schooler were playing a guessing game about what was in the boxes. Zhorken had apparently rushed to the bathroom and never returned, and there wasn't much else to do to pass the time; Byrus pondered for a moment, then guessed that there were GameBoys in ole_schooler's box; ole_schooler peeked inside and scoffed, miffed that Byrus had guessed so fast, then shot his own guess at Byrus. Byrus looked into his box and replied no, there was no garden hose in there, just like there was no garden hose in the last one, or the one before that. Ole_schooler sighed and gave up, asking what was in the box; Byrus smirked and threw one of the items at ole_schooler's head.

After a half-hour or so, Omski and Byrus managed to remove ole_schooler from the Premier Ball, and the battle finally began. Byrus and ole_schooler selected their Pokeballs carefully, then tossed them into the ring (which was an entirely coincidental and very convenient circle in the middle room). On ole_schooler's side of the arena, a gruff-looking Herdier appeared alongside an Absol, who began to stare at Byrus harshly; the other Trainer paid this no heed and began uttering commands to his own Pokemon, a stoic, revered-looking Houndoom and a tiny frivolous Mime Jr. Jekyll the Absol transfixed his intense glare to the both of them.

Round the First

Ace turned to face Jekyll right off the bat, cheering her partner on and even managing a shaggy backflip; Jekyll took this as best to heart as an Absol can, then immersed his paw in an aura of malice. He scanned his opponents, suddenly unable to find the Mime Jr. until thwack! Gamzee giggled to himself, spinning away on one foot as quickly as he had come, after landing a sharp rap on the back of Jekyll's head that disrupted the Absol's thought and caused the aura to flicker and sputter out. Jekyll growled with spite as Yami stepped forward slowly.

Stupid mutt, she said, sneering at Ace. Just as much a figurative bitch as you are a literal one. Always trying to take others' credit for their own hard work; what's the matter, are you above using a regular attack? Bah. You're not worth my time. Ace's face reddened as a sharp, stabbing anger took root within her mind, and she could think of nothing but murdering that foul-mouthed she-devil before her.

Shaking his head, Jekyll roared and charged forward, clamping his jaws around Gamzee's midsection. Gamzee squealed in pain, but managed to produce a weak jolt of electricity from the orb on his head; he swung the bulb to hit Jekyll on the nose, sending the small shockwave traveling through his body. Jekyll did not howl in pain; he dropped the Mime Jr. in surprise, but did not utter a sound, other than a low growl as he subtly tested the mobility, or lack thereof, of his limbs. He glared at Gamzee, who clapped happily.

Yami bided her time, awaiting Ace's move. The Herdier charged at her, barking loudly; she never made contact, as she was blasted directly in the face with a casual burst of flames. The force of the Flamethrower sent Ace backwards just enough to land her sprawled out on the floor, whimpering and looking down at her chest, which sported a rather ugly scorch mark. Growling amidst the whimpers, Ace got back on her feet and charged Yami again, this time making contact; though the Herdier put her full effort into the attack, it did little more than knock a small whuf of breath from Yami, not moving her from her spot at all. Ace growled, stood up and charged Yami again, but suddenly found herself lifted off of the ground, floating towards the ceiling as Gamzee manipulated the air around her. Yami considered the floating Ace for a moment, then cocked her head and let loose another blast of flames, at which Jekyll actually yelped, writhing in her bubble of floating air, emerging from the inferno with her burned chest smoldering visibly. Gamzee smiled, admiring his handiwork, until Jekyll grabbed him around the waist in his lethal jaws and began running to the room on the left; as they were almost there, a tiny jolt of electricity danced across Jekyll's body, causing him to stop and drop Gamzee. Finding himself unable to move, the Absol simply glared and bared his teeth down at the wincing Mime Jr. The Omskivar waved his flag and signalled the end of the round.

Two Machoke stomped down the stairs, discussing something amongst themselves; they took no notice of the battlers, instead shuffling boxes around nonchalantly and then leaving. The room to the south was now entirely blocked off.

-the bottom room is closed off by boxes.

-Flamethrower burned moderately.
-Inferno intensified the burn to severe.
-The severity of the paralysis was weakened by Mime Jr.'s lack of concentration.
-Helping Hand had priority over Fake out, which had priority over Sucker Punch.
-Houndoom moved last on the first action because of priority, and on the other two actions because she had conditionals based on her opponents' actions.

