Darksong vs. Mai

3vs3 single
Style: Switch
DQ: One week
Damage Cap: 30%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, direct recovery, chills limited to 5 per Pokémon
Arena: The Kokuboro

The Kokuboro castle is a huge palace-like complex with seemingly no way out. It is built somewhat oddly for a castle, though; the roofs are dark blue, with the walls being white with wood-colored trim. The castle has a faint evil aura all around it, causing Dark-type moves to be powered up. Pokémon with the Justified ability will be put on edge, and will gain double the Attack bonus when hit by a Dark-type move. The sky around Kokuboro is perpetually a dark twilight color. The particular area where this battle takes place is a courtyard, on a large rectangle of dirt surrounded by castle walls. On one side of the courtyard is a long staircase that leads to a walkway about fifteen feet high, which runs around the perimeter of a courtyard. This walkway is surrounded by castle walls of even higher elevation; most flying Pokémon cannot get over these walls without much effort.
Other: Only baby or basic Pokémon are allowed.
Effects of the arena:
- Dark-type moves do 1% more damage, after all other damage calculations
- Pokémon with the Justified ability have their Attack raised by two stages after being hit by a Dark-type move, rather than by one stage.

Azuraine was certainly entertained by the turn of events. Most of which were in his favor, and the poisonous rodent was not about to let this opportunity go. The poison in his body flowed into one of his paws, causiing it to eminate a captivating, purple light. Speeding forward off of the staircase, the Nidoran jabbed his claws into Prince's bare skin, the poison seeping into his veins. Well, that hurt. The Piplup was suddenly overcome by how tired he actually was, and this feeling resulted in an extremely large yawn. In fact, this seemed as if it were the perfect yawn. The opposing rodent could not help but yawn as well, causing a drowsy feeling to linger over his head. The penguin cringed at the poison flowing through his veins.

The poisonous rodent prepared the same tactic as before; his claws were soon eminating the purple light. dashing forward, Azuraine's sharpened claws sunk into Prince's skin. This inflicted unbelievable pain upon the penguin - much more than it would have before. He desparately wanted to retaliate, but the penguin just did not have enough physical health left to even move. Without warning, Prince collapsed, and Azuraine fell asleep. A shocked referee then waved his flags to signal the end of the round.

Arena Notes

- Puddles remain.
- There is a small, partially-filled tunnel from the Dig.
- Some of the ground around the staircase is soaked with water.

Notes

- Amnesia will last for one more round.
- Prince fainted from the second Poison Jab.
- The first Poison Jab poisoned Prince.
- Yawn's Energy seemed outrageous when calculated (7%!), so I lowered it, if that's acceptable.
- Azuraine fell asleep at the end of the second action.
- There was no Chill.

Hmm... you being asleep is not all that bad, actually. We might be able to get through this just fine!

Chill while you're asleep (pretty sure you can), but if you wake up I want you to use water pulse. If you're awake and Echo protects, chill.

Okay then, let's just make sure this thing doesn't wake up. Swords Dance on the first action, and Sunny Day on the second action. But if the enemy is somehow awake on the second action, use Captivate instead (don't worry, he is male. He just is very feminine...) Finish off with Bonemerang.

The newly-released Echo grins at her sleeping opponent, enjoying both the dusky arena and her chance to attack. But she chooses, instead, to prepare for later - because this is a great opportunity to do so. She swings her bone around deftly, like a baton, faster and faster until it's swishing around so fast it's just a blur of dark-tan in the moonlight. She ends by scratching it sharply with her tiny nails, and it gleams bright, sharper than ever. She feels more than ready to take on whatever's coming.

Luckily, nothing does come. Azuraine is pretty comfortable in her sleep, having nothing to disturb her, and she stores away, regaining precious energy. She doesn't know what exactly is going on in the real-world, but in her dreams, she's nomming on some grass and playing with her friends, so she's content.

At this point, Echo raises her bony head to the moon, letting out a shivering howl. Nothing happens for a moment, and then another moment, and... still nothing. Echo lowers her head towards Azuraine, frowns, and continues to wait for the sun to come out; but it seems the arena isn't suited for sun, rather for darkness. She doesn't mind so much, except she feels cheated for wasting her time. And again, Azuraine snores away, regaining more and more energy, so Echo really would like to beat her up a bit.

Azuraine keeps snoring, rolling over onto her back and stretching; her sleep is growing less deep as time passes, but with nothing disturbing her, she's not about to wake up.

Until Echo steps in. She raises her bone back, gains some momentum in her wrist, and tosses it with all her strength towards the sleeping nidoran. It swerves idly towards Azuraine, as if it had all the time in the world to strike, and doesn't even look that deadly - until it slams into Azuraine's sleeping body, striking across her with its sharper end and continuing in a circle, twirling around to strike again. While it circles, Azuraine shrieks in shock and pain, the wound from the attack bleeding unto her from her side; she struggles up, still groggy, and then the bone strikes again, knocking her onto her face. It continues on towards Echo and she catches it deftly, rubbing the blood off in the dirt, and grinning with pride. That worked out rather well, she thinks, as Azuraine stumbles onto her feet, two new gash marks on both her sides, bleeding into the dirt.

I have something to point out, though: Azuraine is male; he just has a body mod so he looks like a female.

Anyway, Echo, that did a good amount of damage. I want you to use... er, Captivate first. (Yes, that thing is a guy.) Then use Iron Defense. And finish off with Bonemerang again. If your enemy protects or uses Substitute on the first action, use Focus Energy instead, and if the enemy is inaccessible (except for Substitute) when you attack, use Iron Defense instead.

Captivate/Focus Energy ~ Iron Defense ~ Bonemerang/Iron Defense

Yeah, sure. Doesn't really matter; with the sig attribute you could call it just being a part of the disguise.

Azuraine, why don't you learn taunt? :| That could've stopped all this nonsense from ever happening. Anyway, close your eyes and yell an echoed voice at the cubone; we know you're faster but don't do it until he starts talking. That way, it'll work like an attack and a protect at the same time. After that, work up to both cement yourself as excited and boost your special attack. If flatter affected you on the first action, use sucker punch last. If not, water pulse.

Echo lowers her bone and indeed, tucks it away behind her back, raising her other paw as if to say 'peace'. She then lowers her face and looks apologetic, sweet even, and Azuraine can't help but find her charming - the nidoran is pretty damned, well, captivated by the cubone, despite himself. He lowers his head in response, feeling a bit bad for... well, for nothing, since he hadn't done anything yet! But in the future, he might just go a bit easy.

And its effects are pretty immediate. Azuraine lets out a wail, which echoes throughout the dark, reclusive place they're having this battle - and maybe because there are no responses, the attack is so weak Echo herself just shakes the noise off, clearly unaffected.

Proud that she took that so well, Echo begins to boost herself up for future attacks. Her helmet shines bright under the moonlight, glimmering metallic - though that's impossible of course, but it looks metal. The shimmer spreads through her whole body, coating her with a thin layer of thick skin that's so strong it can, indeed, be mistaken for metal. And Azuraine works himself up too, bending low to the ground and preparing for what remains of his fighting spirit - he tells himself he can do this, he took down one pokemon alraedy, another is no big deal! He feels his energy returning to him, his fighting spirit, whatever you want to call it. It's there, boosted, stronger than ever, and he feels ready to kick some butt.

And before Echo can even move, Azuraine does. The nidoran jumps forwards, fist-first, and punches Echo straight across the face. Echo stammers in shock, glad she'd boosted her defense because that still hurt, and a fist-print is left on her helmet with a tiny crack. Azuraine lands tiredly on the ground, waiting to see a response -

And it comes. Echo twirls her bone back in front of her, tossing it with all her might at the little nidoran. The bone thrashes across Azuraine's side, opening the previous wound even more, and then twirls around again, slicing across his other side just like before and returning to Echo's steady hand. Azuraine falls onto his stomach, bleeding from both thighs quite profusely, exhausted and battered and waiting to end this.

Again, Azuraine pushes himself off the ground, running towards Echo and smacking him hard across the face. Echo starts back in shock, another palm-print planted on his skull, but he after a moment he's feeling good enough to push Azuraine away, and the nidoran tumbles onto his side, exhausted.

And that's where he lays when the earth beneath him practically splits open. Echo slams his bone into the ground beneath him, and the ground opens up, a virtual mouth cracking open and spreading towards the aching Azuraine. The nidoran shakes and tumbles as the earth comes to life beneath him, and the two dance together for what feels like hours to the poor nidoran - until it suddenly stops, and Azuraine's eyes are shut tight, not about to open any time soon. He's returned to his pokeball in a flash of light, soon to be replaced by a teammate for Echo to battle, and the cubone is more than ready.

Okay, so Echo, you're all Swords Danced up and ready to go? Then I want you to begin with Toxic, use that until it works, and then go all-out with Thunderpunch. If the enemy protects or is otherwise immune to attacks, Chill instead, and if it uses Substitute, just go ahead with Thunderpunch to break the Substitute.