Telekinesis was targeted at Ace. Also, I don't think telekinesis works on dark types, although I'm not 100% sure on that.

...Shiiiiiiit.

I'll fix it in a bit, after I finish writing a round for another battle. It's confusing when they both start with A, Ace and Absol.

EDIT: I fixed it. Let me know if you see anything else wrong

Telekinesis does affect dark-types; non-damaging psychic-type moves usually do (see also: hypnosis).

Oh right, that's what I get for basing my information off a single forum post on Smogon...

Good job you two. Gamzee, magic coat any taunts or status moves. Otherwise, use hypnosis on Ace now that you've got the chance; hopefully she's still be too angry to try to close her eyes or something. Next, let's get Jekyll up there with his partner; use a telekinesis on him. If he uses magic coat, sock him with a drain punch instead. Finish with a hypnosis at Jekyll. Hopefully he'll be telekinesis'd when you try it, but I'm running out of conditionals so just try it anyway even if he isn't up in the air. Drain punch once again if he tries magic coat.

Hypnosis @ Ace/Magic coat ~ Magic coat/Telekinesis @ Jekyll/Drain punch @ Jekyll ~ Magic coat/Hypnosis @ Jekyll/Drain punch @ Jekyll

Yami, wait until Ace is asleep, then use dream eater on her. If hypnosis fails and she isn't sleeping, then fire blast her instead. Next, use inferno on Jekyll, but wait until Gamzee has him hoisted up first. If Gamzee doesn't manage to use telekinesis successfully, or if Jekyll has double team clones, or he has obtained your ability, then use natural gift instead. On the last action, use inferno on Jekyll if he isn't burned. If he's already burned or he has obtained your ability, then use flamethrower on Ace. If Ace tries to use yawn on you after her taunt wears off, set up a small sub to block it.

H'okay, so, here's how it's going to go, team. Ace, you're going to get ganged up on something fierce right now. Let's keep it simple: Snarl if you're awake for actions 1 and 2, Chill the first action you're asleep, and do nothing for any second or third actions you're asleep (dammit why don't you get sleep talk or snore). If you are awake by your third action, Protect.

Snarl @ foes/Chill~Snarl @ foes/Chill/nothing~Protect/Chill/nothing

Jekyll, time to hope luck is on your side. Absol are supposed to be lucky, right? They have lots of some kind of luck. Start off by giving Gamzee a Thunder Wave, with hope that he paralyzes and can't hypnotize. If Ace is now asleep (and the ref deems this a viable use of the move), use Echoed Voice right in Ace's ear to wake her up. (It's okay if she takes damage, I just want her conscious.) If she's not asleep (or that wouldn't work), Detect away that annoying Telekinesis and whatever madness the Houndoom is spewing out. On the last action, if Ace is asleep, Icy Wind the both of your foes. If she's awake and Protecting...Perish Song.

Thunder Wave @ Gamzee~Echoed Voice @ Ace/Detect~Icy Wind @ foes/Perish Song

(Note for ref: I would treat Perish Song as a OHKO, subject to the damage cap when it hits (so if it goes off in three rounds, it damages those affected, but not by more than the cap would allow).)

Round the Second

Ace maneuvered herself to angle downwards, carefully avoiding brushing a paw against her burned chest. She stopped and let out a ferocious growl, a sound that shook even the Omskivar to his very core; Yami seemed rather unfazed, merely wincing a bit, while Gamzee screamed and clutched his ears in agony, tears streaming down his tiny face. In retaliation, the Psychic Pokemon stood up haughtily and waved its minute hand in different directions, psychically suggesting that Ace should sleep.

Look, here's my hand. Look up, look down, where is it? It's over here; look again, now you're getting sleepy...veeeeeery sleepyyyy... Ace struggled to follow the hand of her enemy; every time she moved her head she began to rotate in that direction in her bubble. Finally, she closed her eyes and succumbed to Gamzee's tricks, falling asleep in midair.

Yami leapt into action, siphoning off the thoughts of the sleeping Herdier as her eyes and horns lit up with a faint purple glow. Ace twitched and shuddered in his sleep, then came crashing down onto the floor, still asleep, Gamzee no longer bothering to keep him suspended. Jekyll watched on with silent rage, verging on madness, unable to move.

As Ace slept on, Gamzee thought he'd be a bro and move Jekyll for him. Recreating the hover-bubble Ace was previously encased in, he hoisted the immobile Absol into the air, where he hung peacefully as he stared maddeningly. Yami trotted over and repeated her actions as well; a bout of hellish flames blazed around Jekyll, dispersing after leaving him a nasty burn on his rump. The smell of burning fur filled the air as Jekyll struggled against his electric bonds, finally breaking free of them and letting all of his frustration out in one deafening burst of animalistic fury, aimed not at an enemy but at his slumbering compatriot, Ace, who jolted awake and howled at the pain in her ears.

Ace immediately played the defensive, throwing up a shiny green Protect shield, as Yami breathed a stream of flames at her; the flames hit the shield and dissipated, reduced to a mere gust of warm air that ruffled Ace's fur. Meanwhile, from his bubble in the air, Jekyll began a war-like aria in sharp, gruff staccato. All of the Pokemon present felt a strange, otherworldly force slowly pulling at their life forces, not lethal yet, but threatening to grow stronger and stronger.

Gamzee shuddered under the influence of such frightening, unkown powers, but managed to carry out his commands anyway. He swayed back and forth, teetering on his feet beneath Jekyll, who watched him with boredom. Such boredom, in fact, that he was beginning to become sleepy...very sleepy...he closed his eyes and fell asleep, against all protest from his own mind. Gamzee looked delighted as the round came to a close.

Could you put in the status who is affected by Perish Song, and how long they have left before it hits? Appreciated. Other than that, I told Ace to chill the first time she was asleep, which is generally allowed, but you might not. I think Hypnosis might've costed a bit more in terms of energy, but I don't know what system you're using, so don't mind me.

Okay, Ace, your partner is asleep, so it's defense time. Run into the room on the right, standing inside but so you can hopefully see the rest of them. If that takes an action, whatever; if not, let out another Snarl from there. From then on, if one of them follows you into the room, hit them with a Yawn, then a Thunder Wave. If they both follow you, if neither follow you, or if you're taunted out of it, keep Snarling (and try to make it loud enough to get both of them, wherever they may be). If a target is unhittable (Protect, Detect, dug down, too far away, etc.) and you're not too taunted to care, swap your attack for Work Up.

run into right room and Snarl/run right and Work Up~Yawn@foe that followed you/Snarl/Work Up~Thunder Wave@foe that followed you/Snarl/Work Up

Jekyll...why you sleep now, you have such a better movepool than Ace. Le sigh. Sleep Talk for as long as you remain unconscious, because it's funny. When you wake, try to run into the room on the left, letting off an Icy Wind from there if you can. Keep it up until the boxes block you off.

Sleep Talk/run into left room and Icy Wind~Sleep Talk/run into left room and Icy Wind/Icy Wind~Sleep Talk/run into left room and Icy Wind/Icy Wind

Didn't see the Chill; fixing.

Actually Hypnosis by the new scale would cost 2% energy; I increased this against Absol due to Pressure, but I'll leave the extra 1% in there as compensation for getting your ass kicked thus far.

Unless of course Byrus disagrees.

Finally, all battlers are affected by Perish Song, and since there is no way to alleviate the effects I put a blanket statement in the notes. I can however acquiesce your request.

Oh derp, I really need to remember to re-subscribe to everything. By the way, could you keep a counter on how many chills a Pokémon has used? (since I just remembered they're restricted in this battle) Also, snarl lowers special attack and not special defense. (bleh...)

OK Gamzee, take the plunge and follow Ace. If that doesn't take a full action, then use a drain punch on Ace as she's snarling. Try and hit her right in the jaw to disrupt her attack. Next, magic coat her yawn and thunder wave right back at her. However, if Ace considers you unhittable under your magic coat and opts for work up, then snatch the first one, and take the opportunity to focus punch her on the second, unless Jekyll would interrupt you, then just fall back on snatch.