Toxic/Chill ~ Toxic/Thunderpunch/Chill ~ Toxic/Thunderpunch/Chill

Harlequin, your movepool is making me seriously reconsider sending you out. :| I suppose if all goes well you can evolve after this, though.

Double team first; it's a good thing that's an almost-eternal constant. Try for five clones if you can, but if your maximum is four that's fine.

Next, use a water pulse + screech combo. Use the screech afterward to try for confusion; the noise is what's disorienting them, after all. Right?

The newly released Harlequin barely glanced at Echo before dashing around him, his tiny feet picking up alarming speeds. He ran so fast, kicking up dust and twirling circles around Echo, he became a blue blur to Echo's stunned eyes, and when the oshawott stopped there appeared to be five of them - though that was impossible, and Echo blinked his eyes, rubbed at them, but no, there were definitely five oshawott! Echo whimpered, fearing for his odds. One was quite enough, thank you! But he coughed, hacking up some toxic bile he kept stored away for just this sort of time, and stepped over to one of the oshawott, spitting all over it. Unfortunately the purple goo flitted right through the oshawott and the clone flickered into nonexistence, while the others all giggled in bemusement, leaving Echo to frown at his wasted toxins.

But worse was to come. All the oshawott opened their mouths, and Echo had only a moment to prepare before a simply horrendous screech burst his ears, shaking all his built-up defenses - and following was a stream of ice-cold water, another screech coming with it, and his ears were shaking so much and his mind hurt so much from the cold and the screams he just couldn't keep up. His sight was all dizzy, maybe there were ten oshawott now, he couldn't tell, something was wrong with him for sure... Harlequin and his clones giggled again, clearly satisfied.

But Echo's madness disappeared for the moment, enough at least to cough up some more toxic venom and spit it up on another clone - or so he though, because all the other oshawott disappeared, and the goo fell on a solid oshawott, seeping into Harlequin's sensitive skin. He whimpered, too late to rub it off, but at least he wouldn't feel the effects too bad for a while.

He would feel this, though. Echo brought his fist back, summoning electricity to it from somewhere within his body, and brought it slamming down on the now-certain Harlequin. Sparks zapped from the impact and Harlequin yelped, falling down, all his strength from the beginning of the battle now brought down and even to Echo, who stood above him dominantly and proud.

Oh, well, Echo, let's see... loopholes, loopholes. Stealth Rock won't do much good here, since you should probably use physical attacks... How about you use Uproar to see if you can break your enemy's focus, and if you can stop the Uproar after the first action, use Thunderpunch to attack on the second and third actions; otherwise just continue your uproar.

Harlequin takes a deep breath, closes his eyes for a moment, and concentrates. Something within him seems to focus, to double its efforts and all of a sudden he feels rejuvenated somewhat - like he can do things he couldn't before. When he opens his eyes, he see things he didn't before, weak spots on Echo that he could hit to make him flinch or hurt, and it's just a matter of being able to get at them. Harlequin grins wickedly, pretty confident; until Echo opens his maw and lets out a mind-shattering cacophony of sounds. The pure pitch of the noise, not to mention the volume, is shocking considering its source, but all Harlequin can think of is to cover his ears and try to drown it out with a dull whimpering noise. The worst thing is, the noise doesn't stop; Echo keeps screaming, endlessly screaming, and Harlequin just has to get used to it despite the pain in order to attack.

Keeping his tiny flippers to his ears, Harlequin draws in a breath and exhales boiling water onto the screaming Echo. Echo's scream doubles, pain added into the mixture; the hot water left a scalding mark on her skin, and when she tries to move, it hurts. She whimpers a bit but continues screaming, and Harlerquin's eyes water from the noise and pain in his ears and head; it hurts so much he just wishes the cubone would shut up.

And then suddenly, Echo does. It's as if the connection between brain and throat was lost, because Echo just blinks, dazed and confused, unsure of what happened and what's going on, exactly. But she keeps trying to scream - she has to - only this time it hurts her, in her throat; she screamed badly and it scratched her throat and it hurts pretty bad. Instead of screaming she coughs and whimpers, giving a rather pitiful look of confusion towards Harlequin, who has no sympathy.

He's only grateful she shut up. He sighs and takes in a breath, letting out another stream of boiling water; he tries to aim for a weak spot but his aim is faulty and the water lands in a more general area. Still, Echo flinches and whimpers from the hot water; it makes her skin look all muddy and messy and she's looking pretty worn out, actually. Harlequin grins a bit, hoping the cubone will go down soon, before she screams anymore at least.