Follow Ace and drain punch ~ Magic coat/Snatch/Follow Ace and drain punch (if you haven't already) ~ Magic coat/Focus Punch @ Ace/Snatch

Yami, kill it with fire blast! The high base power should overcome your special attack drop enough for our purposes. Use natural gift if Jekyll happens to draw up double team or if he role plays your ability. Finish by chilling. If Jekyll wakes up at any time, hit him with a flame charge to shrug off those speed drops from icy wind, following his progress if needed.

Round the Third

Yami's eyes flared as she released a five-armed blast of fire at the sleeping Jekyll. The burn on his flank sizzled disturbingly, and he growled in his sleep but did not wake. He muttered something to himself, and his scythe-horn began to glow a faint purple, but it quickly fizzled out without further effect. Ace meanwhile bounded into the room on the right, scrabbled to turn around on the tiled floor and began to utter her guttural snarls again, only to be interrupted by Gamzee, who had sprinted after her and punched her bodily in the mouth. There was a cracking noise, and Ace spat out a few bloody teeth, whimpering in pain as the Mime Jr. acquired some of her vitality.

Yami blasted Jekyll with another Fire Blast, exactly like the first; Jekyll howled in pain, still asleep, but this time causing his blade to glow white. The glow condensed at the tip of the scythe in a fine point, which swelled to a basketball-sized sphere of pure energy. The ball shot out towards Yami, who sidestepped it only to have it swerve and hit her in the ribs, actually making her grunt in pain. She licked her side grudgingly.

Gamzee stared down Ace, who considered him curiously. Shrugging, the Herdier yawned, her warm, drowsy breath wafting into Gamzee's face. Gamzee smirked and made visible his rubbery, translucent pink barrier, which jiggled a bit and rebounded the draft back into Ace's face, causing her to actually become drowsy. She blinked slowly, struggling to stay awake while her foe taunted her.

As Yami curled up on the floor to restore her energy, Jekyll blinked his eyes, awakening just in time to come crashing down to the floor. Regaining his senses remarkably quickly, he darted into the room on the left, his hindparts aching with pain from his burn. As he neared the doorway, he heard a zap! as Ace shot a weak bolt of lightening at Gamzee. Once again, Gamzee's Magic Coat rebounded the attack, hitting Ace in her legs and stiffening her muscles. Unable to even crumple, Ace fell asleep standing up. Counting on his fingers, the Omskivar ended the round.

The two Machoke returned, superfluously moving the stacks of boxes from in front of the southern room to in front of the room to the left, trapping Jekyll inside.

Status: Safe, for now. Burned (severe: 4%/round), hovering (Levitate gained; all moves made against it have 100% Accuracy; two more actions; Perish Song will claim in two rounds).

Damage and Energy Calculations:
Fire Blast- 15% damage, 6% energy
Sleep Talk (Psycho Cut)- 4% energy
Run and Snarl- 6% damage on Gamzee, 3% damage on Yami, 6% energy
Drain Punch- 10% damage, 4% energy, 5% heal

Fire Blast- 15% damage, 6% energy
Sleep Talk (Natural Gift)- 10% damage, 7% energy
Yawn- 3% energy
Magic Coat- 5% energy

Chill- +10% energy
Run into left room- 2% energy
Thunder Wave- 4% energy
Magic Coat- 6% energy

Notes:
-the left room is closed off by boxes.
-no critical hits.
-Yami moved first on the last action, instead of waiting for Jekyll. Therefore Jekyll got away.
-Ace did not consider Gamzee unhittable on the last two actions.
-The high-power Fire Blasts woke Jekyll up pretty quickly.
-Gamzee and Ace have the same base Speed, so the first action was basically a tie. Snarl still happened but did not lower stats.
-Sleep Talk rolled a failed Psycho Cut and a no-miss Natural Gift.
-Magic Coat weakened the two status moves.

Next round:
-Byrus orders first.

I'm pretty sure I got everything but if I didn't let me know and I'll fix it.

Ouch. Didn't realize you had such the right hook Gamzee. Since Ace is almost completely helpless right now, take the chance to use a dream eater on her. We'll let your twisted spoon make up for the special attack drop I guess. If she wakes up after Yami's dream eater though, just use drain punch instead.

On the second action, use wake-up slap if she's still asleep, otherwise, more drain punches. Magic coat any statuses. Nasty plot if she protects or is knocked out by the third action.

Yami, chip in with a dream eater of your own on Ace. Flamethrower on the second action. Sweep it about if there's any clones. She should be gone by the last action, but if not, flamethrower one last time. Create a quick substitute to prevent any status moves. I don't know if Jekyll will be able to get up to much behind there, apart from some snarls I guess, but trying firing off a natural gift at him if Ace is knocked out by the last action.

Okay. This is not an ideal situation, but we're going to give this a go. Ace, you're asleep and probably going to get knocked out this round. For the first two actions, move last, if you can. Chill while you're asleep (not like there's much choice). As soon as you're awake, if you're above 10% health, Last Resort Gamzee; if you are below, Reversal Gamzee. If you're still alive by the end, Protect, just for spite.

Jekyll. You are mostly protected by virtue of being in another room. (Also you shouldn't be floating anymore, I think.) They are not expecting you to attack. But you are. I hope. This depends on the ref's interpretation of the move Faint Attack, which I always thought implied going between dimensions to get at a foe. If that's so, it means you can Faint Attack Gamzee and end up in the room with the other three. For action two, Thunder Wave Yami if she has no Sub, Facade if she does. If she'll get more paralyzed (or isn't paralyzed yet) and there's no Substitute, Thunder Wave her again; otherwise, Facade more.

If the ref deems this is not a viable use of the move Faint Attack, Hone Claws, then Swords Dance twice. With any luck, any Natural Gift-ing will be caught on the boxes and prevented from hitting you. (Stay away from the wall just in case it collapses, 'kay?)

Round the Fourth

Yami trotted over to the slumbering Ace and siphoned off some of her dreams; there was a particularly salty one about chasing the Magnet train that made Yami feel just the slightest bit homesick. Ace shifted uncomfortably in her sleep, then opened her eyes groggily and reassessed her situation. She leapt at Gamzee, having been ordered to attack the little trickster first and foremost, but found herself unable to perform the Last Resort attack just yet. Frustrated, she contented herself with growling menacingly at the opponent, who responded with a hearty chuckle and a swift punch to the throat.

Meanwhile, Jekyll pawed the ground, backing up and placing his hindpaw against the wall of the room he was enclosed in. He hoped he would get this right--but then, it would be impossible not to. Huffing, he charged and took a flying leap at the wall of bozes in front of him, disappearing right before contact. He reentered the physical plane in the opposite direction from which he'd left, bowling Gamzee over and somersaulting into a standing position, leaving the bruised Mime Jr. behind him.

A blast of flames from Yami's jaws woke Ace up completely, and also infuriated her burn; snarling, she vented all of her anger in a final retaliation at Gamzee, finally able to execute her commands. Gamzee screamed in pain, bruised on the majority of his body. Jekyll's horn crackled with sparks, and he focused a small jolt of electricity at Yami, who chuckled a bit as her Electrizer absorbed the attack and charged the potential kinetic energy in he body. Jekyll growled angrily and tried again, but had the same effect, as Gamzee made to sock Ace one final time, square between the eyes; his eyes widened in surprise as Ace threw up a protective green barrier, which the Mime Jr.'s tiny fist collided with. Yami blew another mouthful of flames at Ace, but they dissipated against the translucent shield. Panting, Ace dropped the force field as the round closed.

Well, the statuses are a bit wrong for my team (Ace is no longer asleep, Jekyll is not levitating), but other than that, looks good. Although I really should have remembered that Electrizer...

Ace, I'm very sorry, but you're toast. And you don't have any priority moves...damn. If a damaging attack is not about to hit you, Reversal at Yami. If it is, try Endure. You'll quickly fail, but at least it will take them a little time to bring you down.

Reversal @ Yami/Endure~Reversal @ Yami/Endure~Reversal @ Yami/Endure

Jekyll, we can't actually win, but we'll give it a go. For action one, Faint Attack Gamzee, wherever he may be. If he's protecting, Superpower Yami; if they're he is also protecting, Feint Gamzee. As soon as Gamzee is below half health, swap priorities (as in, try to Superpower Yami; if the Houndoom protects, Faint Attack Gamzee, if they both protect, Feint Yami.) However, if the little bugger does something like Drain Punch and gets its health back up, priority goes back to Gamzee. I hope that makes sense; the ref is free to hit me if it does not.
